Titans place Kyle Philips on IR, sign Chris Conley

With Philips on IR, the Titans now have 13 players on the list.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the Tennessee Titans were signing wide receiver Chris Conley off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad but didn’t receive the corresponding move.

Now we know what it is — Titans 2022 fifth-round pick and wide receiver Kyle Philips has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss the next four games.

Philips suffered a hamstring injury during Friday’s practice, leading to his being ruled out in Week 7. He has also dealt with a shoulder issue.

With Philips on IR, the Titans now have 13 players on the list, five of which have been drafted in the last two years. Philips is also the second wideout drafted in 2022 to be placed on IR, along with Treylon Burks.

Tennessee currently has four wide receivers on its active roster in Conley, Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Cody Hollister, as well as three more on the practice squad in Dez Fitzpatrick, C.J. Board and Mason Kinsey.

Titans to sign WR Chris Conley from Chiefs’ practice squad

The #Titans have poached a wide receiver from the #Chiefs’ practice squad. | from @edeastonjr

Veteran receiver Chris Conley is on the move again as his time with the Kansas City Chiefs has ended; he’s on his way to being signed to another AFC team’s roster.

The Chiefs drafted Conley in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. He played four seasons in Kansas City. He was signed to the practice squad from the Houston Texans on October 6th in hopes of possibly reigniting the chemistry he had with Patrick Mahomes back in 2018.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo announced on Tuesday the Tennessee Titans have stepped in, signing Conley after only two weeks with the Chiefs practice squad. He will join his third AFC team since starting with the Texans in Week 1.

The Titans recently parted ways with former Chiefs WR Josh Gordon from their practice squad after six weeks in the organization. Conley, who did not appear in any games, is expected to be more depth at receiver following that transaction.

Signing him from the Chiefs’ practice squad means he must remain on the Titans’ 53-man roster for three weeks. The earliest they could release him is after the conclusion of Week 10. The Chiefs and Titans are scheduled to meet in Week 9 at Arrowhead Stadium on “Sunday Night Football.”

Report: Titans signing WR Chris Conley off Chiefs’ practice squad

The Titans are making an addition to their wide receivers room.

The Tennessee Titans are adding a much-needed body at the wide receiver position ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Houston Texans.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Titans are signing wide receiver Chris Conley off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad.

A former third-round pick of the Chiefs in 2015, Conley has also spent stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, where he spent the last two seasons.

Conley’s best season came in 2019 when the 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver notched career-highs in receptions (47), receiving yards (775) and touchdowns (five).

In 2021, the veteran wideout had 22 catches for 323 yards and two scores in Houston. He has only been targeted twice in 2022 but has yet to record a catch.

The Titans are dealing with multiple injuries at the position, with Treylon Burks and Racey McMath both on injured reserve, and Kyle Philips is dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of Week 7.

Conley joins a wide receivers room that also includes Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Cody Hollister. Tennessee also has Dez Fitzpatrick, Mason Kinsey and C.J. Board on the practice squad.

With Tennessee’s desperate need at the position, there’s a very good chance we’ll see Conley on the field this week.

Chiefs to sign former third-round draft pick Chris Conley to practice squad

The #Chiefs are set to bring back former 2015 third-round draft pick Chris Conley on the practice squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back a familiar face on their practice squad.

After being released by the Houston Texans on Wednesday, former Chiefs WR Chris Conley has signed with Kansas City. The Chiefs selected Conley in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. He played four seasons in Kansas City, appearing in 59 games with 36 starts, recording 104 receptions for over 1,200 yards and six touchdown catches. He had one of his best seasons in 2018, working with Patrick Mahomes in his first season as a starter.

“Right now, he’s doing the practice squad thing and then, we’ll just see,” Chiefs HC Reid said of Conley. “It’s great to have him back. It’s great to have (Marcus) Kemp back in here. They’re familiar with what we do and they’re great guys. Good workers.”

Conley left the Chiefs as a free agent following the 2018 NFL season, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars initially. He spent two seasons in Jacksonville, posting a career year in 2019 with 47 catches for 775 yards and five touchdowns. Conley spent the last season in Houston, where he appeared in all 16 games, catching 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns.

It remains to be seen what Conley’s role will be in Kansas City, but he could prove to be valuable depth for the team. He played 211 career special teams snaps with Dave Toub in his prior stint with the team.

Conley joins former Chiefs WR Marcus Kemp, who also recently re-signed to the practice squad after spending time elsewhere. Conley replaces WR Corey Coleman, who was released from the practice squad on Wednesday.

Texans release TE Pharaoh Brown from active roster, WR Chris Conley from practice squad

The Houston Texans have released tight end Pharaoh Brown from the active roster and receiver Chris Conley from the practice squad.

The Houston Texans are retooling their roster at 0-3-1.

The club announced Tuesday they have released tight end Pharaoh Brown and receiver Chris Conley.

Brown, who missed Week 4 with a shoulder and hip injury, caught seven passes for 72 yards through the first three games of the season. Brown started in all three games for the Texans.

Conley was a practice squad standard elevation for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts and Week 2 at the Denver Broncos. The 6-3, 205-pound wideout was targeted twice and played a total of 30 snaps for Houston on offense and one special teams snap.

The Texans play the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time from TIAA Bank Field.

Texans elevate WR Chris Conley, QB Jeff Driskel from practice squad

The Houston Texans have elevated WR Chris Conley and QB Jeff Driskel from the practice squad for their Week 2 encounter with the Denver Broncos.

The Houston Texans made their two standard elevations from the practice squad ahead of their Week 2 matchup with the Denver Broncos Sunday at 3:25 p.m. Central Time at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Texans elevated receiver Chris Conley and quarterback Jeff Driskel, both of whom were active for Houston’s 20-20 tie with the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 at NRG Stadium.

Conley played 10 offensive snaps for the Texans and was targeted twice.

Driskel played two offensive snaps for Houston, carrying the ball once for a 5-yard gain.

The roster moves also indicate that tight end Brevin Jordan (ankle), who was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report, was not left behind in Houston and has a better chance to be active against the Broncos.

Texans release WR Chris Conley to make room for TE O.J. Howard

The Houston Texans have released Chris Conley for the second time this week — this time to make room for tight end O.J. Howard.

The Houston Texans needed room on their 53-man roster for former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills tight end O.J. Howard, and receiver Chris Conley was the odd man out.

The Texans released Conley for the second time this week as they signed the former 2017 first-round pick from Alabama.

The Texans initially released Conley when they had to finalize their 53-man roster on Aug. 30. However, Houston decided to sign Conley to their active roster on Sept. 1.

While Conley was still technically not with the team, general manager Nick Caserio told reporters on Sept. 1 that there was “a pretty good shot” Conley would be back with the organization.

“I think Chris has been a professional since the day that he got here,” Caserio said. “He’s got a good attitude. He’s got a good approach. He’s well-respected by his teammates, well-respected by the coaching staff. I would expect Chris to probably be back around here probably sooner rather than later.”

For now, Conley is not with the Texans. The 6-3, 205-pound wideout caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns for Houston last season through 16 games, 10 of which he started.

Texans WR Chris Conley says rookie CB Derek Stingley picks his brain

Houston Texans wideout Chris Conley says that rookie cornerback Derek Stingley is always asking him for advice on how to better cover receivers.

Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley isn’t learning about the NFL merely through the trial and error process of training camp. The first-round pick is also leaning on advice from veterans.

According to receiver Chris Conley, the No. 3 overall pick from LSU asks him plenty of questions after practice.

“I think that he’s not afraid to ask questions,” Conley told reporters on Aug. 11 at NRG Stadium. “He’s asked me a number of questions after practice. He’s pulled me to the side and asked me what was going through my head.”

It is understandable that Stingley would pick Brandin Cooks’ brain given that the receiver has produced six 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his previous eight in the NFL. However, Stingley is also talking to quarterback Davis Mills, too.

Said Conley: “Because he wants as much information as he can get, and when you take someone who’s willing to learn like that and then you add the athletic ability that I’m sure everyone in this room knows he has, that could be a dangerous combination, and we’re excited to see it.”

Stingley’s previous two seasons at LSU were marred by injury or the overall disjointed reality most people lived with in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. However, the basis for Stingley’s promise in the NFL comes from his freshman season in 2019 when he had 15 pass breakups and six interceptions to help LSU win the CFP National Championship.

If the Texans are able to get that level of athletic ability from Stingley, who is also trying to acquire as much knowledge of the game as he can beforehand, it should help Houston rebuild their secondary in a hurry.

Texans WR Chris Conley excited to see how receiving corps will produce in 2022

Houston Texans wideout Chris Conley is excited to see how the receiving corps will contribute in 2022.

Much has changed with the Houston Texans in a year’s time, but there are still elements that remain the same.

The Texans’ receiving corps is one of them. Second-year quarterback Davis Mills can count on four receivers to suit up in 2022 that were consistently on the field during his rookie season in Brandin Cooks, Chris Moore, Nico Collins, and Chris Conley.

Conley told reporters Aug. 11 after training camp practice inside NRG Stadium that having a majority of the receiving corps carryover the same personnel helps with forging chemistry.

“I think that having the same guys that you’re working with providing that kind of consistency, we have good chemistry,” said Conley. “The guys get along really well. We know how to push each other, and we also know how to work with each other on the field.”

The Texans are running a different offense with Tim Kelly out and Pep Hamilton promoted to the role of offensive coordinator. Nevertheless the cohesion from 2021 helps out as the group learns a new system.

“I think that the Xs and Os changing is a positive for us, but continuing to have that consistency and knowing how to communicate with each other, how to communicate what we’re seeing on the field and what adjustments need to be made, I think that having that for another year is a really good thing for us,” Conley said.

Even though the Texans have undergone changes in a year’s time, the promise of a new season brings expectations of happier Sundays for Houston in the fall.

Said Conley: “I’m extremely excited. I can’t wait to get back out there, obviously new team, new offense, a lot of moving parts. But we’ve put in a lot of work, and hopefully had a lot of positive change, and we’re ready to see what that looks like on the field against another opponent.”

Conley caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns through 16 games last year, 10 of which he started.

WATCH: Texans QB Davis Mills connects with WR Chris Conley at training camp

Quarterback Davis Mills and receiver Chris Conley managed to connect on a pass during the second day of Houston Texans training camp.

The Houston Texans’ passing game is riding entirely on the right arm of second-year quarterback Davis Mills.

The former 2021 third-rounder from Stanford connected with wideout Chris Conley during individual drills on the second day of training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

Receiver Brandin Cooks told reporters on July 29 that he had an appreciation for Conley and wideout Chris Moore, and that he enjoyed seeing them make plays with the ball in their hands.

“You talk about guys, once again, just coming out and making plays from the get-go,” said Cooks. “I got a lot of love for C. Moore and Conley. They do a lot of things that you don’t see and to be able to see them actually make plays with the ball in their hand, it is great to see.”

Conley caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns through 16 games last season, 10 of which he started.
