College Football Playoff committee ads five new members

The College Football Playoff announced the addition of five new members on Tuesday.

The new additions for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons are:

  • Boo Corrigan: NC State athletic director
  • Mitch Barnhart: Kentucky athletic director
  • Chris Del Conte: Texas athletic director.
  • Joe Taylor: Current athletic director at Virginia Union
  • Will Shields: Former All-American lineman at Nebraska

Members are given three-year terms by the CFP Management committee, which is made up of 10 FBS conference commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick.

The additions are replacing committee members Joe Castiglione, Ken Hatfield, Ronnie Lott and Todd Stansbury.

This year, the College Football Playoff will enter its eighth year as college football’s championship deciding work force.

Georgia football No. 4 in AP Top 25 Preseason poll

The Associated Press has released its AP Top 25 Preseason poll. Georgia football is No. 4, where is the rest of the SEC? Details here.

The Associated Press has released its annual college football preseason top 25 rankings.

Georgia comes in at No. 4 with Alabama at No. 3, Ohio State at No. 2 and Clemson at the No. 1 spot.

The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams ranked in the top 25, followed by the Big Ten with six.

The Big 12 is next with four, followed by both the ACC and Pac-12 with three and the American with two.

In regards to the Bulldog’s opponent rankings for the 2020 season:

  • Alabama (3)
  • Florida (8)
  • Auburn (11)
  • Tennessee (25)

Georgia football play of the day

It’s Thursday, July 23 and today’s play of the day comes from Georgia versus Florida in 1981.

The Bulldogs were down by two points early in the fourth quarter while trying to complete a 14-point come back. It was Georgia’s ball at the Gators’ 4-yard-line and Georgia tailback Herschel Walker took the Georgia power sweep off of left tackle, beating the Florida defense to the corner of the end zone for the score, giving Georgia the lead.

The Bulldogs would hold on to complete a 14-point comeback 26-21. Walker’s 47 carries were the most in a single game in his career at Georgia.
