Watch former Cor’Dale Flott break up a pass to Malik Nabers at Giants training camp

The former LSU teammates are joining forces once more with the New York Giants.

[autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag], the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft out of LSU, is impressing so far at New York Giants training camp.

But when Nabers ran up against his former LSU teammate [autotag]Cor’Dale Flott[/autotag] during drills on Friday, it was the NFL veteran that got the better of the rookie as Flott managed to break up a pass that was underthrown to Nabers, who had a slight lead on Flott with his route.

“(Cor’Dale) Flott made a good play recovering,” Nabers said per Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic. “It’s just what practice is for. Me and Flott, since LSU days, we’re going to compete. Just got to hit those next time. Going to try my best to make those plays when I’m out there.”

Flott was a third-round pick for the Giants back in 2022, and he has appeared in 25 games over the last two seasons while starting 13 of them. Now, he’ll be going up against his former teammate every day in practice as the two look to improve together.

Giants reveal current pecking order for starting CBs

If the Giants season started today, Cor’Dale Flott and Tae Banks would be CB1 and CB2.

As New York Giants organized team activities continue this week, we’re getting more information about what this team might look like this fall.

The Giants made a variety of changes this offseason and the players are hard at work earning their spots. On defense, the youth at cornerback is stepping up.

Defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson revealed that if the season started today, cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott would be CB1 and CB2, respectively.

Flott was drafted by the Giants in 2022 and is entering his third season. Over his first two seasons, his name hasn’t been mentioned often, but he has recorded 62 tackles (40 solo), two forced fumbles, one interception and seven passes defensed.

Banks was drafted by the Giants in 2023. Last season he recorded 64 tackles (53 solo), two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, and two stuffs. His production in 2023 surpasses that of Flott’s two years combined, which is why he would be considered CB1.

However, the season doesn’t start today and there’s a lot of work left to do before it does.

Don’t let their youth put you off; these two are already fighting for their spots and that will translate into solid in-game action, even if they don’t keep the starting positions. Players pushing each other is how they get better, and it’s clear that these two are ready to keep pushing.

Giants will give Cor’Dale Flott opportunity to win CB2 job

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is “confident” in Cor’Dale Flott, who will have the opportunity to win the CB2 job.

The New York Giants selected Kentucky defensive back Andru Phillips in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft to bolster their secondary, which is in flux after cutting ties with Adoree’ Jackson and Xavier McKinney.

Phillips is more suited for the slot and the nickel than he is out on the boundary, a situation head coach Brian Daboll touched upon during his Saturday media session at the team’s second day of rookie minicamp.

The Giants were in need of an outside corner and Phillips could help by forcing the team to play him in the slot and move Cor’Dale Flott to the boundary.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence in Flott,” Daboll told reporters.

He then explained how the ‘nickel’ corner has become almost a permanent role on many defenses rather than a sub-package one.

“The game is mostly 11 personnel. There’s some that people run some other, but heavy, heavy 11. I would say heavy sub on defense, almost three-quarters of the game for the most part is played that way,” he said. “It’s a hybrid position. You have to be able to do a good job in the run fits, you’ve got to be able to cover man-to-man, tackle well, be physical. It’s a very important position.”

Phillips is perfect for the nickel role while Flott, who is taller with more length, can make the shift outside with more ease. Phillips is also a more physical player who can help with tight ends and the run.

There are so many coaches that play multiple receivers that you need to be able to match that on the defensive side.

Giants injury report: Darren Waller designated to return from IR

The New York Giants have designated TE Darren Waller to return from injured reserve (IR) and he could play on Sunday vs. New Orleans.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Thursday — their first full practice of the week — and the first order of business was a significant one.

Just prior to taking the field, the team announced that tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) had been designated to return from injured reserve (IR). If all goes well, he could see a few snaps on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Waller indicated on Wednesday that he was close to a return but was just awaiting the green light from trainers.

In other positive news, every single player on the active roster participated on at least a limited basis for the second straight day. All have a chance to play in Week 15 — right tackle Evan Neal included.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: N/A

Limited participant: OL Evan Neal (ankle), CB Cor’Dale Flott (shoulder), NT Dexter Lawrence (hamstring), DL A’Shawn Robinson (hamstring/finger), LB Isaiah Simmons (ankle), TE Darren Waller (hamstring)

Full participant: WR Parris Campbell (knee), LB Azeez Ojulari (shoulder)

Giants injury report: Evan Neal returns to practice

New York Giants RT Evan Neal returned to practice on Wednesday, while four others, including NT Dexter Lawrence, were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday following a stunning Week 14 upset of the Green Bay Packers.

Given that the Giants played on Monday night, they were limited to a walkthrough on Wednesday. They will have full practices on both Thursday and Friday before traveling down to New Orleans on Saturday.

The positive news opening Week 15 is that the team sustained no new injuries against Green Bay. Everyone on the active roster, right tackle Evan Neal included, participated in the walkthrough on at least a limited basis.

Unfortunately, there was also some negative news.

Daboll revealed that the 21-day window for tight end Darren Waller, who is currently on injured reserve (IR), was not opened. He did not practice on Wednesday and seems unlikely to play on Sunday against the Saints unless there is a drastic change in 24 hours.

“We’ll see where we’re at here, making progress. Getting closer,” Daboll said of Waller.

The Giants’ full (projected) Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: N/A

Limited participant: OL Evan Neal (ankle), CB Cor’Dale Flott (shoulder), NT Dexter Lawrence (hamstring), LB Azeez Ojulari (shoulder), DL A’Shawn Robinson (hamstring/finger)

Full participant: WR Parris Campbell (knee)

Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 14 win vs. Packers

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 24-22 win for the New York Giants against the Green Bay Packers in Week 14.

The New York Giants rallied with under 2:00 remaining on Monday night to defeat the Green Bay Packers, 24-22, in a game that kept their NFC Playoff hopes very much alive.

Now at 5-8, the Giants are just one game back of the final wildcard spot with two teams — New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams — ahead of them remaining on the schedule.

Who could have seen all this coming just one month ago?

Here is a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 14 victory.

Giants injury report: Kayvon Thibodeaux, Jalin Hyatt making progress

New York Giants LB Kayvon Thibodeaux and rookie WR Jalin Hyatt took a step forward in concussion protocol and could play in Week 11.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Thursday and they made a few positive strides from the day prior.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence returned from his veteran rest day, while both linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt took a step forward in concussion protocol. They were limited and have a chance to play on Sunday.

The same could not be said for veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who did not participate for the second straight day and is unlikely to suit up against the Washington Commanders.

Meanwhile, linebacker Azeez Ojulari was listed as limited with yet another new injury.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Evan Neal (ankle), CB Adoree’ Jackson (concussion)

Limited participant: CB Deonte Banks (ankle), RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), CB Cor’Dale Flott (shoulder), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), OL Andrew Thomas (knee), WR Jalin Hyatt (concussion), LB Kayvon Thibodeaux (concussion), LB Bobby Okereke (hip), LB Azeez Ojulari (ankle)

Giants injury report: Kayvon Thibodeaux, 2 others in concussion protocol

New York Giants LB Kayvon Thibodeaux and rookie WR Jalin Hyatt were among a trio who missed practice on Wednesday due to concussions.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday ahead of a Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

After getting a little banged up in a 49-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week, all eyes were on rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito. He was a limited participant and head coach Brian Daboll announced that he will start on Sunday.

“I think he’s a good, young quarterback to work with, so you know, try to improve him this week from last week,” Daboll said.

On the downside of things, rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux joined veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson in concussion protocol.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence also received his usual mid-week rest day.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: LB Bobby Okereke (hip), WR Jalin Hyatt (concussion), OL Evan Neal (ankle), OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (concussion), CB Adoree’ Jackson (concussion), NT Dexter Lawrence (rest)

Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 10 loss vs. Cowboys

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 49-17 loss for the New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.

The New York Giants were entirely non-competitive on Sunday, falling to the Dallas Cowboys, 49-17, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Things were ugly from the moment Big Blue took the field and they never got any prettier. In addition to being humiliated on the field, the Giants continued to humiliate themselves off of it thanks to in-fighting and sideline tantrums (more on that shortly).

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-8 on the season and are now tied with the New York Jets as the NFL’s most-losing franchise since 2017.

Here are a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 10 loss.

Giants injury report: Daniel Jones remains limited

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) remains limited in practice and is still not cleared for contract, leaving his Week 7 status in doubt.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Thursday and little had changed from the day prior. Quarterback Daniel Jones remains limited and was not cleared for contact.

“He’ll throw out here at practice, same as yesterday,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters. “Like I said yesterday, doctors will let me know when he’s ready to play.”

“When the doctors tell me he’s ready to play he’ll be ready to play,” Daboll repeated when asked again.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Shane Lemieux was placed on injured reserve (IR) with a torn biceps and five other linemen were at least limited in practice.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: LT Andrew Thomas (hamstring), OL John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), OL Matt Peart (shoulder)

Limited participant: QB Daniel Jones (neck), RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), K Graham Gano (knee), CB Adoree’ Jackson (neck), OL Evan Neal (ankle)

Full participant: RB Gary Brightwell (ankle), DL D.J. Davidson (knee), CB Tre Hawkins (knee), CB Cor’Dale Flott (ankle/shoulder), OL Mark Glowinski (quad/ankle), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee)
