Ryan Hall vs. Darrick Minner in the works for UFC 269 in December

An intriguing featherweight clash between a pair of dangerous submission artists is seemingly set for December.

An intriguing featherweight clash between a pair of dangerous submission artists is in the works for December.

[autotag]Ryan Hall[/autotag] and [autotag]Darrick Minner[/autotag] have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 269, MMA Junkie today learned from two people with knowledge of the booking. Those people asked to remain anonymous because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Five of Hall’s eight career wins have come by submission, while an incredible 22 of Minner’s 26 professional victories have come by tapout.

Featuring a pair of title fights atop the bill, UFC 269 takes place Dec. 11. While a location for the event has yet to be announced, it’s expected to be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The 36-year-old Hall (8-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) will look to bounce back from a devastating knockout loss to Ilia Topuria from July. After struggling to get a fight booked for nearly two years, the disappointing result ended a four-fight win streak for “The Wizard” under the UFC banner.

Meanwhile, Minner (26-12 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will also return to the cage following a July setback, sufferingg a TKO loss to veteran Darren Elkins at UFC on ESPN 27. The result ended a two-fight winning streak for Minner.

With the expected addition to the card, the UFC 269 lineup now includes:

  • Champ Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena – for women’s bantamweight title
  • Champ Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo – for flyweight title
  • Randy Costa vs. Tony Kelley
  • Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara-France
  • Priscila Cachoeira vs. Gillian Robertson
  • Maycee Barber vs. Montana De La Rosa
  • Dricus Du Plessis vs. Andre Muniz
  • Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell
  • Ryan Hall vs. Darrick Minner

UFC on ESPN 27: Darren Elkins repeats history, completes blood-soaked comeback against Darrick Minner

Darren Elkins did Darren Elkins things at UFC on ESPN 27 when he mounted another improbable comeback and finished Darrick Minner.

[autotag]Darren Elkins[/autotag] did it again.

Synonymous with the unlikeliest of comebacks, Elkins (25-9 MMA, 15-8 UFC) once again defied the odds when he rallied from a difficult first round to finish [autotag]Darrick Minner[/autotag] (26-11 MMA, 2-1 UFC) with ground-and-pound at 3:48 of Round 2 during their UFC on ESPN 27 fight.

The featherweight contest was the third fight on the UFC on ESPN 27 main card. The event took place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and aired on ESPN.

Elkins, 37, was outgrappled and nearly submitted at multiple points in the first round – a period of time during which Minner is known for finishing fights. Split open above his left eye, Elkins survived guillotine attempts and an armbar.

In Round 2, Elkins took over in the grappling department. For minutes, he worked in and out of the crucifix position as the damage to Minner mounted. Death by a thousand paper cuts, Elkins continued to hammer away until the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Darren Elkins vs. Darrick Minner added to UFC Fight Night on July 24

Veteran grappler Darren Elkins will tangle with rising featherweight Darrick Minner in summer.

Veteran grappler [autotag]Darren Elkins[/autotag] will tangle with rising featherweight [autotag]Darrick Minner[/autotag] in summer.

Elkins (25-9 MMA, 15-8 UFC) faces Minner (26-11 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at a UFC Fight Night event on July 24, a card that does not currently have an announced location or venue.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking on Friday but asked to remain anonymous because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Elkins will look to string consecutive wins together for the first time since January 2018. After winning six straight fights, the Team Alpha Male fighter endured a rough patch when he dropped four in a row, but he was able to snap his losing skid this past November with a third-round submission of Eduardo Garagorri.

Meanwhile, Dana White’s Contender Series alum Minner will look to make it three straight wins. Training out of Glory MMA, Minner is coming off back-to-back wins over T.J. Laramie and, most recently, Charles Rosa in February. A ground specialist, 22 of Minner’s 26 pro wins have come by submission.

With the addition, the UFC’s July 24 lineup now includes:

  • T.J. Dillashaw vs. Cory Sandhagen
  • Maycee Barber vs. Miranda Maverick
  • Macy Chiasson vs. Aspen Ladd
  • Trevin Jones vs. Tony Kelley
  • Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips
  • Mickey Gall vs. Jordan Williams
  • Randy Costa vs. Adrian Yanez
  • Ian Heinisch vs. Nassourdine Imavov
  • Julio Arce vs. Andre Ewell
  • Darren Elkins vs. Darrick Minner
