Reds at Braves projected starters

RHP Hunter Greene vs. RHP Spencer Strider

Reds at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 4, Reds 2

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Braves (-275) are expected to complete the series sweep Wednesday but taking them straight up at the current odds isn’t advised.

Run line/Against the spread

BET BRAVES -1.5 (-130).

Strider appears to be an NL Cy Young candidate to begin the season and the Braves have been hitting the ball better in this series. Greene is susceptible to hard contact at times, so Atlanta should have a few chances to get runs on the board.

Over/Under

UNDER 7.5 (-105) is the pick in this game in hopes we get a pitching duel between Strider and Greene. Walks can be an issue for both pitchers, but they both tend to strike out a lot of batters.

The Reds are 4-0 to the Under in Greene’s last 4 road starts.

Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cincinnati Reds (4-5) square off against the Atlanta Braves (7-4) in the 2nd game of a 3-game series Tuesday. First pitch from Truist Park is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Reds vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Braves lead 1-0.

The Reds got a solid outing Monday from RHP Graham Ashcraft despite losing the game as he notched 2 ER on 6 H and 3 BB with 7 K in 6 IP. Cincinnati has lost 4 of its last 5 games.

The Braves needed 10 innings to pick up the 5-4 in the series opener. C Sean Murphy hit a walk-off 2-run HR to snap a 3-game losing skid.

Reds at Braves projected starters

RHP Luis Cessa vs. RHP Kyle Wright

Cessa (0-0, 3.38 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed 2 ER on 4 H and 3 BB with 2 K over 5 1/3 IP in his debut vs. the Chicago Cubs last Tuesday.

  • Threw 83 pitches in his debut
  • Has tallied 2 or more BB in 4 of his last 5 starts dating back to last season

Wright will make his 1st start of the season after recording a 21-5 record across 30 starts in 2022. He finished with a 3.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 in 180 1/3 IP.

  • Led all pitchers with 21 wins in 2022 and finished 10th in NL Cy Young voting
  • Started the season on the 15-day IL with a shoulder injury suffered in Grapefruit League

Reds at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 6, Reds 2

Moneyline

AVOID.

Even though the Braves (-250) are expected to easily win on Tuesday, I wouldn’t advise taking them with the lack of profit you’d receive if they get the victory.

Run line/Against the spread

BRAVES -1.5 (-120) is the choice in this matchup with Wright making his season debut for Atlanta. The Braves should also have success hitting against Cessa at home.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 9 (-115) is the lean in this game with Wright taking the mound for the Braves. It remains to be seen how long he pitches in his debut, but Atlanta should be able to limit Cincinnati’s mediocre lineup.

The Under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings between these clubs and the Braves are 5-0-1 to the Under in Wright’s last 6 home starts.

Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Cincinnati Reds visit Truist Park to kick off the season against the Atlanta Braves Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Reds vs. Braves odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Braves won the 2021 series 4-3.

The Reds are coming off an offseason in which they made two major trades as they moved RHP Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins, and shipped All-Star OF Jesse Winker and 3B Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners. Both trades returned prospects and draft picks. Cincinnati is expected to be one of the three longshots in the NL Central.

The Braves had a huge offseason as they were unable to come to terms with 1B Freddie Freeman who left for the Los Angeles Dodgers and in his place signed 1B Matt Olson. The Braves are the defending World Series champions.

Reds at Braves: Projected starters

RHP Tyler Mahle vs. LHP Max Fried

Mahle (13-6, 3.75 ERA in 2021) recorded a 1.23 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 across 180 innings through 33 starts in 2022.

  • Was much better on the road (2.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) than at home (5.63 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) in 2021.
  • Was 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in one start against Atlanta last year.

Fried (14-7, 3.04 ERA in 2021) had a 1.09 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 through 165 2/3 IP across 28 starts last year.

  • Was 7-0 across 11 starts in 2020 and finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting.
  • Fried had a 2.94 ERA and 8.3 K/9 through 14 starts at Truist Park in 2021.

Reds at Braves prediction and picks

Prediction

Braves 5, Reds 2

Money line

AVOID.

The Braves are one of the best teams in the NL. However, they aren’t worth a wager on the money line at -180. Their spread offers a better value in this matchup.

Run line/Against the spread

BET the BRAVES -1.5 (+115).

The Braves ranked eighth in total runs scored last season and finished with a 42-38 home record.

They averaged 4.9 runs per game they should be able to hit their average from a season ago while limiting an unimpressive Reds lineup with Fried on the mound.

Olson put up 39 home runs for the Oakland Athletics in 2021 and earned his first All-Star appearance. The Braves have the more powerful lineup while the Reds dealt two former All-Stars.

Reliever LHP Amir Garrett also left in the offseason which will hurt Cincinnati’s bullpen as well. The Reds had a 39-42 road record and saw a significant decline in their batting this offseason.

BET the BRAVES -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under

PASS.

I like the Under 8.5 here, especially considering Atlanta is walking out their ace and Cincinnati dealt many of its big bats from a year ago, but there’s just simply too much uncertainty on opening day.

Let’s just stick to backing the Braves.

Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Cincinnati Reds (61-53) will try to halt a two-game skid when they take on the Atlanta Braves (58-55) Wednesday. First pitch is set for 7:20 p.m. ET at Truist Park. Let’s analyze the lines around the Reds vs. Braves odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Reds LHP Wade Miley (9-4, 2.75 ERA) makes his 21st start of the year. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 through 121 IP.

  • Miley has a 51% ground ball rate that has helped him limit the damage done via home runs. In fact, his 0.67 HR/9 is fourth lowest among all qualified pitchers.
  • Miley has posted a 2.93 ERA along with a 6.6 K/9 and 0.73 HR/9 in 10 road starts this season. He has struggled a bit with his control in recent weeks as evidenced by a 3.8 BB/9 over his last seven starts.

Braves RHP Touki Toussaint (1-2, 4.43 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 through 22 1/3 IP.

  • Toussaint was very good in his first two starts, including a 10 K performance in Philadelphia. However, he followed that up with a 3 1/3 IP, 7 ER outing against Milwaukee and a start in St. Louis in which he recorded just 3 K and 5 swinging strikes on 94 pitches.
  • He hasn’t walked many in his four big league starts this year but walked 14 in 23 1/3 IP in the minors and still boasts an ugly 5.3 BB/9 in 117 1/3 career innings in the majors.

  • Over/Under: 9.5 (O: -120 | U: -105)

Prediction

Reds 6, Braves 4

Money line (ML)

The Cincinnati offense will be a tough test for Toussaint as they rank 7th in wRC+ and 2nd in OPS vs right-handed pitching on the year. The Braves currently sit 26th in wRC+ vs lefties, though they did add some right-handed bats at the trade deadline in RF Jorge Soler and LF Adam Duvall.

Toussaint continues to be hit or miss, as he can dominate one start and get blown up the next. This looks like a pretty even matchup, but we’ll side with the consistency of Miley and take the REDS (+100).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Each of Cincinnati’s last six road wins has been by multiple runs and there’s simply not enough value on the extra run and a half insurance.

PASS on the run line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over is 8-2-2 in the last 12 for the Reds against a right-handed starter.

Despite their struggles against southpaws for most of the year, the total has gone over eight of the last 10 times the Braves have faced one.

Neither offense is likely to get shut down and depending on which version of Toussaint shows up, the Reds could even have a big day. A shaky Cincinnati bullpen could also help the Braves push across a couple runs late, so look for enough offense to push this total OVER 9.5 (-120).
