LSU receiver target Derek Meadows pushes commitment back a week

Derek Meadows was set to commit on Saturday, but now, he’s pushing that decision back.

One of the top uncommitted prospects on LSU’s board was set to make a decision on Saturday, but as teams continue to push, he’s opted to move that commitment date back a week.

Now, four-star Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) wideout [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag] is set to make a decision on July 20. LSU is one of Meadows’ five finalists, joining Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Notre Dame.

Meadows is a top-50 prospect nationally in the 2025 cycle, ranking as the No. 41 overall player and No. 7 receiver. He’s also the class’ top recruit from the state of Nevada.

LSU had him on campus last month for an official visit, but it seems to have some ground to make up. Notre Dame holds a crystal ball projection to land him and is an 83% favorite according to the 247Sports composite.

However, his decision to push his commitment back is good news for teams in the mix that aren’t the Fighting Irish, and that includes a Tigers team that is looking to land an elite receiver after [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] decommitted in May and later flipped to Oregon.

LSU trending for top 10 receiver ahead of Saturday commitment

Notre Dame is seen as the favorite for Derek Meadows, but LSU is making a push.

After receiver decommitment [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] pledged to Oregon last week, LSU went back to the drawing board as it looks to add a top receiver recruit to the 2025 class.

It will have another shot at doing just that on Saturday as four-star Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) receiver [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag] is set to make a decision. Notre Dame is seen as the favorite for the No. 47 overall prospect and No. 7 receiver, according to the On3 industry rankings, but LSU may be in the mix.

According to LSU Country’s Zack Nagy, the Tigers are “surging” for Meadows after hosting him for an official visit earlier this summer. Meadows is set to decide between LSU, the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.

LSU is pushing for a top-five class in 2025 with a pair of industry five-stars already on board. Landing a top-50 prospect like Meadows at a position of need on Saturday would certainly go a long way.

Top LSU target DJ Pickett narrows decision to 3 schools, Tigers in the mix

Top LSU cornerback target DJ Pickett trimmed his list to three schools, keeping the Tigers in the mix.

Few prospects are higher on LSU’s board than five-star cornerback [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag]. LSU hired [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag] to land prospects of Pickett’s caliber and rebuild a secondary that’s experienced volatility since [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] arrived at LSU.

According to On3, Pickett has trimmed his list to three schools, removing Georgia from the equation.

That’s not necessarily good or bad news, but it’s one less top school LSU has to compete with for Pickett’s services. The race is now between LSU, Oregon and Miami.

Last week, On3’s Steve Wiltfong said “If the decision was today, I’d ride with the Ducks.”

That comes as no surprise given Oregon’s heater on the recruiting trail. Dan Lanning and company recently secured a commitment from [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag], the top wide receiver in the class and a former LSU commit. LSU losing another five-star to Oregon would sting, but it’s better than a conference rival.

Still, LSU is in need of a superstar corner. It’s been a while since the Tigers landed a five-star at the position. You’d have to go back to [autotag]Eli Ricks[/autotag] in 2020.

That’s rare for a program that became accustomed to landing some of the top defensive backs in the country year after year.

LSU won a national title in 2019 behind a historic offense, but that defense had a five-star corner duo with [autotag]Derek Stingley Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Kristian Fulton[/autotag]. That’s the level of talent LSU needs on the backend if it wants to compete for titles again.

LSU rising in recruiting rankings after landing several commitments this week

LSU’s class took a tumble after some recent decommits, but it’s now on its way back up after a big week on the trail.

LSU’s 2025 class took a hit in the ratings with a couple of key recent decommitments, namely five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] and four-star cornerback [autotag]Jaboree Antoine[/autotag].

It will take some time before the Tigers are pushing for the top class in the country as they were previously, but after landing a trio of commitments this week, they’re back on track.

On Thursday, they landed four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], and on Friday, they flipped four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag] from Texas while also securing a commitment from four-star, top-100 EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag].

With those recent additions, LSU’s 15-man 2025 class is climbing back up in the rankings. It now sits at No. 4 in On3’s industry rankings and ranks No. 6 in 247Sports rankings.

The Tigers are still in the mix for a few big-time players that could boost their spot in the rankings. Five-star receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag] is yet to make a decision, while five-star safety [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag] will make his decision later this month.

Top 100 EDGE Damien Shanklin commits to LSU

The Tigers capped off a big recruiting weekend by landing Damien Shanklin, the No. 86 player in the nation.

LSU has seen its standing in the 2025 recruiting rankings fall a bit in recent weeks, but it’s picked up quite a bit of momentum to start the July 4 weekend.

The Tigers landed a trio of commitments capped off by the addition of four-star EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag], who committed to the Tigers on Friday. Shanklin, an Indianapolis prospect, is the No. 86 player in the nation according to On3.

Notre Dame was trending for Shanklin for a while, but LSU was the favorite down the stretch aided by a successful June official visit. He joins recently committed defensive linemen [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag], the latter of which also committed on Friday after flipping from new SEC foe Texas.

Shanklin gives LSU its 15th commit in the 2025 recruiting class, which ranked as high as No. 2 earlier this month but has fallen down with some recent decommitments, notably from five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] and four-star cornerback [autotag]Jaboree Antoine[/autotag].

But with Shanklin and the other recent commitments now on board, that class ranks sixth nationally according to 247Sports and fourth per On3.

Watch No. 1 WR Dakorien Moore celebrate July 4 with fireworks revealing his college decision

Dakorien Moore celebrated the 4th of July in style with fireworks announcing his commitment to the Oregon Ducks. See the video here.

The No. 1 high school wide receiver in the nation chose the ideal way to celebrate the Fourth of July and announce his future football plans.

Dakorien Moore of Duncanville High School (Texas) lit off non-aerial fireworks on Thursday with smoke that revealed which of the four colleges he was considering—LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas—stood as his top choice.

After ignition, a couple of rockets shot off and eventually green smoke filled out of the box, signaling the talented wideout had chosen Eugene, Oregon, as his next stop.

Moore, who had a shirt lying face-down on a car behind the show, picked it up and revealed that the image on it was a Duck.

Moore, widely regarded as the best receiver in the class, is also ranked among leading outlets as a top-five overall recruit in the class of 2025. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, he had 33 offers. Moore had previously been committed to LSU before decommitting in May and visiting each of his finalists once more.

As a junior, he recorded 65 receptions for 1,303 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He also competed in the 100-meter race, 200-meter, 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays, and the long jump. The 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams finished second in the UIL 6A State Championships, while the 4×200 team won the title.

Oregon’s class of 2025, with 15 commits, is now ranked No. 5 in the nation ahead of its shift to the Big Ten.

Ohio State football misses on another target who goes to Oregon

The Ducks are starting to be a problem

Although the Oregon Ducks have yet to play a single game in the Big Ten, they are turning out to be a big problem for Ohio State football.

The Buckeyes and one of the newest members of the conference have battled it out for multiple recruits like Dorian Brew, Jordon Davison and Ajani Cornelius. Each of those battles have gone Oregon’s way, and it happened again on Thursday.

Texas 5-star wide receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] had Ohio State as one of his four finalists, but the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings chose the Ducks, also spurring Texas and LSU.

Ohio State is still in good position with its 2025 wide receiver class, as they currently have Quincy Porter, De’zie Jones and Bodpegn Miller committed. It’s clear the coaching staff still wants one more, but the pickings are getting slim at this point in the cycle.

Former LSU receiver commit Dakorien Moore pledges to Oregon

Moore spent nine months committed to the Tigers, but he’s now pledged to the Ducks.

In a bit of a twist, one-time LSU receiver commit [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] announced his commitment to Oregon on Thursday night.

Moore is a five-star who ranks as the top receiver and No. 3 overall recruit in the nation, and he committed to the Tigers back in August. The Duncanville, Texas, prospect backed off that pledge in May, however, and was widely predicted to end up at Texas.

He threw everyone for a loop on Thursday, announcing his commitment to the Ducks, who enter their first season in the Big Ten. Moore committed to Oregon over LSU, the Longhorns and Ohio State.

It’s a tough break for LSU, which will now look elsewhere for a top-tier receiver commit in the 2025 class.

Dakorien Moore, a 5-star wide receiver, commits to Oregon

Dakorien Moore has made his college commitment.

The biggest fireworks of Saturday came from Texas, with five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore committing to Oregon. He committed using a pyrotechnic show that utilized green smoke and green fireworks.

Moore committed to Oregon from a final group that also included LSU, Ohio State and Texas.

A consensus five-star recruit, he is the top-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2025. He is ranked as the third overall recruit in the nation by ESPN.

Last year, Moore had 65 receptions for 1,303 receiving yards with 15 touchdowns for Duncanville (Duncanville, Texas). It was a 14-1 season for Duncanville and they finished sixth in the nation in the final USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25.

During his commitment announcement, Moore said he made this decision over the past week.

“After today, I am done with my recruitment,” Moore said on Instagram Live prior to making his commitment announcement.

“I am shutting everything down. I am locked in on the school that I pick.”

In May, Moore de-committed from LSU.

Oregon Ducks land massive commitment from 5-star WR Dakorien Moore

The Oregon Ducks landed a massive commitment from 5-star WR Dakorien Moore, getting him over Texas, Ohio State, and LSU.

Dan Lanning did it again.

The Oregon Ducks gave fans quite the firework show on the Fourth of July, landing a massive commitment from 5-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore, one of the top players on the Ducks’ board in the 2025 cycle.

Moore chose Oregon over the Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers.

Rated as the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 1 receiver, Moore now comes to Oregon as the top-ranked player in the class for the Ducks, and the third 5-star, joining WR Dallas Wilson and CB Dorian Brew.

Moore has taken several visits to Oregon over the past year, including an official visit back in June. He left with rave reviews of the program, and it ultimately swayed him in his decision to commit to the Ducks.

With his commitment, Oregon now has a top-five class once again in the 2025 recruiting rankings.
