Jerry Jones confident Dak Prescott can return in time for Cowboys’ matchup vs. Eagles

Dallas owner Jerry Jones is confident that quarterback Dak Prescott can return in time for the Cowboys’ October 16 matchup vs. the Philadelphia Eagles

The Cowboys are one game behind in the NFC East, and as the team looks to stay afloat in the division, there’s some optimism concerning Dak Prescott’s fractured thumb.

Prescott had surgery on Monday just hours after suffering the break, and team owner Jerry Jones believes his quarterback will return before the 4-6 week designation.

Dallas balked at putting the quarterback on injured reserve.

Jones believes Prescott can return in time for the first of two gigantic matchups with the Philadelphia Eagles on October 16 at Lincoln Financial Field.

With the three other teams in the NFC East getting off to fast starts, Dallas appears to be panicking while banking on a Cooper Rush and Will Grier keeping the offensive afloat in Prescott’s absence.

NFC East news: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott to miss several week with thumb injury

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is out an extended period after fracturing his thumb and he’ll have surgery on Monday

The Dallas Cowboys will be without star quarterback Dak Prescott for several weeks after he undergoes surgery on a fractured thumb.

Prescott was injured in the fourth quarter of Dallas’ season-opening 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, and the injury will likely land him on injured reserve.

The Cowboys will turn to Cooper Rush as their starting quarterback in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Will Grier is the team’s No. 3 quarterback and he’s currently on the practice squad.

Prescott’s injury means Dallas will be without their star for the first matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football on October, 16.

Fantasy football reaction: Dak Prescott needs thumb surgery

Dallas loses Prescott to a significant thumb injury.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (thumb) suffered an unspecified injury to a joint in the thumb of his throwing hand and will miss multiple weeks following surgery, according to owner Jerry Jones.

The Cowboys looked lethargic and largely outmatched in Week 1 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Between a flimsy offensive line and an inexperienced receiving corps behind CeeDee Lamb, the passing game was trending in wrong direction in comparison to last year’s prolific effort.

Look for Dallas to start quarterback Cooper Rush in Prescott’s absence, and a reliance on the running game should the emphasis of the playcalling. Devalue all things Cowboys, perhaps with the lone exception of tight end Dalton Schultz. He could see a steady stream of targets from the mostly untested Rush.

Stash Prescott for the time being. He probably will miss three or four games at a minimum, depending upon how the surgery goes. Whether it’s a fracture or ligament injury, that’s about the usual timeline for a quarterback with such an ailment. We’ll monitor the situation as it unfolds.
