The middle of the week is now upon us which means there are only a few more days until the Florida Gators take to the field against the Vanderbilt Commodores as the college football season persists despite the many challenges the COVID-19 pandemic have posed.

While Kyle Trask and company have been cruising along since his season was interrupted by a coronavirus outbreak on the team, UF has other sports also partaking in fall competition. Let us take a look at what is on tap around the Gator Nation.

Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete in the Auburn Fall Invitational from Nov. 18-20 at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center. The third-ranked men are looking to bounce back from their season-opening dual meet loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, while the tenth-ranked women look to continue their winning ways after earning their first victory of the season on Nov. 5 over in-state rival Miami. The event concludes the swimming portion of the schedule for both squads.

The Florida Gators football team kicked off the second half of its 2020 schedule with a big win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, as quarterback Kyle Trask continues to set new records en route to a shot at the Heisman Trophy.

In other Gators sports, the soccer team pulled out a 6-5 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in an overtime thriller to start off the SEC Tournament on Friday night. However, the squad dropped its match on Sunday to the Missouri Tigers, 2-1, to end Florida’s run in the tournament as well as the 2020 season.

The men’s swimming and diving team excelled after three days at the 2020 Toyota U.S. Open at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Fla. UF earned in eight medals, posted seven new LCM personal-bests and made 20 trial cuts at the conclusion of the national meet. The Gators next competition takes place at the Auburn Invitational from Nov. 18-20 at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

[jwplayer RjcJQ9no]

Friday is here, which means tomorrow we get to watch our beloved Florida Gators take the field against the Arkansas Razorbacks in the cozy confines of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Now in the driver’s seat in the SEC East, all the Gators need to do is win these last games that they are expected to win.

Meanwhile, there is a bit of action outside of The Swamp for Florida athletics, starting with the fourth-ranked volleyball team’s first defeat of the season at the South Carolina Gamecocks. It was a tightly-contested five-set match that the Gators just fell short in.

The men’s swimming and diving team completed its first day of the 2020 Toyota U.S. Open, the results of which can be found here. Competition continues through tomorrow.

Today, the soccer team kicks off the SEC Tournament against the Kentucky Wildcats in Orange Beach, Ala. Florida enters the tournament as the 13th seed out of 14 total teams and the game is scheduled for a late 9:30 p.m. EST start.

Gators News: SEC commish Sankey ‘troubled’ by COVID-19

Greg Sankey had some somber words about the state of college football while volleyball remains undefeated and men’s swim and dive in US Open

[jwplayer rsybIgFL]

The big game is fast approaching as the week starts to wind down on this Thursday. While football is on the mind of much of the Gator Nation, many of its fellow Southeastern Conference peers are dealing with postponements and cancellations due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

That is where we start today.

On Wednesday, conference commissioner Greg Sanky suggested that the college football season is in some real trouble during a media conference call.

“I have to acknowledge (we’re) troubled by what’s happened this week. There’s still an opportunity to focus on (Dec.) 19th, but we have to adjust further within our programs to maintain the health that we did such a great job of early on.”

There’s no clear answer why the SEC, which has been testing players and coaches three times a week for quite a while now, has suddenly become the center of the COVID universe in college sports, but the writing is on the wall.

In Gators sports news, the volleyball team beat the South Carolina Gamecocks on the road in straight sets to stay perfect on the season. The two teams will play again tonight in Columbus, S.C., as part of a back-to-back set.

Today, the men’s swimming and diving team begin competition in the 2020 Toyota U.S. Open at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Fla. 18 current and five former Gators are entered into events throughout the four long-course meter event sessions.

Gators News: COVID-19 postpones SEC football, men’s golf finishes season

Alabama-LSU, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State were all postponed due to COVID-19 outbreaks while UF sports continues.

It is Wednesday again, which means we are halfway to another gameday Saturday, with the Arkansas Razorbacks coming to town to face the Florida Gators on the football field.

The big news comes from around the Southeastern Conference, which has three games postponed this weekend due to COVID-19 outbreaks: Alabama-LSU, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State. The conference announced Tuesday that a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and quarantining will force Saturday’s Alabama at LSU game, as well as Texas A&M at Tennessee, to be postponed; a day earlier, the SEC announced the postponement of Auburn at Mississippi State.

In Gators sports, the men’s golf team finished the third and final round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate — also their final tournament of the season — posting a 7-over par overall score of 847 to finish in 10th place.

Today, the volleyball team travels to South Carolina for a back-to-back match with the Gamecocks. Florida is currently ranked fourth in the nation and carries a 4-0 (4-0 SEC) record while the Gamecocks are ranked No. 15 with a 4-2 (4-2 SEC) coming in.

Gators News: Men’s golf continues play, volleyball travels to SC

Florida Gators football is getting ready for the weekend while the men’s team continues play in its final tournament and volleyball travels.

[jwplayer 08zUj48U]

Another Monday has gone by, leaving college and professional football in the rearview as another week of action comes to a close. Typically, Tuesday is when the gears begin to shift and the fans start looking forward to the next round of games. Florida Gators fans are beginning to build their anticipation for this week’s matchup with the Arkansas Razorbacks in The Swamp.

The football team is not the only ticket in town, however. Currently, the men’s golf team completed the second round of play at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, finishing in ninth place — the same spot they finished the first round at. The tournament wraps up today as does the golf team’s season.

Tomorrow, the volleyball team travels to South Carolina for a back-to-back match with the Gamecocks. Florida is currently ranked fourth in the nation and carries a 4-0 (4-0 SEC) record while the Gamecocks are ranked No. 15 with a 4-2 (4-2 SEC) coming in.

Gators News: It’s great to be a Florida Gator!

Florida faces its biggest game of the year this Saturday against UGA, but it’s the only team in action as men’s tennis and soccer also play.

[jwplayer tMFuzfMU]

Friday has finally arrived and the big game against the Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville is drawing nigh. The hype has been building all week and will hopefully culminate in a big win for the Florida Gators and a major step towards an appearance in the SEC Championship Game.

At the top of the news, the UF-UGA game is among the most important games played this weekend according to USA TODAY Sports. While we humbly disagree with the ranking, number two on the list will have to do.

Meanwhile, other Florida athletics squads are in action, starting with the No. 10-ranked women’s swimming and diving team, who put a beatdown on the Miami Hurricanes yesterday to win their home opener. The Lady Gators have now completed the dual meet portion of the season and the respective teams will split for competition the rest of the year.

Friday, the men’s tennis team travels to Athens, Ga., for the 53rd Southern Collegiate Championships. This year will feature over 40 players from four league schools — Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Finally, the soccer team heads to Lexington to play the Kentucky Wildcats today. The match is the first of the last two road games remaining on the SEC schedule, with the finale coming against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Sunday.

Gators News: Swimming and diving, tennis, soccer and the big game

The University of Florida has its biggest game of the year vs UGA coming up but there are also other sports that will see action.

[jwplayer tMFuzfMU]

We are only two days away from the biggest athletic event in Florida sports as the football team gets ready to face their most fierce rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs, in Jacksonville this Saturday. However, it is not just gridiron action on the agenda leading up to the weekend, as several Gators athletic clubs are scheduled to compete as well.

Today, the No. 10 women’s swimming and diving team host the Miami Hurricanes in the O’Connell Center Natatorium for their second meet of the fall season. The Lady Gators dropped their first matchup at fourth-ranked Georgia back on Oct. 30.

Tomorrow, the men’s tennis team travels to Athens, Ga., for the 53rd Southern Collegiate Championships. This year will feature over 40 players from four league schools — Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Also happening on Friday, the soccer team heads to Lexington to play the Kentucky Wildcats. The match is the first of the last two road games remaining on the SEC schedule, with the finale coming against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Sunday.

Gators News: The Election Day doldrums in Florida sports

Sports-related topics on the ballot as well as the Heisman Trophy Watch lead the stories from this Election Day edition of Gators News.

[jwplayer VsfSdx04]

It is Election Day here in the United States of America and while the latest word from the voting booth dominates the news today, we have a few stories from around the sports world to keep you otherwise occupied.

On that opening note, from gambling to hunting and fishing to a controversial WNBA figure to a former NFL player and a former major college coach, Tuesday’s elections feature a variety of sports-related decisions. USA TODAY Sports takes a look at all of the sports-related issues on the ballot.

Meanwhile, Kyle Trask is still mentioned in USA TODAY Sports’ Heisman Trophy Watch, but like last week, only received one third-place vote. Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones stole the top spot from Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence this past week.

In Gators sports news, all athletic teams are off until Thursday, when the women’s swimming and diving team hosts the Miami Hurricanes in the O’Connell Center Natatorium for their second meet of the season.
