Get to know Seahawks 2nd-round pick defensive end Darrell Taylor

A closer look, including college highlights, of Tennessee Vols’ defensive end Darrell Taylor who the Seattle Seahawks selected at No. 48.

In a rare move, the Seattle Seahawks traded up Friday night to select Tennessee Vols’ defensive end, Darrell Taylor. Seattle sent the No. 59 and No. 101 picks to the New York Jets in exchange for No. 48 overall.

Taylor, 23, grew up in Virginia and received offers from Florida and Virginia Tech before ultimately deciding on the University of Tennessee, where he was listed as a linebacker.

In 13 games played for the Vols in 2019, Taylor lead the team with 46 total tackles – 28 of those solo – 8.5 sacks, four passes defended and a fumble recovery. He tied for second in sacks in the SEC.

Throughout his college career, Taylor managed 118 tackles, 19.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and seven passes defended over 38 games.

Here’s a look at the highlight reel from his senior season.

Darrell Taylor provides much needed boost for Seahawks defensive line

The Seattle Seahawks addressed one of their biggest needs in the 2020 NFL Draft when they selected Tennessee defensive end Darrell Taylor.

[jwplayer 6D12Ljh2-ThvAeFxT]

The Seattle Seahawks are in dire need of help along the defensive line. After selecting linebacker Jordyn Brooks with their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Seahawks addressed this position with their first pick of the second day.

With the No. 16 pick in the second round – No. 48 overall – the Seattle Seahawks snagged Tennessee defensive end, Darrell Taylor. Seattle traded with the Jets to move up for Taylor, giving New York picks No. 59 and 101 in exchange.

Darrell Taylor provides a much-needed boost to one of the weakest pass rush units in the NFL. Last season Seattle was a bottom-3 team with only 28 sacks, and with the fate of free-agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney still in the air, the Seahawks had to make considerable moves.

Adding Taylor brings another piece to a defensive line under reconstruction, as Seattle brought back two former Seahawks in Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa. He’ll also join last year’s first pick L.J. Collier and potential breakout defensive end Rasheem Green.

Taylor led the Tennessee Volunteers with 8.5 sacks, 46 total tackles – 10 of which went for losses – and four pass deflections. He is one of only three Volunteers to ever record four sacks in a single game.

Seahawks have 4 picks remaining after trade up in 2020 NFL draft

After trading two picks to the New York Jets in order to move up in the 2020 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks have just four picks remaining.

The Seattle Seahawks made another surprising move on Friday evening, trading up in the 2020 NFL draft in order to select Tennessee edge defender Darrell Taylor.

The Seahawks sent their first pick in the second round (59 overall) as well as their third round pick (101 overall) to the New York Jets in order to acquire the 48th pick, which they used on Taylor.

Seattle came into the draft with just seven picks in the 2020 NFL draft, and now the team has just four picks remaining with the majority of the draft still yet to happen.

Here are Seattle’s four remaining picks, as of this writing:

Round 2 (64)

Round 4 (133)

Round 4 (144)

Round 6 (214)

Seattle has averaged just under 10 picks per draft in the past few years, and it would not be a huge surprise to see John Schneider trade down and acquire more picks on Day 3 of the NFL draft.

For now, the second and third rounds will continue on Friday evening, and rounds 4-7 will kick off at 9:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, April 25.

Seattle Seahawks select Tennessee EDGE Darrell Taylor at No. 48

The Seattle Seahawks traded pick No. 59 and pick No. 101 to the Jets for pick No. 48, which they used to select Tennessee DE Darrell Taylor.

The Seattle Seahawks made another surprising move in the 2020 NFL draft, trading pick No. 59 and pick No. 101 to the New York Jets to acquire pick No. 48, which they used to select Tennessee defensive end Darrell Taylor.

Taylor fits a need for the Seahawks, as the team was among the worst at rushing the quarterback during the 2019 season. Now, the team watched Quinton Jefferson sign with the Bills and has yet to re-sign star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, making the defensive end spot even more of a need.

Taylor is one of very few players from the college ranks who had eight or more sacks in each of the past two seasons, and he has an NFL body with incredible play strength, burst, tackling ability and playmaking skills – making him a prototypical Seahawks-type draft pick.

Taylor is rather raw, however, being called a player with five-star traits and three-star skill level at this point by NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein.

Taylor will compete for snaps right away on the edge for the Seahawks, who now have just four picks remaining in the 2020 NFL draft.

KNOXVILLE — Former Tennessee edge rusher Darrell Taylor has been selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Taylor was taken in the second round (48th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He played for the Vols from 2015-19 and switched from defensive end to outside linebacker during Jeremy Pruitt’s first season as Tennessee’s head coach in 2018.

Taylor recorded 19.5 sacks, 26.5 tackles for a loss, six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries during his 43-game Tennessee career.

As a senior, Taylor had 8.5 sacks and 46 tackles in 2019.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound linebacker is from Hopewell High School in Hopewell, Va.

The 2020 NFL Draft will take place Thursday through Saturday and will be televised on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.

Round 1 will kickoff at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, and rounds 2 and 3 will be held Friday beginning at 7 p.m. ET. The 2020 NFL Draft will conclude Saturday with Rounds 4 through 7 starting at noon ET.

The Athletic predicts Bills fortify defense in Day 2 mock draft

The two players are LSU’s Krisitan Fulton in the second round followed by Tennessee’s Darrell Taylor.

With the second day of the 2020 NFL Draft set to get underway Friday, The Athletic put together their predictions on how the second and third rounds will unfold.

The Bills hold their first two picks of the draft in that time frame. There’s still talent the Bills can land with both picks, at No. 54 and No. 86, respectively. The Athletic picks a cornerback and defensive end for the Bills in those slots.

The two players are LSU’s Krisitan Fulton in the second round followed by Tennessee’s Darrell Taylor. Here’s how draft analyst Dane Brugler sees it (at least in regard to Taylor):

Taylor looks the part and has ability, but he needs to let it loose and prove he can translate his talent into consistent football production. And the chance to learn from Jerry Hughes could be what bridges the gap in his development.

In both instances, the draftees would come to the Bills and have a dog fight on their hands to find playing time as rookies. Taylor would be stuffed behind Hughes and Mario Addison in 2020, while Fulton would enter a four-way battle for the No. 2 cornerback, a battle that already includes incumbent Levi Wallace and free agent additions Josh Norman and EJ Gaines.

At 6-foot-4 and near 260 pounds, Taylor has the frame of an NFL edge defender. At this point he’s viewed as a raw prospect, but again, the Bills would provide him that time to improve. Fulton’s addition would certainly be welcomed by Tre’Davious White, a fellow LSU alum. Fulton has ideal size at 6-foot, 197 pounds, to help the Bills secondary deal with bigger receivers down the road.

10 potential targets for Cardinals in the 3rd round of the draft

The Cardinals have one selection on Day 2 as of right now – pick 72 in Round 3. Here are ten players they could look to select.

The NFL Draft is finally upon us this week. While there has been a lot of talk about what Arizona could do at pick 8, how about at pick 72?

This player could also play a big role in this upcoming season, even if they aren’t a full-time starter.

Here are 10 players that could make sense for the Cardinals.

Zack Moss, RB, Utah

 Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona has shown quite a bit of interest in Moss, having a FaceTime visit with him and spent time with him at the combine. He makes some sense in Round 3. He’s not a back that fits every system, but would make for a good one-two punch with Kenyan Drake.

Moss would bring a bigger body to the backfield room, but not only that, he would bring a surprising amount of elusiveness and ability to cause miss tackles. Those traits are what led him to be PFF’s number one ranked running back.

Moss finished 2019 with 1,416 yards for the Utes to go along with 28 catches out of the backfield and 17 total TDs.

2020 NFL Draft: Jets trade up for Andrew Thomas in 3-round CBS Sports mock

The Jets land Andrew Thomas in CBS Sports’ most recent three-round mock draft projections.

With the 2020 NFL Draft less than a week away, CBS Sports released a new three-round mock.

In these projections, CBS Sports’ Dan Schneier has the Jets trading up to secure the offensive tackle of their choosing. After that, the Jets are able to acquire a starter at receiver and an edge rusher who has the potential to eventually be one.

Let’s take a look at who Schneier has the Jets taking in Rounds 1-3.

Round 1 (via JAC):

9. Andrew Thomas | OT | Georgia

(Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports)

The Jets move up two spots to ensure they’ll get Andrew Thomas. In this projected trade, the Jets part ways with picks Nos. 11 and 79 while adding pick No. 116 in the process.

Here’s CBS Sports’ explanation for the trade-up and selection:

The Jets don’t chance a team trading up ahead of the Giants to draft the third of the big-four OTs (before their cross-town rival snags the last one at No. 10). The Jets lose their best Day 2 pick in the process (but grab back an early Day 3 pick), but that’s a fine price to pay to lock in their choice of the final two OTs (an absolute must given the current depth chart). Thomas has played against some of the best competition in the SEC, but he is my OT4 in this class (only slightly behind the top three) due to issues I spot in pass protection. At times when you watch Thomas, it also feels like he was hidden by Georgia’s play-action heavy system. A case can be made that Thomas is OT1 and for some teams who just might be — the Jets come away thrilled with this pick.

New York had a private dinner with Andrew Thomas and worked him out the next morning before pre-draft visits were shut down, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. It’s clear that the Jets have done their homework on the Georgia tackle. The question that remains is will he make it out of the top-10? The Dolphins have shown interest and have the draft capital to trade up and grab him if need be.

Thomas didn’t have the best combine but his results at Georgia point to a model of consistency. A three-year starter, he got a crack at playing both tackle positions. Coming from a well-coached team, Thomas will be a Day 1 starter due to his technique and versatility on the line.

Noah Igbinoghene, Darrell Taylor tabbed Bills’ ‘ideal top picks’ by NFL.com

The two picks were cornerback Noah Igbinoghene and defensive end Darrell Taylor for the Buffalo Bills.

NFL.com‘s team of draft insiders pegged two “ideal” prospects for each team in the league this week.

The Bills don’t have a first-round pick at the 2020 NFL Draft, but in the second and third round, impact-makers could be found by the club. With no glaring needs on their roster, the two fits for Buffalo were both found on defense.

The two picks were cornerback Noah Igbinoghene and defensive end Darrell Taylor:

Round 2: No. 54 overall — Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn
Round 3: No. 86 — Darrell Taylor, edge rusher, Tennessee

The addition of Josh Norman — signed a one-year deal last month — gives the Bills an opportunity to take and develop Igbinoghene. He is big, strong and explosive, but somewhat raw with his coverage technique. Teams I’ve spoken with have some concerns about Taylor, but talent isn’t one of them. He’s twitched-up with rush potential waiting to be unlocked.

For the upcoming season, the Bills are set at cornerback and defensive end. Along with Norman, EJ Gaines joins Levi Wallace in a massive battle for the No. 2 cornerback spot across from Tre’Davious White. On the edge, Mario Addison joins Jerry Hughes and Trent Murphy there.

But at both spots, youthful additions should be welcomed. While Wallace is only a third-year pro, all the additions around him suggest the Bills aren’t sold on him. In addition, Norman and Gaines themselves have durability and consistency issues in recent years.

Addison could provide the Bills with a big boost to their pass rush, but he’s already over 30 years old, as is Hughes. Murphy’s entering the final year of his contract as well.

Players like Igbinoghene and Taylor could potentially be brought in, but not have the pressure to produce right away. Igbinoghene is a lengthy 5-foot-10 defensive back with some speed. He ran a 4.48 40-yard dash time at the recent scouting combine. Taylor tallied 19.5 sacks throughout his four years at Tennessee, notching a career-high 8.5 in his senior season.

The Athletic’s 7-round mock starts Bills with defense

The Athletic sees the Buffalo Bills offense as a product that’s close enough to a finished one in their latest seven-round mock draft.

The Athletic sees the Buffalo Bills offense as a product that’s close enough to a finished one in their latest seven-round mock draft.

NFL Draft Insider Dane Brugler did a prediction piece which included all seven rounds worth of picks at the 2020 NFL Draft. The mock draft covered all 255 selections, including the seven the Bills are currently slated to make.

In the mock, the Bills, who don’t pick until the second round, continue to fortify their defense, waiting until the fourth round to add anyone on offense. Getting things started off, the Bills add a cornerback:

54. Buffalo Bills – Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

While the Bills did add Josh Norman and EJ Gaines to their No. 2 cornerback fold, Buffalo is in a place with their roster they love being. The Bills can take the best player on their board and if this scenario unfolded, it could very well be Gladney. Norman and Gaines will compete with Levi Wallace for playing time across from Tre’Davious White in Buffalo’s defense. Gladney would instantly be tossed into that mix with the Bills too and be considered a long-term option at the position.

Gladney was a First-Team All-Conference selection, recording 31 total tackles, 14 passes defensed, and an interception last season.

Continuing, the Bills stay on defense, addressing their pass rush:
