UFC books Damon Jackson vs. Billy Quarantillo for August event

Two featherweight finishers, Damon Jackson and Billy Quarantillo, will throw down at a UFC event expected for Nashville.

Two featherweight finishers will collide Aug. 5.

At a UFC Fight Night event expected to take place Aug. 5, [autotag]Damon Jackson[/autotag] (22-5-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) and [autotag]Billy Quarantillo[/autotag] (17-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will throw down.

The event is expected to take place in Nashville, Tenn., though the promotion has not yet officially announced it.

Quarantillo first announced the bout on his OnlyFans page. An additional person with knowledge of the booking recently confirmed it to MMA Junkie but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Jackson, 34, had a four-fight winning streak snapped in January when he was knocked out by Dan Ige. Since he began his second UFC stint in September 2020, Jackson is 5-2.

  • Tatiana Suarez vs. Virna Jandiroba
  • Asu Almabaev vs. Ode Osbourne
  • Jake Hadley vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
  • Said Nurmagomedov vs. Kyler Phillips

UFC Fight Night 217 video: Dan Ige folds Damon Jackson with KO to snap three-fight skid

Dan Ige snapped his three-fight losing skid in highlight-reel fashion when he put Damon Jackson down at UFC Fight Night 217.

[autotag]Dan Ige[/autotag] snapped his three-fight losing skid in highlight-reel fashion Saturday when he put [autotag]Damon Jackson[/autotag] down in the UFC Fight Night 217 co-main event.

Ige (16-6 MMA, 8-5 UFC) got back on the winning track when a big left hand landed on the chin of Jackson (22-5-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) that led to a walk-off finish at the 4:13 mark of Round 2 (via Twitter):

The featherweight bout was the UFC Fight Night 217 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

It was clear Ige had a big power advantage from the start of the fight. He landed consistently through the first round, then opened a cut on Jackson’s head in the second round.

Finally, Ige lowered the boom and landed a huge shot that sent Jackson flinging back. Ige did not need to follow up and got his first victory since March 2021 after losses to Movsar Evloev, Josh Emmett and Chan Sung Jung.

“It feels really good, man,” Ige said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “It’s been almost two years since I got a win. I’ve dedicated my life to this sport and my identity has been built around winning. I went through depression, anxiety (during my skid).”

UFC Fight Night 217: Dan Ige vs. Damon Jackson odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 217 odds and lines between Dan Ige and Damon Jackson, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a featherweight bout on the main card, Dan Ige and Damon Jackson meet Saturday at UFC Fight Night 217 — also known as UFC Vegas 67 — at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC Fight Night 217: Ige vs. Jackson odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims set to begin at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Ige is skidding lately, dropping his past 3 bouts by unanimous decision. That includes a loss to Movsar Evloev in early June in his most recent outing. Ige’s last victory came in March 2021 in a 1st-round knockout of Gavin Tucker.

Not only does Ige have 3 straight fights resulting in a UD loss, but he has gone the distance in 7 of his previous 8 bouts.

Jackson is on a 4-fight win streak, including a first-round KO/TKO of Pat Sabatini last time out in mid-Sept. He has notched finishes in 4 of his 6 fights so far at the UFC level, winning once and losing once via KO/TKO, while going 2-for-2 with submission victories.

The submission has been Jackson’s calling card, posting a 15-1 record via submission in his 27 career professional bouts. His specialty is the rear-naked choke, while also using the arm triangle to his advantage.

UFC Fight Night 217: Ige vs. Jackson picks and predictions

Records: Ige (15-6-0) | Jackson (22-4-1)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

It’s difficult to play against the underdog JACKSON (+110), who is the short ‘dog despite the fact Ige enters on a 3-fight losing skid.

Jackson heads into this fight with a tremendous advantage on the ground, and he holds a 2.62-to-1.23 takedown average advantage and a 2.06-to-0.35 submission average advantage. If Jackson can get this fight to the ground, it might not end well for Ige.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE (+120) is worth a roll of the dice here, as Jackson has the ability to end it early. If he wins, it will end with a stoppage. If Ige wins, it will go the distance.

As far as the method of victory, JACKSON BY SUBMISSION (+650) is a great option for a chance to multiply your initial wager by 6 1/2. The books are feeling Ige by points, as that is the unofficial favorite for method. Avoid that, as Ige just has no momentum heading into this fight.

If you really like to get crazy, play JACKSON TO WIN IN ROUND 1 (+900), JACKSON TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+1200) and JACKSON TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+2000). Obviously, if Jackson loses, or wins by points, you will lose. However, if Jackson gets the win via stoppage at any point, you’ll lose 2 of the ends above, but you’ll be well ahead, too.

The UFC kicks off its 2023 with a home game, and a short-notice light heavyweight fight tops the lineup.

UFC Fight Night 217 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, [autotag]Nassourdine Imavov[/autotag] (12-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) takes on [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] (25-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC). The fight is taking place at 205 pounds instead of middleweight after Strickland stepped in for Kelvin Gastelum on just five days’ notice. Strickland lost to Jared Cannonier in the UFC’s final event of 2022 a month ago.

Imavov is just a slight favorite at -130 at Tipico Sportsbook; the comeback on Strickland is +110. But Our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers have Imavov with a near-unanimous picks lead at 10-1.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Dan Ige[/autotag] (15-6 MMA, 7-5 UFC) meets [autotag]Damon Jackson[/autotag] (22-4-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) at featherweight. Ige is a slight -125 favorite at the betting window, and it’s close with our pickers, too. They’ve got Ige with the narrowest possible lead at 6-5.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Punahele Soriano[/autotag] (9-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is just a -150 favorite at middleweight against [autotag]Roman Kopylov[/autotag] (9-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC), but he’s one of our two unanimous picks at 11-0.

[autotag]Raquel Pennington[/autotag] (14-9 MMA, 11-5 UFC) takes on [autotag]Ketlen Vieira[/autotag] (13-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in a key women’s bantamweight bout. Vieira is a slight favorite at -125, but she’s got a decent 7-4 lead from our pickers.

And to open the main card, bantamweight [autotag]Umar Nurmagomedov[/autotag] (15-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is the biggest favorite on the entire event at nearly 10-1 against [autotag]Raoni Barcelos[/autotag] (17-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC). Not surprisingly, Nurmagomedov is our other unanimous pick at 11-0.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Imavov (51 percent), Ige (62 percent), Soriano (68 percent), Vieira (67 percent) and Nurmagomedov (88 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

Damon Jackson views Dan Ige as ‘a big opportunity’ at UFC Fight Night 217

Damon Jackson is thrilled about the chance to enter the UFC featherweight rankings if he can beat Dan Ige at UFC Fight Night 217.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Damon Jackson[/autotag] took matters into his own hands when booking his next fight.

Instead of talking trash or making public callouts, Jackson (22-4-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) messaged a few fighters – including [autotag]Dan Ige[/autotag], who agreed to fight him. As a result, Jackson got booked against Ige (15-6 MMA, 7-5 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 217 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

Not only did Jackson get what he want, he will get a chance to enter the UFC featherweight rankings.

“I’m getting the opportunity to fight someone ranked,” Jackson told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at UFC Fight Night 217 media day. “You set out this goal, and you want to be the UFC champion, and you never know what it actually takes to get there. So to have a straight vision on where I want to be and how to get there is pretty awesome. This is a big opportunity for me, and I’m not taking it lightly. This whole training camp has been harder than ever and more mentally and physically demanding than ever, and I’m here. It’s fight week.”

[lawrence-related id=2609015,2608924,2608917]

Jackson is 5-1 since re-joining the UFC roster in 2020. He earned his first UFC bonus when he needed just over a minute to finish Pat Sabatini this past September, and “Action Jackson” anticipates another bonus when fighting “50K” Ige.

“He’s got the nickname for a reason,” Jackson said of Ige. “He comes out swinging, we both come forward, it’s gonna be a fight for sure.”

Before fight night arrives, though, the 10 athletes from the main card spoke to reporters Wednesday at media day, and MMA Junkie was in attendance.
