Ohio State basketball vs. Cornell: How to watch, stream the NIT

Ohio State hosts Cornell in the first-round of the NIT. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team has been fun to watch since Jake Diebler took over the program. While the Buckeyes came up just a bit short in their bid to get into the NCAA Tournament, the team did get an invite to the NIT as a No. 2 seed. That means Ohio State gets to host the first-round game against Cornell out of the Ivy League.

The Big Red have an overall record of 22-7 and finished tied second in the conference, but lost to eventual conference champ Yale in the Ivy League Tournament.

Time to get ready for some bonus basketball!

Ivy League transfer has Penn State in his top five

One of the top offensive linemen in the transfer portal has Penn State in his top 5

One of the big items on the offseason checklist for Penn State is beefing up its offensive line. And one of the biggest offensive linemen recruits in the NCAA transfer portal has Penn State in the running.

Hunter Nourzad, a second-team All-American during the 2021 season with Cornell, has listed Penn State in his top five schools. Nourzad announced his top five — which also includes Virginia Tech, Auburn, Iowa, and Illinois — with a graphic on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon. Nourzad has had plenty of offers come his way, including one from Michigan State.

The Georgia native would be a tremendous addition to the Penn State offensive line in 2022 as the Nittany Lions look to improve their ability to run the football, which starts with improving the stability of the offensive line.

Penn State extended an offer to Nourzad back in December with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein attempting to land the Cornell transfer. If Penn State is able to land the commitment of Nourzad, who has not established a timeline for making a transfer decision as of yet, it would be the second straight year Penn State has landed a commitment through the transfer portal from the Ivy League to plug a spot on the offensive line. Penn State added Eric Wilson from Harvard last year.

Penn State basketball ties program record for threes in win over Cornell

Sam Sessoms and Seth Lundy were on fire from three-point range in a Penn State win over Cornell

Monday night was anything but easy for the Penn State men’s basketball team but a big night beyond the three-point line helped lead Penn State to a victory over previously undefeated Cornell. Penn State had a tough battle with the Big red all night long but the Nittany Lions improved to 3-1 on the season with an 85-74 victory over Cornell on Monday evening in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Penn State tied a program record for the most three-point shots in a single game, 15, with Sam Sessoms and Seth Lundy combining forces to drain 11 of those shots beyond the arc. Sessoms was 6-of-7 from three-point range and Lundy was 5-of-8.

Lundy led the Nittany Lions with a 23-point effort and John Harrar had a game-high 12 rebounds as he continues to pull down boards for the Nittany Lions.

“I told our guys as we were getting ready for this game that this was going to be a challenge, watching these guys on film and watching how they played,” Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry said in his postgame media session. “Cornell played at the highest pace in the country going into this game and they got eight transition points and that’s kudos to our effort. Our guys focused in terms of how they were going to guard them and I proud of our effort tonight.”

Cornell jumped on Penn State early and proved to be a real threat to a Penn State team still working to form a true identity. Cornell moved the ball well and took advantage of a slow start by the Nittany Lions at home, but Penn State hung tough and eventually found the shots that worked for them. Penn State’s defense came up in big spots too, especially in the second half as Penn State was working to put the game away.

Penn State now heads south to continue to play in the Emerald Coast Classic. Next up for the Nittany Lions is a matchup with the LSU Tigers in Niceville, Florida on Friday. LSU is off to a 5-0 start this season following its latest victory over Belmont on Monday night. LSU has yet to give up 60 points in a game this season, so Penn State will have to find a way to get some offense against the Tigers.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 26. The game can be seen on CBS Sports Network.

Penn State basketball is a big favorite against Cornell

Penn State men’s basketball is a big favorite at home against Cornell according to Tipico.

Penn State men’s basketball continues their home schedule Monday evening in the second game of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Nittany Lions host Cornell before the early-season tournament shifts to Florida after Thanksgiving later this week, and Penn State is hoping to remain undefeated at home in the Bryce Jordan Center. And according to the line for the game on Monday, it appears Penn State is expected to do just that.

According to Tipico, Penn State is 15.5-point favorite against the Big Red on Monday. The moneyline is even more heavily weighted in Penn State’s favor, as you might expect given the wide point spread on the game.

Cornell is coming into the game with a 4-0 record, including a massive blowout of a Division 3 Wells College Express in their last game. Penn State will be the best opponent the Ivy League school has faced so far. The only loss suffered by Penn State so far came in its second game of the season, at UMass. Penn State won its opening game in the Emerald Coast Classic at home against Saint Francis Brooklyn last week.

Penn State-Cornell odds from Tipico

  • Penn State: -15.5 (-110)
  • Cornell: +14.5 (-110)
  • Penn State moneyline: -2000
  • Cornell moneyline: +900
  • Over 139.5: -115
  • Under 139.5: -115

On the football field this week, Penn State has been listed as a slight underdog on the road against Michigan State. According to Tipico, Penn State is opening as a 1.5-point underdog against the Spartans in the final game of the regular season this weekend.

Ohio State Wrestling bounces back with win over Cornell

The Ohio State Buckeyes wrestling team picked up a much-needed bounce-back win after losing to Virginia Tech last week.

The Ohio State Buckeyes wrestling team needed a good performance, coming off a surprising and disappointing loss against Virginia Tech two weeks ago. The team got exactly that this weekend, beating Cornell 23-9, though there is still work to be done if it wants to contend for a national title.

The Buckeyes still have two No. 1 wrestlers in their weight classes, with Luke Pletcher at 141 pounds and Kollin Moore at 197 pounds. Neither has lost yet this year, and both pulled out strong wins on Sunday, with Moore’s coming as a Major Decision. Pletcher, as he is wont to do, kept the score tight, but he was never in danger of losing to Cornell’s Noah Baughman.

Sammy Sasso bounced back from his shocking pin against Virginia Tech to dominate Hunter Richard. The final score was a very close 12-9 as it seemed like Sasso just ran out of gas in the final minutes of his match. He will likely have to work on conditioning as the season goes on, or maybe it was just a bad day. We will find out more at the Cliff Keen Invitational this coming weekend, when Sasso will likely have to face multiple talented wrestlers on the same day.

Kaleb Romero looks to have the Buckeyes established at 174 pounds, and he silenced the doubters with a big win over Top 15 foe Brandon Womach. Romero pulled out a late takedown to break a 4-4 tie and win the match. Malik Heinselman (125 pounds) and Ethan Smith (165) were both pretty impressive in wins, and used matches against weaker opponents to work on getting bonus points.

The Buckeyes still have some real holes that need to be filled, though. No one has yet stepped up at 157 or 184 pounds. There are decent options at the first, but unless Gavin Hoffman or Zach Steiner improves, 184 pounds will be a real weakness in Ohio State’s lineup this year. The Buckeyes haven’t quite had enough individuals in the National Championship hunt to take the team competition from Penn State the past few years, but have been the most competitive top-to-bottom in all ten weight classes. Unless there’s a fix at 184 pounds soon, though, that streak may come to an end.
