Chiefs legend Christian Okoye greeted team in Arizona as they arrived for Super Bowl LVII

The #Chiefs were greeted by franchise legend Christian Okoye when they arrived in Arizona for Super Bowl LVII.

The Kansas City Chiefs have touched down in Phoenix, Arizona ahead of Super Bowl LVII and they were greeted with a pleasant surprise.

Chiefs legend Christian Okoye also known as “The Nigerian Nightmare” was waiting on the tarmac to greet the team as they arrived. The former NFL fullback played his entire career with Kansas City from 1987-1992, twice earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections along with leading the league in rushing yards in 1989.

Okoye was designated alongside former Eagles DB Eric Allen as the NFL alums set to greet both teams as they arrived in Arizona. Okoye did just that, shaking the hands of every single member of the team as they got off the plane. He even snapped a quick selfie with Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, which TE Travis Kelce aptly photobombed.

Okoye’s comments on the selfie that he took with Mahomes were priceless.

“Yes, of course, I have to get a selfie with Patrick (Mahomes),” Okoye proclaimed to Fox 4 KC’s Harold R. Kuntz. “He’s the man.”

Chiefs Ambassadors appear to be receiving Super Bowl rings

Some of the former players who never won a Super Bowl appear to be receiving rings because of their service with the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors.

The Kansas City Chiefs are making sure that everyone who played a part in their Super Bowl LIV win is rewarded for their effort.

The Chiefs had a ring ceremony for the players, coaches and various staff members on Tuesday. Other members of the organization from operations to grounds to media have received their Super Bowl rings too. Now there’s a new group tied to the franchise getting their rings as well.

Members of the Chiefs Ambassadors, a community service-driven organization compiled of former players, appear to be among the members of the franchise that are receiving Super Bowl rings. At least three members of the group shared their customized Super Bowl rings on Twitter.

First up we had former Chiefs WR Danan Hughes, who played for the team from 1993-1998 and is also a new addition to the 2020 broadcasting team.

Next was former Chiefs WR Marc Boerigter. Boerigter played on the Chiefs from 2002-2005, with a standout rookie campaign catching passes from Trent Green. Check it out:

Next was a player that was once the face of the Chiefs organization, the Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Okoye.

The Chiefs are the type of franchise that appreciates the people who serve the team on and off the field. It shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re recognizing these former players who’ve made it their mission to help serve the Kansas City community after their playing career has ended. From local scholarship programs to charity events around the city, they’re a part of what makes this team so great.

Broncos legend Steve Atwater looks back on famous hit on Christian Okoye

During the 1990 NFL season, Broncos safety Steve Atwater delivered a massive hit on Chiefs running back Christian Okoye.

(via NFL)

After he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, former Broncos safety Steve Atwater was asked about the most famous play of his career: a massive hit on ex-Chiefs running back Christian Okoye on “Monday Night Football” during the 1990 NFL season.

“That story may have to come up a little more now,” Atwater said on Feb. 1. “It was again I think inspired by [former teammate] Dennis Smith. He was my guy, my strong safety. In meetings we’d just look at film and talk about how we were going to attack him. Fortunately, I had the opportunity and it turned out well.

“I’ve been in other games with some guys who probably weren’t as big as Christian Okoye was, but I’d go up and hit them and they got me — they get the best of me. Definitely, the timing was right and I was fortunate I came out on the good side of that.”

Okoye was listed as 253 pounds during his playing days, 33 pounds more than Atwater’s listed weight. That didn’t stop the safety from delivering a massive hit on the running back that would have gone viral in today’s social media age. It was one of the most memorable hits in NFL history.
