Sixers guard Danny Green out for rest of Game 6 vs. Heat due to knee injury

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green is out for the rest of Game 6 against the Miami Heat due to a knee injury.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are facing elimination on Thursday against the Miami Heat at home in Game 6 and they need all hands on deck in order to get it done. For the Sixers to be successful on offense, they will need the floor to be spaced for the heavy lifters.

A big reason why the floor gets spaced is due to the presence of Danny Green. The 13-year veteran has been big for the Sixers with his shooting ability and his mere presence on offense makes things easier for Philadelphia on a regular basis.

However, early in Game 6, Green had Joel Embiid fall on his leg off a play and he was in a lot of serious pain. He was on the ground for a long time and he had to be carried to the locker room. The injury is serious enough to now he will not return to the game after hitting an early triple and he will also get an MRI on the injury.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers do have some serious concern about the severity of Green’s injury.

While the Sixers have some depth to replace the loss of Green for Game 6, it will be tough to replace him as the playoffs continue, if it does, for Philadelphia.

Danny Green has advice for young Sixers going into do or die Game 6

Danny Green has advice for the younger Philadelphia 76ers as they look to stave off elimination in Game 6 with the Miami Heat.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers have their backs against the wall on Thursday as they host the Miami Heat in Game 6. This one on Thursday will either be their final game or they can rally together and survive to force a Game 7 back in Miami.

The Sixers have been in this situation before. They were down 3-2 in the semifinals in both 2019 and 2021 and they were able to rally and win the Game 6.

Danny Green was on the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and lost that Game 6 to the Sixers before they won Game 7 on the Kawhi Leonard shot. Green was obviously with the Sixers in 2021 even though he wasn’t able to play in the Game 6 with the Atlanta Hawks due to injury.

“Just fighting every minute,” said Green. “Every possession matters and giving it your all. We’re in a home building this time. Last year, they were on the road so they can do it on the road, we can definitely do it in our home building and make it happen.”

Being in the league for 13 years, Green has seen a lot in the NBA. He has seen almost every scenario one can see in the playoffs and it’s why he has three rings and he has been a big contributor throughout his career. He understands what the Sixers are dealing with right now and it will be on them to be able to battle through it all.

“Take it one game at a time,” he said. “After we win at home, we got to go on the road and try to do it again, but tonight (Thursday) we have to focus on being in this being in the moment, embracing it, and getting a win.”

Player grades: Jimmy Butler leads Heat past Joel Embiid, Sixers in Game 5

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat knock off Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in a critical Game 5 in South Beach.

MIAMI — The Philadelphia 76ers headed back to South Beach on Tuesday looking to take control of this series with the Miami Heat. After two terrific games up in Philadelphia to tie the series, the Sixers could not replicate it to start Game 5 as they found themselves in an 18-point deficit in the first half.

The Sixers did chip away at the deficit and stay in the game despite how poorly they played from the jump. They cut the lead to 10 early in the third quarter, but the Heat then jumped all over the Sixers after that as they played with much more purpose and they were aggressive on their way to a 120-85 victory. Jimmy Butler led Miami with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as the Heat now have the Sixers on the brink.

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with 17 points and five rebounds, James Harden had 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, Tobias Harris had 12 points, and Tyrese Maxey had nine. Shake Milton had ??? and Danny Green also added six points on the night.

Here are the player grades following the loss:

Player grades: James Harden leads Sixers to Game 4 win over Heat at home

James Harden leads the Philadelphia 76ers past the Miami Heat in Game 4 at home to earn a 2-2 split.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to earn themselves a 2-2 split before the series shifts back to Miami for Game 5 while the Heat were looking for the huge 3-1 lead to take home with them. The Sixers had all of the momentum thanks in large part to the return of Joel Embiid who played a big role in Game 4.

The Sixers built an 11-point lead in the third quarter before the Heat battled back and made them sweat a little, but Philadelphia was able to come away with a critical 116-108 win. James Harden led the Sixers in this one with 31 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. That helped overcome a monster Jimmy Butler game as he had 40 points for Miami.

Embiid had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Tyrese Maxey added 18 points, Danny Green had 11, and Tobias Harris had 13 and four assists. Georges Niang had 10 off the bench.

Here are the player grades following the huge win:

Matisse Thybulle, Sixers discuss defensive focus on Heat star Tyler Herro

Matisse Thybulle and the Philadelphia 76ers discuss their defensive focus on Miami Heat star Tyler Herro.

CAMDEN, N.J. — As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for Game 4 of their second-round series with the Miami Heat, there are still some issues that need to be cleaned up on the defensive end.

When one looks at the box score of Philadelphia’s 99-79 win in Game 3, they will see that Tyler Herro shot just 5-for-15. One would automatically think that the Sixers did an excellent job on him, and in some ways they did, but that isn’t the whole story.

Herro had a lot of wide-open looks in Game 3 that he just missed and coach Doc Rivers mentioned it at practice on Saturday. With the team convening for shootaround on Sunday, Matisse Thybulle understands that they cannot lose Herro again.

“There’s a couple guys on their team where it’s like if you go in and that’s your assignment, you can’t lose them,” said Thybulle. “It’s not an option. So I think guys have been buying into that a little bit more and I think it’s just showing like their inability to get easy baskets now.”

While Thybulle has begun to do a solid job on Herro, it’s not just him the Sixers have to worry about. There’s also Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Max Strus, Kyle Lowry, and others they have to be concerned with.

“Everybody’s got to be locked in because Jimmy is going to cut back cut, Bam is gonna roll, Strus, you can’t lose any of those guys,” Danny Green added. “You gotta always keep your head on a swivel especially guarding Tyler Herro, you just got to be locked in at all times because they have a lot of movement, have a great system, but defensively, we got to do it collectively. We got to talk, we gotta help each other but individually, it starts there first.”

Danny Green happy to finally be able to help Sixers beat Heat in Game 3

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green was happy to finally help the Philadelphia 76ers knock off the Miami Heat in Game 3 at home.

PHILADELPHIA — Danny Green is a guy who spreads the floor for the Philadelphia 76ers on a nightly basis. He is a guy who knocks down open looks from deep and he is somebody who demands attention every single time.

To begin this second-round series with the Miami Heat, Green shot a combined 2-for-14 from deep. Those resulted in two losses and the Sixers really struggled on the offensive end.

In a 99-79 win in Game 3, Green shot a ridiculous 7-for-9 from deep and he had 21 points in order to lead Philadelphia to a much-needed win. However, he has been in this league long enough to where he understands that this one win isn’t going to change anything for him and the rest of the team.

“It felt good to be able to help my team and do my job, that’s it,” said Green. “I’m not in any way, shape, or form satisfied. We are not taking any deep breaths or exhaling. We know we have to win another game so we have to stay locked in and focused, taking it one game at a time. Hopefully, we can keep that rhythm and have another decent shooting night on Sunday.”

When Green is able to step up and knock down those open looks, it makes Philadelphia a much different team. That opens up space for both Joel Embiid and James Harden to be able to do their thing out there on offense and kick it out to the open Green to get the job done.

“The first two games, we really didn’t make any shots,” laughed Harden. “So it made it difficult offensively and then defensively, it’s tough when you’re trying to get back in transition so many times. We make shots, we get our defense set, and we see if they can score on our half-court defense as many times as we can.”

This was really Green’s first good game since the Game 6 clincher against the Toronto Raptors. To be fair, this was the first game anyone on the Sixers looked really good since that game, but Green especially.

“We forget Danny played well in Game 6 in Toronto,” said coach Doc Rivers. “There’s nothing he’s not seen or faced. He’s never going too fast because he can’t so he’s actually just a very calm force for us. He understands who he is and we understand who he is.”

Having Green is a big help for this team out on the floor. They missed him in the semifinals in 2021 against the Atlanta Hawks when he got injured in Game 3 of that series.

“We forget last year, we didn’t have Danny in that Hawks series and that hurt us,” Rivers added. “We needed that. We still got a lot of, we call youngins out there, so having that experience is good for us.”

Danny Green drains 7 three-pointers in 76ers win

Former UNC basketball standout Danny Green went off for seven three-pointers in the 76ers win over the Heat.

Friday’s Game 3 in Philadelphia was a must-win for the 76ers and while Joel Embiid’s return dominated the pre-game headlines, it was a former UNC basketball standout that got hot during the game and had a big performance.

Forward [autotag]Danny Green[/autotag] had his best game of these playoffs so far on Friday night. Green drained seven three-pointers and finished the game with 21 points in the 99-79 win for the 76ers. The win moved the series lead to 2-1, still in favor of Miami, but it was a huge win for the 76ers as the series shifts to Philadelphia.

With Green’s performance, he made a little NBA history, too:

Throughout his career, Green has been a consistent threat from the three-point line and has provided a boost for teams. That’s a big reason why he’s a multiple-time NBA Finals champion.

The 76ers are going to need Green to show up again in Game 4 if they want to even the series.

Player grades: Joel Embiid returns as Sixers beat Heat in Game 3

Joel Embiid returns as the Philadelphia 76ers knock off the Miami Heat in Game 3 to get back into the series.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers were desperate. They were down 0-2 returning home after dropping the first two games of this series with the Miami Heat and with the return of Joel Embiid, they were looking to pick up a must-win and get themselves back in the series.

It was a tough start to this one offensively as both teams really had a hard time getting into any rhythm, but the Sixers were able to eke out a lead thanks to the return of Embiid and the start by James Harden. After the Heat made it a game, Philadelphia was eventually able to come away with a 90-79 win in Game 3 and get themselves on the board.

Danny Green had 21 points and Tyrese Maxey had 21 points and six assists to lead Philadelphia, Harden had 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, Embiid had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Tobias Harris had nine points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Player grades: Tyrese Maxey, shorthanded Sixers fall to Heat in Game 2

Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers fall to the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

MIAMI — The Philadelphia 76ers needed a win in this series with the Miami Heat just to feel good about something before the series shifts to Philadelphia and a possible return of Joel Embiid. As they headed into Game 2 on Wednesday in South Florida, they had a lot on the line to get back into the series.

Philadelphia hung with the Heat in the first half again and at the beginning of the third quarter, they made a quick push to get within four, but they weren’t able to get any closer. Miami made their run and the Sixers couldn’t respond as they dropped Game 2 by a score of 119-103. The series now shifts to the Wells Fargo Center where they hope Embiid can return.

Tyrese Maxey had 34 points to lead Philadelphia, James Harden had 20 points and nine assists, and Tobias Harris had 21 points. DeAndre Jordan did have six and five rebounds in another start and Furkan Korkmaz had eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Here are the player grades following the loss:

Player grades: Shorthanded Sixers fall late to Heat in Game 1 on the road

The shorthanded version of the Philadelphia 76ers fell late to the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on the road.

MIAMI — The Philadelphia 76ers knew this series was not going to be easy. To go up against the No. 1 seed in the East without your best player is a tall task for any team. Without Joel Embiid the Sixers got a little funky with their lineups and they gave the Miami Heat a bit of a battle all night long in Game 1.

Despite falling behind by 14 points early, Philadelphia battled back and they took a 51-50 halftime lead in Miami. Every time it looked like the Heat would then pull away in the second half, the Sixers would answer back and make it a game. Alas, the Heat did eventually pull away and walked away with a 106-92 victory, but the Sixers can feel good about their effort heading into Game 2. They had a lot of open looks, but they couldn’t convert.

Tobias Harris led the Sixers with 27 points and six rebounds, James Harden had 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, and Tyrese Maxey added 19 points. Paul Reed gave four points and nine rebounds off the bench.
