Ex-Georgia wide receiver visiting USF

A former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver, four-star recruit is visiting USF.

Ex-Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver C.J. Smith is set to visit the South Florida Bulls on Jan. 6, according to Matt Zenitz on CBS Sports/247 Sports. Smith, who transferred to Purdue in for the 2024 college football season is in the portal for a second time in his career.

Smith was a four-star recruit in 2022 when he signed with the Bulldogs. Smith played two seasons in Georgia as a depth receiver before transferring to Purdue last year.

Two former Georgia football players enter transfer portal again

Two former Georgia Bulldogs put their names in the transfer portal for the second time in their respective careers

The Purdue Boilmakers were arguably the biggest disaster in the 2024 college football season, finishing 1-11.

Today, the Purdue’s future took a hit, too. Two former Georgia Bulldogs (wide receiver C.J. Smith and cornerback Nyland Green) have put their names in the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer from CBS Sports and 247Sports, respectively.

Green was a five-star recruit from the class of 2021. He committed to Georgia and spent three seasons there before entering the transfer portal in 2023. On Christmas Day, he committed to Purdue.

Green recorded 13 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in seven games with the Boilmakers, but he should get a lot of interest due to his high school pedigree.

Smith was a four-star recruit in 2022 when he signed with the Bulldogs. Smith spent two seasons in Georgia before transferring to Purdue last year.

With Purdue, Smith caught six passes for 69 yards in three games. He had more usage as a Georgia Bulldog, with six catches for 116 yards and a carry for four yards.

It’ll be interesting to see where Green and Smith end up, especially if they end up committing to the same school again. Maybe Purdue (and former Georgia receiver) De’Nylon Morrissette can join them if he enters the transfer portal. Georgia is in need of wide receivers and defensive backs.

Georgia WR plans to enter transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs freshman wide receiver enters transfer portal after recording six catches for 116 yards in 2023

Georgia Bulldogs freshman wide receiver C.J. Smith turned heads with his explosiveness in 2023. Now, Smith is entering the NCAA transfer portal. The speedy wide receiver will have three years of eligibility left at his new school.

Smith came to Georgia as a four-star recruit in the class of 2022. He redshirted in 2022 before having a larger role this past season. Smith played in nine games in 2023. This season, he recorded six catches for 116 yards and had one rush for four yards.

Georgia brought in a pair of transfer wide receivers this offseason, so it is understandable Smith is looking to go elsewhere for more playing time. Georgia has already had wide receivers Jackson Meeks and Mekhi Mews enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Overall, 15 players have transferred away from Georgia since the SEC championship.

Recently committed WR CJ Smith signs with Georgia

Georgia added some serious speed this morning.

The Bulldogs received some good news on Tuesday, when four-star receiver C.J. Smith, a former Florida commit, committed to UGA.

Smith is rated as the No. 34 receiver, the No. 26 player in the state of Florida and the No. 224 player overall in the 2022 recruiting class.

Smith is a legitimate track star who won both the 100m (10.28) and 200m as a junior at Mt. Dora High School in Orlando, Fla.

Smith plans to follow along the same path as current Bulldog receiver Arian Smith, who also runs track for Georgia.

On Wednesday, Smith officially put pen to paper and signed with the Bulldogs.

Tennessee visits Florida wide receiver decommit ahead of early signing period

Tennessee visits Florida wide receiver decommit ahead of the early signing period.

First-year head coach Josh Heupel and his Tennessee staff continue to recruit future Vols.

Heupel and the Vols’ staff have been visiting commits and prospects on the recruiting trail, as well as having players visit on campus.

On Wednesday, Tennessee wide receivers coach Kodi Burns visited 2022 prospect Chandler Smith.

“Another great in home visit with Kodi Burns,” Smith said on Twitter.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver is from Mt. Dora High School in Orlando, Florida. Smith decommitted from Florida on Dec. 7.

The football early signing period takes place Dec. 15-17 for the 2022 recruiting class.

Gators snag a second blazing fast wide receiver in 2022 recruiting class

The Florida recruiting class adds another speedy wide receiver to the mix after a successful official visit with the team over the weekend.

Sunday evening, wide receiver CJ Smith announced via his Twitter account that he has committed to play for the Florida Gators’ football team. Smith, a member of the 2022 recruiting class, had just wrapped up his official visit with the team when he decided to commit. He is the second player to make their commitment to Florida official on Sunday, following linebacker Shemar James.

What makes Smith special is his combination of long levers and straight-line speed. He was a member of the Bishop Moore track team that won the 2021 2A Florida state championship, including a personal record 21.01 second 200-meter dash in the final meet.

“I like that they’re close to home and they have a passing offense, which really suits my playstyle,” Smith said, following his official visit.

It’s no surprise that the on-field product is what finally convinced Smith to sign on with the Gators. Head coach Dan Mullen and his assistants, especially wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, routinely do an outstanding job at selling players on the idea that their particular playstyle will be a natural fit in the Swamp. With the ability to point at the electrifying 2020 offense and say “you can do that too” in their back pocket, it’s hard for a player like Smith to ignore the team’s pitch.

The Gators’ 2022 recruiting class now stands at eight players. Smith is the fourth player at an offensive skill position to make a verbal pact with the team. The others are quarterback Nick Evers, tight end CJ Hawkins, and wide receiver Isaiah Bond.

As wideouts with unbelievable speed who plan to play football and run track at Florida, Bond and Smith are similar players. There are a few important differences between them that may impact how the Gators plan to move forward with the pair. For instance, Bond is three inches shorter than Smith, but only five pounds lighter, meaning their physical development as SEC-caliber athletes may need to take different paths.

More importantly, Bond is still being pursued by other SEC teams, namely, Alabama, whereas there has not been reporting of any team pushing for Smith as much the Gators did. Should the Crimson Tide overturn Bond’s commitment, there won’t be as much heartburn about it because the Gators still have Smith in-house.
