GameDay released a hype video ahead of the game that will get Georgia, Clemson, and college football fans fired up:

The 65th edition of Georgia-Clemson is expected to be the top nonconference game of the 2021 college football season. The Bulldogs and Tigers are both ranked in the top five and are considered championship contenders.

Clemson needs a marquee win with the way their schedule is laid out. Georgia can’t afford to lose either. The Bulldogs would have a razor-thin margin of error if they fall to the Tigers.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart talks fall camp injuries: ‘Every one of them are day-to-day’

Smart spoke on Georgia football’s mounting injuries after UGA’s scrimmage on Saturday.

Georgia football has had a recent string of bad luck when it comes to injuries. Multiple key players have gone down with different issues during fall camp. And with just 12 days until the top-5 clash with Clemson, the Bulldogs are hoping for speedy recoveries.

Here’s an updated look at UGA’s injury report:

  • TE Darnell Washington (foot)
  • DB Tykee Smith (foot/ankle)

Smith and Washington both underwent surgeries to repair foot injuries last week. The time table is reportedly three to four weeks, however, coach Smart says the guys are day-to-day.

  • C Warren Ericson (hand)

Ericson has returned to practice in a limited role and is expected to go versus Clemson.

  • ILB Quay Walker (unknown)

Walker has been a limited participant in both of Georgia’s fall scrimmages but is expected to be available in Charlotte.

  • CB Jalen Kimber (shoulder)
  • WR Arik Gilbert (personal)
  • TE John FitzPatrick (foot)

Fitzpatrick has missed both scrimmages but has been able to condition and is expected to be available versus the Tigers.

  • OL Owen Condon (Unknown)
  • WR Dominick Blaylock (ACL)

Blaylock has been participating in non-contact drills but has yet to be fully cleared for practice or gameplay.

  • WR George Pickens (ACL)

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart spoke on the team’s injuries and the status of Blaylock, Gilbert and Fitzpatrick after Georgia’s scrimmage on Saturday.

“We don’t have an injury where there are guys out for a long amount of time,” Smart said. “We are hopeful to get all of those guys back. I mean every one of them is day-to-day. Each one is a different situation but I expect to be full tilt when Clemson comes. We had more guys healthy today than we had last scrimmage and we are in good position.”

Smart is optimistic about the team’s health in spite of a long list of banged-up Dawgs, which should give UGA fans a bit of relief. Still, Georgia will want every one of its contributors ready to go for one of the biggest games of the college football season.

Check back to UGA Wire next week to get the official injury report for week 1.

“UGA Football Live with J.C. Shelton” is back! In the podcast’s 2021 kickoff episode, J.C. is joined by former Georgia football greats Tavarres King, Kieth Marshall and Armarlo Herrera to talk about their time in Athens, the 2021 Bulldogs and Georgia vs. Clemson! Listen here:

Clemson clears star WR Justyn Ross to play

Clemson Tigers wide receiver Justyn Ross has been cleared to return to football after missing the 2020 college football season.

Clemson Tigers wide receiver Justyn Ross has been cleared to return to football after missing the 2020 college football season. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney cleared Ross, who is the Tiger’s top receiving threat.

Ross underwent spinal surgery last year, which forced him to miss the college football season. Ross is still out of practice for a few days as he remains in COVID-19 protocols.

The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Clemson Tigers on Sept. 4 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ross is expected to be matched up often against his former teammate Derion Kendrick, who transferred to Georgia this offseason.

It is great to see an elite player like Ross cleared return to game action. He has NFL draft hopes and is one of the most electric players to watch in college football.

Ross caught 46 passes for 1,000 yards as a freshman for Clemson in 2018. He helped the Tigers win the national championship with a spectacular performance.

Kirby Smart talks Georgia football season-opener vs Clemson

Kirby Smart talks Georgia season-opener vs Clemson

Georgia is looking to run the table this year and make its way to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2017.

In order to do that, the Bulldogs will have to get past the mighty Clemson Tigers in the season-opening game in Charlotte.

What’s sure to be a top-five matchup, the game was recently announced as ESPN’s College GameDay’s destination for the opening weekend.

With so much time to prepare for the game – all offseason – Smart was asked what his team is doing to get ready to take on the powerhouse program that is Clemson.

“There’s only so much you can do to prepare for a game,” Smart said Tuesday. “If anything you can over-prepare. But we’ve done a lot of things in spring. We’ve worked on opponents in spring, including Clemson. We’ve worked in the offseason. We tried to do a game week preparation prior to getting to game week, but you don’t exactly know what you have. We don’t know how these transfer players and our freshmen and sophomores who didn’t get spring practice, how they’re going to fit into the pieces. So we got to find out what we have before we worry about stopping somebody else or scoring or somebody.

Got a lot of respect for Clemson, Dabo’s program. They’ve done a tremendous job. They’ve been one of the premier programs in the country. So we embrace these opportunities to play these games. It is why you want to come to Georgia. We want to play one of these every year so we’re excited for this one.”

The game does not get much bigger than this. Georgia has been a top-five for the last few seasons and Clemson a title contender for the last decade. With that being said, both teams will be absolutely fired up for this one.

“They’re looking at Georgia, an SEC opponent, somebody that everybody talks about,” Smart said. “They want a shot at that. Both teams will be motivated to go win. It’s what college football is about, as well as our fans. I just can’t wait to get back into a fully-packed stadium in pads.”

Where’s UGA CB Derion Kendrick in 247Sports Transfer Portal Top 150?

Where’s UGA CB Derion Kendrick in 247Sports Transfer Portal Top 150?

247Sports recently released its final rankings of the top 150 transfer prospects this offseason and showed plenty of love to new Georgia cornerback Derion Kendrick.

The former Clemson Tiger ranked No. 6 on the list.

6. Derion Kendrick, CB, Georgia (from Clemson): Kendrick’s legal troubles are behind him, his 2021 home is secured in Athens and the big expectations are back. Lacking elite top-end speed, he might get burned every now and again, but this is a big-time, playmaking cornerback with an NFL future.

Kendrick is projected to start as the No. 1 cornerback in Dan Lanning’s defensive scheme this season. Kendrick transferred to Georgia from Clemson this offseason, meaning he will face his former team to open the season.

Kendrick is a former five-star recruit who began his college football career at wide receiver, but transitioned to cornerback as a sophomore.

Georgia started Ameer Speed and Jalen Kimber in the spring game, but the secondary will look much different to open the season.

Kirby Smart brought in more competition at defensive back, including West Virginia transfer Tykee Smith. Former five-star recruit Kelee Ringo will compete for playing time.

Kendrick’s big-game experience will be critical for the secondary. He is considered a top cornerback prospect for the 2022 NFL draft, but there are concerns about his character.

Kendrick proved himself as a top cornerback during his time at Clemson. He finished the 2020 season as an All-ACC performer. The former South Pointe High School star deflected six passes, recorded a sack and intercepted one pass last season for the Tigers.

Kendrick has 23 career starts at cornerback. He has played in five career College Football Playoff games.

Georgia adds former Clemson DB Derion Kendrick: Twitter reacts

Here are the best Twitter reactions to Georgia football landing former 5-star Clemson Tigers CB Derion Kendrick.

Per a report from Dawgnation, former Clemson All-ACC cornerback Derion Kendrick is transferring to Georgia.

Georgia plays Clemson in Charlotte on college football’s opening weekend and Kendrick very well may be on the field playing against his former team.

This is huge news for Georgia, as the secondary is easily the biggest area of concern after losing three starting cornerbacks from last year’s team to the NFL (Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, DJ Daniels).

The  6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback is a product of South Pointe High School, the same Rock Hill, South Carolina school that produced Jadeveon Clowney. As a recruit, Kendrick had 5-stars next to his name and was recruited as a wide receiver.
