The offense still runs well, and there was a terrific balance against Georgia State last week, but it was a 42-40 loss helped by two turnovers. If that doesn’t seem like two giveaways for a high-powered team like this shouldn’t matter, it’s a bit wrong.

It’s been a rough year overall for Arkansas State with eight straight losses after opening with a win over Central Arkansas, but at least the air show was fun – and then it wasn’t.

The Red Wolves failed to hit 200 yards though the air – and couldn’t get to 225 yards overall – in ugly losses to South Alabama and Appalachian State, and then everything clicked with Layne Hatcher bombing away for 444 yards in the 27-24 win over ULM.

The Panthers have a whopping turnover margin of +8 over the five-game stretch. Meanwhile, Arkansas State has turned it over eight times in the last three games.

Georgia State got the win it needed to have to set up a wee bit of a breather over the last two weeks. It beat a Coastal Carolina team that didn’t have Grayson McCall, and now the Sun Belt title dreams are still on.

It needs Appalachian State to lose a few times, so more realistically, this is the game for the 5-5 Panthers to get bowl eligible – it doesn’t want to have to beat Troy next week.

UTSA’s lines have been fantastic.

As good as UAB has been overall, the offense hasn’t done a whole lot on the ground against the better defenses. It ripped through Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and Tulane, but it’s been a struggle to consistently get the O going.

UTSA has yet to allow over 150 rushing yards – giving up 90 yards per game on the ground – the offensive front is outstanding in pass protection, and there aren’t enough mistakes made to provide any openings.

Marshall can’t handle losing the turnover battle.

It was able to win the first two games of the year despite being on the wrong side of the stat, but it lost to East Carolina after giving the ball away three times, it was -4 against Middle Tennessee, and last week it was -1 against UAB. Against the teams that can hang around, that appears to be just that little bit of a difference.

Charlotte isn’t great in the turnover battle, but it’s usually able to keep things even.
