Colts reach injury settlement with DE Damontre Moore

Colts reached an injury settlement with DE Damontre Moore.

The Indianapolis Colts reached an injury settlement with veteran defensive end Damontre Moore on Wednesday, according to the league’s transaction wire.

Moore was placed on the injured reserve list on Aug. 17 following the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. This move helped the team get the roster down to the 85-player limit. With the settlement, Moore will become a free agent and will no longer be on the Colts’ injured reserve list.

The veteran was a third-round pick with the New York Giants in 2013, spending three seasons in the Meadowlands.

He’s spent time with the Giants (2013–2015), Miami Dolphins (2015), Oakland Raiders (2016), Seattle Seahawks (2016), Dallas Cowboys (2017), Oakland Raiders (2018), San Diego Fleet (2019) and San Francisco 49ers (2019).

In 66 career games (no starts), Moore has 11.0 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 36 quarterback hits.

Colts make initial cuts, trim roster to 85 players

The Colts have made initial roster cuts, bringing the roster down to 85 players.

The Indianapolis Colts made several moves on Tuesday to get the roster down to 85 players as per league rules.

The team announced a few different moves. First, they waived tight end Graham Adomitis and running back Darius Anderson. Then, they placed defensive end Damontre Moore on the injured reserve list and waived-injured wide receiver Quartney Davis and cornerback Nick Nelson.

If Davis and Nelson clear waivers, they will revert back to the team’s injured reserve list.

The league is trimming down rosters a bit differently in 2021. Tuesday’s deadline brings the roster down to 85 players. Then, the Tuesday following the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, another five players will be cut, bringing the roster down to 80 players. The Tuesday following the final preseason game, the roster will be trimmed down to 53 players.

Colts sign DE Damontre Moore

Colts sign veteran DE Damontre Moore.

The Indianapolis Colts signed defensive end Damontre Moore, the team announced Wednesday.

Moore, 28, was one of the three players to work out for the Colts on Wednesday.

The Colts placed defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday so it is likely they are seeing what they can get out of a veteran for depth until Muhammad returns from the reserve list.

Colts host 3 players for workouts

Colts worked out 3 players on Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Colts hosted three players for a workout on Wednesday, per the league’s transaction wire.

The three players included linebacker Davin Bellamy and defensive ends Nick Coe and Damontre Moore.

Bellamy has bounced around on multiple practice squads since entering the league in 2018. Given his size (6’5, 259), it’s possible the Colts could be working Bellamy out as a defensive end.

Coe, 23, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and has spent some time on the Patriots and Dolphins offseason rosters.

Moore, 28, has bounced around the league since being drafted as a third-round pick in 2013 with the New York Giants (2013–2015), Miami Dolphins (2015), Oakland Raiders (2016), Seattle Seahawks (2016), Dallas Cowboys (2017), Oakland Raiders (2018), San Diego Fleet (2019) and San Francisco 49ers (2019).

Even with COVID-19 protocols still in place, the Colts are likely to continue kicking the tires on players throughout training and the preseason.

Seahawks activated RB Rashaad Penny, he’ll make season debut Sunday

The Seattle Seahawks activated Rashaad Penny from the PUP list on Saturday and the running back will make his season debut in Washington.

The Seattle Seahawks have waited just over a year for his services, but running back Rashaad Penny has finally been activated to the 53-man roster.

Penny has spent all of 2020 on the Physically Unable to Perform list recovering from his torn ACL. He will make his season debut in Washington this Sunday.

“He looks terrific,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday. “He’s looking fast, he’s looking explosive, moving really well, running routes really well. I think he looks as good as you could expect him to. I hadn’t seen him for a while. He’s been working when he came out, started last week, doing different things.

“This week, I think he’s getting close to being ready to go.”

Now that he’s been officially activated, Penny should see some snaps on Sunday.

The Seahawks also activated defensive end Damontre Moore on Saturday. To make room for both, running back Travis Homer (knee) and guard/tackle Jamarco Jones (groin) were placed on injured reserve.

Seahawks DE Damontre Moore suspended 6 games for PED violation

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Damontre Moore has been suspended six games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Just one day after the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant 37-27 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, the team received some bad news from the NFL regarding defensive end Damontre Moore.

Moore has been suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Moore recorded a QB hit and a tackle for loss against the 49ers. He also performed well in the Oct. 11 matchup against the Vikings, notching a sack and a forced fumble.

This marks Moore’s second suspension since arriving in the NFL, having been suspended for two games in 2017 during his time with the Cowboys. The incident triggering the suspension occurred during his first stint with the Seahawks, in which he was arrested for DUI.

As a result of his latest suspension, Moore will not be eligible to return to the active roster until Mon., Dec. 14

Pete Carroll hoping for more rotation from Seahawks defensive line

Coach Pete Carroll is hoping for more rotation from the Seattle Seahawks defensive line, giving more players more snaps throughout 2020.

The Seattle Seahawks’ defensive line has been a work in progress in 2020 with a number of new faces coach Pete Carroll had hoped to plug in and play to help with the rotation.

Seattle selected defensive end Darrell Taylor in the second round of this year’s draft and Alton Robinson in the fifth, but both players were unavailable last Sunday. Taylor started the regular season on the Non-Football Injury list and Robinson was inactive.

Seattle also brought back a couple of former Seahawks to help with the rotation as well, Benson Mayowa and Bruce Irvin. Both had more snaps than Carroll would like Week 1, however, and the plan is to spread things out a bit more.

“We want our rotations better than that, more evenly matched if we can,” Carroll said Wednesday. “Sometimes you can, sometimes we can’t. Bruce is double-dipping because he’s playing the outside ‘backer spot, he’s really uniquely qualified to do that. He’s getting a lot of plays there, too. We just got to figure it out as we go.”

The Seahawks did recently sign defensive end Damontre Moore – another former Seattle player – who could join those Carroll plans to utilize in the future.

Seahawks DE Darrell Taylor may start year on Non-Football Injury list

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor may start the year on Non-Football Injury list as he continued to recover from leg surgery.

The Seattle Seahawks may be without one of their rookie draft picks for the first part of the regular season. Defensive end Darrell Taylor, who Seattle selected in the second round at No. 48 overall, may start the year on the Non-Football Injury List after all.

“We want to be patient with this because we want to get him back fully,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters Thursday after the Seahawks’ final practice of training camp. “NFI at the start of the year? That’s a real possibility. He’s not ready to go yet, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Taylor was placed on the NFI at the start of camp and has remained on the list all summer. He’s now spent the entire offseason trying to recover from the leg surgery he underwent to repair an injury he sustained last year.

Seattle did sign defensive end Damontre Moore on Thursday, who could help with the rotation if Taylor isn’t available for the first couple of months of the season.

Seahawks expect defensive end Damontre Moore to help with rotation

The Seattle Seahawks rarely make a move without having a calculated plan for the future. In this case, the Seahawks signed defensive end Damontre Moore on Thursday just in time for the start of the regular season.

“He really has a chance to help us right now,” Coach Pete Carroll said Thursday after practice. “Without Darrell Taylor for a little bit longer, we needed another guy in the rotation, and Damontre has always impressed me with his effort and his chase of the football. He’s got a great motor, and I’ve always liked that about him.”

Taylor underwent surgery this offseason to repair the leg he injured last year and likely won’t be ready to start the season. With Moore having played for Seattle in 2016, Carroll is familiar with what he brings to the table.

“He’s been up and down to his career and been a lot of places and all,” Carroll explained. “He’s very serious right now, really settled down – all of the maturity process that you would hope to see in a guy who was wild and crazy and all that. He’s really focused right now. He’s a dad and taking care of his little one and his family and all that, it seems to have really given him direction and focus that he has admittedly talked about already.

“So I’m really pleased to get him because he plays so freaking hard – he really gives it up effort-wise.”

Moore will have to survive the 53-man roster cuts on Saturday if he is to see any rotation after all.

Seahawks sign defensive end Damontre Moore, waive 2 from roster

The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Damontre Moore and waived wide receiver Seth Dawkins and linebacker Pita

The signing of wide receiver Josh Gordon wasn’t the only move the Seattle Seahawks made on Thursday. Seattle also signed defensive end Damontre Moore.

Moore played four games for Seattle in 2016, recording seven tackles and 0.5 sacks. He landed on injured reserve on December 20 due to a foot injury and signed with the Cowboys in free agency. The Seahawks’ signing of Moore was listed on Thursday’s official NFL transaction report.

Seattle released wide receiver Seth Dawkins and linebacker Pita Taumoepenu to make room for Moore and Gordon on the active roster.

ESPN’s Field Yates also reported that the Seahawks brought in center Justin Britt for a tryout on Wednesday.

Britt was one of the most notable offensive linemen for the Seahawks over the past half-decade, constantly rotating across the line before eventually settling in at center. Throughout the nadir of Seattle’s offensive line struggles from 2015 to 2017, Britt was the most consistent presence and did not display as many issues as countless others along the line.

Seattle has to trim its squad down to 53 players by Saturday’s deadline.
