NFL, NFLPA agree to lift COVID-19 protocols

#NFL, #NFLPA agree to lift #COVID19 protocols around the league effective immediately #NFLCombine #NFLDraft2022 #NFLminicamp

In a move that should finally help things get back to normal from a football standpoint, Tom Pelissero is reporting that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to lift the joint COVID-19 related protocols, sending a memo to all 32 teams.

According to the memo, regardless of league personnel’s vaccination status, there will be no more testing, no more tracking devices, and no more tiers or limits in cafeterias/weight rooms.

Masks are reportedly no longer required in team facilities, regardless of vaccination status.

“We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of the players, coaches, and staff, as we have throughout the pandemic,” the NFL said in the memo. “Should there be a reason to reimpose aspects of the Protocols or to take other measures, we will work closely with clubs, the NFLPA, and our respective experts, and local, state, and federal public health officials to continue to safeguard the health of the NFL community.”

Teams will still be required to remain “in compliance with state and local law and are free to continue reasonable measures to protect their staff and players,” according to the memo, but from an NFL point of view, the media should eventually return to the locker room and fan access should return to some sort of normalcy.

Eagles activate 4 players off the COVID-19 list ahead of matchup at Washington

#Philadelphia #Eagles activate OT Le’Raven Clark, LT Andre Dillard, DE Tarron Jackson, and DE Ryan Kerrigan from the Reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of the matchup at #WashiingtonFootball

With the Eagles heading into an important Week 17 matchup against the Washington Football Team, the team announced that four key players have been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Philadelphia still has five players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list: defensive end Derek Barnett, linebacker Shaun Bradley, defensive back Andre Chachere, wide receiver John Hightower (practice squad), and tight end Noah Togiai (practice squad).

The team will announce its first injury report later today.

Chargers add 4 players to COVID-19 list, remove 5

As the COVID-19 outbreak on the Chargers continues to develop, the team placed four players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

As the COVID-19 outbreak on the Chargers continues to develop, the team placed four players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday afternoon.

The following players were officially added:

LS Matt Overton

K Dustin Hopkins

OT Trey Pipkins

CB Davontae Harris

Five players came off the Reserve/COVID-19 list, with those being:

DL Justin Jones

EDGE Chris Rumph

QB Chase Daniel

OL Senio Kelemete

KR/PR Andre Roberts

The Chargers currently have 14 active-roster players, with the most notables being Joey Bosa, Corey Linsley, Mike Williams, Nasir Adderley, and Michael Davis. However, there’s a chance they could play this weekend, given the new guidelines.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association on Tuesday adopted the new Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention guidelines that would reduce the quarantine time to five days from 10 days for all players, including those who are unvaccinated, if they are asymptomatic.

Chargers remove 3 from reserve/COVID-19 list

After adding seven players on Monday, the Chargers removed three from the COVID-19 list.

The Chargers on Monday removed Austin Ekeler, Tevaughn Campbell, and Joe Gaziano from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

This move came after the team placed seven players on the COVID-19 list.

Ekeler, Campbell and Gaziano had all been on the list since last week, and were forced to miss Los Angeles’ loss to the Texans.

The removal of those three leaves the Bolts with 15 active-roster players on the COVID list.

Chargers hit hard with COVID-19, 7 players added to reserve list

The Chargers will be short-handed in the secondary when they face the Broncos in Week 17.

The Chargers’ COVID-19 outbreak does not appear to be slowing down, as seven players were added to the reserve list on Monday.

Those players are:

DB Chris Harris Jr.

CB Michael Davis

S Nasir Adderley

S Alohi Gilman

EDGE Emeke Egbule

OL Senio Kelemete

DL Andrew Brown

Since they’re unvaccinated, Nasir Adderley and Chris Harris Jr. join Mike Williams as those who will miss this weekend’s game against the Broncos.

Therefore, the secondary will be short-handed, as Asante Samuel Jr. and Derwin James will be the only starters.

Los Angeles entered the Week 16 matchup against the Texans with 14 players on the reserve list, with Michael Davis being the latest add after testing positive moments before the game.

Browns activate 5 starters among 8 coming off COVID-19 list

8 players return including 5 starters and some key pieces while one is added to the list. The current COVID list is at seven for the Browns:

The Cleveland Browns are working to get their whole team back for the last two games of the season. The Browns still have a chance at an AFC North championship with two wins and losses for the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals and Ravens are underdogs in their games so Cleveland may control their own destiny very quickly despite a season full of struggle.

Getting as many players back from the reserve/COVID-19 list as well as healthy could be the key for the finishing games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Bengals.

Monday, the team activated eight players, five of them starters:

  • DE Jadeveon Clowney
  • G Drew Forbes
  • S Ronnie Harrison Jr.
  • CB Troy Hill
  • RB Kareem Hunt
  • DT Malik McDowell
  • T Jedrick Wills Jr.
  • LB Mack Wilson

Hunt and Hill were dealing with injuries when they were placed on the COVID list so their returns to the field for this week are more up in the air.

The team also placed LB Elijah Lee on the reserve/COVID-19 list while taking S Nate Meadors off the practice squad/COVID-19 list.

The Browns still have a few key players on the list as of Monday:

  • C J.C. Tretter
  • CB Greg Newsome II
  • OL Alex Taylor
  • K Chase McLaughlin
  • DT Jordan Elliott
  • LB Tony Fields

Nick Harris played well in Tretter’s place but against the Steelers the veteran’s presence could be missed. Newsome has played well as a rookie but getting Hill back at least helps the cornerback room. McLaughlin’s struggles have been frustrating all season but Chris Naggar’s miss Saturday was a huge part of the team’s struggles as they chased points.

We will keep you updated on all roster moves as they come in advance of the key Week 17 matchup with Pittsburgh.

Browns place OT Alex Taylor on reserve/COVID-19 list

Another one to the reserve/COVID-19 list for the Browns the day after their game:

The Cleveland Browns and the NFL had hoped that they were able to move forward from the COVID-19 related roster problems after adjusting protocols. Instead, hundreds of players have been placed on their teams’ respective reserve/COVID-19 lists over the last week.

The impact for the Browns was huge in back-to-back weeks. The team fell to the Las Vegas Raiders with more starters on the list than playing in Week 15 then lost to the Green Bay Packers with quite a few starters out as well.

The reserve/COVID-19 list continues to change for the team even after their Saturday loss to the Packers. Alex Taylor, signed to the roster to help replace offensive linemen that were on the COVID list, was placed on the list Sunday by the Browns.

With the hope that Jedrick Wills could come off the list soon, Taylor could be waived and brought back to the practice squad when he comes off the list but leaves the team thin on the line until Wills. J.C. Tretter joined the reserve/COVID-19 list late last week and could miss the upcoming game as well.

We will keep you up to date over this holiday weekend for all roster-related news.

Browns CB Greg Newsome II added to Browns reserve/COVID-19 list

Aaron Rodgers is looking to break the Packers passing TD record and will face Ward, Williams and a lot of backups/practice squad guys on Christmas Day:

Despite a lot of hope that the Cleveland Browns could move on from the COVID-19 issues that were a big part of their Week 15 loss, the hits keep coming for the team. After releasing punter Jamie Gillan, who was still on the reserve/COVID-19 list as of Wednesday morning, the team is adding rookie cornerback Greg Newsome II onto the list, among other moves.

Newsome has missed the last two games due to a concussion but there was heightened expectations that he could return this week. With the new COVID-19 protocols, Newsome has a chance to return sooner than in the past but, as seen in Week 15, that did not happen for many players.

Monday, Newsome voiced his displeasure at “fake fans” turning on Donovan Peoples-Jones during Monday’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

With Newsome unlikely to play Christmas day and Troy Hill both injured and on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Cleveland secondary will once again be down to many backups. A.J. Green is also on the reserve/COVID-19 list. This week, those backups face Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams and the rest of the Green Bay Packers passing attack.

Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams will likely start again on the outside with M.J. Stewart getting the primary nickelback role inside. Brian Allen and Herb Miller could be elevated off the practice squad to fill out the cornerback depth chart.

Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum not cleared, Nick Mullens set to start at QB vs. Raiders

Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum are not able to play vs. Raiders due to COVID-19 testing results, Nick Mullens will start at QB

The two-day delay in the game time between the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders helped the Browns get a few players back from their rampant COVID-19 outbreak. Alas, the top two quarterbacks on the roster are not among those who will return.

Both starter Baker Mayfield and backup Case Keenum did not test out of the NFL’s modified COVID-19 protocols on Monday morning, per numerous reports. That means they will not play against the Raiders on Monday afternoon.

In their place, veteran Nick Mullens will get his first start in a Browns uniform. Mullens does have some NFL starting experience from his three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He went 5-11 in those starts in 2018 and 2020, completing 64.5% of his passes with 24 TDs and 22 INTs.

Browns gain Teller, lose Clowney and make two other roster moves Sunday

Just like yesterday, one on and one off the COVID list and a couple of other roster moves for the Browns:

While most of the rest of the NFL prepare for games on Sunday, the Cleveland Browns continue to prepare for their Monday Afternoon Football (MAF?) game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The ever-moving roster process has until Monday at 2 PM to activate players off the reserve/COVID-19 list. They could also be adding players on after tests tomorrow.

The NFL and NFLPA agreed to new testing rules but those don’t take place until Week 15 ends. The Browns are doing everything they can to keep Myles Garrett from joining the large number of players on the COVID list by isolating him this week.

His bookend, Jadeveon Clowney, was not so lucky as to avoid the list. As reported earlier this week, Clowney was expected to go on the reserve list Friday. Instead, both Friday’s and Saturday’s official transaction lists came and went with no Clowney. That changed on Sunday with the team placing him officially on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Not all bad news for Cleveland on that front as Wyatt Teller was activated from the list on Sunday joining Takk McKinley, Anthony Walker and David Njoku as returning over the last few days.

The team is still hopeful of getting more players back tomorrow in advance of the 2 PM deadline.

The team also signed offensive tackle Alex Taylor to their active roster to give them more depth with Jedrick Wills and James Hudson III on the reserve list. They also added safety Adrian Colbert to their practice squad. Colbert played in San Fransisco with defensive coordinator Joe Woods and has started 22 games for his career.

More moves are expected tomorrow before the team can set their roster and prepare for the game.
