Saints-Commanders coverage will draw a lot of eyes in Week 15

The New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders matchup will garner a decently-sized broadcast this week, despite not being the primary matchup:

The New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders matchup in Week 15 will draw a decently-sized broadcast, however, it will not be the primary game in the FOX early time slot this week. Last week, the Saints and Giants game was restricted pretty much exclusively to their own markets and nowhere else, and this week it is slightly expanded, but still somewhat in a small region compared to some other games.

Of the early games, the matchup most of the nation will see is the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers. Why? We do not know. The other two early FOX games will stick to their respective regions with the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the Tennessee Titans, and the New York Jets taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Saints and Commanders game however will have decent chunks of media coverage, including all of Louisiana, most of Georgia and Mississippi, and then a large section across Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Additionally, there is a small little blip of coverage in South Bend, Ind. which will also receive this game broadcast.

Here is the full map, with the key for which game each color indicates:

Week 13 broadcast map: Will your station carry Saints vs. Rams?

The Week 13 broadcast map has been released, will you be able to view Saints vs. Rams in your area?

The New Orleans Saints are back from their bye week and are now looking to extend their winning streak to three games under Darren Rizzi against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13.

According to the 506 Sports broadcast map, this game will only be carried in relatively limited areas, including Louisiana and some of the surrounding region, the southern half of California, a thin line of the central United States from Indianapolis to Washington D.C., and then a small portion of New England in eastern Massachusetts, all of Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire/Vermont.

FOX will carry this broadcast, however much of the United States will instead be receiving the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings, which surrounds nearly every region that has the Saints and Rams matchup.

This matchup is set to kick off at 3:05 p.m. CT/4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday in the Caesars Superdome. These two teams have not met since Week 16 of the 2023 season, and will get the chance to have at it again this year after missing a few seasons of matchups in 2020 and 2021.

Week 4 NFL broadcast maps: Will your station carry Saints vs. Falcons?

After being in two of the most-visible games in Week 2 and Week 3, the Saints’ next matchup with the Falcons will have a much smaller broadcast range:

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are both coming off devastating losses where the game was within reach until the last possession. Both teams will be looking for a bounce-back performance.

But the Saints take a slight step down in visibility this week. The reach of the broadcast is limited by FOX not having a double header in Week 4. The majority of the country is watching the San Francisco 49ers versus New England Patriots game at 3:25 p.m. CT.

Though it’s a late game that won’t overlap with the Saints game, the station can only show one game on Sunday, regardless of the time slot. This means the game will be shown from Louisiana to Georgia and some of the surrounding areas, according to 506 Sports.

The Saints and Falcons is a great rivalry that flies under the radar at times, so in ways it’s appropriate the game is a local show. The Saints have dominated this series as of recent and are looking to carry that tradition on.

Coverage of this week’s game is reflected in green on this map from 506 Sports. See if you’ll catch the broadcast from your local FOX affiliate station:

Chiefs DB Jaylen Watson showed off sticky coverage vs Ravens

#Chiefs DB Jaylen Watson showed off his exceptional coverage ability in Kansas City’s Week 1 win over the Baltimore #Ravens.

Jaylen Watson has been a standout for the Kansas City Chiefs at the cornerback position since being drafted in 2022, and he put together a stellar showing against the Baltimore Ravens last week.

After being placed on the physically injured list over the summer and missing this preseason, Watson returned to the field last Thursday and helped keep reigning MVP Lamar Jackson in check.

Though the overall performance of Kansas City’s defense was a group effort, the sticky coverage that Watson played against Baltimore’s receivers was a huge advantage for Steve Spagnuolo.

The Chiefs’ official Twitter account posted footage of one pass defended by Watson against Baltimore, which he capably swatted away just in time to end one of the Ravens’ drives in the third quarter.

Kansas City’s quest to complete an ever-elusive three-peat will continue on Sunday when the Chiefs face off against the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost to the New England Patriots in Week 1.

Saints cornerbacks highlighted for their sticky coverage by PFF

Marshon Lattimore and Isaac Yiadom had some of the stickiest coverage among all cornerbacks last year by these three metrics at Pro Football Focus:

New Orleans Saints lead cornerback Marshon Lattimore and his former teammate Isaac Yiadom received recognition from Pro Football Focus for their tight coverage in 2023. PFF’s Jim Wyman highlighted the 10 best cornerbacks in these three categories: tight coverage, step of separation, and open targets.

Yiadom was the only cornerback in the NFL to place top-10 in each category. It’s no surprise he left New Orleans for a higher-ceiling opportunity with the San Francisco 49ers. His best finish came in open target percentage. He was the sixth-best cornerback, allowing an open target only 28.3% of the time.

Lattimore made an appearance on the step of separation top-10 list that included 16 players. Lattimore was a part of a six-man tie for 10th place. He, along with Yiadom, allowed a step of separation on just 25% of targets.

While Yiadom is in San Francisco now, he represented the depth of the secondary last season. The Saints’ secondary remains strong heading into 2024. Lattimore is still a New Orleans Saint and forms a formidable starting cornerback tandem along with Paulson Adebo. And that’s without getting into the contributions Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry can offer to the unit.

PFF highlights Chiefs LB Nick Bolton’s special performance vs. Dolphins

Pro Football Focus highlighted Nick Bolton’s special performance in the #Chiefs’ win over the Dolphins on Saturday night.

Veteran linebacker Nick Bolton has been a rock for the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense since joining the team as a second-round pick in 2021. His performance against the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the AFC playoffs was impressive and helped lead Kansas City to its first win of the postseason as the Chiefs endeavor to defend their Super Bowl LVII title.

Bolton, usually known for his tackling prowess, put together an excellent showing in pass coverage against Miami, allowing just 29 yards on eight targets on Saturday night.

Few players have made more of an impact for Kansas City than Bolton this season, and his outstanding execution against the Dolphins is yet another feather in his cap ahead of the Chiefs’ next playoff matchup.

Expect Bolton to continue dominating Kansas City’s opponents as the Chiefs look to keep building momentum in search of a Super Bowl berth in February.

Rife with playoff implications, Saints-Falcons is drawing a lot of attention in Week 18

Rife with playoff implications, Sunday’s Saints-Falcons matchup is drawing a lot of attention in Week 18. Will your local TV station have the game?

We’ve got a heated rivalry game in Week 18, with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons matching up and a lot on the line. This could be the last game of the 2023 season for either team with a loss. Long-shot playoff implications, coaches on the hot seat, and decades-old bragging rights are all at stake. They’re playing for more than their pride.

And it’s a game rife with playoff implications. Five teams are still in contention for the final wild-card seed, including the Saints and Falcons — but fans of the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings will be tuning in. So will Los Angeles Rams fans, who could end up being the sixth or seventh seed depending on other games’ results. Dallas Cowboys faithful are going to be watching, too, seeing as they’ll likely be hosting the seventh-seed team.

That’s why coverage is so fragmented for the Saints-Falcons matchup. In addition to both teams’ home markets in the Gulf South, CBS affiliate stations in each of those playoff teams’ locales will  be carrying the game. Check the broadcast map from 506 Sports embedded below:

FOX’s Saints-Panthers broadcast coverage is limited in Week 14

FOX’s Saints-Panthers TV broadcast coverage is limited to each team’s home market in Week 14:

The latest round of NFL broadcast maps are live from 506 Sports, and it’s looking like the New Orleans Saints are in for limited television coverage this week. Only FOX affiliate stations in the home markets for the Saints and Carolina Panthers are carrying the game.

It isn’t like this is a crowded viewing window (kickoff is scheduled for Noon CT/1 p.m. ET) with two other games competing on FOX in the early-afternoon slate. But it’s tough to imagine stations around the country are lining up for a game between a Saints team that’s lost three in a row and a one-win Panthers squad.

Will your local station have the game? Check the areas marked in yellow on the map embedded below:

There aren’t a ton of fireworks in the forecast for Week 5’s matchup between the New Orleans Saints (2-2) and New England Patriots (1-3) which has the look of a tough game between two defense-first teams. But will your local CBS station carry the broadcast?

This week’s broadcast will be shown in each team’s home market: meaning Saints fans in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and large parts of of North Carolina, Florida, and Arkansas will be tuning in. So will Patriots fans in most of the Northeast: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, plus most of New York and New Jersey.

If you’d like a visual, reference, check this broadcast map from 506 Sports. Markets in blue will carry the Saints-Patriots game, while those in green will feature the Tennessee Titans-Indianapolis Colts divisional rivalry game. But much of the country will see the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers (marked in red) continue their storied feud:
