Notre Dame has ‘no plans’ for transfer portal quarterback in 2025

Does this make you happy?

Amidst all the hoopla surrounding National Signing Day, one question remained for Notre Dame. Would it go to transfer portal for a quarterback again in 2025 given how it has done so in three of the past four years?

It was a fair question given that [autotag]Jack Coan[/autotag], [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] and [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] all have been handed the keys to the Irish’s offense fresh off playing at other universities. But [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] assured at his National Signing Day news conference that that wouldn’t be the case.

When asked whether the Irish have enough quarterbacks in the wings already, Freeman assured that they did, adding, “We have no plans on going to the transfer portal for a quarterback.”

That will be a big relief to a quarterbacks room that already features [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag], [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag], [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] and [autotag]Anthony Rezac[/autotag]. And don’t forget about Blake Hebert, one of the many signees for the Irish earlier in the day.

Here’s Freeman’s entire news conference in which he gives this assurance:

Finally in 2025, we’ll get to see how good Freeman and his staff are at recruiting quarterbacks instead of obtaining them from elsewhere.

Marcus Freeman updates injury status of Boubacar Traore, CJ Carr and more

Some bad news, some good for the injured Irish

As Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] does every Monday, he met with the media and gave an update on his team’s health.

Unfortunately for the Irish, the injury bug has hit the squad hard, as what many feared became a reality on Monday, freshman defensive end [autotag]Boubacar Traore[/autotag] has been lost for the year with an ACL injury. It’s a big blow to the defensive line, at they also lost Jordan Botelho for the season as well.

As for a few others, tight end Cooper Flanigan, defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio, and offensive lineman Billy Schrauth all are questionable this week against Stanford.

There was some good news as well, with wide receiver Jordan Faison, defensive lineman Joshua Burnham, and cornerback Christian Gray are listed as probable. Offensive lineman Sam Pendleton suffered a concussion against Louisville, but has made a quick recovery and should be ready to go this weekend.

True freshman safety Braunte Johnson is much closer to a return, but his classmate quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] isn’t.

Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr (12) warms up before a NCAA college football game between Notre Dame and Louisville at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, in South Bend.

He hurt his throwing elbow in practice, and while it’s not a major injury, he has been held out of activities as he gets closer to being full strength. We now have an answer as to why Carr was throwing left-handed while warming up for the Cardinals.

Hopefully, the injuries don’t continue for the Irish, but it’s hard to say that will stop with such a physical game.

One national recruiting analyst isn’t panicking over Notre Dame recruiting

Are you panicking?

While it may seem like the sky is falling for Notre Dame football recruiting, see Deuce Knight, that might not be the case.

While speaking on 247Sports’ YouTube channel, Bud Elliott says there shouldn’t be panic when talking about the Irish. While he does believe  Knight will flip to Auburn, he went on to say “Notre Dame has recruited so well at the quarterback position, that I don’t think a full-on panic is justified.”

It’s hard to disagree with his analysis of the situation, and Elliott even predicted who will start at the position for the Irish next season: [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag].

The depth at the position might be as good as it has been in a very long time. Along with Carr there’s Steve Angeli and Kenny Minchey. All three could get the job done, and that may be the reason Knight is having second thoughts on playing in South Bend.

It’s a good, and bad, problem to have.

Notre Dame football lands their 2026 quarterback

The recruiting quarterback success continues for the Irish

The continued focus on landing high-level quarterbacks since Marcus Freeman took over the Notre Dame football program continued on Saturday.

[autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag], a 2026 Florida prospect, committed to the Irish, giving them a second commit of the cycle joining wide receiver Dylan Faison. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 188-pound quarterback is a 4-star as the nations No. 118 overall prospect and 10th rated at his position according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Over the last three recruiting cycles, Notre Dame has brought in [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag], [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], along with commitments [autotag]Deuce Knight[/autotag] and now Grubbs. All of them are ranked as 4-stars, which shows that the Irish are stacking quarterbacks.

Now with a big-time quarterback prospect, the hope is that Grubbs will lure other elite players to join him in South Bend.

WATCH: Indiana guard ejected for dirty elbow on Max Klesmit after torrid stretch

WATCH: Indiana guard ejected for dirty elbow on Max Klesmit after torrid stretch

Max Klesmit is playing out of his mind again. The veteran guard went on another white-hot stretch tonight against Indiana. Midway through the second half, he’s now up to 23 points on 7/9 shooting and 5/6 from three.

At first, the three-pointers were shades of Kyle Korver shooting over defenders. Then the ensuing dribble moves and crafty passes looked more like Klay Thompson during one of his hot performances. It’s become a true breakout month for the Wisconsin guard.

Klesmit’s dominance in the second half tonight was enough that upon returning to the offensive side of the court, Indiana guard C.J. Gunn threw a dirty elbow while the ball was being walked up the court.

The play was reviewed and Gunn was ejected with a flagrant 2. As many pointed out, he couldn’t guard Klesmit for the last 10 minutes so instead resorted to cheap shots.

Klesmit’s run in essence closed out the game after Indiana had cut the Badgers’ deficit to seven. Wisconsin went on an 18-2 run with the guard’s hot streak, and are currently in position to come away with their sixth conference win of the season.

Notre Dame Football 2024 Outlook: Quarterbacks (1.0)

How does Notre Dame look at quarterback entering 2024?

Notre Dame finished the 2023 football season with three-straight wins to go 10-3, wrapping with a dominating 40-8 win over Oregon State in the Sun Bowl.

A dominating defense remains largely intact as the page now turns to 2024 but what about the offense?

We will go position-by-position this January breaking down what is lost and who returns for the Fighting Irish in 2024 – and what it all means for the season to come.

Today we look at the quarterbacks as the Irish have to replace one of the most experienced signal callers in the history of college football.  Let’s take an initial look at how the quarterback situation shapes up entering 2024 – obviously this is all possible to change at a moment’s notice given the modern day transfer portal workings.

Help Notre Dame football commit CJ Carr raise money in memory of his late brother

Already making Irish nation proud!

[autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] tragically lost his younger brother, Chad, to an inoperable brain tumor in November of 2015.

There are multiple ways that CJ remembers Chad, one being a tattoo on his right wrist. Another is raising money in an effort to educate people on diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, which was the condition that took his brothers life.

Carr took to X, the website formerly known as Twitter, for people to join in his cause on Saturday, September 16th in a RunTough event. You can participate virtually, as many people who have opted to join the run are from all across the country.

Although Carr has yet to suit up in blue and gold, he is already making Irish nation proud with his commitment to giving back to the community.

Receiver commit Cam Williams enrolling early at Notre Dame

Why wait to start your Irish career when you don’t have to?

Sometimes, when you’re about to play college football and have accomplished all you can in high school, you just can’t wait anymore. 2024 Notre Dame quarterback commit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] already has done that. Now, he’s being joined by one of his targets in that same recruiting class.

Hopes are high that 2024 receiver commit [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag], who attended the Irish’s win over Wake Forest, will be one of many players to revolutionize that position for the program. Well, he’s decided to get an early start on that per Matt Freeman of Irish Sports Daily:

By graduating early, Williams’ time as a student at Glenbard South in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, will end sooner than that of most of his classmates. There might not have been a more talented player ever to don a Raider uniform, and he now gets to begin the next chapter of his football life. Here’s to what hopefully will be a nice collegiate career for him.

Notre Dame incoming freshman quarterback already practicing with team

Early, early enrollee.

Incoming freshman quarterback CJ Carr hasn’t even signed his national letter of intent yet but he’s already practicing at Notre Dame.

That’s because a new rule allows early entrees to practice for bowl games with their squads.  Carr, a four-star quarterback from Saline, Mich. has taken advantage of exactly that and the early returns are positive.

“Today he was slinging the ball around,” Marcus Freeman told the media Saturday. “He’s going to be a great player.”

Carr is of course the grandson of former Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr.  Carr was one of Notre Dame’s first commitments in the 2024 recruiting class and helped played recruiter for over the past calendar year.

“It’s just good to have him here in that comfort,” Freeman said. “As you move into winter and you move into spring ball, he’s not starting Ground Zero. He knows what the expectations are. He’ll know where to go. He’ll be able to help those guys that are coming in January figure it out.”

The early signing period officially opens on December 20 as Carr and several other recruiting prospects will make their pledges to Notre Dame official.
