Giants snap the curse, dominate Eagles to close out 2023 season

The New York Giants wrapped up their 2023 season with a 27-10 thumping of the Philadelphia Eagles, finally ending an ugly string of losses.

The New York Giants hosted the defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon in their 2023 regular season finale.

MetLife was rife with Eagles fans and empty seats. Philly came into the game with a chance to win the NFC East. The Giants were simply there to play the role of spoiler.

Veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard, possibly playing his last game for the Giants, represented the team as one of the game-day captains at midfield before the game.

Here is how things played out…

Giants’ Darius Slayton could trigger multiple contract incentives in Week 18

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton could trigger multiple contractual incentives in the team’s regular season finale vs. Philadelphia.

The New York Giants may be 5-11 and appear to have little to play for, but nothing could be further from the truth.

One player can cash in big simply by catching a few passes this Sunday in the Giants’ season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

Wide Darius Slayton was signed to a two-year, $12 million contract this past March, an agreement that was laden with incentive bonuses. As the 2023 season gets ready to sunset, several of those incentives are close to being achieved and could add up to a total of $2.5 million.

From Dan Duggan of The Athletic:

He’s (Slayton) is on the verge of reaching incentives in receptions and receiving yards.

Slayton will earn $100,000 if he finishes with 50-59 catches, so he’s five catches shy of that mark. He’ll also earn $100,000 if he finishes with 750-874 yards, so he’s 42 yards away from that mark. Slayton is averaging 2.8 catches and 44.3 yards per game this season.

Slayton’s contract includes an escalator, so any incentives he earns this year will increase his 2024 roster bonus by the same amount. If Slayton earns $200,000 in incentives this season, his bonus for being on the 90-man roster on the fifth day of the 2024 league year will increase from $2.4 million to $2.6 million.

Several other players, such as running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller, had incentive-laden contracts as well but did not reach the milestones to earn them.

Barkley’s bonuses were based around the Giants qualifying for the postseason and Waller’s were reliant on him being elected to the Pro Bowl. Neither happened.

Fantasy football sleepers to play in Week 18

Taking a look at some sleepers to play in Week 18.

While the majority of fantasy football leagues have concluded, there are still some leagues that partake in a Week 18 championship, and we’re still here to help those who need it.

And, even though the vast majority of fantasy managers are no longer competing, we can use these sleepers for prop betting and DFS plays.

We will be using The Huddle’s weekly PPR projections and rankings as a reference to find some potential boom games this week.

Fantasy Football: Potential bargains, must-plays from Giants-Eagles game

Here’s a look at some potential bargains for daily fantasy from the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles Week 18 game on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Giants (5-11) host the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in the 2023 regular season finale.

The Eagles, depending on the day’s outcome, will either be the NFC East champion or the 5th overall seed in the NFC Playoffs.

The Giants have been eliminated from postseason play for several weeks now.

The teams met just two weeks ago and put up 58 points (Philadelphia won, 33-25), so there is a chance this could be another high-scoring affair.

Here are three fantasy plays for you to consider.

Caveat Emptor: There is a possibility that some key players may sit on both sides, so please check the inactives on Sunday to make sure your choices are playing.

Darius Slayton frustrated, disappointed with snakebit Giants

More losing and self-inflicted wounds have New York Giants WR Darius Slayton and RB Saquon Barkley feeling frustrated and disappointed.

The 2023 regular season didn’t go as planned for the New York Giants but that’s nothing new for wide receiver Darius Slayton, who has seen his fair share of losing since being selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft.

The Giants have made the playoffs just once in Slayton’s career — a surprise 2022 appearance in which they picked up a win over the Minnesota Vikings — but that’s as much success as he’s seen.

Expectations were higher this season but the Giants came out flat, losing eight of their first 10 games before going on a mini-winning streak that somehow kept their playoff hopes alive.

Unfortunately for the Giants, those good times were short-lived and they were officially eliminated from the playoffs following a Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. They followed that up with a heartbreaking 26-25 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

After the game, Slayton couldn’t help but to express his disappointment and frustration.

“It’s definitely disappointing,” Slayton told reporters. “We had multiple chances to win the game by seven or more. If we executed a little bit better in a few spots, and Jalin’s big play doesn’t get called back, probably would’ve had a some more points there at the end that maybe we could just kneel it out. But it just didn’t go that way.”

That disappointment is something Slayton has felt entirely too often throughout his career. For every one step forward, it’s two steps back.

“We just haven’t made enough plays at the end,” he added. “If we execute a little better on a few plays, we could probably have 14 more points there at the end. So, at the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to. You’ve got to make them when it counts.”

The Giants remain plagued by the same issues that have haunted them for more than a decade: poor offensive line play, dropped passes, missed tackles, killer penalties and, above all else, injuries.

But this season more than any other, it’s been the self-inflicted wounds that have led to the most frustration.

“A lot of plays that kind of go under the rug normally tend to be the ones that come back to bite you in the end, whether that’s win or lose,” Slayton said.

“We just have to continue to focus on the little things and it starts with myself,” running back Saquon Barkley added. “A simple option route that I’m thinking about taking it to the house instead of just securing the catch, and other plays throughout the game. That’s what it is; it’s the little things. That’s what it comes down to; focusing on the details and doing the little things right, and the majority of time, that team will come out with the win.”

At the end of the day, it’s just more of the same for Slayton, Barkley, and these floundering Giants.

Stock up, down after Giants’ 26-25 loss to Rams

Whose stock is up and whose is down following the New York Giants’ Sunday afternoon loss to the Los Angeles Rams?

The New York Giants couldn’t get out of their own way in Week 17, repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

As a potential game-winning field goal sailed wide left with only seconds remaining, reality sunk in. The season was already lost but now it’s going down in the flames of frustration.

The chance to play spoiler was lost as the Los Angeles Rams hung on to win, 26-25.

Whose stock is up and whose is down after the Week 17 defeat? Let’s take a look.

Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Week 17 loss

The New York Giants fell to the Los Angeles Rams, 26-25, in Week 17 and the Giants Wire team grades reflect that performance.

The New York Giants were defeated once again, this time on New Year’s Eve by the Los Angeles Rams, 26-25.

The Giants nearly pulled off the upset but fell short twice — once on a late two-point conversion attempt and another time on a potential game-winning field goal. The Giants now fall to 5-11 and third in the NFC East.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this loss.

Giants can’t overcome self-inflicted wounds, fall to Rams, 26-25

The New York Giants couldn’t get out of their own way in Week 17, handing the Los Angeles Rams a 26-25 victory.

The New York Giants (5-10) played host to the Los Angeles Rams (8-7) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a clash between two of the NFC’s most storied franchises.

The Rams entered the game winners of five of their last six while the Giants came in losers of their last two games.

The Giants were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16 while the Rams came in as the NFC’s sixth seed.

No one knew what to expect but what they got was one of the most entertaining football games of the year — even if it was rather ugly and ended poorly for the Giants.
