Four former Tigers win XFL Championship

Sal Canella, Javaris Davis, Mike Horton, and Davonte Lambert are all champions.

The Arlington Renegades won the XFL Championship 35-26 over the D.C. Defenders Saturday night and former Auburn Tigers [autotag]Sal Canella[/autotag], [autotag]Javaris Davis[/autotag], [autotag]Mike Horton[/autotag], and [autotag]Davonte Lambert[/autotag] helped them do so.

Canella, who played for Auburn from 2017-19, caught a 41-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and give the Renegades an early lead over the Defenders. The tight end finished the game with four catches for 71 yards and the score.

Despite being one of their top receivers throughout the season that was his first touchdown of the season.

Horton started at left guard for the Renegades and helped hold the Defenders to just one sack in the game.

Lambert and Davis did not record any stats in the game.

It wasn’t all positive news as former Auburn defensive tackle [autotag]Gabe Wright[/autotag] was on the Defenders. While his team lost the game he had a solid performance, making three tackles.

Panthers sign former Buccaneers DE, Baylor CB, waive 2 players

Panthers sign two defensive free agents, waive kicker Elliott Fry plus another DB.

The Carolina Panthers have signed two more free agents today, according to a release on the official team website.

Carolina added to the defensive backs room by signing cornerback Derrek Thomas, who played for head coach Matt Rhule at both Temple and Baylor. After his college career was over he went undrafted, then he spent time with the Seahawks and Steelers in the offseason but did he not play in 2019.

The Panthers also added to the defensive line again, signing former Buccaneers defensive end DaVonte Lambert. He played 11 games for Tampa in 2016 but hasn’t been on the field in the regular season since.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the team waived kicker Elliott Fry and defensive back Dominique Hatfield.

As of yet, the Panthers have not announced the reported signing of former Chargers offensive lineman Michael Schofield, who we are projecting to be the new starter at left guard.
