Christian Gonzalez’s eight-word response to shutting out Davante Adams

Christian Gonzalez was dominant on Sunday

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez had the perfect response to shutting out New York Jets All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, following New England’s 25-22 victory on Sunday.

Gonzalez made life difficult for Adams on the field all afternoon. The star wideout could not get anything going against the second-year defensive back. The pair were matched up one-on-one four times, and Adams recorded zero catches in those battles.

Gonzalez is often asked to cover the opponent’s top wide receiver, and he is routinely succeeding in his efforts. The former Oregon star had the perfect eight-word response when asked about shutting down Adams in his post-game press conference.

“I ain’t worried. We won, man. We won,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez has struggled at times this season, but overall, he has been one of the team’s most consistent playmakers. There’s hope that Sunday’s win over the Jets could mark a turning point for the Patriots organization.

Gonzalez looked to be in top form, and that could bode well for the rest of the way.

Ernest Jones IV facing the Bills in back-to-back weeks after trade

Ernest Jones IV facing the Bills in back-to-back weeks after trade

The Buffalo Bills will have the rare chance to face the same player in back-to-back weeks as the team heads to Seattle to face the Seahawks in Week 8.

After a trade between the Seahawks and Tennessee Titans following Week 7, the Bills will go against linebacker Ernest Jones IV again after facing him against the Titans last week.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks traded LB Jerome Baker and a fourth-round draft pick to the Titans for Jones.

In last week’s loss to the Bills, Jones posted five tackles and a pass defended. He appeared on the Bills’ “mic’d up” video of Josh Allen, as he and Allen were bickering back and forth after he made a touchdown-saving tackle on Allen.

Allen will see him again on Sunday. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Jones will see plenty of action against the Bills and that he will fill the middle linebacker role for Seattle, pushing former Bills linebacker Tyrel Dodson from middle to weakside linebacker.

So, Allen will be familiar with both of Seattle’s linebackers in Week 8. One he faced just last game and the other he went against in practice before this year.

Just last week, a similar situation took place in the NFL. Davante Adams lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6 as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, and then after being traded to the New York Jets, he lost again to the Steelers in Week 7.

Allen and the Bills are trying to provide Jones with a similar experience.

Jets’ Davante Adams gave the ‘realest speech’ says Aaron Rodgers

Jets’ Davante Adams gave the ‘realest speech’ says Aaron Rodgers

Davante Adams had only been with the New York Jets for a few days but he still felt the need to step up using his voice.

Following New York’s 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, it was mentioned by other players and coaches that Adams spoke up in the locker room. He gave a speech to his brand new teammates despite only having played one game with them.

Even so, all Adams needed was that short amount of time to get his message across said quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“I thought it was the realest speech I’d ever heard in a locker room in 20 years,” Rodgers said via video conference. “Everybody that was in that locker room felt it.”

As to why Adams felt so inclined and comfortable to speak up, the All-Pro receiver said he felt like he needed to.

“It’s not my personality to see something that’s not right and just let it go on,” Adams explained. “In my mind, it was something that I wouldn’t have been able to see if I didn’t speak up on it.”

The Jets (2-5) will hope Adams’ speech helps get them back to winning ways on Sunday in their next matchup against the New England Patriots (1-6).

Pittsburgh seemingly misses out on another All-Pro WR trade

Four potential WR trade targets have come and gone for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the Rams’ HC seemingly ended the Cooper Kupp trade hype.

From excitment to disappointment, what a difference a day makes. Head Coach Sean McVay crushed the hearts of Pittsburgh Steelers fans in the post-game press conference following Thursday Night Football’s matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams.

The most recent WR trade target on the Steelers’ radar was none other than 31-year-old All-Pro Cooper Kupp of the Rams. The superstar wideout had a solid outing on Thursday Night Football, and McVay took notice. While speaking to the media, the Rams head coach alluded to the trade rumors and practically dashed any hopes of the ‘Steel City’ acquiring the talented receiver.

Are fans placing too much pressure on the shoulders of General Manager Omar Khan and the Steelers’ front office?  Possibly, however, Khan should never have traded away the number one receiver in Pittsburgh, Diontae Johnson, without a proper backup plan in place.

Steelers’ RB Cordarrelle Patterson may end up being the last line of defense for recruiting a star player to Pittsburgh, and WR Mike Williams of the New York Jets could fit that bill.

Steelers RB hilariously asks fans who to recruit next

Cordarrelle Patterson’s recruitment of elite talent to Pittsburgh has resumed, and the Steelers’ RB asks fans who to recruit next.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Cordarrelle Patterson is becoming a fan favorite for the Pittsburgh faithful.  While the Steelers’ acquisition of Patterson was aimed at boosting the running game and special teams unit, the running back has provided something even more valuable—his efforts in recruiting Steelers’ trade targets.

From returning kickoffs and delivering a dominant Week 4 rushing performance, to offering comedic relief during tough times for the team, Patterson has done it all. The running back made his best attempts to recruit Pittsburgh trade targets Davante Adams and Mike Williams, and with the trade deadline around the corner, Patterson is now asking fans who he should recruit next.

One 31-year old All-Pro receiver has been linked to the ‘Steel City’ the past few days. Could Cooper Kupp be the next receiver to hear Patterson’s legendary sales pitch? Or does the running back have another receiver in mind? As the trade deadline approaches, when will Pittsburgh make their move?

AFC East roundup: What happened in the division in Week 7

AFC East roundup: What happened in the division in Week 7

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Tennessee Titans in Week 7 by a score of 34-10. With the win, the Bills remain atop the AFC East with a record of 5-2.

Like Buffalo, the rest of the AFC East was in action. How did each fare last week, and how does the division stack up right now?

Here is a quick recap of what went down in Week 7 with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots:

Miami Dolphins

Going into their Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Colts, the Dolphins were still without starting quarterback Tua Tgovailoa. To make matters worse, their backup QB was injured in the game.

Tyler Huntley left the game with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Tim Boyle. Neither QB was effective as Dolphins wide receivers only caught four total passes. The Dolphins lost 16-10 and dropped to 2-4 on the year.

New York Jets

The Jets made headlines last week after trading for WR Davante Adams. But, even rekindling the relationship between him and Aaron Rodgers couldn’t get the team on track.

The Jets lost 37-15 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on ‘Sunday Night Football’. Rodgers threw two interceptions and running back Breece Hall only averaged 3.1 yards per carry. The loss has the Jets sitting at a disappointing 2-5 record after many in the offseason predicted they would make a run at the division title.

New England Patriots

The Patriots had to travel to London in Week 7 to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. They had a disappointing flight home after a 32-16 loss.

Their defense couldn’t make stops and their offensive line couldn’t protect their young QB Drake Maye. They allowed 32 points to the Jags who average 20 per game. The loss drops the Pats to 1-6 on the year.

Davante Adams criticizing the Jets’ energy hits hard considering he just left the hopeless Raiders

Davante Adams really thinks the Jets are as listless as the Raiders.

At 2-5, the New York Jets’ first full season with Aaron Rodgers is quickly spiraling down the drain. It turns out that firing Robert Saleh did not fix all the Jets’ problems. And the irony as Rodgers unsurprisingly turns his ire toward the media — while he turns in one of the worst seasons of his career — is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

The Jets brought in Davante Adams from the hapless Las Vegas Raiders to help pull them out of their tailspin. The problem is that while Adams is a superstar receiver, he’s probably much more of a devout Rodgers loyalist than a “great leader” to whom everyone should listen.

That’s my exact reaction after learning that Adams apparently delivered the “realest” (eye roll) postgame speech after the Pittsburgh Steelers walloped the New York Jets on Sunday. Lest we forget, he just came from the flat, insipid Raiders, who have almost nothing going for them.

So it’s eye-opening that Adams already thinks similarly about the Jets after only recently leaving Las Vegas:

Oh. How fiery. How inspiring … anyway.

If Adams thinks the Jets are lacking in-game energy less than a week after leaving one of the NFL’s worst teams, that can’t say anything good about the culture in New York. That screams of a squad on the verge of giving up because everyone who is ostensibly the starting quarterback’s “boss” is a brazen, sycophantic loser who will see this budding dumpster fire all the way through to its inevitable bitter end.

Excellent job, owner Woody Johnson. Your expensive team just brought in another old star who already detests the organizational culture right after leaving one of the NFL’s most toxic environments.

You’re doing great, buddy!

Raiders get their number one receiver back at practice

The first real sign Jakobi Meyers could return to the lineup as the Raiders’ top receiver hits the practice field today.

After missing the past couple weeks with an ankle injury, Jakobi Meyers will take the practice Wednesday. This according to head coach Antonio Pierce. This opens up the possibility that Meyers could return to the lineup when the Chiefs come to town on Sunday.

With both Meyers and Davante Adams not in the lineup the past couple weeks, the Raiders offense struggled to get any kind of significant production from the wide receiver position.

Adams is now in New York, so the significance of having Meyers back can’t be overstated. He is the closest thing this team has to a number one receiver.

Without him, fellow starter Tre Tucker had difficulty getting open. He was consistently facing double teams down the field which led to just three catches for 36 yards over the past two weeks combined.

DJ Turner got the start in the slot, but the other outside receiver spot was shared by practice squad call ups Alex Bachman and Kristian Wilkerson. Neither of whom had a target in the loss to the Rams last Sunday.

Russell Wilson wasn’t washed but Jets’ Nathaniel Hackett did ‘hack’ his career

Russell Wilson wasn’t washed but Jets’ Nathaniel Hackett did ‘hack’ his career

After two seasons in Denver, many wondered if Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson still had the prowess needed to compete as a starter in the NFL.

Well, after shredding the New York Jets pass defense for 264 pass yards and three total touchdowns on Sunday in a 37-15 Steelers win, its time to recant.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DBZlnS5SEjW/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Sometimes, a change in coaching can have a ginormous impact on the performance of NFL players. Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was in charge of designing plays for Wilson in 2022 but his pass heavy play scheme didn’t really match Wilson’s play style.

Obviously, Hackett’s scheme didn’t work for Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers this season either, so maybe Hackett is the issue. Furthermore, maybe Hackett is often over credited for the superhuman talent and accuracy Rodgers possessed in his prime.

Hackett wasn’t around for Rodgers’ Super Bowl XLV victory with the Green Bay Packers either so maybe Hackett’s acclaim is disproportionate as well.

Nevertheless, Wilson. who attempted just 29 pass attempts in Week 7 against New York, was heavily supported by the power running of Najee Harris and secondary back Jaylen Warren. Similarly to Wilson’s time with the Seattle Seahawks, he won’t be asked to be Tom Brady by head coach Mike Tomlin. He will be summoned to strive in the vertical passing game and sustain drives as a complement to the Steelers defense.

Next time, before analysts go around scorning players with extreme merit, they might consider the circumstantial barriers that could be inhibiting them from success. Luckily for Wilson, he is now part of a franchise that plans on optimizing his skill set and not forcing him into play style that does not fit him.

Jets’ Davante Adams wants to quickly take a leadership role (video)

Jets’ Davante Adams wants to quickly take a leadership role (video)

Davante Adams got a crash course on how the 2024 NFL season has gone for the Jets after being traded to the team just last week.

Adams suited up and caught three passes for 30 yards in a 37-15 loss to the Steelers in Week 7 on “Sunday Night Football.”

After the fact, he revealed to the “Up & Adams” show that he is hopeful to quickly take up a leadership position with his new team. In fact, he said that has already begun.

“I had a few words to say to the team after the [Steelers] game,” Adams said.

Not much has worked in recent weeks for the Jets. Hopefully his words do.

Adams’ full thoughts can be found in the clip below:
