Chiefs elevate two players from practice squad for Week 13 vs. Bengals

The #Chiefs have officially elevated two players from the practice squad for Week 13’s game vs. the #Bengals.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a pair of practice squad elevations ahead of their Week 13 away game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to the NFL’s personnel notice for Saturday, the Chiefs have used a standard elevation on both practice squad WR Cornell Powell and DB Zayne Anderson. This is the third consecutive standard elevation for Powell and the second consecutive for Anderson. Both players have now hit the three-standard elevation limit for the regular season.

Powell has provided Kansas City with depth while Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman have been injured, but the majority of his snaps have come on special teams. Anderson was elevated a week ago to serve as depth with Juan Thornhill inactive with a calf injury. This elevation could indicate the team’s plans for Deon Bush, who is listed as questionable to play in Week 13 due to an elbow injury.

Chiefs elevate two players from practice squad for Week 12 vs. Rams

The #Chiefs have officially elevated two players from the practice squad for Week 12’s game vs. the #Rams.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a pair of practice squad promotions ahead of their Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

According to the NFL’s personnel notice, the Chiefs have used a standard elevation on both practice squad WR Cornell Powell and DB Zayne Anderson. This is the second consecutive week where Powell has been elevated from the practice squad, filling in for injured CB Chris Lammons on special teams. He also had one snap on offense last week and could prove to be a key depth piece on offense with Kadarius Toney declared out.

Why would they go with Powell over Marcus Kemp? Kemp is officially out of practice squad elevations after his third elevation a week ago. If the Chiefs do use a standard elevation on him, he’ll be required to clear waivers before returning to the practice squad.

As for Anderson, this is the second time that he has been elevated from the practice squad this season, but the first time since Week 6’s game against the Buffalo Bills. His elevation serves as an indication that the Chiefs will be without S Juan Thornhill, who is listed as questionable for the game with a calf injury. Anderson is unlikely to play snaps on defense without another injury. However, with Bryan Cook likely to get his first career start on defense in Thornhill’s place, Anderson should get a lot of work on special teams against the Rams in Week 12.

Chiefs elevate two practice squad receivers for Week 11 vs. Chargers

The #Chiefs have officially elevated two receivers from the practice squad for Week 11’s game vs. the #Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a practice squad promotion(s) ahead of their Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on “Sunday Night Football.”

According to the NFL’s personnel notice, the Chiefs have used a standard elevation on practice squad WRs Marcus Kemp and Cornell Powell. This comes as the team is dealing with some attrition at the receiver position. Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster are both out this week, leaving Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore as the team’s lone receivers on the active roster. Kemp and Powell will give them six players at the position on Sunday.

This is the third practice squad elevation this season for Kemp, which means the team can no longer use a standard elevation on him without the team risking losing him on waivers. This is the first time that Powell, a former 2021 fifth-round draft pick, has been activated to the 53-man roster this season.

Andy Reid mentioned Kemp as a possibility for a call-up during media availability this week. With the injuries to Hardman and Smith-Schuster, Kemp could actually see some snaps on offense this week. Since 2017, Kemp has appeared in 45 games for Kansas City, playing 125 snaps on offense. He’s caught four passes on eight targets for 42 yards during those snaps. Powell hasn’t seen much action on offense or special teams for the Chiefs, but he could see work in both phases on Sunday night.

Another roster note: The Chiefs did not activate OT Lucas Niang to the 53-man roster yet. They’ll have until next Wednesday to decide on whether they’ll activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing Cornell Powell, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

A fifth-round pick (181st overall) by the Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft, Powell was waived by Kansas City after training camp last year but then brought back as a member of the Chiefs’ practice squad, where he spent all of last season. He recorded four receptions for 34 yards in the preseason last year and had eight receptions for 51 yards in three preseason games this year.

Powell had a breakout campaign as a fifth-year senior at Clemson in 2020, starting all 12 games while hauling in 53 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns.

A former Clemson wide receiver is reportedly having a strong training camp as he eyes a spot on his NFL team’s roster.

Cornell Powell of the Kansas City Chiefs has been making plays in camp and continued to perform well in practices this week, according to Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen.

Here’s what McMullen wrote about Powell in his Training Camp Observations notebook from the Chiefs’ practice on Thursday, via Chiefs.com:

Powell has put together a strong overall body of work during this year’s camp as he aims to earn a roster spot this season. That solid effort continued during Thursday’s practice, as Powell made several catches – two of which were physical grabs over the middle – during both team and 7-on-7 drills. It completed what turned out to be a big week for Powell, who hauled in multiple leaping, full-extension catches during Monday’s practice.

He’ll need to maintain that performance through the preseason, but this camp has certainly been a positive for the former fifth-round pick.

4 takeaways from Day 8 of Chiefs training camp

Here are some of the things we learned from the #Chiefs’ latest training camp practice:

The Kansas City Chiefs held their last training camp practice of the week on Thursday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. They’ll pick things up again on Saturday as they begin game-prep for Week 1 of the preseason against the Chicago Bears.

This practice was one of Andy Reid’s traditional 10-10-10 practices, which are typically shorter, quicker and lighter work. The team rotated through sets of 11-on-11 team drills, with 10 plays on offense, 10 plays on defense, and 10 plays on special teams. Overall, it seemed to be a good end to the practice week with some explosive plays and good competition on both sides of the ball.

Here are a few of the things we learned during the course of the team’s eighth practice:

Madden 23 ratings for every former Clemson player in the NFL

Madden 23 player rankings are here, which means over 30 former Tigers get to see how EA Sports rates their talent.

Since its first game in 1988, Madden has been one of the most famous and long-lasting video game franchises, allowing fans to play as NFL teams and players virtually.

Over the last few years, Madden overalls have become a topic of debate, as EA Sports rates certain players and teams much higher or lower than fans expected.

Set to release on Aug. 19, Madden 23 will feature over 30 former Clemson players that are now in the NFL, many of which received overall ratings that fans may consider to be inaccurate.

A handful of Tigers have not had their ratings released yet, such as offensive linemen Jackson Carman and Tremayne Anchrum.

Outside of those selected few, here are the Madden 23 ratings for each Tiger in the NFL, in order of overall.

Chiefs WR Cornell Powell got married over the weekend

Congrats to #Chiefs WR Cornell Powell!

Patrick Mahomes wasn’t the only player with happy news to share from the past weekend.

Players often use the time between mandatory minicamp and training camp to take care of important business. That’s exactly what Kansas City Chiefs WR Cornell Powell did over the weekend.

Powell and fiancee Kyndall Ellis were married on Saturday, June 25th in a beautiful ceremony and celebration. Powell proposed back in March of 2021, so this special day had been in the works for the happy couple for a while.

They had an adorable wedding hashtag: #ThePowellCouple

Both Powell and Ellis attended Clemson together. They were joined by several of Powell’s former Clemson teammates including Cardinals LB Isaiah Simmons, Packers WR Amari Rodgers and Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence.

Watch: First look at Justyn Ross at Chiefs camp

Former Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross has arrived at NFL camp for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Five days after former Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, we have gotten the first glimpse of him at Chiefs camp.

Despite being declared as a first-round talent as a freshman, Ross ultimately went undrafted due to injury concerns. Still, he led the Tigers in receiving last season with 514 yards and three touchdowns on 46 receptions.

In his three years on the field with the Tigers, Ross caught 158 passes for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns. He now will attempt to make Kansas City’s roster, which has a history of developing young wide receivers, such as Tyreek Hill, into stars. Ross also joins former Clemson wide receiver Cornell Powell, who Kansas City drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here’s the first glimpse of Ross at Kansas City’s camp.
