Steve Kerr takes playful dig at Rockets when talking about the Warriors offense for next season

Although they’ve gone through a wave of departures and additions, Steve Kerr says the Warriors won’t be changing their offensive attack.

On Monday, the Golden State Warriors wrapped up voluntary offseason minicamp inside their San Francisco “Dubble.” After an extended layoff from practice, the Warriors spent the last two weeks working out as a team at Chase Center.

Although Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were absent from minicamp due to family reasons, Klay Thompson made his first official appearance on the court at practice after missing the entire season due to the knee injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.

While Thompson has been rehabbing his ACL injury, a lot has changed in Golden State. Along with the arrivals of Eric Paschall, Marquese Chriss and Andrew Wiggins, players like Kevin Durant, Shaun Livingston, Andre Iguodala and DeMarcus Cousins are no longer in Steve Kerr’s rotation. On top of the roster changes, Thompson’s fellow Splash Brother missed 60 games with a hand injury in 2019-20.

However, the movement in the Bay Area isn’t going to force Steve Kerr to make dramatic changes to his offense around Curry, Thompson and Green. In an interview on The Athletic’s “TK Show” with Tim Kawakami. Kerr said the Warriors wouldn’t be “reinventing the wheel” with their new personnel in town.

When talking with Kawakami about Golden State’s offense, Kerr took a dig at the Houston Rockets’ playing style.

Via The Athletic’s “TK Show

We’ve stayed in touch, and I’ve spoken with both those guys on the phone, and I think they have a pretty good feel for what we’re trying to do. We’re not reinventing the wheel, but we have very different personnel around those guys. We’re still going to be the Warriors. We’re not going to all of a sudden, turn into the Rockets and change our offense and have one guy go high pick-and-roll, 70 times a game.

…But, We got to be ourselves. And what makes Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson] the players they are is the combination of what they can do on and off-ball— that’s what moves defenses. And what makes Draymond [Green] special is his ability to distribute from either the four or the five spots — to have playmaking at that level really.

Listen to Kerr’s full interview with Kawakami here.

Along with the currents changes to the lineup, the Warriors still have the NBA Draft and the free agency period to add to their roster. In November, Kerr and Bob Myers will be on the clock with the No. 2 overall selection in the NBA Draft. Following draft night, the Warriors will have the option to use a $17.2 million traded player exception and their $6 million mid-level exception.

Despite a new look in 2020-21, Kerr isn’t going to mirror the Rockets’ isolation heavy attack. However, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and the Rockets could be in for some changes of their own next season. After moving on from Mike D’Antoni, the Rockets are in the market for a play-caller on the sidelines.

Although there will be changes on both sides next season, the core of Golden State’s rivalry with Houston is still in place. While it could look different, whenever Curry and Thompson lace up against Harden and Westbrook, it’s must-watch theater.

Report: Steph Curry and Draymond Green ‘doubtful’ to participate in Warriors offseason minicamp

Both Steph Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Golden State Warriors in-market offseason minicamp due to family reasons.

Although they’re not in the Orlando Bubble for the postseason, the Golden State Warriors will be back on the court soon. Starting next week, the Warriors will open up a mid-offseason minicamp.

On Monday, members of the Golden State Warriors will report to a team designated hotel in San Francisco for coronavirus testing and a 48-hour quarantine. Following the testing period, group workouts will take place at the Chase Center. The hotel and arena will serve as an in-market bubble for two weeks.

With the Warriors not included in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble plan, the minicamp will be the first time Steve Kerr’s squad will be on the floor together for organized basketball activities in six months. Yet, Golden State could be without a pair of All-Stars.

According to Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group, both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Warriors minicamp due to “family reasons.”

Via @wcgoldberg on Twitter:

If Green and Curry can join Golden State’s camp after the start, both players are allowed to join the team anytime during the two-week camp after they clear coronavirus protocols, per Goldberg.

Although Curry and Green aren’t expected to be inside Golden State’s edition of the Bubble, Klay Thompson could rejoin his teammates for the first time since injuring his knee in the 2019 NBA Finals.

The Warriors offseason minicamp will allow Kerr and Bob Myers to see a healthy Thompson alongside Golden State’s 2019 arrivals Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss.

With a bevy of questions surrounding the Warriors prior to their early entrance to the offseason, getting the players back on the court could provide some clarity after an extended layoff.

Steph Curry had ‘major FOMO’ watching the first week of games at the Orlando Bubble

During the first week of NBA restart action in the Orlando Bubble, Stephen Curry admitted he had “major FOMO.”

After leading the Golden State Warriors to five consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, Stephen Curry has spent most of the 2019-20 season on the sidelines. After missing a majority of the season with a hand injury he suffered in October, Curry’s return to the court was limited to only one game after the league was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fast forward to the NBA’s restart in August, Curry’s Warriors are one of the eight teams on the outside of the Orlando Bubble. With no games on the calendar for an extended period of time, Curry is missing hoops.

In an interview with Marc Stein of the New York Times, Curry revealed he had “major FOMO” watching games at Disney World. During the first week of seeding games in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble, Curry admitted he suffered from the fear of missing out.

Via The New York Times:

Obviously I was happy to see basketball back on TV, but that first week I had major FOMO.

Once you see Bron and Kawhi and P.G. go at it, and you remember how much fun it is to play in those types of games and that kind of level, you miss it badly.

Until the Warriors are able to schedule an offseason mini-camp, Curry will have to settle his hoops fix at individual workouts.

While a group of teams are contending for playoff position in the Orlando Bubble, Curry has been working out in preparation for his long-awaited return to the court. A recent video was shared of the two-time Most Valuable Player throwing down a one-handed alley-oop dunk.

When he’s not in the gym, the six-time All-Star has been chiming in on what’s going on at Disney World. Whether it’s welcoming Joel Embiid to the Under Armour signature shoe family or commenting on his former teammate Andre Iguodala’s play, Curry has been following along with the NBA’s restart.

Watch: Steph Curry throws down a one-handed alley-oop dunk at workout

While 22 teams are battling in the Orlando Bubble, Warriors point guard Steph Curry is working on his dunking repertoire.

While 22-teams are capping off the stretch run of seeding games in the Orlando Bubble, the Golden State Warriors are at home. With the league’s worst record, the Warriors are one of eight teams not involved with the NBA’s restart plans.

Despite Golden State entering offseason mode, Stephen Curry is staying active in the gym. On Friday, the Warriors point guard shared a video from the gym where he welcomed Joel Embiid to the Under Armour family.

The following day, more video surfaced from Curry’s workout. Kris Stone shared a clip of Curry throwing down a one-handed alley-oop dunk. Curry’s longtime trainer Brandon Payne provided the dish.

Via @gswchris on Twitter:

After his workout, Curry chimed in on Instagram with his own reaction to the dunk. With a shoutout to the teams at Disney World, Curry wrote “non bubble legs!!!!”

Curry last suited up for the Warriors on March 7 against the Toronto Raptors. Prior to his tilt with the defending champs, the two-time Most Valuable Player missed the previous 58 games due to a hand injury he suffered in October 2019.

With plans of a second bubble still being discussed, Curry and the Warriors will have an extended layoff before they return to the floor in 2020. With no hoops on the calendar, Curry will have plenty of time to rest his legs and add more dunks to his offensive repertoire.
