2025 Tennessee baseball preview: Sophomore infielder Dean Curley

Tennessee will open its 2025 baseball season on Feb. 14 against Hofstra for a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols will also host UNC Asheville, Samford (three-game series) and North Alabama before playing away from Lindsey Nelson Stadium in 2025.

Tennessee will compete in the 25th annual Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

The Vols will join Texas A&M, Arizona, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Rice in the Astros Foundation College Classic field between Feb. 28-March 2.

Tennessee will play Oklahoma State on Feb. 28, while facing Rice on March 1 and Arizona on March 2.

Dean Curley enters his second season at Tennessee in 2025. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound infielder appeared in 67 games, including 66 starts, in 2024.

He recorded a .285 batting average, .502 slugging percentage, .386 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, 50 RBIs, 51 runs, 63 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, 31 walks, 47 strikeouts and nine stolen bases (caught stealing once) in 221 at-bats.

Curley also totaled six sacrifice flies, one sacrifice hit, grounded out in five double plays and was hit by nine pitches.

He totaled two put-outs, 139 assists, 15 errors and a .935 fielding percentage defensively.

Tennessee enters the 2025 campaign after winning the College World Series, SEC Tournament and the SEC regular-season championship in 2024.

Two Vols receive Perfect Game preseason All-America honors

Two Vols earn 2025 Perfect Game preseason All-America honors.

Two Vols were named All-America by Perfect Game ahead of the 2025 baseball season.

Junior pitcher Nate Snead and sophomore infielder Dean Curley earned second-team preseason honors.

Snead (10-2) was an ABCA All-Region player in 2024. He made 29 appearances and led relievers with 75.1 innings pitched. Snead recorded a 3.11 ERA and six saves.

Snead made five appearances in the 2024 College World Series, helping lead the Vols to a national championship.

Curley was a Freshman All-American and a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team. He recorded a .285 batting average 12 home runs, 50 RBIs, 51 runs, 10 doubles and nine stolen bases.

Curley was named to the 2024 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Tennessee freshman Dean Curley earned All-America honors for the 2024 season on Friday.

D1Baseball recognized Curley as a second-team Freshman All-American.

The 6-foot-3, 212-pound shortstop appeared in 67 games, including 66 starts, for the Vols in 2024. He recorded a .285 batting average, 12 home runs, 50 RBIs, 51 runs, 63 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, 31 walks and nine stolen bases.

Curley became the first Tennessee freshman to hit three home runs in one game on March 5 versus Kansas State.

He went to Tennessee from Northview High School in Covina, California.

Tennessee won the national championship, the Southeastern Conference Tournament and the league’s regular-season title in 2024.

Tennessee shortstop Dean Curley discusses home run performance against Indiana in the Knoxville Regional.

Freshman shortstop Dean Curley went 2-for-6 in Tennessee’s, 12-6, win against Indiana on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Curley hit a two-run home run in the second inning. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound shortstop met with media after the contest and discussed hitting his first home run since April 7.

“I was just looking for a strike,” Curley said. “See the ball, hit the ball. He changed up a little bit and was trying to get his slider in the front door, and I kept fouling off good pitches, and he left it over the middle of the plate.”

Curley has recorded 10 home runs and 41 RBIs in 2024.

Vols run-rule Ole Miss in series opener

Tennessee baseball run-rules Ole Miss in series opener.

No. 7 Tennessee (20-3, 2-2 SEC) defeated Ole Miss (16-7, 2-2), 15-3 in seven innings, on Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Christian Moore went 2-for-4 and recorded two home runs, two RBIs and two runs, while Kavares Tears went 3-for-3 for the Vols. Tears recorded one home run, one double, two RBIs and four runs.

Designated hitter Robin Villeneuve went 3-for-4 and recorded one home run, four RBIs and three runs, while Dean Curley went 1-for-4 and totaled one home run, three RBIs and one run in Tennessee’s win.

AJ Causey (5-0) pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned runs), five hits and two walks, while recording six strikeouts.

Vols defeat Kansas State, extend win streak to 11 games

Tennessee baseball defeats Kansas State and extends win streak to 11 games.

No. 8 Tennessee (12-1) defeated Kansas State (7-4), 15-5, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tuesday’s win is Tennessee’s 11th consecutive.

The Vols recorded 17 hits, including four doubles and six home runs, against Kansas State.

Dean Curley went 3-for-5, recording three home runs and nine RBIs. Blake Burke went 2-for-5, recording two doubles and one RBI.

Billy Amick, Christian Moore and Dylan Dreiling also hit home runs for the Vols.

Cannon Peebles and Hunter Ensley each hit doubles in the contest for Tennessee.

Nate Snead (3-0) pitched four innings of relief to earn a victory. He allowed two runs (one earned), four hits and three walks. Snead recorded one strikeout.
