Chiefs Week 1 victory over the Ravens set record as the most-watched NFL kickoff game

Kansas City #Chiefs Week 1 victory over the Baltimore #Ravens set record as the most-watched NFL kickoff game | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs maintain their dominance beyond the football field. The NFL kickoff victory over the Baltimore Ravens set a new television ratings record for the annual game.

According to NBC Sports, the game had an average audience of 28.9 million, surpassing the 27.6 million who watched the New England Patriots defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the network’s 2015 opener. The audience peaked at 33 million in the second quarter, as the 20-minute weather delay at Arrowhead Stadium to start the game didn’t affect the numbers and turn away viewers.

The rating is five percent higher than last season’s opener against the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs fell short in that game 21-20 and were without Pro Bowlers Travis Kelce due to injury and Chris Jones because of his contract holdout.

Last Thursday’s contest almost went into overtime, as the Ravens were a toe away from scoring the game-tying touchdown with no time remaining in regulation. Denver, St. Louis, Norfolk, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Austin, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Cleveland were among the top markets, along with the expected ratings from Baltimore and Kansas City.

Chris Jones reacts to Tyreek Hill’s detainment ahead of Dolphins matchup vs. Jaguars

#Chiefs DL Chris Jones reacted to Tyreek Hill’s detainment ahead of the #Dolphins’ home-opener against the Jaguars on Sunday.

Though the Kansas City Chiefs are at home for the first Sunday of the NFL’s 2024 regular season, an incident between law enforcement and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill caught the attention of defensive lineman Chris Jones.

Hill, who was Jones’ teammate in Kansas City between 2016 and 2021, was placed in handcuffs ahead of the Dolphins’ Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being cited for a driving violation near Hard Rock Stadium.

Though Hill was eventually released, Jones took to Twitter to let his fans know how he felt about the incident, which was among the top storylines heading into Miami’s home opener.

The Dolphins released a statement shortly after the incident that explained what happened and implied that Hill would still be active despite his detainment by law enforcement.

Stay tuned to see how this situation evolves, and if any more Chiefs offer their support to Hill on Sunday afternoon.

PFF: Patrick Mahomes was Chiefs’ highest-graded player vs. Ravens

Pro Football Focus had #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as their highest-graded player in Kansas City’s win over the #Ravens.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the win column after the first game of their 2024 season where they beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 in a thrilling matchup.

The Chiefs’ offense was in mid-season form, totaling over 350 yards. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy found the endzone twice in his regular season debut, and sophomore Rashee Rice racked up 103 yards on seven receptions.

After the game, Pro Football Focus released their grades for Kansas City’s players, and to the surprise of no one in Chiefs Kingdom, quarterback Patrick Mahomes came out on top with a mark of 87.9.

Veteran defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Rashee Rice fell right behind Mahomes for the second and third spots, respectively.

After an incredible performance by Kansas City’s offense in Week 1, without the help of veteran wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, the team’s pursuit of an elusive Super Bowl three-peat is off to a good start.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones on defending Lamar Jackson: ‘He’s tough to bring down’

Kansas City #Chiefs DT Chris Jones on defending Lamar Jackson: ‘He’s tough to bring down’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs overcame another strong performance from reigning MVP and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones spoke to the media on Thursday night and addressed the defense’s performance against Lamar Jackson and holding on during the last defensive stand.

“We know how hard it’s going to be to bring him down, So it’s like a challenge for us to try to answer that call,” said Jones. “We knew he was going to be elusive. We knew he was going to try to make plays with his feet. And our job is to get him down, but he’s tough to bring down.”

The game ended with an overturned touchdown in the end zone, as Isaiah Likely’s foot touched out of bounds on the catch. Jones praised his teammates again for holding tough until the very end.

“It (was) a lot of effort, a lot of grit, that (went into) the last few plays from our defense,” said Jones. “(But) we were able to hold on. We were inches away from going into overtime (in the) first game of the year.”

Jackson had another 100-yard rushing game on Thursday night, while Jones finished with three tackles and the strip sack on Jackson.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones on excitement level for his ninth season: ‘Still get butterflies’

Kansas City #Chiefs DT Chris Jones on excitement level for his ninth season: ‘Still get butterflies’ | @EdEastonJr

The battle to sustain success is a significant part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ mindset as a team and individually, with veteran players continuing to strive for greatness.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones addressed his thoughts with reporters on Monday about entering another season and expectations for the defense this season.

“Absolutely. I think it’s always a butterfly feeling when you(are) getting closer to the game and actually the first play of the game, (I) still get butterflies,” said Jones. “I think when that feeling goes away then – my time here is coming up, but as long as I’m getting that feeling, I’m still here. I’m still excited to play, I’m still excited to see the potential of this team (that) we have and finally be able to hit somebody else other than my teammates.”

Jones secured ten sacks last season and a well-documented contract incentive on the way to another All-Pro year in 2023. The defense played at an elite level, but Jones believes they can take things further in 2024.

“The potential we have. We have a lot of potential in the room. It’s all about coming together, building chemistry throughout the year, and building off of adversity. Adversity builds character.” said Jones. “If we’re able to continue to face adversity and build off of that, I think this team can be really special.”

Jones is a leader on the team who still aspires to become defensive player of the year, adding to his long list of career accomplishments.

Tech N9ne praises current Kansas City #Chiefs players’ humility: ‘Everybody is so down to earth’ w/ @EdEastonJr

The many fans of Chiefs Kingdom come from various walks of life, and some well-known celebrities have unique connections with the team and franchise culture.

Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to legendary rapper Tech N9ne about his interaction and feedback with current Chiefs players. He selected his all-time starting tight end between Tony Gonzalez and Travis Kelce.

“Everybody is so down to earth,” Tech explained. “You would think that when people make a lot of money, sometimes they lose their heads. These guys have not lost their heads at all. Man, people say the same thing about me. I’ve been a multimillionaire for some years and treat people how I want to be treated.

“I get the same vibe from Pat (Patrick Mahomes), I get the same vibe from (Travis) Kelce and Chris Jones, everybody, man, I’m saying everybody shows love and respect, (Isiah) Pacheco, all of them show big love and humility, man. Really good dudes, it’s really cool.”

Tech N9ne was one of the original performers at the first ‘Kelce Jam’ last year. The Chiefs All-Pro tight end curated a lineup of his favorite artists to entertain the Kansas City community. He made the difficult decision to respond to the question of which superstar tight end in franchise history he would choose to start for his all-time Chiefs team.

“I’m going to have to say Travis Kelce. I have love for Tony Gonzalez. I just did a signing with him a few months ago down at Union Station,” said Tech. “Man, good to see him. I’m saying that I have to go with Travis Kelce. He’s a problem.”

Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII season, Taylor Swift in ‘America’s Game’ documentary on NFL Network

Kansas City #Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII season, Taylor Swift in ‘America’s Game’ documentary on NFL Network | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs will be featured in a new special that will air on NFL Network on Wednesday, September 4th.

NFL Network is set to air the latest iteration of their “America’s Game” documentary series, which chronicles the reigning Super Bowl champions each year. Narrated by actor and Chiefs fan Paul Rudd, “America’s Game” delves into the Chiefs’ third Super Bowl title in five years. In the hour-long show, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and Andy Reid recount the season in their own words.

This year’s edition of “America’s Game” is the 58th episode of the long-running special celebrating the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs. The episode features thoughts on Taylor Swift’s attendance at games during the year.

In a clip from the documentary, Mahomes reflected on Swift’s first appearance at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs’ Week 3 victory over the Chicago Bears last year.

“I became aware of her being at the game that week; [Travis Kelce] said she was thinking about coming and being at the game… He’s a guy that is full of life and loves to go out there and enjoy it. That’s why it didn’t surprise anybody on the team; people act like it was a distraction, and I was like, ‘No, this is just Travis; that’s how he always is.'”

The Chiefs’ latest America’s Game installment is expected to be entertaining for fans of football and Swift.

Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo on injured players: ‘More frustrating than annoying‘

Kansas City #Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo on injured players: ‘More frustrating than annoying‘ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs enter their final preseason game on Thursday, but they are still unsure about their defensive plans due to key players being unavailable.

On Tuesday, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo revealed to reporters his frustrations with multiple injuries on defense.

“Yeah, so, more frustrating than annoying because it’s really part of it. I was – I made this point in our (defensive) unit meeting the other day, but I don’t believe – we couldn’t have because J-Reid (Justin Reid) hasn’t had any practice snaps, right?” said Spagnuolo. “So, I don’t believe we’ve had the – let’s call it our top 11, 12, or 13, whatever that is. I don’t think we’ve had them on the field for one play. That’s concerning (and) frustrating. Now, I did say to them, ‘Those things are out of our control. I can’t control guys getting hurt, (but) what we can control is our conditioning and being ready to play and all of that.'”

The significant injuries in the secondary have affected the competition for the second starting cornerback position. According to Spagnuolo, the decision has become more complex.

“It’s making it really difficult to decide which way to go,” said Spagnuolo. “We’ve got one more game. Some of these guys will play that are still fighting for jobs, but we can’t say there is a starting other corner right now, in all honesty.”

Chris Jones has also not played in the preseason but is expected to be ready for the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Patrick Mahomes: Chiefs three-peat ‘would mean the world to me’

Check out this video of #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes explaining his goals for the 2024 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to rest their starters against the Chicago Bears on Thursday ahead of the NFL’s regular season kickoff on September 5, where the defending champions will face the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.

While Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and Trent McDuffie ride the pine this week, the Chiefs’ attention will turn toward the team’s ultimate goal; achieving a Super Bowl three-peat.

When Mahomes was asked about his goals for the 2024 season in a video posted to the NFL’s official Twitter account, he made it clear that anything less than a third-consecutive title would fall short of his objective.

Check out his full interview below:

Though Mahomes isn’t expected to take the field against Chicago on Thursday, his campaign to become the NFL’s first back-to-back-to-back champion is already underway.

Expect the veteran quarterback to be razor-sharp when he faces the Ravens in Week 1 of the 2024 regular season.

Chiefs Chris Jones volunteers $1.5m to cover stolen chicken wings

When a Cook County school employee was convicted of a $1.5m chicken wing theft, #Chiefs DT Chris Jones offered to pay for the missing poultry

Charity is commonly seen in NFL players looking to impact their community and the world overall using funds and notoriety earned from their pro-level gameplay.

This is perhaps a more interesting example of generosity, however, because Kansas City Chiefs tackle Chris Jones has volunteered to cover the $1.5 million in chicken wings that were stolen from Harvey School District 152 in Illinois by then-employee Vera Lidell.

Jones posted this tweet, revealing that he appears to be serious about ensuring that the elder school district worker who diverted food she ordered for the school to her home is forgiven for the scheme where she was able to make off with 11,000 cases of chicken wings between 2020 and 2022.

Lidell has already been convicted of the theft and was sentenced to a 9-year prison term, so it will be interesting to see how this arrangement could potentially lead to her release if Jones does put up the $1.5 million sum to cover the missing chicken wings.
