The 10 best remaining quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class

You can count on the Oregon Ducks to try hard to sign one of these remaining QBs in the 2023 class.

A major domino in the college football recruiting world fell on Monday morning, with 5-star QB Nico Iamaleava Jr. announcing that he would be committing to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Iamaleava Jr. chose Tennessee over schools like the Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Miami Hurricanes.

With Nico off the board, there are still a number of highly-rated QB prospects left without a commitment announced, but as we get closer to spring games across the nation, you can expect some more dominoes will start to fall. It is always thought that getting a QB to commit to your team early on will help with the rest of the recruiting class because they can help draw other talents to your roster.

So when looking at the 2023 class as a whole, who are the top passers remaining that will likely commit to a school in the next couple of months? Let’s take a look:

Top Notre Dame recruiting target visiting SEC powerhouse this weekend

How do you feel about Notre Dame’s chances of landing it’s biggest offensive fish in 2023?

The young man hasn’t made a commitment to any college yet and doesn’t appear about to do so but that hasn’t stopped Notre Dame fans from envisioning what could come if five-star quarterback Dante Moore ends up wearing blue and gold.  Already a stellar recruiting class, a commitment from the King High School (Detroit) star would be huge in its own but would also likely boost the offensive side of the class for Notre Dame by drawing in more interested star talent.

Moore doesn’t appear near announcing a commitment very soon however and will be visiting the University of Florida this weekend.  The Gators join the list of recent visits from Moore that includes Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, and LSU in recent weeks.

Moore isn’t alone in being courted heavily by both Florida and Notre Dame as five-star defensive lineman Keon Keely, a current Fighting Irish commitment, recently visited the Gainesville campus.

Hopefully Moore has fun but not too good of a time down south this weekend.

5-star QB set to visit Florida for the first time this weekend

Five-star quarterback Dante Moore is set to visit Florida for the first time this weekend.

Florida has been recruiting a flurry of top quarterbacks during the 2023 recruiting cycle, including the likes of Arch Manning, Christopher Vizzina, Dylan Lonergan and Marcus Stokes. Another name the Gators have made headway for is five-star quarterback Dante Moore.

247Sports reported Wednesday that the Detroit native plans to visit the Swamp this weekend. Coach Billy Napier and off-the-field analyst Ryan O’Hara have made up a lot of ground for Moore since offering him on March 9. Moore is ranked the sixth overall prospect and the third-best at his position, according to the 247Sports composite.

In his junior season, 247Sports says Moore completed 73% of his passes for 3,047 yards and 40 touchdowns while leading his team to a 13-1 record and a Michigan state championship.

Since the calendar flipped to 2022, he has visited Miami, Michigan State, Michigan and LSU so far.

247Sports also reports that despite a lack of a set decision date that he would like to make one during the spring or summer following some more visits.

Huge 2023 target moves up Notre Dame visit

How huge would landing a commitment from this young man be?

Marcus Freeman is off to a hot start with his 2023 recruiting class at Notre Dame currently ranks as having the nation’s best for the cycle.  Major potential additions still remain however and one of the biggest has moved up his next visit to South Bend.

Carnell Tate is ranked as a five-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite rankings and as the No. 2 wide receiver nationally.  Tate has been a longtime target of the Irish and according to his social media, will be on campus in a matter of hours.  For what it’s worth, he made unofficial visits to South Bend twice already last fall.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Texas A&M are just a few of the nearly 40 programs that have offered him a scholarship.

Tate attended Marist High School on the south side of Chicago as a freshman in 2019, pulling in 28 receptions for 444 yards and five touchdowns.  His 2020 season as a sophomore was wiped away due to the pandemic.  He then transferred to national powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida where his stock has continued to soar.

Just how good is Tate?  He’s listed at 6-2, 185-pounds so know the comparison isn’t in terms of the same type of receiver but Michael Floyd is listed as Notre Dame’s top receiving recruit since 2000 with a composite score of .9914.  Tate checks in at .9901.

Tate is being pursued by just about every team in the nation which you’d expect.  A potential commitment from him and perhaps one day a pairing with five-star quarterback target Dante Moore can’t help but excite Notre Dame fans about the potential of things to come.

Brian Kelly was akward again – this time with huge Notre Dame target

Never a normal moment.

Perhaps Brian Kelly hasn’t changed since he arrived at LSU as much as he’s gotten comfortable in being himself.  He’s only been on campus since early December but has already faked a southern accent (horribly) and grinded on a recruit, but he isn’t done being weird, or perhaps just himself yet.

Earlier this week key Notre Dame target in the 2023 recruiting class Dante Moore was on LSU’s campus.  The five-star quarterback that the Irish feel they’re very much in on has recently stopped by a few southern powerhouse programs.

Although this one isn’t nearly as awkward as the time Kelly grinded on the young man who wound up at Alabama, it was still weird enough.  Scroll to see the second photo below.

It’s certainly nowhere near the level of the grinding but it’s still plenty awkward.  I think Bridget on Twitter made the perfect comparison.

Have a great weekend.

5-star quarterback sets plans to visit Gators in March

The Gators haven’t offered Dante Moore yet, but he will be on campus as part of the Football Hotbed tour on March 18.

The Gators are trying to bring a talented quarterback prospect in for the 2023 class, and they have a number of options. Florida’s coaches have met with Arch Manning, the No. 1 overall player in the country, as well as Birmingham, Alabama, four-star Christoper Vizzina.

But now, it seems there’s another elite option that could be a candidate. According to a report from 247Sports’ Blake Alderman, Detroit Martin Luther King product Dante Moore plans to be in Gainesville on March 18 as part of the Football Hotbed tour, along with several other talented prospects.

Moore is a five-star player and the No. 6 player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-2-inch, 195-pound player is also rated as the No. 3 quarterback in the 2023 class.

Here’s what 247Sports’ Allen Trieu said in his evaluation of Moore.

Has played well against top competition and in clutch situations in big games. Mature, polished, does not appear to rattle easily. Stands in against the rush and will deliver throws while taking hits. Does a nice job of reading coverages and does well throwing into windows against zone coverages. Throws with good touch down the field. Can fire it in there when he needs to. Has good arm strength but maybe not a big big cannon. Solid athlete who has added more mobility to his game as the years have gone on, but is not likely to be a big threat as a designed runner, but can do a little bit of that if needed.

Moore has offers from top schools around the country, including Georgia, Michigan, LSU, Michigan State and Notre Dame. He is yet to receive an offer from the Gators, but coach Billy Napier may look to extend one following the visit.

Top Notre Dame quarterback target to make big-time SEC visits

What are Notre Dame’s odds in the Dante Moore derby?

Notre Dame is certainly in hot pursuit of five-star high school quarterback Dante Moore, but as you’d probably expect the Irish are anything but alone.  As Moore remains a priority and will shape offensive recruiting in 2023 for Notre Dame regardless of his ultimate decision, he’s taking visits to other big-time programs as well.

According to On3, Moore is set to visit Florida next month along with Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UCF.

Moore is nearing 40 offers nationally as he’s one of the top prospects in the entire 2023 recruiting class, not just top quarterbacks.    If he eventually does choose Notre Dame, Moore would be the biggest quarterback recruit Notre Dame will have successfully recruited since Gunner Kiel a decade ago.

5-star QB Dante Moore visits Michigan State football

MSU coaches had a 5-star QB on campus visiting

Michigan State received a major visitor on Thursday when 5-star quarterback Dante Moore came to town, his fifth visit to East Lansing since visits opened back up in June of 2021. Moore, a native of Detroit, attending King High School, is one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2023 recruiting class.

Thursday, via Moore’s Twitter page, fans found out that the 5-star QB was on campus watching the MSU hoops team practice and visiting with the MSU coaches. Moore even got a picture with Tom Izzo!

Moore is ranked as a 5-star prospect and the No. 8 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, as well as being the No. 3 QB in the class.

It is perceived that Michigan and Notre Dame are the front runners in this recruitment at the moment but Michigan State and Ohio State are currently very, very close behind.

Brian Kelly and LSU offer key Notre Dame recruiting target

Bayou Brian is coming after one of Notre Dame’s biggest targets for the 2023 recruiting class

On the very short wish list of Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees in the 2023 recruiting cycle appear the names Dante Moore and Carnell Tate.  Moore is the top quarterback that Notre Dame appears to have a shot at while Tate is a five-star wide receiver from the famed IMG Academy in Florida.

Tate is ranked as a a top-20 player nationally by 247Sports with the crystal ball outlooks on the same site having a 50/50 split for his commitment between Notre Dame and Ohio State.

However, a university that has turned out elite wide receiver talent for years has now re-offered Tate a scholarship and it has an obvious Notre Dame connection.

LSU and Brian Kelly are the latest to off the 6-2, 185-pound receiver who has nearly 40 offers to date including from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, and plenty of others.

Based on the lack of depth at wide receiver in the years to come, landing a commitment from Tate is perhaps atop that wish list for Notre Dame this recruiting cycle. That is why new wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey wasted no time visiting IMG Academy earlier this week.
