CFB analyst Gerry Hamilton says Texas has five starting receivers

Steve Sarkisian might need a receiver rotation to get all the best players on the field.

In what will likely come as a surprise to those expecting a falloff at wide receiver, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian might have more starter quality receivers than starting spots.

On Texas Football’s Gerry Hamilton discussed the depth of the Texas wide receiver room.

“Here’s the biggest compliment I can give the wide receivers this year. (Offensive line coach) Kyle Flood says he’s got seven starters, essentially seven players who are good enough to start for him. I think Texas has five guys that are good enough to be starting receivers. … Everybody better put in work this summer because Ryan Wingo’s a special talent. And he’s still young, and it’s a hard scheme to pick up for a wide receiver, but watch out.”

Hamilton also discussed the emergence of wide receiver DeAndre Moore who has gone from darkhorse starter candidate to a potential favorite to start at receiver. Moore and freshman five-star Ryan Wingo have impressed in the spring. They proved to be standout players in the Orange-White game.

Fellow receivers Isaiah Bond, Johntay Cook and Matthew Golden looked like starter caliber players in the game as well while Silas Bolden is set to join the group this offseason.

Exiting the spring, the Texas receiver room inspires perhaps as much offseason confidence as any past Longhorns receiver corps in recent memory. The performance by this group was more impressive than the 2023 receiving corps’ spring showing. The 2023 unit could send two receivers to the first two rounds of the upcoming NFL draft.

Texas loses three elite talents in Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. Somehow the receiver room doesn’t seem to be hurting from the high volume of talent it lost.

Many viewed the wide receiver room as a question mark for Texas this offseason. The question now is how Texas will get all its starter quality players on the field.

Texas Football: Early enrollees continue to impress in spring practice

Texas’ freshman class is gaining the respect of the veterans.

14 players from Texas’ highly touted 2023 signing class are already on campus participating in spring ball.

Texas’ 2023 signing class ranked as the No. 3 overall class in the nation. It marks the best group Texas has signed since the 2010 cycle under Mack Brown.

Texas has seen multiple freshmen come in and make an immediate impact over the past couple of seasons. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy (2021) and offensive lineman Kelvin Banks (2022) earned freshman All-American honors for the Longhorns.

The trend of breakout freshman stars has a good chance to continue for Texas this upcoming season.

Former five-star Arch Manning, Anthony Hill, Cedric Baxter and Johntay Cook highlight a few of the uber-talented prospects who decided to enroll early for the spring semester.

It appears the newcomers are gaining the respect of the veterans around the program. When speaking with the media this week, many of the older players on the roster had nothing but praise for the Longhorns’ freshman class.

Xavier Worthy serving as a mentor for Texas’ young WRs

Worthy’s leadership is a great testament to the culture Steve Sarkisian is building at Texas.

Injuries and inconsistent quarterback play led to a down year for Texas’ wide receiver core in 2022. Steve Sarkisian and his staff revamped the Longhorns’ pass-catching unit via the transfer portal and high school ranks.

AD Mitchell brings in big-game experience and a downfield threat from Georgia. He is a two-time national champ, adding a veteran presence to Texas’ offense.

A talented duo of freshmen is creating some excitement around the team early in spring ball. Johntay Cook and DeAndre Moore enrolled early and are standing out in practices.

Sarkisian stated during his media availability that Xavier Worthy is serving as a fantastic role model for the young wideouts of the roster.

Worthy’s leadership is a great testament to the culture Steve Sarkisian is building at Texas. The Longhorns wide receivers have the chance to be one of the best groups in the nation this season.

Strong class secured, Texas can full-court press for five-star TE Duce Robinson

Texas seeks its fifth five-star recruit of the 2023 cycle.

Five-star tight end Duce Robinson probably isn’t choosing the Longhorns. That doesn’t mean Steve Sarkisian and company should stop trying. It appears Texas signees haven’t given up on the talented pass catcher.

Texas’ most recent signee DeAndre Moore championed the burnt orange recruiting pitch on Thursday. Moore, like Johntay Cook and Ryan Niblett, has the ability to play right away. It appears the playmaker wouldn’t mind sacrificing opportunities to share the football with the nation’s best tight end recruit.

Robinson would undoubtedly thrive at Texas opposite a complete tight end like Ja’Tavion Sanders. With Sanders, Xavier Worthy, Isaiah Neyor and Jordan Whittington potentially returning, the Longhorns should have no problem getting its elite receivers open. Brenen Thompson and Savion Red could have a role in the offense as well.

Georgia currently trends to land a commitment from the matchup nightmare at tight end. That said, with Bijan Robinson departing for the NFL, Texas figures to be more pass-centric offensively with a better scheme than the Bulldogs.

Duce Robinson’s recruitment might be a long shot, but the Longhorns can still aim for a cherry on top of their loaded recruiting class.

Three players Texas is working to flip before signing day

Texas is hoping for another flipmas this season.

Early signing day is right around the corner, as the majority of the 2023 class will sign their letters of intent on Dec. 21.

Texas is sitting in a great spot with its 2023 class. The Longhorns rank No. 4 in the nation according to the 247Sports composite ratings. Five-stars Arch Manning and Cedric Baxter Jr. lead Texas’ talented recruiting class.

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff are hoping to end the 2023 cycle by making a massive splash on the recruiting trail.

Last season Texas made a late charge up the recruiting ranks with a few crucial flips in the month of December.

Offensive linemen Kelvin Banks and Cameron Williams made the last-second switch to Texas from Oregon. Banks had himself a Freshman All-American season, while Williams is expected to push for a starting job next season.

Here is a look at three prospects Texas is pushing to flip before the early signing period. Landing a couple of these prospects could move this class into the top three in the country.

Updated Oklahoma Sooners 2023 commitment tracker

Which players have committed to the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2023 recruiting cycle?

The 2023 class is about a month away from early signing day and less than three months away from national signing day.

Since Brent Venables’ arrival in Norman, the Sooners have been one of the top recruiting schools in the country over the last two cycles. After finishing eighth in 247Sports team recruiting rankings for 2022, the Sooners sit at No. 7 and have a great chance to move into the top five by national signing day.

With the recent additions of Ashton Sanders and Taylor Wein, Oklahoma has 22 players committed to the 2023 class. Recent projections favor the Sooners to add more talent if the Rivals Futurecasts come to fruition. Oklahoma received a pair of projections from Rivals analysts to land five-star safety and Notre Dame commit Peyton Bowen after he spent time in Norman for Bedlam.

Brent Venables, his coaching staff, and the recruiting support staff have done an excellent job over the last year building out their 2023 recruiting class and they don’t appear close to being done.

The final tally will come on national signing day, but the Oklahoma Sooners look well-positioned to have one of the country’s best group of signees.

Let’s take a look at the updated commitment tracker.
