Oregon State transfer Ian Massey becomes late addition to Colorado’s secondary

Colorado added a late piece to its secondary

Head coach Deion Sanders picked up a late transfer portal commitment on Tuesday as former Oregon State Beavers safety Ian Massey announced his pledge to the Colorado Buffaloes.

After spending two years at Trinity Valley Community College in Texas, Massey moved to Corvallis in 2021 and spent three seasons there before entering the portal on June 17.

According to OSUBeavers.com, Massey’s lone appearance with the Beavers coincidentally came against Colorado during the 2021 season. However, BeaversEdge, part of the Rivals.com network, reported that Massey appeared in five total games from 2021-22. Either way, Massey doesn’t have much game experience at the Division I level.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back hails from Houston, Texas (Westfield High School).

Colorado football held its third fall camp practice on Wednesday in preparation for its second season under Coach Prime.

Former Buffs defensive back Jahquez Robinson reunites with Charles Kelly at Auburn

After about six months in the transfer portal, Jahquez Robinson has found a new home

Now with the Auburn Tigers, former Colorado football defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will get another opportunity to work with Jahquez Robinson.

Auburn announced its signing of the transfer defensive back on Friday, setting up another reunion between Kelly and Robinson.

Robinson spent the first three years of his college career with the Alabama Crimson Tide while Kelly was an associate defensive coordinator/safeties coach on Nick Saban’s staff. After spending the 2023 season together in Boulder, Kelly accepted a co-DC role at Auburn — his alma mater — in December, and Robinson entered the transfer portal on Jan. 11.

With the Buffs, Robinson recorded nine total tackles, one TFL and an interception in nine games played. His pick came at the expense of recent Denver Broncos draft pick Bo Nix, who began his college career at Auburn before transferring to the Oregon Ducks.

Auburn went 6-7 last season (3-5 SEC) with a loss to Maryland in the Music City Bowl.

Former Colorado WR Tar’Varish Dawson reportedly transfers to Jacksonville State

Former Colorado wideout Tar’Varish Dawson is reportedly headed to Jacksonville State

Former Colorado Buffaloes football wide receiver Tar’Varish Dawson is transferring to Jacksonville State, per 247Sports reporter Matt Zenitz.

The move marks Dawson’s third school in three years after transferring from the Auburn Tigers to Colorado last offseason. With the Buffs, Dawson played in only four games, all during the first four weeks of the season. He hauled in 14 passes for 124 yards in those contests, including his first career touchdown catch against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Following the end of the season, Dawson was reportedly dismissed from the Buffs due to a personal matter, resulting in his entrance to the transfer portal. The speedy 5-foot-10 receiver quickly racked up offers from Football Championship Subdivision programs before landing with the Gamecocks, who joined the Conference USA last year. Dawson didn’t fail to ruffle some feathers, however, when he visited in-state rival Colorado State in May.

Dawson is now at Jacksonville State, but numerous other former Buffs remain in the transfer portal.

Colorado picks up long snapper from transfer portal

Colorado picked up a long snapper from the transfer portal

Longtime Arizona Wildcats long snapper Kameron Hawkins announced Saturday that he’ll continue his college football career with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Hawkins spent the past four years in Tucson but played sparingly, seeing game action only twice since 2022. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound California native entered the portal in April just prior to Arizona’s spring game.

Coming out of Orange Lutheran High School, Hawkins was the fifth-ranked long snapper in the 2020 recruiting class.

Colorado watched fellow long snapper Cameron Warchuck enter the transfer portal and commit to Washington earlier this offseason, giving Hawkins a clear path to playing time next fall. If he does become the Buffs’ No. 1 long snapper, Hawkins will play a key role in the success of Mark Vassett, who should be one of the Big 12’s top punters next season.

Rashad Amos officially flips commitment from Colorado to Ole Miss

Rashad Amos was a Buff for about three weeks

Rashad Amos added another chapter to his busy offseason on Saturday as the multi-time transfer running back officially flipped his commitment from Colorado to Ole Miss.

This marks Amos’ second transfer portal flip in the past few months. After spending last season at Miami-Ohio, he committed to Mississippi State in mid-April before flipping to Colorado about two weeks later.

Amos visited Ole Miss this past week before committing, per On3.

With the RedHawks, Amos rushed for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns on 13 carries in 2023. The Georgia native had spent the prior three seasons at South Carolina, seeing action in only 13 games.

Here’s what Amos wrote on social media regarding his latest flip:

“I’d like to thank everybody for the support. This has not been for the faint hearted. I’d like to thank all of the coaches that have poured into me throughout this process. I really appreciate it. Finding the best fit isn’t a simple task on or off the field. I’ve had a lot to consider thus far. So after speaking on that I would like to decommit from Colorado! Thank you to everyone.”

Colorado’s running back room now features only three scholarship players: Ohio State transfer Dallan Hayden, incoming freshman Micah Welch and former walk-on Charlie Offerdahl.

Recent Colorado commit Rashad Amos predicted to flip schools again

Rashad Amos may soon pull off the rare offseason double-flip

Recent Colorado football commit Rashad Amos could soon pull off the rare offseason double-flip.

As reported by On3 Friday morning, the 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back visited Ole Miss earlier this week and is currently projected to land with the Rebels. Amos, who played at Miami-OH last season before entering the transfer portal, was committed to Mississippi State for about two weeks before committing to the Buffs on April 26.

If Amos does commit to Ole Miss, it would represent the fifth college program of his college career. South Carolina housed Amos from 2020-22, although he only played in 13 total games with the Gamecocks.

Amos enjoyed a breakout season at Miami-Ohio this past season, rushing for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns on 210 carries.

On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Amos is also hearing from Miami, Ole Miss, UCF, Utah and Virginia.

Former Buff Marvin Ham II lands in Sun Belt Conference

Marvin Ham II will be continuing his college career in the Sun Belt Conference

Former Colorado football linebacker Marvin Ham II announced his commitment to the Sun Belt Conference’s Arkansas State Red Wolves on Thursday.

Ham played under four head coaches — Mel Tucker, Karl Dorrell, interim Mike Sanford and Deion Sanders — in five years at Colorado before entering the transfer portal in November. He wrapped his Buffs career with 66 total tackles, 2.5 TFLs and one sack in 40 games played, including 10 starts.

One of the few holdovers from CU’s 2022 team, the Michigan native started at linebacker in the Buffs’ first three games last season and recorded a career-high 10 tackles against TCU. Colorado listed Ham at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds.

Following visit, transfer safety Savion Riley commits to Colorado football

Following a recent trip to Boulder, safety Savion Riley has committed to Colorado

One week after visiting with Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders in Boulder, transfer portal safety Savion Riley committed to the Buffs on Saturday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Colorado marks Riley’s second transfer commitment this offseason. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defensive back spent the past two years at Vanderbilt before entering the portal in December and committing to Miami. Riley was a Hurricane for about four months, seeing first-team reps this spring.

As a redshirt freshman at Vanderbilt last season, Riley played in eight games and started two. He finished the year with 48 total tackles, including a career-high 12 against the Florida Gators on Oct. 7.

247Sports tabbed the Acworth, Georgia native as a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

Including Riley, Colorado has landed seven defensive backs out of the transfer portal this offseason.

Alton McCaskill IV staying within Big 12 Conference

Alton McCaskill IV is keeping his talents within the Big 12

Former Colorado football running back Alton McCaskill IV is keeping his talents within the Big 12 Conference.

After entering the transfer portal last month, McCaskill announced his commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back began his college career at Houston before spending one season with the Buffs. Still recovering from an ACL injury he suffered at Houston, McCaskill played in four games at Colorado before opting to redshirt. He finished the year with 59 rushing yards on 14 carries.

McCaskill, the 2021 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, represents the second former Colorado player to join the Sun Devils this offseason. Short-lived Buff Chamon Metayer committed to ASU on April 24 following about four months in Colorado’s tight end room.

Arizona State, which is joining the Big 12 this summer along with Colorado, Arizona and Utah, finished 3-9 last season under first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham. The Buffs and Sun Devils are not scheduled to meet during the 2024 regular season.

Fellow Colorado transfer RB Dylan Edwards is also staying within the Big 12, recently giving his commitment to Kansas State.

Wide receiver Willie Gaines commits to Murray State after leaving Colorado

Willie Gaines revealed his transfer portal commitment

Another former Colorado Buffaloes player has found a new home after entering the transfer portal.

Wide receiver Willie Gaines announced via X on Wednesday that he has committed to the Murray State Racers. Gaines, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver from Cocoa, Florida, played under head coach Deion Sanders for the last two seasons, one at Jackson State and one in Boulder.

The Racers have gotten a speedster in Gaines. He can take the top off of a defense and should get the opportunity to showcase that speed next year. In 2022 — playing at Jackson State alongside Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders — Gaines hauled in 27 passes for 446 yards, good for 16.5 yards per catch and five touchdowns. Gaines caught two passes for 12 yards during his lone season with the Buffs.

Murray State struggled last year, going 2-9 overall (1-7 Missouri Valley Football Conference).
