Fantasy football: Davante Adams chooses the Rams ahead of free agency

Adams agrees to join LA following his departure from the Jets.

The end of speculating whether free-agent wide receiver Davante Adams would follow Aaron Rodgers to a new location or reunite once again with New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr comes to an end as the veteran opted for a two-year, $46 million deal to join the Los Angeles Rams.

In LA, Adams will pair with third-year pro Puka Nacua, who is coming off an injury-interrupted season. When healthy, he looked very much like the WR1 star from his rookie season. Cooper Kupp won’t be returning to the team, and Adams slides into the veteran possession role for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Turning 33 in December, Adams still was able to get the job done enough to post a better per-game average of PPR points in 2024 than the prior season when he finished with his fourth consecutive 100-plus-catch effort. He’s quarterback-proof — not that Stafford is a drop-off in that regard — but the quarterback carousel in Vegas didn’t really hinder his fantasy production prior to being traded to the New York Jets last year when he caught passes from a familiar face to play out the string.

Fantasy football outlook

We’ve seen two receivers post quality fantasy numbers at once in this system, and there’s also the bonus of playing indoors for at least half of his games. Barring a catastrophic regression due to age, it’s difficult to expect Adams to finish any worse than a WR3 in PPR scoring, but he is not without risk due to age and an elevated chance of injury. Conversely, there’s also little reason to expect he’ll dominate like we’ve seen in the past, mostly due to Nacua being such a target hog and Sean McVay’s commitment to the ground game.

With that established, the initial slotting for Adams is a low-end WR2 on the safe side with slightly more if you’re of the optimistic perspective.

Davante Adams Jets reunion with Aaron Rodgers looks to be over already

The Jets gave up a third round pick to the Raiders for Davante Adams only to have Aaron Rodgers do what he does and pull the rug out.

Three games into last season, all the smoke about Davante Adams wanting to re-join his buddy Aaron Rodgers in New York turned out to be fire. Despite all of Adams’s denial that he wanted out, it was still September and he was forcing the Raiders’ hand.

After sitting out a few games with a sudden (phantom) ankle injury, the Raiders made the deal happen, sending him to the Jets for a third round pick.

What was supposed to solve all the issues facing both Adams and Rodgers — and the Jets — never quite materialized. The Jets won just three games in the 11 games the two were back together.

And now, not the least bit surprisingly, Rodgers is said to be wanting out. And Adams is unlikely return as well.

When you look back at it, Adams kind of did the Raiders a solid here. Not to say it was intentional on his part, but the Raiders were going nowhere with or without him. Just like the Jets. The difference is the Raiders got the Jets to give up a third round pick for the pleasure.

As Rapoport noted, Adams wants to return to the West Coast. Which could put him back home with the 49ers, in Los Angeles with the Chargers or Rams, or perhaps Seattle.

Two elite playmaking options could emerge for Patriots in offseason

Could New England be a landing spot for one of these two big-name receivers?

The New England Patriots will be in the market for offensive playmakers this offseason. So it’s definitely a good thing that two more elite playmaking options could be available for interested teams.

New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams is the first name that comes to mind with the Jets reportedly moving on from legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. If the Jets are no longer in win-now mode, it makes no sense for them to keep Adams on their roster.

The 32-year-old receiver would be better off joining a team with a franchise quarterback already in place. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport pointed out that Adams’ $38.3 million cap number would be “untenable” for the Jets, which means he’d have to agree to a new contract to stay in New York.

That likely means his time with the team is done.

San Francisco 49ers’ do-everything wide receiver Deebo Samuel is another player the Patriots should keep an eye on. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the 49ers have permitted Samuel to find a trade partner for his contract.

It would be fun to see all of the creative ways Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could implement a player like Samuel in the offense. However, some major injury concerns would come along with the hefty price tag.

The Patriots have a multitude of different options in free agency with Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin topping the list of available wide receivers. Quarterback Drake Maye’s rapid development has forced a sense of urgency on the Patriots’ front office in assembling the right talent.

There are no excuses to come up empty-handed with multiple available options and the most cap space in the NFL.

Rumor: WR Davante Adams ‘open’ to joining Chargers if released

The Chargers could be a possible landing spot for a three-time All-Pro wide receiver.

The Chargers will be in the market for a wide receiver this offseason. There will be plenty of intriguing options in free agency, and one wideout still under contract could be among the crop.

Davante Adams is a candidate to be released by the Jets. Should he become available, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that he is “intrigued” by the idea of returning to play on the West Coast and “open” to teams like the Chargers.

Adams also mentioned the Rams and 49ers as teams he’d be interested in playing for.

Adams finished the 2024 season with 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns during his time with the Raiders and Jets. This marked his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season.

The 32-year-old Adams would provide Los Angeles’ offense with a reliable receiver for Justin Herbert on one-on-one balls, something they haven’t had since losing Mike Williams.

Adams would only open things for rookie sensation Ladd McConkey, who led the team with 1,149 yards this past season. The veteran wideout’s presence could also aid Quentin Johnston, who had a team-high eight touchdowns.

Report: Davante Adams would be open to playing for Rams, other West Coast teams

If the Jets release him, Davante Adams would be open to playing for West Coast teams like the Rams and Chargers

The New York Jets have a lot to sort out this offseason, from Aaron Rodgers’ future to Davante Adams’ situation. Adams is still under contract but there’s a chance the Jets will release him as they start their rebuild under new head coach Aaron Glenn.

In the event that Adams gets cut, he’ll likely be a hot commodity on the open market. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Adams would at least be open to playing for teams like the Rams and Chargers as he is intrigued by a return to the West Coast, where he is from.

Here’s what Fowler wrote about Adams’ future in his notebook for ESPN.

The Jets must address the future of receiver Davante Adams, whose $38.3 million cap hit is untenable. A source told me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released. I would put the 49ers in the conversation, too. Adams grew up in Northern California.

The Rams have their own wide receiver decisions to sort through first before even considering any potential free agents. They’re attempting to trade Cooper Kupp and plan to part ways with the veteran wideout, while Tutu Atwell and Demarcus Robinson are both pending free agents, too.

Assuming the Rams move on from Kupp and don’t re-sign Robinson or Atwell, they could be in the market for a player like Adams. Of course, Adams may not be as intrigued by the Rams if Matthew Stafford doesn’t return, so that’s another domino that needs to fall.

Tyreek Hill teases Steelers as potential landing spot on social media

Tyreek Hill sparks Steelers trade rumors after posting a video with a Steelers helmet subtly visible in the background.

Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers have been down the ‘WR trade rumor road’ before. Brandon Aiyuk, Davante Adams, D.K. Metcalf, and Cooper Kupp were all linked to the Black and Gold as potential trade candidates throughout the 2024 season.

However, the Steelers ultimately decided on a receiver who demanded less trade compensation—former New York Jets WR Mike Williams.

Another receiver from the AFC East has been linked as a potential 2025 trade candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers this past week: Dolphins superstar WR Tyreek Hill.

Hill recently alluded to being done with the Miami Dolphins after quitting during the Week 18 contest and changing his profile picture to mimic former Steelers WR Antonio Brown.

Adding further speculation to a potential Steelers-Dolphins trade, Hill recently uploaded a video to social media featuring a Steelers helmet hidden in the background.

The Pittsburgh Steelers desperately need to upgrade their wide receiver room heading into the 2025 offseason, and Hill—even at 30 years old—would be incredible in the Steel City.

Aaron Rodgers gets Davante Adams annihilated on Jets trick play

Davante Adams took a wild hit on a Jets trick play

One can be certain this is not the way the play was drawn up.

The New York Jets decided to pull out all the stops since there was no reason to hide anything in the playbook on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

They tried a trick play that involved Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers exchanging the football.

After a backward pass from Adams to Rodgers, the veteran QB had no options down the field. So, he threw it back to the wide receiver who was blasted.

One play sums up AaroN Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets to perfection.

Causes for concern as the Bills take on the Jets in Week 17

Causes for concern as the Bills take on the Jets in Week 17

The Buffalo Bills will host the New York Jets in Week 17 at Highmark Stadium.

The Bills (12-3) and Jets (4-11) have trended in different directions this season. The Bills have won nine of their last 10 games while the Jets have lost five of their last six.

Even though Buffalo is favored to win the game, there are always a few things that make winning difficult each week. The Bills will need to be wary of them.

Here are three causes for concern for the Bills against the Jets in Week 17:

Jets skill players

USA TODAY Sports

The Jets have one of the better wide-receiver duos in the NF:L. Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson are troubling to keep track of, even with high-level corners like Christian Benford, Rasul Douglas, and Taron Johnson.

Parlay that with running back Breece Hall, who can do a little bit of everything out of the backfield, and you have players all over the field that you need to pay close attention to. This offense has a high ceiling, even if it hasn’t played up to it for much of the season.

Rodgers can still beat you

USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Rodgers has picked up his game over recent weeks. He has reached 250 passing yards in each of the last three games. Meanwhile, the Bills defense has allowed 250-plus passing yards in each of the last three contests.

Sean McDermott, Bobby Babich, and the Bills defense need to right the ship as they head towards postseason play. Facing an Aaron Rodgers-led offense is a good test.

Divisional game

It’s a dangerous game when you have your eyes set on the playoffs and there are hungry divisional opponents still on your regular season schedule. The Bills need a win to clinch the two-seed in the AFC. And, they have now been humbled a bit by last week’s close win over the Patriots (24-21).

It was a close game in Week 6 when the Bills visited the Jets. The Bills squeaked by with a 23-20 win. Divisional games always present unique challenges. The coaching staff will have to adjust on the fly without going too deep into the playbook on Sunday.
