Alan Patrick could be looking at 180 days on the sidelines after getting poked in the eye at UFC Fight Night 189.

[autotag]Alan Patrick[/autotag] could be looking at 180 days on the sidelines after getting poked in the eye at UFC Fight Night 189.

Patrick’s lightweight fight with [autotag]Mason Jones[/autotag] at the UFC Apex was ruled a no contest after an accidental eye poke rendered him unable to continue. Patrick must have doctor clearance for his left eye peri-orbital laceration before getting cleared to compete again.

On Wednesday, MMA Junkie acquired a full list of the UFC Fight Night 189 medical suspensions handed out by the Nevada Athletic Commission from MixedMartialArts.com, the Association of Boxing Commission’s official record keeper.

Also potentially facing six months on the shelf is [autotag]Ilir Latifi[/autotag] who claimed he suffered multiple arm fractures in his split decision win over [autotag]Tanner Boser[/autotag]. Latifi needs doctor clearance for his left eye hyphema and must have an MRI of his left elbow.

The third fighter also potentially benched for a while is [autotag]Sean Woodson[/autotag], who edged out [autotag]Youssef Zalal[/autotag] in the prelims. Woodson needs an X-ray of his left hand and an MRI of his left knee before getting cleared.

After first career TKO win, UFC’s Montana De La Rosa would love to fight Antonina Shevchenko

Fresh off a big finish at UFC Fight Night 189, Montana De La Rosa already has her mind set on whom she wants next.

Fresh off a big finish, [autotag]Montana De La Rosa[/autotag] already has her mind set on whomm she wants to fight next.

De La Rosa (12-6-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) scored the first TKO win of her career when she battered, bloodied and stopped Ariane Lipski in the second round this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 189. The win landed her in the UFC’s top 15 flyweight rankings, and she thinks a matchup with [autotag]Antonina Shevchenko[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC), who’s faced similar opposition, makes sense.

“I’m kind of leaning toward Antonina,” De La Rosa told MMA Junkie Radio. “She beat the girl I just beat, and she just got beat by Andrea (Lee). I think it’s just a good matchup. I would love to have that fight.”

Having already competed twice in 2021, De La Rosa wants to take some time off. The Texas-based fighter has been doing her camps at Elevation Fight Team in Colorado, forcing her to spend a significant time away from her daughter.

De La Rosa does want to fight at least one more time before the end of the year, though, and is targeting a fall return.

“I fought in February, and I just fought (Saturday), so basically I had two eight-week camps in Colorado,” De La Rosa said. “So I was honestly only (home) for like maybe a month total out of the whole year so far. So it’ll be nice to at least take this month. And I’m still going to be training, obviously, at my home gym and just be here in Texas and not have a fight lined up. I would like not to have a fight lined up probably until like anything after September. I think I could get back in there.”

USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, June 8: Marcin Tybura climbs back into list

Marcin Tybura is no stranger to the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, but he’d spent more than two years without his name on them.

Poland’s [autotag]Marcin Tybura[/autotag] is no stranger to the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie heavyweight rankings, but he’d spent more than two years without his name on them.

Tybura (22-6, 9-5 UFC) battled through a 1-4 stretch between 2017 and 2019, and he slid down the list and eventually completely out of the heavyweight rankings. However, he’s since put together an impressive five-fight win streak, including a “Performance of the Night” win over Walt Harris (13-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 189 event.

With his most recent victory, Tybura returns to the rankings at No. 15 and hopes to continue rising back up the list.

Of course, Tybura and Harris weren’t the only heavyweights in action on the card, with [autotag]Jairzinho Rozenstruik[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) also scoring a first-round stoppage of [autotag]Augusto Sakai[/autotag] (15-3-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in the night’s main event.

With UFC Fight Night 189 in the books, take a peek at the new look of the heavyweight rankings. Additionally, check out the remaining divisions ahead of an incredibly busy weekend of upcoming action.

Video: Suriname and Brazil collide at UFC Fight Night 189

Despite recent losses by both men, “the dream is still the same.”

UFC Fight Night 189 is days away and it features a main event matchup between two of the promotion’s largest athletes.

The event takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

Despite recent losses by both men, “the dream is still the same,” as one-half of the heavyweight headliner, [autotag]Jairzinho Rozenstruik[/autotag] put it in a recent promotional video ahead of his fight against [autotag]Augusto Sakai[/autotag].

Rozenstruik (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who represents Suriname, has lost two of his most recent three outings, but the defeats came against top-tier talent in current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and top contender Ciryl Gane. The losses bookend a TKO win over Junior Dos Santos in August.

Meanwhile, Sakai (15-2-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) lost for the first time in four years, when he was defeated by Alistair Overeem at UFC Fight Night 176 in September. Prior to that fight, Sakai defeated Blagoy Ivanov, Marcin Tybura, Andrei Arlovski, and Chase Sherman to kick off his promotional tenure.

The UFC Fight Night 189 lineup includes:

MAIN CARD (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET)

  • Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Augusto Sakai
  • Walt Harris vs. Marcin Tybura
  • Roman Dolidze vs. Laureano Staropoli
  • Miguel Baeza vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio
  • Gregory Rodrigues vs. Dusko Todorovic
  • Antonio Arroyo vs. Tom Breese

PRELIMINARY CARD (ESPN+, 4 p.m. ET)

  • Montana De La Rosa vs. Ariane Lipski
  • Tanner Boser vs. Ilir Latifi

Kamuela Kirk steps in to fight Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Night 189

With Nate Landwehr off UFC Fight Night 189, a promotional newcomer steps in to fight “Mr. Finland.”

[autotag]Makwan Amirkhani[/autotag] has a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 189.

With Nate Landwehr out due to injury, “Mr. Finland” Amirkhani (16-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) will now face off against promotional newcomer and Dana White’s Contender Series alum [autotag]Kamuela Kirk[/autotag].

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking, but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC Fight Night 189 takes place June 5 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

Amirkhani, 32, is looking to get back on track after a unanimous decision loss to Edson Barboza at UFC Fight Night 179 this past October. After a 3-0 start to his promotional tenure, Amirkhani has gone 3-3 with wins over Danny Henry, Chris Fishgold and Jason Knight.

Kirk (11-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) signed a UFC deal on the heels of back-to-back wins in the LFA. In his most recent fight, Kirk won his first LFA headliner when he defeated Daniel Swain by retirement TKO. Kirk competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 3 in 2019, but lost to Billy Quarantillo.

With the change, the UFC Fight Night 189 lineup now includes:

  • Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Augusto Sakai
  • Muslim Salikhov vs. Francisco Trinaldo

With Maki Pitolo out, LFA champ Gregory Rodrigues steps in to face Dusko Todorovic at UFC Fight Night 189

Just days after winning the LFA title, Gregory Rodrigues has gotten the UFC call.

Just days after winning the LFA title, [autotag]Gregory Rodrigues[/autotag] has gotten the UFC call.

[autotag]Maki Pitolo[/autotag] has been forced out of UFC Fight Night 189 and Rodrigues (9-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will step in on short notice to face [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on June 5.

A person with knowledge of the booking confirmed the news to MMA Junkie on Tuesday. The person asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Fighter Path was first to report the new matchup.

Rodrigues has gotten a second opportunity to compete in the UFC. After failing to secure a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series when he was stopped by Jordan Williams, Rodrigues rebounded with back-to-back knockouts and claimed the middleweight title with a first-round finish of Josh Fremd at LFA 108 this past Saturday.

Todorovic, a Contender Series graduate, has split his first two UFC appearances. After stopping Dequan Townsend in the second round in his octagon debut, Todorovic endured his first career loss when he was knocked out by Puna Soriano at UFC on ABC 1 in January.

With the change, the UFC Fight Night 189 lineup now includes:
