LOOK: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes dons inspirational cleats for matchup vs. Packers

Patrick Mahomes was seen wearing cleats with two inspirational inscriptions for the #Chiefs’ Week 13 matchup against the #Packers.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known for his dominance on the gridiron, and despite his no-holds-barred approach to the game of football, his easygoing personality always has a way of charming fans.

The NFL’s reigning MVP decided to wear some cleats with a particularly inspiring message written on them for Kansas City’s Week 13 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

“We are all human,” and “Love yourself for who you are,” are both inscribed on the cleats’ sides along with a 15 and the Mahomies Foundation logo.

While the shoes may not help him run faster or throw the ball further, the message sent by Mahomes is sure to connect with the audience in attendance for the primetime matchup at Lambeau Field.

Watch for Mahomes to put on a show in this game as he looks to get the cleats as much exposure as possible in a game that could have huge implications on the AFC playoff race.

Pro Football Hall of Fame makes room for Saints star Taysom Hill

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is making room for Taysom Hill, asking the Saints for memorabilia from his historic performance against the Bears:

Now that’s something special. The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that the Pro Football Hall of Fame reached out to request memorabilia from Taysom Hill’s uniform after his historic performance against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Hill became just the fifth player in pro football history to have 10 passing touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns and 10 receiving touchdowns in a career. Hill’s touchdown catch against the Bears finally sealed the deal.

If you’re curious, Hill was the first player to do so since New York Giants great Frank Gifford accomplished the feat in 1957; according to ESPN, he’s now one of five players in the 10-10-10 club, along with Gifford; Charley Trippi, leader of the old Chicago Cardinals’ “Million Dollar Backfield”; Red Grange; and Jimmy Conzelman.

Those four have been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Hill may not receive his own bronze bust (he doesn’t have the All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition of those old-school legends of the game), but his name and memorabilia will be in Canton for years to come. And that’s definitely worth celebrating.

LOOK: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to wear swanky custom cleats vs. Dolphins

Rashee Rice will wear swanky custom cleats for the #Chiefs’ international matchup against the #Dolphins in Germany.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ receiving corps will look to bounce back against the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 after laying an egg against the Denver Broncos. Rookie wideout Rashee Rice is expected to play a major role in Kansas City’s offense in the Chiefs’ international matchup in Germany on Sunday and will sport some swanky custom cleats for the occasion.

The footwear features motifs of both the American and German flags and is sure to be a hit with the audience attending the highly anticipated matchup in Frankfurt.

Though the cleats themselves may not give Rice an edge over his opponents on the gridiron, he will certainly look good running his routes in them as Kansas City attempts to secure their seventh win of the 2023 season.

With any luck, Rice may be able to win over an international audience with his new boots and set career highs in receiving yards and touchdowns to lift the Chiefs to victory.

‘Everything’s good’: McCarthy, Jones reassure Cowboys fans after Dak Prescott’s cleat fiasco

The team’s coach and owner both proclaimed Prescott fine, but fans are now concerned that his ankle may be a bigger concern than his shoes. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys are doing their best to turn Dak Prescott’s cleats into a non-story.

But when the starting quarterback of America’s Team and $40 million man has to bag practice 72 hours before the opening game of the season because new shoes were aggravating his surgically-repaired ankle, it’s worth a follow-up or two.

Friday morning, after Prescott himself promised that he’d be “good to go” for Sunday night’s showdown with the Buccaneers, both his head coach and owner have confirmed that self-assessment.

“He’s going to be a full participant today, and I anticipate he’ll be the same tomorrow,” McCarthy told reporters in his Friday press conference. “I don’t have any concern about him playing Sunday.”

It was concerning, though, when Prescott left Thursday’s practice early and didn’t return, all because new Jordan 11s he had planned to wear Sunday were causing soreness in his right ankle.

“Switching shoes today probably wasn’t the best idea,” Prescott said after practice. “It’s the bionic ankle, so we’re fine.”

But along with a big sigh of relief, much of Cowboys Nation had a seemingly simple question.

If his shoes were hurting his ankle, why not just put on different shoes? Why did this result in him missing the rest of practice and showing up on the injury report?

On 105.3 The Fan Friday morning, team owner Jerry Jones stated that Prescott “certainly could have returned.”

McCarthy said it was “high caution” that kept Prescott out, allowing Cooper Rush to take the rest of the snaps with the first team.

“We react to everything; that’s just the nature of the game,” the coach said. “It’s really standard procedure to go through that anytime a player has an issue.”

McCarthy declined to say what was included in that procedure.

“I’m not going to get into all the specifics,” he explained. “But we checked him out. We made sure that everything’s good.”

Jones agreed.

“It was checked out thoroughly in every way that you can, and no issues,” he told a radio audience. “We’ve got some really good on-the-spot testing and on-the-spot equipment that we can do out there, not only right there in our practice facility, but also just steps away in our Baylor Medical Center. So we were able to take a good look at it and got completely satisfied and he did, too, that there was nothing to it.”

Earlier on the same airwaves, McCarthy went so far as to say that the team’s offensive game plan remains exactly the same for Week 1, even if his quarterback will have to find a different pair of cleats.

“We haven’t changed one thing,” the coach said. “We had our normal meetings last night. Dak’s a part of that. We’re right on schedule.”

And yet, there’s now a twinge of doubt in the minds of many fans. Is Prescott’s right ankle really fully healthy?

Prescott has worn Jordan 11s before- for a few games last season- but was breaking in a new pair for opening night. He says he’ll now go back to the Jordan 1s he wore during training camp.

The quarterback has an endorsement deal with the Jordan Brand and gifted Jordan 11s to his teammates last December. He surprised Cowboys coaches and sideline staff with Jordan 1s last month.

For the amount of money both the team and the shoe brand have tied up in Prescott, it’s a safe bet that someone somewhere is figuring out how to give the face of the most visible franchise in football a completely customized and spot-on perfect fit for his next pair.

Broncos fans love Russell Wilson’s new cleats

Russell Wilson’s cleats say a 4th Super Bowl title is coming soon for the Broncos.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is hosting teammates at his home in California this week for pre-training camp workouts and passing sessions.

On Sunday evening, he posted some highlights on social media from his work with wide receivers Tim Patrick and Tyrie Cleveland. Broncos fans are of course happy to see the star QB getting on the same page with his WRs, but it was Wilson’s new cleats that really got fans talking.

Wilson was rocking orange and blue cleats that featured a Lombardi Trophy on the back with the caption “4TH COMING SOON…”

That is, of course, a reference to Denver seeking a fourth title this season. Wilson himself has only won a single Super Bowl so far, but the Broncos have won three times. You can see the custom message at the 0:08 mark of Wilson’s video (music warning):

“Gives me chills,” Sebastian Jennings wrote on Twitter.

“Love the confidence from Russ w/ this statement,” @BroncoFanatic97 added.

“No lie this gets me fired up,” Damien Valdez commented.

Wilson and his teammates are set to report to the team’s UCHealth Training Center for the start of training camp next week (camp schedule).

These Nelson Cruz Earth Day cleats are out of this world

The slugger knocked it out of the park with these

One of the best recent decisions baseball has made has been to allow players to express themselves with custom cleats.

While former New York Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier was lauded for putting spikes on rare Jordans and Nikes, players around the league haven’t been afraid to dive into the fray with their own signature looks.

We saw a ton of that on Jackie Robinson Day with stars like Pete Alonso, Akil Baddoo and Robinson Cano dropping custom kicks.  On this Friday’s Earth Day, Washington Nationals slugger Nelson Cruz will rock a pair featuring his home country of the Dominican Republic and, man, do they look stunning.

Making the Nike swoosh look like a sandbar in the water is an A+++ move.

Overall just stunning work here. Fans will have a chance to bid on these beauties after Friday’s game with proceeds benefiting Players For The Planet.

Don’t be surprised if Cruz hits another one of his towering home runs Friday while wearing them.

MLB stars are pulling out custom cleats for Jackie Robinson Day and they’re so awesome

These are TORCH.

Jackie Robinson Day is one of the best days of the Major League Baseball season each and every year.

The league pays homage to an absolute icon in Robinson who quite literally changed the trajectory of the sport just by being the first African American to play Major League Baseball.

Simply put, the game isn’t what it is today without Robinson’s contribution and the sacrifices he made. It is undoubtedly something that should be honored.

So, every year, the sport has every player top to bottom wearing Robinson’s number 42 on their jerseys. But some players don’t just stop there — they take things a step further.

How? With custom cleats. Lots of MLB players across the league are wearing Jackie Robinson cleats today. Here are some of the best ones we’ve seen so far.

Alvin Kamara sends Christmas Day cleats, notice for $5K fine to Hall of Fame

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara sent his jersey, cleats, and NFL fine notice to the Pro Football Hall of Fame after a record-tying game.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”Ds4uOYYsZG-1105642-7498″]

The NFL fined Alvin Kamara $5,000 for wearing unapproved cleats during his big win over the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day, in which the New Orleans Saints running back went with a festive pair of red and green shoes to celebrate the holiday. And he ran for six touchdowns in that game, tying a 91-year old NFL record along the way.

So the uniform violations fine wasn’t exactly welcome news. And Kamara isn’t letting anyone forget it, having included the letter from the league office in a shipment to the Pro Football Hall of Fame featuring other previous cargo, including the infamous cleats. He’s also sending his jersey from the game and the footballs he carried into the end zone for his fifth and sixth touchdown runs for enshrinement in Canton.

The gesture’s a fun dig from Kamara, but it’s worth remembering just how impressive his season has been. He’s scored 58 touchdowns in 60 games played with the Saints through his still-young career (excluding the playoffs), ranking him second-best in team history. Only standout wide receiver Marques Colston ranks above him, with 72 touchdowns recorded in 146 games. If Kamara keeps up the pace, he’ll own the franchise record for touchdowns scored before we know it. This probably isn’t the last time he’ll be sending some gear to the Hall of Fame.

LOOK: Drew Brees’ new cleats highlight baseball legends Ken Griffey Jr., Ted Williams

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is wearing new cleats that honor his favorite baseball players like Ken Griffey Jr. and Ted Williams.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”gBTMf15kSZ-1102973-7498″]

Drew Brees will be wearing some new gear when he begins to warm up for Sunday’s Wild-Card Round playoff game with the Chicago Bears. The New Orleans Saints shared an up-close look at the quarterback’s latest pair of cleats, designed by Marcus Rivero of Soles by Sir, who has created customized “My Cause My Cleats” for Brees in the past.

The new cleats feature some of Brees’ favorite baseball players, including Ted Williams, who inspired him to wear No. 9 on his jersey. Other all-time greats he’s chosen to highlight are Ken Griffey Jr., Satchel Paige, and Nolan Ryan. It’s quite a group to assemble, and it’s easy to see how they inspired Brees to put in the work to be great in the NFL, too.

No Fun League: Alvin Kamara receives uniform violations fine for festive cleats

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara hit received a $5,000 uniform violations fine for his festive Christmas Day cleats, worn in Week 16.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”JGLpzGMmoH-1091445-7498″]

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. The NFL issued a $5,000 fine to New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara after he wore unapproved cleats in Week 16’s blockbuster win over the Minnesota Vikings — appropriate to the Christmas Day scheduling as his red-and-green ensemble may have been, the humorless worker drones in the league office didn’t hesitate to go after him, citing the NFL uniform violations policy.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported news of the fine, which was confirmed by Nola.com’s Amie Just.

Ironically, highlights from Kamara’s all-time-great performance against Minnesota will probably be used for years to promote future NFL prime-time games. It’s not every day that someone scores half a dozen touchdowns in a single game, much less as a runner (it hadn’t happened in 91 years, for those keeping score at home). So either the NFL’s marketing department will have to crop out the offending footwear or blithely turn a blind eye to the hypocrisy of it all.

Anyway: this isn’t unexpected. Kamara said previously that he would accept whatever fine the league throws at him and match it in a charitable donation, so some good will come of it. Considering his efforts have already drawn over $21,000 for a charity close to him in thanks from Saints fans and fantasy football managers, well, it’s great to see Kamara embracing the spirit of the season.
