Texas basketball drops in lastest AP Top 25 Poll

Texas falls two spots in the latest top 25 rankings.

A 1-1 week on the court drops Texas basketball to No. 8 in the updated AP Top 25 Poll.

The Longhorns were upset on the road against Texas Tech on Monday before bouncing back with an overtime win over rival Oklahoma on the weekend.

Texas still sits firmly in the mix for the Big 12 regular season title. The Horns are tied with No. 3 Kansas at 10-4 in Big 12 play with four games remaining. No. 8 Baylor is lurking, just one game back from a share of first place.

Rodney Terry has the Longhorns in position for their highest NCAA Tournament seeding since 2008. The committee announced Texas as the No. 5 overall team before its win vs. the Sooners. With games against four ranked teams left on the schedule, Texas can play itself into a No. 1 seed for March Madness.

Texas hosts No. 23 Iowa State on Tuesday in an all important Big 12 matchup.

Texas basketball checks in at No. 6 in latest AP Top 25 Poll

13 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 for Texas basketball.

The Texas Longhorns (20-5) didn’t fall very far after a 1-1 split last week. The Longhorns fell one spot to No. 6 in college basketball’s latest AP Top 25 Poll.

With the ranking, Rodney Terry’s team stays in the Top 10 for a remarkable 13 straight weeks. To Terry’s credit, it’s easy to chart relative consistency from the team throughout the season.

There’s palpable excitement in the Lone Star State as the Longhorns travel to face the unranked Texas Tech Red Raiders (13-12) on Monday evening with revenge on their minds.

Texas won the first matchup with an impressive second half comeback before sending the game to overtime. Even so, the sting of Tech’s two-game sweep of the Longhorns last season brings added incentive to win on Monday.

With six games to go, each game certainly bears added importance. Despite the Raiders’ struggles facing the basketball team that hates Texas the most makes this matchup matter more than many prior games.

Texas will look to lock in its 14th consecutive week in the Top 10 starting Monday night.

Texas lands at No. 7 in latest college basketball AP Poll

Kansas, Texas, Iowa State, Kansas State and TCU rank inside the Top 15.

The Texas Longhorns moved up three spots to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll. This comes after erasing an 18-point lead against the then-No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs to win by four.

Texas’ exclusion from the Top 5 is curious, but certainly has a case to be ranked at least one spot higher. The Gonzaga Bulldogs, who the Longhorns defeated by 19 points earlier this season, rank one spot ahead despite having more losses than Texas.

The Alabama Crimson Tide has its own case to be ranked higher after ranking No. 4 in the latest poll. The Tide is 15-2 with home wins over Michigan State and North Carolina and a road win over No. 1 Houston. Nate Oats’ team has won each of its last four games by 15 points or more.

The Big 12 saw six teams make the Top 25. Kansas, Texas, Iowa State, Kansas State and TCU rank inside the Top 15.

Houston leads the rankings at No. 1 followed by Kansas, Purdue, Alabama and UCLA.
