Former Nets guard Mike James calls Steph Curry’s game one-dimensional

Former Brooklyn Net Mike James sounds off on why Steph Curry isn’t in his top-five players list.

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Mike James sounded off on Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry’s style of play earlier this week, calling it “one-dimensional.”

Professional French basketball player James joined the Players Choice podcast, opening up on Curry. He said:

Steph, how he plays and how he gets stuff off, it’s just kinda one-dimensional at times. He’s not the primary ball-handler a lot, and for a point guard that kinda bothers me.

The former EuroLeaguer was discussing his top five players, which he didn’t include Curry on.

James was teammates with Kevin Durant and the two grew very close, he actually also talked to the podcast about Durant’s appearance overseas to attend James’ playoff campaign. He revealed that Durant may have already known the team was going to lose in the postseason.

He lists Durant, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic in his top-five players list.

“I think those other five can do whatever they want to do on any team in the world right now,” Mike James said.

Seth Curry: Nets’ Ben Simmons doesn’t need jumpshot to be successful

Brooklyn Nets’ shapshooter Seth Curry opened up on Ben Simmons, rejecting the notion that he needs a jumpshot.

While the NBA world has its attention on the Kevin Durant trade request and the reported offer from the Boston Celtics, sharpshooting teammate Seth Curry had some words of encouragement about Brooklyn Nets playmaker Ben Simmons.

Reportedly Curry talked to News Corp, denying the idea that Simmons needs a jumpshot.

“He’s just got to do what he does best – which is defend, rebound, push the ball, make plays for other people and attack the rim. When you’ve got the size and talent like him, who takes not one but two and sometimes three guys to stop him getting to the rim, that is a lot in itself,” Curry said. “He’s a multiple All Star right now for a reason,’’ he said. “If he can add knocking down free throws at a higher clip, it’s going to allow him to be unstoppable once he puts his head down.”

Curry went on a tour to Australia less than two weeks ago on a tour for Foot Locker. Curry did also talk to the Melbourne Age, saying that the road ahead for Simmons is quite challenging.

Steph Curry calls his new pregame tunnel shot from the stands ‘a tough act to follow’

After swishing a new tunnel shot from the stands, Steph Curry called the end to his pregame shooting routine “a tough act to follow.”

Before the Golden State Warriors tipped off against the Denver Nuggets for their first game of the 2020-21 preseason, Stephen Curry debuted a new pregame tunnel shot.

Over his career at Oakland’s Oracle Arena, Curry developed his pregame tunnel shot into a fan favorite in the Bay Area.

With Golden State’s move to Chase Center in San Francisco, the two-time Most Valuable Player debuted a new shot to close his pregame warm-up. After finishing his shooting routine on the court with a trick shot that featured Leandro Barbosa, Curry made a trip through the tunnel into the stands.

From the first row of the elevated rows of seating, the Warriors point guard launched a difficult deep shot from a unique angle that swished through the net.

After the game, Curry called his pregame tunnel shot from the stands of Chase Center, “a tough act to follow.”

That stuff just kind of comes to you. I don’t know — it was good adrenaline, good mojo. It’s going to be a tough act to follow, though, don’t get your hopes up.

Curry followed his new signature pregame shot with 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field. The 32-year-old added three assists, two steals and a board in 21 minutes during Golden State’s 107-105 victory over the Nuggets.

To see if his pregame heave is a good luck charm, the six-time All-Star will need to break out the shot from the stands before Golden State’s next game during the regular season. If the Warriors register another victory, Curry’s new shot could become a staple at Chase Center.

Watch: Steph Curry shows off new pregame tunnel shot from the stands

Before the Golden State Warriors tipoff against the Denver Nuggets, Steph Curry showed off a new edition of his famous pregame tunnel shot.

With Stephen Curry back on the court for the Golden State Warriors, his notorious pregame traditions are making their return to Chase Center.

On Saturday, Curry and the Warriors tipoff against the Denver Nuggets for their first preseason contest of the 2019-20 campaign. Before the game, the two-time Most Valuable Player was going through his famed pregame shooting routine.

To end his pregame warmup session, Curry disappeared into the tunnel. The two-time Most Valuable Player appeared in the opening between the first row of the stands. Curry launched a deep shot from the elevated platform for a nothing but net swish.

In the past, Curry’s former pregame shot from the tunnel turned into a staple at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. After years of success with his Oracle tunnel shot, swishing his first pregame attempt in the preseason could be a positive sign for the future for Curry and the Warriors.

Andrew Wiggins is ‘very excited’ to have Steph Curry back on the court for the Warriors

After only playing one game together last season, Andrew Wiggins is “very excited” to have Steph Curry back on the court for the Warriors.

After landing in the Bay Area on a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves on deadline day, Andrew Wiggins only suited up for 12 games with the Golden State Warriors before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Over his short stint with the Warriors, Wiggins averaged 19.4 points on 45.7% shooting from the field with 4.6 boards, 3.6 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per contest.

During the former Rookie of the Year’s debut stint with the Warriors, he only played one game with Stephen Curry. Wiggins tallied 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the field with 10 boards, two assists and two blocks in 37 minutes against the Raptors.

With Curry healthy to start the 2020-21 season, Wiggins is excited to have the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player back on the court. At a post-training camp practice press conference with media, Wiggins said Curry’s presence is a “game-changer.”

I’m excited. I’m very excited having Steph Curry back. He’s someone that can do everything for us. Once he steps on the floor — just his presence is a game-changer. He on the floor is a game-changer. Getting a chance to play alongside him and learning, seeing how he goes about certain stuff — that’s what’s most important. I think him stepping on the court is going to be a game-changer.

Throughout Golden State’s preseason training camp at Chase Center, Wiggins and Curry will quickly have to get familiar with each other on the court. Following Klay Thompson’s injury, Wiggins will likely play alongside Curry in the backcourt on some possessions.

With only one game from last season and a limited amount of practice, Curry and Wiggins will need all the time they can get to build chemistry before opening night against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 22.

Steph Curry says there’s been ‘conversations’ about a new potential contract extension with the Warriors

During conversations about a potential contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry says “everything is on the table.”

After averaging 25.3 points on 46.8% shooting from the field with 6.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest over the 2016-17 season, Stephen Curry finalized a five-year, $201 million super-max contract with the Warriors at the start of the offseason.

Fast forward three years, Curry acknowledged there’s been “conversations” about another contract extension with the Golden State Warriors.

Following Golden State’s first practice at the 2020 preseason training camp, Curry said, “everything is on the table,” with a potential contract extension in Golden State.

We have conversations. Everything’s on the table right now. I know just in terms of everything I’ve talked about being a Warrior and what the future holds. Obviously, I’m fully committed on what that is. And understanding I’ve got to do what’s right for me and the team and then having those conversations. I feel blessed to be in a position where I can say that and truly believe it. It’s a matter of just letting things kind of play out the way that they should and that’s kind of where we’re at right now.

After getting drafted No. 7 overall by the Warriors in 2009, Curry has spent all 11 years of his NBA campaign wearing Golden State’s No. 30 kit. The five-time All-Star said it’s a “huge goal” to wear the same Golden State Warriors jersey for as long as he can in his career.

Wearing the same jersey for as long as I can, I think that’s a huge goal for sure. It’s an elite club of guys that you look at that have played with the same organization and been successful and achieved greatness in that respect. So that would be an awesome accomplishment — something that I’ve obviously spoken publicly about and am very committed to…

Listen to Curry’s full post-practice presser via Warriors SoundCloud.

If Curry and the Warriors can agree to an extension before the season opener against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 22, the two-time Most Valuable Player can tack on three years to his deal worth up to $156 million, per Bobby Marks of ESPN.

An extension before the Dec. 21 deadline could lock Curry up in Golden State until he’s 37-years-old. If the Warriors don’t ink Curry to an extension in 2020, the Warriors will have the opportunity to work a deal with the sharpshooting point guard during the 2021 offseason.
