Angel Reese becomes first WNBA player with back-to-back 20 rebound games

Angel Reese continues to make her mark in the record book as a rookie.

Angel Reese’s dominance on the boards has continued during the back half of her rookie campaign, and the Chicago Sky star set another record on Friday.

With a 13-point, 20-rebound performance in a loss to the Connecticut Sun, Reese also became just the seventh WNBA player with multiple 20-rebound games and the fourth with two in the same season.

Reese set the WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles earlier this season with 15, and she now has 21 double-doubles in 28 career games. That puts her just two away from tying what is the Sky and WNBA rookie single-season record.

She’s also the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 20 double-doubles in a season.

Reese is averaging a mark of 12.6 rebounds per game, a mark that would be the best in a single season in WNBA history. She’s also on pace to set single-season records for total rebounds and offensive rebounds.

Angel Reese just accomplished a statistical feat we haven’t seen in basketball since … Shaq in 1993

Angel Reese continues to make WNBA history.

What did I tell you? The Angel Reese hate needs to stop given what she’s doing in the WNBA as a rookie.

That’s now doubly true for the Chicago Sky forward who now has a Reese’s endorsement deal. Because Reese just grabbed 20 rebounds for a second straight game. Back-to-back 20 board games! THAT’S UNREAL.

Don’t care how she did it. Twenty rebounds is so rare. How rare is it to grab 20 of them in back-to-back games? Here’s your answer: it hasn’t happened in the WNBA OR the NBA since … 1993, when Shaquille O’Neal achieved that feat.

Take a bow, Angel. This is amazing.

The Angel Reese hate needs to stop immediately after her latest WNBA double-double feat

Stop with the Angel Reese hate.

This needs to stop. Now.

Yes, I’ve seen all your compilations of Angel Reese missing shots close to the hoop for the Chicago Sky, and all the hate about her game online.

But you know what? She’s laughing all the way to the hoop when she grabs yet another rebound, putting together another double-double.

Fun fact: with a 19-point and 20-rebound (!!!) performance on Sunday, Reese notched her 20th double-double, and NO ONE in WNBA history has ever gotten to that feat faster than her.

Does that not satisfy you? And if it doesn’t, then why?

Heck, the rookie continues to say all the right things when interviewed, including about the double-double records (“I don’t wanna hear about a record” she said recently). Yet all I see is people scoffing, especially when the Sky don’t win games, which is fine given that they’re rebuilding.

Whatever. Having a player who crashes the boards like she does is seriously valuable — just ask the New York Knicks, who offensive rebounded their way to the East semifinals.

And if you really want to nit-pick about her shot selection? She’s a rookie. Imagine what more she’ll be able to do as the years go on.

But let’s stay in the present, because what she’s done already is astounding and deserving of praise. Enough with the hate, please.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are in NBA2K25 and WNBA fans had mixed reactions about the face scans

This is a major improvement for WNBA video game fans.

If you enjoy playing sports video games, you’ll probably want to get your hands onĀ NBA 2K25Ā once it comes out later this season on September 6.

Although the WNBA season just had its All-Star Game and will soon return to action after a break for the Olympics, basketball fans have not yet had the chance to play as anyone from this exciting rookie class.

That means that those enjoying NBA 2K24 are still playing as the Indiana Fever without Caitlin Clark or the Chicago Sky without Angel Reese. But fortunately, that won’t last much longer as folks will soon get the opportunity to give the game a spin with their favorite first-year pros.

Here is your first look at Indiana’s Clark in the popular video game:

NBA 2K25

They definitely did a good job capturing certain elements of Clark, especially considering it seems she didn’t use a face scan.

Meanwhile, this is your first look at Chicago’s Reese:

Not bad!

In fact, this is perhaps even better than Clark’s likeness.

ESPN predicts WNBA Rookie of the Year race between Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese

Who takes home the hardware?

One of the most hotly contested races of 2024 is the current WNBA Rookie of the Year race between two WNBA stars. The award has all but come down to a two-women race between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

Since entering the league, the two are proving to be groundbreaking stars who are transcending the game. Angel Reese is putting up double-doubles at an insane pace while Caitlin Clark shatters a new record of points, assists, and much more almost every night.

With the WNBA on pause for the Olympics, ESPN looked at the battle for the top rookie between the two and laid out how they think it shakes out.

Caitlin ClarkĀ will win a Rookie of Year race that goes to the wire withĀ Angel Reese

Clark and theĀ Chicago Sky‘s Reese already have had exceptional first seasons and done historical things for rookies. Reese’s streak of 15 double-doubles is the longest by any WNBA player, not just a rookie. Clark, meanwhile, has recorded the first triple-double by a rookie. Each has helped position her team for a playoff spot.

When it comes to the Rookie of the Year race, though, it is challenging to compare them. Statistically, they play entirely different positions: Clark is a point guard, and Reese is a power forward. Clark has the responsibility of initiating offense, which will weigh more heavily with some voters. That said, guards — particularly point guards — traditionally have been undervalued for WNBA individual awards (see:Ā Sue Bird). Others will point to Reese’s consistent production despite all the physical play in the paint. This is likely to be a race to the finish. For me, the edge right now goes to Clark, but both have made good cases and will continue to do so.Ā — Voepel, ESPN

ESPN gives the award to Clark based on her overall impact and production she has brought to the Indiana Fever. Clark is not only scoring, but she is accounting for many of the Fever’s points with her assists totals.

Caitlin Clark is averaging 17.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. Angel Reese is averaging 13.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

Best photos of former LSU star Angel Reese at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game

Angel Reese recorded a double-double coming off the bench in an impressive All-Star Game showing.

LSU already saw one rookie star make an appearance in an All-Star Game earlier this month as [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] started the MLB All-Star Game for the National League, and on Saturday night, it was Angel Reese’s turn.

The Chicago Sky rookie has taken the WNBA by storm, setting a league record for consecutive double-doubles while earning All-Star honors in her first season.

She came off the bench for Team WNBA in a 117-109 upset win over Team USA, but she certainly made an impact in her 18 minutes. She finished with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double as she continues to make her case for Rookie of the Year.

Here are the best photos from Reese at All-Star Weekend.

Marina Mabrey, Kayla McBride compete in WNBA All-Star events

Did you watch?

Notre Dame had some representation to tip off WNBA All-Star festivities over the next couple of days. Two of the three events held Friday in Phoenix featured that representation. Regrettably, it didn’t result in any hardware.

[autotag]Marina Mabrey[/autotag], who was traded from the Chicago Sky at her request earlier this week to the Connecticut Sun, competed in the Skills Challenge, the evening’s first event. You can’t see it that well in the video, but she fumbled a couple of times towards the end, costing her precious time:

The fumbles proved costly as she missed out on the final by two tenths of a second. All she could at that point was look to the 3-Point Contest, but she scored a contest-low 19 points:

Fellow former Irish standout [autotag]Kayla McBride[/autotag] of the Minnesota Lynx came right after her and scored enough points to stay alive:

However, she also didn’t advance to the final, so that was it for Notre Dame fans for the evening. The Atlanta Dream’s Allisha Gray wound up winning both events, becoming the first player to do so on the same night.

McBride and [autotag]Arike Ogunbowale[/autotag] will compete with the rest of the WNBA All-Stars in the All-Star Game on Saturday. They’ll be up against the U.S. Olympic team featuring [autotag]Jackie Young[/autotag] and [autotag]Jewell Loyd[/autotag].
