Former UGA RB Thomas Brown ruptured achilles, plays it cool

Rams running back coach, Georgia great Thomas Brown ruptured his achilles and didn’t even flinch when walking off the field. Details here

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted on Friday that former Georgia running back Thomas Brown, now running backs coach for the Los Angeles Rams, recently ruptured his achilles in practice and then walked off the field as if nothing happened.

Brown is Georgia tough, a ruptured achilles is a serious injury and the fact that he walked off the field without even a flinch is impressive.

Brown rushed for 2,646 yards and 23 touchdowns during his time in Athens (2004-2007).

Brown has coached running backs across the country, including Wisconsin, Miami and Marshall.

He was most recently running backs coach at South Carolina before taking the job with the Rams this year

Make sure you’re caught up for the game of the year, No. 3 Georgia at No. 2 Alabama in a battle for king of the SEC.

We breakdown everything you need to know for the game in this week’s episode of the UGA Football Live podcast, featuring special guest Keith Marshall. Listen here:

What Tennessee media is saying about Georgia

No. 3 Georgia faces No. 14 Tennessee today in Athens at 3:30 p.m. Here is what the Vols media is saying about the Bulldogs.

It’s Saturday in Athens DawgNation!

The No. 3 Bulldogs are set to take on No. 14 Tennessee this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. on CBS Network if weather permits.

It’s been raining since last night and the forecast is calling for more precipitation with some scattered thunderstorms during gametime, according to weather.com.

That said, both these teams feature run-focused offenses that are prepared for a classic SEC battle and the rain makes it even more of a physical matchup.

Here is what Tennessee’s media is saying about Georgia ahead of the game.

Tennessee-Georgia ‘a chess match’ between undefeated teams – by Dan Harrelson – Vols Wire

“Not having Daniels or Newman playing has paved a way for 5-foot-11, 190-pound Stetson Bennett to become Georgia’s signal-caller. In wins against Arkansas and Auburn, Bennett is 37-of-57 for 451 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He has been sacked twice. Through the first two games, Monken has been able to run Air Raid concepts with Bennett, while maintaining a physical ground game.”

Here’s the 4-step formula for Tennessee football to beat Georgia – by Blake ToppmeyerKnoxville News Sentinel

“Turnover margin is one of the biggest factors in any game, but it’s proven to be especially telling against Georgia. In the Bulldogs’ seven losses since 2017, they’ve tallied 15 turnovers compared to three takeaways.”

The Cheat Sheet – by Brent Hubbs – Vol Quest

“Georgia has converted 13 of 25 third down tries in the two match ups against Jeremy Pruitt. Two years ago in Athens, Georgia dominated the Vols’ tired and undermanned defensive front by dominating time of possession.”

The good vs. the bad from Georgia’s season opening win at Arkansas

Georgia won its season opener at Arkansas 37-10. We breakdown what went wrong and what went right here.

After an abysmal first half where Georgia found itself down 7-2 at one point, the Bulldogs were able to find some rhythm and came back to beat Arkansas 37-10.

The resurgence was due, in part, to junior quarterback Stetson Bennett, who got the call when redshirt freshman D’Wan Mathis was pulled after just five drives.

Hear what former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had to say about the Dawgs’ quarterback play here:

Let’s break down the good versus the bad from UGA’s win in Fayetteville.

Which players stood out?

Game recap: Georgia fights back, beats Arkansas 37-10

Here’s the recap of Georgia’s win over Arkansas. We talk about the UGA quarterbacks and list some key stats of the game too!

Georgia recovers from an early deficit and beats Arkansas in Fayetteville 37-10.

Redshirt freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis started out the game at quarterback but struggled, prompting Georgia to turn to junior Stetson Bennett with USC transfer J.T. Daniels in question with a knee injury.

Bennett showed poise and led Georgia back from a five-point deficit, creating his own buzz in the Bulldog quarterback competition.

As far as the revamped offensive line, the Bulldogs’ front recovered from a slow start and began to push their way around the field.

Defensively, Georgia had a field-day. The Bulldogs racked up three interceptions, two by preseason All-American safety Richard LeCounte and stifled the Razorbacks’ ground game, allowing 77 rushing yards.

Here are the key stat lines from Georgia’s opener:

QB D’Wan Mathis : 8-17, 55 yards, 1 INT

QB Stetson Bennett: 20-29, 211 yards, 2 TD
RB Zamir White: 13 carries, 71 yards, 1 TD
WR Kearis  Jackson: 6 rec, 62 yards
UGA total offensive yards: 387 / Arkansas – 280
UGA passing yards: 266 / Arkansas – 203
UGA penalies : 12 for 108 yards / Arkansas – 10 for 53 yards

Watch: Zamir White scores his first tocudhown of the season in 3rd quarter vs Arkansas

Watch RB Zamir White scores his first touchdown of the 2020 season here!

This Georgia offense has finally come to life. The Bulldogs now lead 34-10 over Arkansas due to this run by redshirt freshman phenom Zamir White.

Watch it here:

Those cuts made by White are reminiscent of a D’Andre Swift or Todd Gurley.

So glad to see him healthy and running with conviction after fighting back from multiple knee injuries in his young career.

Let’s hope to see more runs like this moving forward, this offensive line is really getting some push now.

Zamir White run sets up Georgia’s first touchdown of 2020

Watch this clutch Georgia run that set up the first UGA touchdown of 2020!

After an awful start, the Georgia offense is finally on the board against Arkansas due to a great throw and catch between junior quarterback Stetson Bennett and star receiver George Pickens.

They can thank this run by redshirt freshman phenom Zamir White:

We are finally seeing the Bulldog offensive line create space for White and sophomore James Cook.

Let’s hope Bennett continues to show the poise he has and maybe hand a few more off like this to Zeus!

Georgia’s defense scores first points of 2020 season with safety vs Arkansas

Georgia has scored its first points of the 2020 season but not by a Zamir White run or George Pickens catch. UGA’s defense came through with a safety early in the second quarter to cut the Arkansas lead to 5. Watch it here: …

Georgia has scored its first points of the 2020 season but not by a Zamir White run or George Pickens catch.

UGA’s defense came through with a safety early in the second quarter to cut the Arkansas lead to 5.

Watch it here:

Redshirt freshman D’Wan Mathis has had a rough time so far and running back Zamir White only had two touches in the first quarter – we are going to need a lot more of this Bulldog offense to compete for the College Football Playoff.
