5-star WR Dallas Wilson signs with Florida football after flip from Oregon

Highly touted 5-star WR Dallas Wilson had signed with the Gators following a late flip from Oregon.

Highly touted five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson has signed with the Florida Gators, the program announced on Sunday Night.

This move comes shortly after Wilson requested out of his Financial Aid Agreement signing papers with the Oregon Ducks last week and after his visit to Gainesville this past weekend, the receiver decided that he wanted to be a part of the Florida football program.

Wilson, a 6-foot-3-inch talent from Tampa was one of the top recruits in the nation, known for his explosive speed and impressive ball-catching skills. His decision to join the Gators is seen as a major win for Florida head coach Billy Napier and his coaching staff.

With the departures of senior receivers Elijhah Badger and Chimere Dike, Florida was looking to add some more depth to the wide receiver room. Wilson’s arrival promises to provide ample depth and talent to this critical group of pass-catchers for quarterback DJ Lagway.

As Wilson prepares to start the next chapter of his collegiate career, Gator Nation is hopeful that his impact will lead to a more dynamic and powerful offense, ready to compete among the best in the SEC.

Recruiting Summary

Wilson, a 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound wide receiver out of Tampa Bay Tech High School in Tampa, had 41 receptions for 677 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games during his senior season this past year.Wilson committed to Oregon on Dec. 4, but decommitted just two weeks later on Dec. 19. Shortly thereafter, he signed with Florida on Dec. 22.

247Sports ranks Wilson as the No. 26 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class and the No. 4 ranked wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class.

5-star WR Dallas Wilson asks out of NLI with Oregon, plans to sign with Florida

The Dallas Wilson recruiting saga took another turn this week, and it looks like the five-star receiver will end up with Florida instead of Oregon.

Things didn’t come together on early signing day between five-star receiver [autotag]Dallas Wilson[/autotag] and the Florida Gators, but the Oregon commit is looking for a release from his financial aid agreement to sign with the Orange and Blue after all.

Wilson’s management group told On3 that the Tampa Bay Tech prospect asked to be released from his financial affidavit on Tuesday, giving Oregon until Thursday to decide. Once the Ducks comply with Wilson’s request, he’ll be free to sign wherever he pleases, and that’s with Florida.

Should all those dominoes fall into place, Wilson will be on campus in Gainesville early alongside DJ Lagway, Eugene Wilson III and Vernell Brown III to lead Florida’s passing game in 2025. Florida also returns several other receivers but has question marks behind Eugene Wilson with Elijhah Badger and Chimere Dike out of eligibility.

Dallas Wilson provides a classic deep-threat, big-bodied receiver that Florida has been looking for since Joshua Moore flipped his commitment to Miami earlier in the cycle. It also tames any worries from fans after Florida remained quiet through the first few weeks of the winter transfer period.

The recruiting saga is reminiscent of what happened with Jaden Rashada, who ultimately backed out of his national letter of intent with Florida well after the early signing period. Of course, it’s much nicer to be on the other end of that kind of decision.

Recruiting Summary

Wilson is a five-star recruit, according to both major composite rankings from 247Sports and On3. The 247Sports composite has him at No. 20 overall and No. 4 among receivers in the class of 2025, while the On3 industry ranking ranks him slightly higher at Nos. 19 and 2, respectively.

“Self-assertive wide receiver with the size, hands and speed to emerge as a true impact player for a College Football Playoff contender,” 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote in an August report. “Launches out of his stance and attacks cushion with conviction before breaking off defensive backs with snappy cuts. Firm 10-inch hands and a 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame give him the advantage more times than not at the catch point and has put a few acrobatic grabs on the highlight reel over the years. …

“Overall, should be viewed as one of the top pass catchers in the 2025 cycle given his big-play capabilities and rare physical features. Must buy into the process at the college of his choice and continue to keep evolving as a player, but has NFL potential.”

Adding Wilson moves Florida into the top 10 of 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings, passing Tennessee by a few points. Both teams could add more players on the February signing date, but Florida has a good chance of finishing in the top 10 with Wilson in the fold.

What 5-star WR Dallas Wilson’s flip means for Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks saw 5-star WR Dallas Wilson flip his commitment, so here’s how that fallout could impact the program.

Oregon Duck fans woke up to the unfortunate news on Thursday morning that one of the best players in their 2025 signing class, 5-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, was requesting to be released from his papers and leave the school.

Wilson, who is rated as the No. 20 overall player and No. 3 WR in the 2025 class, signed with Oregon earlier this month on National Signing Day after being the longest-tenured commit in Oregon’s class, giving his verbal back in January of 2023.

There were bumps along the road, with rumors swirling that Wilson would flip to the Florida Gators in the late hours before signing day began. In the end, Wilson did end up pulling the rip-cord, and will likely end up with the Gators now.

So what does this mean for the Ducks? That’s the only question that matters now. Let’s dive in.

Where the 2025 Recruiting Class Stands

Before the news broke about Wilson, Oregon had the No. 2 ranked recruiting class in the 2025 cycle, sitting behind only the Texas Longhorns. With the loss of the 5-star, the Ducks saw their ranking slide down to No. 5 in the nation.

Still pretty great, considering.

There aren’t many teams in the nation that could withstand the loss of the No. 3 WR in the class and still be set up for success, but Oregon was uniquely positioned to do so. The Ducks signed 5-star WR Dakorien Moore in this cycle, the No. 1 WR in the nation and No. 4 overall player. They also have 4-star WR Cooper Perry signed in this class as well.

Oregon’s Current WR Outlook

In most cases, the loss of a true freshman might not have a significant impact on the depth chart, but when you’re talking about a player as talented as Wilson, it’s something to consider. There’s no telling how big of a role he was going to have in 2025, but it will be interesting to see how the Ducks treat the WR position now this offseason.

With the loss of Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, there was already a good chance that Oregon would try to find a receiver in the transfer portal, mainly dependent on the future of Evan Stewart, who is considering a return to Eugene for one more season. Does the loss of Wilson further increase the need to add a WR in the portal? It’s tough to say. If the Ducks were looking to add a receiver before getting this news, then nothing changes. If they were on the fence about it, then this might have pushed them into the “take” category.

Regardless, the Ducks have a lot of talent at the WR position, both young and old, and should be able to withstand this blow with ease in 2025.

Oregon’s Future WR Outlook

The biggest impact that Wilson’s departure will have is on the future of the WR room in Eugene, and once again, it’s hard to argue against the fact that the Ducks are uniquely positioned to withstand this. Under wide receivers coach Junior Adams, Oregon has recruited the WR position as well as anyone in the nation, and they have stocked the coffers for years to come out wide.

Not only do they have Dakorien Moore and Cooper Perry in this class, plus Jeremiah McClellan, Ryan Pellum, and Dillon Grisham from 2024 — all players ranked in the top 200 nationally — but fans often forget about the commitment of 5-star WR Gatlin Bair last year. The No. 27 player in the 2024 class is currently on an LDS mission and is set to join the program a year from now. Bair is considered one of the fastest players in the nation, holding a 10.15-second time in the 100 meters.

If you had the option of keeping Wilson or not, obviously you would want him on your team. However, the Ducks have recruited at WR as well, if not better than any team in the nation over the past few years, and they continually hit the transfer portal as well. By no means is this a death blow to the program.

5-star WR Dallas Wilson requests release from Oregon, plans to sign with Florida

Oregon Ducks 5-star WR Dallas Wilson has officially asked to be released from his signing, and is expect to join the Florida Gators.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks got dealt some rare unfortunate recruiting news this week, with one of their top players in the 2025 recruiting class asking to be released from his papers with the University just a couple of weeks after signing them.

According to multiple reports, 5-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson has officially requested to be released from his financial aid agreements that he signed to join the Ducks earlier this month. Should he be granted that release, which is expected, he plans to sign with the Florida Gators, his hometown school.

Wilson was the third highest-rated player of Oregon’s 2025 class, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 20 overall player in the nation and the No. 3 WR.

There were rumors of Wilson’s potential flip to Florida early on the morning of signing day, but he ultimately decided to put pen to paper with the Ducks, which many thought signaled the end of his recruitment, which was the longest of any in this class after he committed to Oregon back in January of 2023.

While this is a major blow for the Ducks, it’s not a death blow, by any means. Oregon still has a commitment from the No. 1 WR in the 2025 class, Dakorien Moore, and one of the top overall classes in the nation, even without Wilson. Where they go at the WR position after this will be interesting to see, but Lanning and his staff have known about this development for a bit now and were not caught off guard by the news on Wednesday.

Strong relationship with Lanning helped keep 5-star WR Dallas Wilson in Oregon

When it comes to recruiting, such as in the case of Dallas Wilson, relationships and trust still can go a long way.

When it comes to recruiting, you never know the minor details that are going to help lead to a commitment.

For 5-star CB Na’eem Offord, it was a handful of games of Connect Four — which Dan Lanning admits that he lost — that ended up contributing to the blue-chip defender’s flip to the Ducks.

For 5-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, it was a dream that he had early in his recruitment.

“Our longest commit to this class, he had a dream about getting an opportunity to play at Oregon,” Lanning said of Wilson on Wednesday night.

Wilson, one of the top players in the nation, obviously had multiple offers throughout his recruitment, and until the pen hit the paper on Wednesday, schools were in his ear about flipping to their school.

But when push came to shove, Oregon was the place he wanted to be.

“I’m just really proud of Dallas for knowing what he wanted,” Lanning said. “And you know, when you’re a talented player, there’s going to be a lot of people that want you, and Dallas is an extremely talented player, but you know, the relationship mattered. I think his dream mattered to him, what he wanted to be able to accomplish at a place he’s dreamed about for a long time, and to see his journey to get here through some of the adversity he’s faced is really, really impressive.”

According to 247Sports, Wilson is the No. 3 wideout in this 2025 class, but Oregon was lucky enough to lock down the No. 1 receiver as well in Dakorian Moore. It’s a duo that could be one of the best in Oregon history if everything goes according to plan. With the transfer portal and NIL situations, players rarely stay put for an entire four years, but as with the initial recruitment, relationships can go a long way. It led Wilson to stick with the Ducks instead of flipping elsewhere.

“There were strong relationships there,” Lanning said. “I think, you know, it’s a matter of him being able to sit down and think through, you know, all the details, but this guy’s held true and for a long time, really proud of him for being able to do that.”

Florida getting 5-star WR committed to Oregon on official visit

After an eventful visit to Florida last for the LSU game, five-star wide receiver commit Dallas Wilson, an Oregon commit, is taking an official visit to The Swamp.

Florida hosted several high-profile recruiting targets last weekend for the LSU game, and an upset victory has the Gators trending up for five-star wide receiver [autotag]Dallas Wilson[/autotag].

The Oregon Ducks earned a commitment from Wilson in January 2023, but the Gators and Miami Hurricanes have continued pushing for him. Florida had an official visit lined up with him over the summer, but he changed that trip to Miami. Now the Gators are back in the driver’s seat with the best chance to flip Wilson, according to 247Sports.

Wilson plans to return to the Swamp this weekend for the Ole Miss game on an official visit. Another win or at least a strong performance against the ninth-ranked Rebels could lead him to a flip.

“(The LSU game) was electric,” Wilson said. “I got here a little late, so it was 7-0, Florida was up. Then they pulled out the win. It was back-to-back touchdowns, and it was just crazy out there. Oh my God. Touchdown after touchdown, fireworks going off every second. The crowd is outstandingly loud. It was the difference.”

Of course, DJ Lagway’s performance stood out the most to Wilson, particularly his connection with Elijhah Badger, who reeled in six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. Wilson’s 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame is large enough to play that “X” receiver position, and Florida desperately needs to find a replacement for Badger.

“Coach Napier and Billy G(onzalez) were telling me about Badger,” he said. “They were like, ‘that’s what they need at the X position.’ I can come in, and be that same guy. (Napier) compared me to Julio Jones, Amari Cooper and other great receivers he’s coached across the years.”

Recruiting Summary

Wilson is a four-star recruit everywhere but 247Sports, where he was granted that fifth star. However, both the 247Sports composite and On3 industry ranking, which consider all four major recruiting services, list him as a five-star talent.

The 247Sports composite has him at No. 19 overall and No. 3 among wide receivers in the class of 2025. The On3 industry ranking is slightly more bullish on him at Nos. 19 and 2, respectively.

“Self-assertive wide receiver with the size, hands and speed to emerge as a true impact player for a College Football Playoff contender,” said 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins in an August report. “Launches out of his stance and attacks cushion with conviction before breaking off defensive backs with snappy cuts. Firm 10-inch hands and a 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame give him the advantage more times than not at the catch point and has put a few acrobatic grabs on the highlight reel over the years.”

Wilson could fill the deep, vertical threat hole left in Florida’s 2025 recruiting class after Joshua Moore flipped to Miami, but he has some run-and-catch ability, too.

There are no crystal ball predictions submitted for Wilson due to his long-standing commitment with Oregon, and Florida does not appear on the On3 recruiting prediction machine yet. Expect the situation to change significantly following the official visit.

Oregon lands among top schools for 4-star WR Donovan Olugbode

The Ducks landed among the top schools for 4-star WR Donovan Olugbode in the class of 2025.

We’re still in the early stages of the 2025 recruiting cycle, but the Oregon Ducks are picking up some steam. Junior Adams, the Ducks’ wide receiver’s coach has been especially effective so far, securing three commitments, and landing in the top five of Donovan Olugbode, a 4-star receiver.

Originally from Aurora, Illinois, Olugbode transferred to IMG Academy — a blue chip factory — as a sophomore. In his two seasons at IMG, Olugbode has earned himself a high volume of targets and receptions, especially for someone in such a loaded receiving corps.

2025 recruits still have a full season to play before choosing schools, but as of now, Olugbode is ranked as the No. 27 wide receiver by 247Sports, and On3Sports has him at No. 23. Alongside Oregon in his top-five, Olugbode listed Washington and USC, two rivals the Ducks won’t want to lose a recruiting battle with.

On tape, Olugbode’s hands stand out the most. No matter the degree of difficulty, Olugbode seems to haul it in if his quarterback gives him a chance, and with his length and wingspan, his catch radius is massive. His ability to track the ball, especially on deep throws is impressive as well. Some scouts have concerns about Olugbode’s speed, but in high school, it hasn’t been a problem.

In the class of 2025, Oregon already has three wide receiver commits: Dallas Wilson, Isaiah Mozee, and Cooper Perry, and they’ll be joining an already crowded room. Wilson (No. 6) and Mozee (No. 22) are rated higher than Olugbode by 247Sports, but On3Sports has him above Mozee.

If Olugbode chooses the Ducks, it will be difficult for him, along with the rest of Oregon’s 2025 WR recruits, to break into the starting lineup. But in the transfer portal era, overloading at wide receiver may be a good strategy, because it ensures heavy competition and that the best will rise to the top.

Five-star Oregon WR commit sets official visit with Florida

The Gators are looking to flip this highly-heralded 2025 recruit from the Ducks.

Florida football is back on the recruiting trail after a short lull in the action, and while the Gators are getting a plethora of prep prospects on campus this spring, Billy Napier and Co. are also filling out their summer official visit schedule as well.

One of the big names that recently scheduled a trip to Gainesville this summer is five-star wide receiver [autotag]Dallas Wilson[/autotag] out of Tampa (Florida) Tampa Bay Tech in the 2025 cycle. The 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound pass-catcher is currently committed to the Oregon Ducks as of Jan. 17, 2023, but appears to still be testing the waters for better opportunities.

“I’ve been opening my eyes up to other schools more and more and seeing what’s going on with them just to get a feel for it,” Wilson said to InsideTheU after a recent visit there this month. I don’t know how it’s going to end up in the end. I still like Oregon, but I’m considering other schools–Miami one of them.”

His visit date is set for the weekend of June 14-16. He also has visits planned to Miami the weekend of June 7-9 and with Oregon the weekend of June 21-23.

As far as other schools still in the hunt for his talents, he offered up several suggestions earlier this month.

“Miami, shoutout to them boys,” Wilson told 247Sports. “Florida State. The Gator boys. Tennessee. We’ve got Clemson coming hard. Auburn. There’s a couple more.”

The high school junior’s recruitment has been spearheaded by wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales and assistant wide receiver David Doeker, along with an assist to Napier.

“I talk to them a lot through the phone, and you can feel the energy from them,” he told 247Sports. “In person though, it’s way more better. They are the type of people to being the energy out you. They make you have a good feeling when you’re talking to them. They all make you feel good.”

Recruiting summary

Wilson is ranked No. 22 overall and No. 5 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 25 and 5, respectively.

Oregon Ducks’ 5-star WR commit plans to attend Gators-Vols game

The list of Week 3 recruiting visitors continues to grow as this five-star prospect sets his sight on Sept. 16.

The 2023 edition of the Florida-Tennessee college football rivalry represents the Southeastern Conference schedule opener for both schools on Sept. 16. It also serves as a major moment in the Gators’ recruiting efforts as a plethora of prep prospects have planned to converge on the Swamp that Saturday.

One of the bigger names planning on a mid-September stop in Gainesville is five-star wide receiver [autotag]Dallas Wilson[/autotag] out of Tampa (Florida) Bay Tech in the 2025 recruiting cycle, who is currently committed to the Oregon Ducks. According to Swamp247, the 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound pass-catcher will be at the game alongside many others in his class.

Billy Napier and Co. were late to the game in Wilson’s recruitment, having waited until Aug. 1 to initiate contact. However, the top-shelf receiver did make a visit for the spring scrimmage in April but did not spend any time face-to-face with the Gators’ staff.

The gameday trip will be a great opportunity for Napier and his coaches to establish a much stronger connection with the high school junior.

“Florida, when they offered me, it was a good feeling,” Wilson told Swamp247. “I want to go back up there and see it and connect with the coaches. I haven’t talked to them in person yet. I didn’t meet with them at the spring game, so I want to get out there and meet with them. I want to check them out, but I will probably because they don’t really know me. I want to go visit and everything. I was going to wait for an offer from them.”

The blue-chip athlete was also in Orlando last weekend for the Florida State Seminoles vs. LSU Tigers game. As it appears, he is not completely locked in the Ducks just yet.

Wilson is rated at five stars and ranked No. 24 overall and No. 5 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at four stars and ranked at Nos. 35 and 7, respectively.

Ducks off to blazing start in 2025, among top-ranked schools in national rankings

In the past few days, Oregon has added a pair of elite players in the 2025 class. They now rank as one of the best teams in the cycle.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are working hard to land one of the top-rated recruiting classes in the 2024 class and one of the best blue-chip ratios in the Pac-12 Conference. They have a top 15 class at the moment.

That hasn’t stopped them from getting off to a blazing hot start on the 2025 class, for which they’ve already picked up a handful of blue-chip players and rank among the top schools in the nation.

On Monday, the Ducks landed a commitment from four-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr., the son of Oregon legend Akili Smith, a former Pac-10 Player of the Year and the No. 3 pick in the 1999 NFL draft. The Ducks also have commitments from four-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, the No. 24 player in the 2024 class, and four-star WR Adrian Wilson, the No. 163 player in the class.

Earlier in the year, Oregon also grabbed a commitment from three-star interior offensive lineman Sandman Thompson.

So with four commitments already in 2025, where do the Ducks stand in the national rankings? Let’s take a look:
