Ohio State assistant James Laurinaitis ready to battle players in EA Sports College Football 25

Would you put money on him? #GoBucks

It’s been more than a few years since we’ve all been able to play a college football video game, but that’s nearing an end very soon on a game console and high definition television of your choice near you soon.

That’s because EA Sports is ready to bring all the fun back with College Football 25 in mid-July and seemingly everyone is excited about it. In fact, you can count former All-American linebacker and current Ohio State assistant, James Laurinaitis, in that camp as well. He’s ready to show some of the current OSU players what it takes to dominate virtually.

While discussing the upcoming season recently on the local ESPN affiliate in Columbus, 97.1 “The Fan,” the conversation turned to College Football 25 and Laurinaitis wasn’t shy about his video gaming skills and how he used to dominate during his playing days and his willingness to do the same when the chance arises in the near future.

“I’m sure they have (a PlayStation5) in the Woody,” Laurinaitis said the “Bishop and Friends” radio show. “We’ll get the game there. And then I’ll have to teach these young kids a lesson.”

There has already been a bit of an unusual vibe coming from the official trailer of the game, seemingly trolling Ohio State with Kyle McCord in a Syracuse jersey, a stiff-armed broken tackle by Michigan running back Donovan Edwards on OSU safety Lathan Ransom, and even Illinois hoisting the “Illibuck Trophy” despite not winning the game against the Buckeyes since 2007.

“I did mention something to Lathan. I’ll just say that,” Laurinaitis said. “I just said ‘Wow, man. Wow.’

Laurinaitis said he did have a little rivalry with former Buckeye linebacker and current Notre Dame head coach, Marcus Freeman, often getting the best of him and leaving him a bit salty while playing previous versions of the college football EA Sports game.

“Marcus used to get upset that my speed was better than his,” Laurinaitis said. “I was like, ‘Don’t blame me. Blame the nerd who made it.’ ” The Little Animal went on to say that he used “to destroy” Freeman when they played.

As far as current Buckeyes, Laurinaitis looks forward to showing the young kids how it’s done, even if he has lost sight of the NFL Madden franchise still played today.

“Guys like C.J. Hicks brag about their Madden skills,” Laurinaitis said. “I’m like, ‘Look dude, I don’t have time for Madden anymore. What are we talking about?’ But when it comes to NCAA, yeah, that might be (what I should do).”

As a reminder, EA Sports College Football 25 is set for release on July 19. It will be available on the Playstation 5 and XBox Series X\S.

Here’s how much money LSU made to appear in College Football 25

The Tigers received nearly $100,000 to appear in the game as a Tier 1 program.

After more than a decade hiatus, EA Sports is reviving its beloved college football video game franchise.

College Football 25 is set to release on July 19, and we’ve seen few details when it comes to what will be featured in the new game.

We do, however, know how much the LSU athletics department received to license itself in the game, thanks to a report from Matt Liberman of cllct. FOIA requests revealed schools were paid based on a tier system, which was determined based on the team’s finish in the AP Top 25 over the last 10 seasons.

As a Tier 1 school, LSU received the highest possible payout of $99,875.16.

Most of LSU’s starters have reportedly opted into the game, as well, though several players — mostly freshmen and transfers — have not.

We’ll have to wait and see how LSU is represented in the final game, but we now know the program made a nice chunk of change to appear in it.

Texas A&M’s Mike Elko discussed the downside of EA Sports’ College Football game with hilarious Call of Duty story

This isn’t the first time Mike Elko has had to talk to his players about video games.

College football fans are buzzing as we continue to get more details about College Football 25, the revival of EA Sports’ beloved franchise after more than a decade hiatus.

But it’s not just fans who are excited — the players who will be featured in the game are looking forward to its release, as well.

We all know college students love video games, and that doesn’t change just because they’re athletes. That means coaches have to prepare for the impending distraction, and this isn’t the first rodeo for new Texas A&M coach Mike Elko when it comes to video games.

Elko recently told a hilarious story about how a Call of Duty release impacted his team during his career as a defensive coordinator, causing players to miss meetings and practices because they stayed up too late playing the game.

“In full disclosure, because I’ve been a part of this before, you can’t imagine how much the release of a hot new video game can impact your football team,” Elko said, according to Travis L. Brown of The Eagle. “I remember going all the way back to when the second Call of Duty came out and it got released in October in the middle of one of our football seasons. We literally were having meetings with our defense about why it was not good to stay up until four in the morning playing Call of Duty. We had practice at 7 o’clock the next morning.”

Look, college kids are going to stay up late, whether it’s playing video games or doing something else. When they’re featured in the game and receive a free copy of it (in addition to $600 in compensation for opting in), they’re only going to be more inclined to do so.

But Elko raises an interesting — if hilarious — point about how coaches will need to prepare for the distraction as teams prepare for the season.

Find out what play Ohio State players will run first in EA Sports College Football 25

What play will you run first? #GoBucks

With more and more information coming out regarding [autotag]EA Sports[/autotag] return of its College Football video game, many pondered what play they will run first.

Some Ohio State football players were asked that exact question, and the answers were shared on the Buckeyes official social media account. It’s interesting what each player selected, some going with a triple-option, while others were going to run four verticals.

What they didn’t differ much on is that they would score on their first play, which most likely won’t be the case. We will find out the answer soon, as EA Sports has already begun taking preorders for the game.

As for what I’d run, it will most likely be a single-back formation with four receivers and a tight end, with the handoff going toward the weak side. It probably won’t score, but it will be a great feeling having the game back.

Did EA Sports troll Ohio State with College Football 25 trailer?

Does EA Sports hate Ohio State? #GoBucks

The new trailer for EA Sport’s College Football 25 dropped and it was gorgeous, but also insulting to Ohio State fans everywhere. We are already well aware that the Buckeyes have never had a cover athlete during the history of the game, (Quinshon Judkins doesn’t count as he is only in the background of this year’s version) but this trailer also did not showcase the Buckeyes in a positive light at all.

The trailer shows a Michigan player utilize a wicked stiff arm on an Ohio State defender for starters, then the trailer shows former Ohio State quarterback, Kyle McCord, in his new Syracuse Orange uniform. We also get to see the Illinois Fighting Illini hoist up the Illibuck Trophy, which goes to the winner of the Illinois-Ohio State game, which hasn’t been won by the Fighting Illini since 2007.

I can excuse never having a cover athlete, the stiff arm and the McCord appearance as all coincidences, but the Illibuck Trophy scene has me second guessing. Rumors are floating around on X (formerly Twitter) that some of the game developers are Michigan alumni, but again those are just rumors.

Clemson’s Walker Parks has a hilarious gripe with his appearance in the College Football 25 trailer

Walker Parks wasn’t a fan of his cameo in the new College Football 25 trailer.

Fans finally got their first look at some in-game footage of the upcoming College Football 25 — EA Sports’ reboot of the beloved video game series which last released in 2013 — on Friday.

The trailer didn’t show us full-on gameplay, but we got to see quite a bit in terms of the presentation, including licensed player models and unique traditions for a number of Power Four and Group of Five programs.

Most fans were thrilled to see their school’s cameo, but Clemson offensive lineman Walker Parks has a bone to pick with the developers.

Parks stands at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, but the video game version made him look even bigger than that, and he wasn’t too happy about it as he took to social media to respond.

While there’s still some time for EA Sports to work out the kinks before the game’s July release, Parks’ critique certainly drew some attention on the day of its big reveal.
