10 prospects of interest for the Commanders on Day 3

We highlight 10 prospects of interest for the Commanders as Day 3 kicks off.

The Washington Commanders go on the clock early in round four of the 2023 NFL draft, holding the No. 118 overall selection. Overall, the Commanders have five selections on Day 3.

Washington addressed the secondary in the first two rounds, selecting cornerbacks Emmanuel Forbes [No. 16] and Jartavius Martin [No. 47], and added center Ricky Stromberg [No. 97] late in the third round.

What positions are of most interest for Washington on Day 3? The Commanders could still target the offensive line, with some intriguing talents still on the board.

Here are 10 prospects who could interest Washington when round four kicks off.

Here’s our list of the top 50 remaining prospects as the Saints wait their turn to go on the clock.

New Orleans is scheduled to make five picks on Saturday:

  • Round 4 (115)

And here’s the top 50:

Best remaining players for Colts on Day 3 of NFL draft

Here are the best available players for the Colts on Day 3.

The Indianapolis Colts have added some intriguing talent to the roster at major positions of need through the first two days of the 2023 NFL draft and are looking to end the weekend on a high note.

With eight selections in total on Day 3—six Rounds 4 and 5—it will be a busy day adding depth and competition to the roster. Some intriguing names have fallen to Day 3, including some prospects who were widely expected to go well before this.

It’s important to note that when it comes to Day 3 prospects, it’s rare to expect them to turn into starters. If they can fill out the depth chart as rotational players or on special teams, it’s considered a win. Some will turn into starters, but it’s important to manage expectations when it comes to the majority of the group.

Below are the big board rankings at each position:

Quarterbacks Running Backs Wide Receivers Tight Ends Interior OL Offensive Tackles
Defensive Tackles Edge Rushers Linebackers Cornerbacks Safeties

Sorted by position and round grade, here are the best remaining players available for the Colts on Day 3 of the draft:

How the draft board could break in front of the Dolphins’ second-round pick

Who the teams before Miami could look at, and who they could leave them left with.

The Miami Dolphins are set to begin their 2023 NFL draft with the pick No. 51, followed by No. 84, each scheduled for Friday night. With a tight end board that remained intact minus just one player, the Dolphins are 20 picks away from landing one of the remaining top five at that particular position if they chose to go that route.

Miami could also consider an offensive lineman, with both guards and tackles potentially available, so general manager Chris Grier has a number of options.

The Pittsburgh Steelers being the second round tonight with pick No. 31, and they could be targeting a cornerback or an offensive lineman themselves. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is a homerun pick there.

Arizona, who had moved down and up the board last night, could be a candidate to move down yet again. Should they stick around, they too are a team that can go with a cornerback or the defensive side of the ball overall.

Quarterback Will Levis has been the fall story of the first round, and with a veteran in Jared Goff already in Detroit, the 34th overall slot could work for the Kentucky Wildcat. If not Detroit, the market could crash on Levis, and it’s anyone’s guess.

The Colts are at pick No. 35 and should be a team that protects their first-round pick, Anthony Richardson. What would make sense would be an offensive lineman, and what would make even more sense would be another Florida Gator. O’Cyrus Torrence could be a solid play or another lineman that the Colts could add to an already solid unit. TCU’s Steven Avila, Syracuse’s Matthew Bergeron and center John Michael Schmitz of Minnesota are quality offensive linemen as well, not to mention Ohio State’s Dawand Jones and Cody Mauch out of North Dakota State.

Next up would be the Los Angeles Rams at pick No. 36, and defense could be the way to go, whether it’s a pass-rusher, linebacker or cornerback. Of the next few picks, rounding the top 40, the Raiders could select a tight end and could be a Michael Mayer or Luke Musgrave destination. Should they go with defense, it could only help Miami’s cause.

The Panthers would be wise to target a pass-catcher themselves, but a receiver could be a better play than a tight end for first overall pick Bryce Young.

If the Raiders were a team that could select one of those tight ends, the New Orleans Saints are another. Mayer, Musgrave and even blocking behemoth Darnell Washington could be candidates here for this selection. Derek Carr, now a Saint, was used to a dominant tight end in Darren Waller in Las Vegas the last few seasons.

Safely speaking, two tight ends could be gone at this point, with ten picks to go until Miami’s. Tennesee could be a secondary Levis landing spot, and if not, think skill position player here, but likely a receiver or a running back to be the heir apparent to King Derrick Henry.

Green Bay has a number of needs on offense at pick No. 45, tight end included, and could be a destination for guys like Sam LaPorta or Tucker Kraft. The Packers are a team to watch if you’re worried about this position.

At No. 46, the New England Patriots can build on a solid first round and pivot to the offensive line, following taking care of a cornerback need in round one. Avila, Bergeron, Schmitz, Jones and Mauch are names that could work for New England.

The Washington Commanders follow at pick No. 47, and yet another team could be in the tight-end market as well as an offensive lineman. This is a team that could spoil some Miami fans’ nights.

At No. 48, the Lions are up again, and with arguable reaches in round one, albeit strong prospects in Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 12 and Jack Campbell at No. 18, it’s anyone’s guess here. If Levis is available here and not a Lion, at this point, it’s a downfall for the record books.

The Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are each offensive line needy, so the grouping of Avila, Bergeron, Schmitz, Jones and Mauch are names to watch out for, of whom is remaining.

Then we get to the Dolphins, and, with all the names mentioned, the realistic guess would be a choice of Washington, Kraft, LaPorta or the remaining available offensive lineman, should all of these tight ends go in addition to Musgrave and Mayer.

If the top five remaining tight ends are selected, the best of the remaining blockers, perhaps Bergeron or Schmitz, could be intriguing for Miami, both able to provide help on the interior.

Those are the five names Miami should either have to choose from or be left with, in a good sense. Should all five be at their disposal, a trade down to in-between picks 56-61 could even net them an extra fourth-round pick on Day 3, and still land them one of these prospects.

Should Miami elect to trade down, the Giants, Jaguars, Bears and Cowboys are solid suitors with their draft positions. Trading up could simply cost too much, as Miami is limited in trade assets, and dealing a player could be too complicated with salary implications.

Nevertheless, Miami will be in a great position to leave the second round with a quality player who could be an immediate help to their team, or even pull a deal to even help them further down the line.

Dolphins enter Day 2 of NFL draft with plenty of options

Who could Miami be looking to add on Day 2?

The NFL draft kicked off last night in Kansas City, and the first round saw a number of trades, a few surprises and left a slew of quality players on the board for Friday in rounds two and three.

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier decided to stay put and not make any moves to re-enter the first round. Of course, the Dolphins once were in the first round twice, but one of those picks turned into Bradley Chubb, and the other was taken away from the NFL due to tampering.

When looking at the first round, the talking points that are pertinent to the Dolphins were the two running backs taken in the top 12, Bijan Robinson to the Falcons and Jahmyr Gibbs to the Lions. Internet rumors swirled that Miami had inquired with teams about moving into the first, however, the assets it would’ve taken, and Grier’s economic stance on running backs, proved this was indeed just a rumor.

Secondly, with just one tight end selected, Dalton Kincaid by the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins could end up with one of the remaining top five at the position. Should they stay at pick No. 51, names like Michael Mayer of Notre Dame, Luke Musgrave of Oregon State, Georgia’s Darnell Washington, Sam LaPorta of Iowa and South Dakota State’s Tucker Kraft are all available entering Friday, when the Pittsburgh Steelers start Day 2.

Miami is also in the market for offensive lineman help, and with about 20 picks until their scheduled first selection in this draft, a number of prospects could be intriguing to Grier.

Cody Mauch of North Dakota State, Matthew Bergeron of Syracuse, Dawand Jones of Ohio State and Steve Avila of TCU are four names to keep a watch on for Friday.

If the Dolphins elect to go tight end or offensive lineman, should the board fall a certain way from picks 32-50, Miami could have some excellent options and even have a choice to trade down a tad, say six to ten picks, and pick up another Day 2 selection.

If Grier could move down the board, pick up another pick, and still select a top-five tight end or quality offensive lineman, this would be a potentially massive win.

Miami may also be heading for an opportunity to potentially bring in a running back after June 1. The Dalvin Cook saga has been playing out the last few months, and with Minnesota set to save the most amount of money via a cut after June 1, the move may just be to wait.

Should the Vikings simply wait until then, a cut of Cook would save them $11 million and create a dead cap of just $3.1 million. As much as Miami fans would like this type of announcement to occur on draft weekend, patience will likely still have to be a virtue in this situation.

Of course, running backs are deep in this class, so Miami could always consider one via draft selection, but as Grier has demonstrated consistently, he doesn’t use top-end draft assets on runners, nor does he break the bank contractually.

While patterns are there to analyze, and the draft boards and strategies change with each pick, Miami enters Day 2 with options, and that’s the best thing you can hope for during the selection meeting. Miami is scheduled to pick at Nos. 51 and 84, with Day 3 picks scheduled at Nos. 197 and 238.

Colts address big needs in 7-round mock draft

Breaking down Chad Reuter’s 7-round mock draft for the Colts.

Less than a week of mock drafts remain until the Indianapolis Colts will make their selections in the 2023 NFL draft.

The fatigue with mock drafts is real, and at this point, we just want to event to arrive. But we’re still going to break down the mock drafts that come out so we can get a better feel for these prospects and potential scenarios.

Here’s a look at Chad Reuter’s seven-round mock draft from the Colts’ perspective with our analysis at the end:

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Offensive Tackles

There are plenty of OT prospects for the Colts in this draft.

The Indianapolis Colts may have an idea of what their starting offensive tackle duo will look like entering the 2023 NFL draft, but depth and competition are needed in the worst way.

With only Bernhard Raimann and Braden Smith as players with experience on the roster, the Colts also have Jordan Murray and Carter O’Donnell rounding out the room. That’s it. We should expect the Colts to add a free agent after the draft, but depth is needed.

It’s a pretty solid draft class for offensive tackles. A lot of them have starting experience and versatility on both sides of the line. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Colts added two offensive tackle prospects with their nine selections.

As we break down the prospects by round, think of the “rounds” as tiers and when I believe the team should begin to consider drafting them.

Throughout this draft speculation season, we’ve been following along with College Sports Wire’s Patrick Conn as he dissects what he believes we’ll see unfold during the draft. He has published several first-round mock projections and just dropped his last one — this time through two rounds — prior to all the festivities we’ll begin to see next Thursday night.

Latest Todd McShay, Mel Kiper Jr. three-round NFL mock draft drops C.J. Stroud, includes other Buckeyes

Would you put money on C.J. Stroud going No. 1 overall at this point, or would you take Bryce Young? #GoBucks

We’re inching ever so closer to the 2023 NFL draft, and with it, there continues to be some movement of players based on what the word on the street is. Two guys that are more plugged in than almost anyone out there are ESPN’s Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr.

And while the two of them normally compose their own separate mock drafts, they recently teamed up to compile a three-round version just over a week out from what we’ll see in Kansas City.

It wasn’t that long ago that Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud was the odds-on favorite to be selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers, but that seems to have changed now with Alabama’s Bryce Young now being the betting man’s pick.

That’s reflected in the McShay/Kiper mock as well with Stroud dropping a wee bit, but he’s not the only Ohio State player included in the three-round projection. Here’s what the dynamic NFL draft duo says about Stroud and each OSU player they think will go in the first three rounds.
