Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Season series: Tied 2-2

The Cubs beat the Cardinals 9-1 on Saturday, with OF Ian Happ supplying 2 HRs. Chicago extended its winning streak to 4 games on Saturday and it has won 9 of its last 10 contests. The Cubs are 3 games behind the 1st-place Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central.

It was another rough outing for RHP Adam Wainwright on Saturday. He allowed 7 ER on 11 H with 1 BB and 0 K in 3 IP. St. Louis has gone 4-6 in its last 10 games and remains at the bottom of the NL Central.

Cubs vs. Cardinals projected starters

RHP Marcus Stroman vs. LHP Matthew Liberatore

Stroman (9-4, 2.28 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.02 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 98 2/3 innings.

  • Has been credited with a win in 7 straight starts

Cubs vs. Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 7, Cardinals 3

Moneyline

Stroman has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, so I’ll back the CUBS (-140) in Sunday’s divisional matchup. Chicago is also one of the hottest teams in baseball, while St. Louis has been largely disappointing.

Run line/Against the spread

CUBS -1.5 (-105) is an enticing bet with how these teams have performed recently. Chicago is also tied for the 7th-best ISO (.179), the 5th-best wOBA (.339), and the 6th-best wRC+ against left-handed pitching this season.

The Cubs have also outscored their opponents 29-4 amid their current 4-game winning streak.

Over/Under

UNDER 11.5 (-120) is the lean in this game despite London Stadium being viewed as a hitter-friendly park. Stroman has been lights out this season, and even with Wainwright giving up 7 runs himself on Saturday, there were still fewer than 12 runs scored.

Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Cubs (36-38) and the St. Louis Cardinals (31-44) start a 2-game series Saturday in London with the Cardinals serving as the home team. First pitch from London Stadium is set for 1:10 ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: St. Louis leads 2-1

The NL Central has been a buzz this season. After the Pittsburgh Pirates’ early success, the Cincinnati Reds caught fire and jumped into 1st place — behind a 12-game win streak entering Saturday. The Cubs have been hot as well, winning 10 of their last 12 to get withing 2 games of .500.

The Cardinals have received attention this season but for the wrong reasons. They are last in the division one year after winning it. But Cards-Cubs is still a stellar rivalry that MLB is bringing to England.

St. Louis is coming off a 3-0 loss as a -152 road favorite to the lowly Washington Nationals Wednesday — the shutout snapped a Cardinals’ 4-game win streak, though they’re 4-7 in their last 11 games.

The Cubs are coming off a 3-game sweep of the Pirates, capped by an 8-3 victory as slight -112 road favorites Wednesday.

Cubs vs. Cardinals projected starters

LHP Justin Steele vs. RHP Adam Wainwright

Steele (7-2, 2.71 ERA) makes his 14th start of the season. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 73 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 3-2 home victory vs. Baltimore Orioles last Saturday
  • Only allowed 3 homers this season
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 1-1, 5.00 ERA (18 IP, 10 ER), 1.61 WHIP, 4.5 K/9 in 3 starts, including 10-4 home victory in his only start vs. Cards this season (6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K)

Wainwright (3-1, 5.56 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.67 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 4.9 K/9 in 43 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 5-3 road win vs. the New York Mets last Saturday
  • Whether pitching at home or on road, Wainwright allows .323 batting average
  • Career vs. Cubs (regular season): 19-14, 3.84 ERA (302 1/3 IP, 129 ER), 1.29 WHIP, 7.5 K/9 in 57 games (48 starts)
  • 2022 vs. Cubs: 2-1, 2.88 ERA (25 IP, 8 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 3.2 K/9 in 4 starts

Cubs vs. Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 6, Cardinals 5

Moneyline

BET CUBS (-135).

The Cubs’ bats showed up in their recent 3-game sweep at the Pirates, totaling 20 runs. Plus, the pitching staff tossed 2 shutouts.

Chicago is cookin’ on both sides of the ball. Expect it to continue Saturday across the pond vs. struggling St. Louis.

Run line/Against the spread

Just because the Cubs are the better team on paper doesn’t mean the Cardinals won’t keep it close. St. Louis is one of the better teams as an underdog, posting a 19-10 ATS record.

Since I’m backing the Cubs moneyline, I will PASS on the spread.

But if interested in a 9-to-1 payoff, consider grabbing CUBS TO WIN BY 1 RUN (+900) for a small wager.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Both teams on the road tend to cash Under tickets.

The Under is 20-17 for the Cubs when they’re away from the friendly confines, while the Under is 24-16-1 for the Cardinals away from Busch Stadium.

On top of that, the Under is 6-1 for the Cubs in their last 7 games against sub-.500 teams.

There have been just 2 MLB games in London in the past when the New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox in 2019. Both contests were high-scoring as New York claimed 17-13 and 12-8 victories.

Some sportsbooks have slightly juiced the Under for Saturday’s Cubs-Cardinals matchup — FanDuel Sportsbook has an Under of 13.5 posted with -115 juice.

BET UNDER 14 (-115) at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Season series: St. Louis leads 12-6

After the Chicago Cubs took a 3-run lead in the 1st inning of Saturday’s game, the St. Louis Cardinals responded almost immediately. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 1st and then 6 in the 3rd to win 8-4. Cardinals 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit his 34th HR in the victory.

Cubs at Cardinals nickname picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Cubs 3

Money line

The last time the Cubs were swept it was at the hands of the Cardinals in early August, and history should repeat itself. The lines are too juiced to pick St. Louis so it’s best to AVOID.

Run line/Against the spread

St. Louis is 25-18 ATS as a home favorite, the 2nd-best record in baseball.

The Cubs cover 46.7% (35-40) of the time after a loss.

LEAN CARDINALS -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under

Recent trends point to both teams hitting the Over in game 3 of a series.

It’s 8-1 in the last 9 game 3s for the Cardinals; it’s 3-1 in the last 4 game 3s for the Cubs.

The Cubs have also gone Over in 4 of their past 6 overall while the Cardinals went Over in 5 of their last 6 home games.

BET OVER 7.5 (+100).

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

The Chicago Cubs (56-75) and the St. Louis Cardinals (76-55) begin a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Busch Stadium is at 8:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Cardinals lead 10-6

The Cubs have lost 4 of their last 5 games but they took down the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 on the road in their last contest Wednesday. Chicago pitched a bullpen game Wednesday and every starter got a hit except for 3B Christopher Morel.

The Cardinals have won 6 of their last 10 contests. They outscored the Cincinnati Reds 19-12 and took 2 of 3 contests in a 3-game road series to start the week.

RHP Adrian Sampson vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery

Sampson (1-4, 3.97 ERA) makes his 13th start and 15th appearance. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 through 65 2/3 IP.

  • Owns an 8.10 ERA and a .407 BABIP in his last 6 2/3 IP spanning 2 starts
  • Aug. 23 vs. St. Louis: 3 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 2 HR, 0 K

Montgomery (7-3, 3.28 ERA) makes his 6th start for St. Louis and 27th start overall. He has a 1.04 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 through 145 1/3 IP.

  • Has posted a 1.76 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP across his first 5 starts for the Cardinals

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 8, Cubs 3

Money line

The Cardinals (-250) are favored for a reason in this matchup, but I’ll PASS on the money line at the current odds. You would have to place a $250 wager just to get $100 back which isn’t a good long-term strategy.

Run line/Against the spread

The run line is where I would focus my attention in this game. Being able to get the CARDINALS -1.5 (-112) at fantastic odds feels pretty generous.

If you don’t trust St. Louis to cover the spread for the entire game, you can take CARDINALS -0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (-150) instead. It helps that the Cardinals are 4-0 in Montgomery’s 4 home starts for the team.

Over/Under

The wind is expected to be blowing out to left field in Friday’s showdown and Sampson owns a 1.84 HR/9 against right-handed batters, so OVER 7.5 RUNS (-130) seems to be a logical bet as St. Louis has quite a few talented righties that could result in them hitting the Over themselves.

The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 home games for the Cardinals when they face a right-handed pitcher.

The Chicago Cubs (41-61) and St. Louis Cardinals (55-48) end their 3-game series at Busch Stadium with the second game of a doubleheader Thursday. First pitch for the nightcap is slated for 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

(Stats don’t include Thursday’s first game of the doubleheader).

Season series: Cardinals lead 5-4

Wednesday’s game was postponed due to weather, giving both teams a night off. Unfortunately for both clubs, they struggle after a day of rest – the Cubs are 3-9 after a day off; the Cards are 5-8.

The Cubs come into Thursday’s doubleheader scoreless in their past 2 games. While the Cubs are out of playoff contention, the Cardinals are 1½ games behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers.

Newcomb (0-0, 11.57 ERA) will make his 1st start and 8th appearance this season. He pitched 3 games for the Atlanta Braves before being traded to Chicago April 21. Between the 2 clubs, he owns a 2.36 WHIP, 5.8 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in 9 1/3 IP.

  • 16.62 ERA (4 1/3 IP, 8 ER, 4 games) since traded to Cubs
  • Allows 1.32 OPS in away games this year

Quintana (3-5, 3.50 ERA) will make his 21st start of the year. He has a 1.27 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 103 IP.

  • 3.67 ERA (27 IP, 11 ER, 5 games) in July

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Cubs 4

Money line

The Cardinals are 3-0 in the 2nd game of a doubleheader this season. The Cubs, on the other hand, are 0-4.

The Cardinals are 4th in the NL in batting average (.252) and should come out swinging before their next series, a 3-game home set with the New York Yankees.

Run line/Against the spread

In his 3 wins this season, Quintana has allowed just 1 run. With the Cubs most likely treating the nightcap as a bullpen game, the Cardinals have a great matchup, especially since relief pitching was the only position the Cubs sold off at the trade deadline.

With the Cardinals a perfect 3-0 ATS in the 2nd game of a doubleheader, LEAN CARDINALS -1.5 (+122).

Over/Under

In the final game of a doubleheader, both the Cubs (2-1-1 O/U) and Cardinals (2-1 O/U) hit the Over 66.7% of the time despite their recent trend toward the Unders – the Cubs are 1-7 O/U in their last 8 games overall; the Cards are 2-6 O/U in their last 8.

LEAN OVER 8.5 (-102).

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Chicago Cubs (41-61) and St. Louis Cardinals (55-48) resume their 3-game series at Busch Stadium Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Cardinals lead 5-4

Despite keeping C Willson Contreras and LF Ian Happ at the end of the trade deadline the Cubs were unable to score in their 2nd straight game, losing 6-0.

The Cardinals took an early lead and put the game away thanks to home runs from 1B Paul Goldschmidt, RF Dylan Carlson, and 3B Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals, buyers at the deadline, are now 2 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers and will try to use their momentum to close the gap.

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Cubs 3

Money line

Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas is 4-2 at home this season with an opponent batting average of .192 vs .241 in away games.

Mikolas also throws more efficiently posting a 5.1 strikeout to walk ratio vs 3.0 away. That being said, the juice is still strong. A more practical bet is CARDINALS 1st 5 INNING WINNER (-118).

Run line/Against the spread

St. Louis is the 3rd best team in MLB at covering when they are the home favorite. The downside is 3rd best in MLB means just 51% ATS. The Cubs still have a majority of their roster that beat these Cardinals 4 out of 9 times.  AVOID.

Over/Under

Every trend points to the UNDER 8.5 (-125).

St. Louis hits the Under 10 of the last 13 games against a left-handed pitcher. They also go Under 6 of the last 8 games when their opponent scores 2 or fewer in their last game.

The Cubs have gone Under 5 of the 6 times after a loss, and they are 7-1 overall in their last 8 games.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Chicago Cubs (41-60) and St. Louis Cardinals (54-48) open a 3-game series at Busch Stadium Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 4-4

The Cubs came into the trade deadline as obvious sellers despite coming out of the All-Star break with a 6-3 record. All 3 losses came at the San Fransisco Giants where Chicago averaged just 2.5 runs per game through the entire 4-game series.

The Cardinals sit 3 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. St. Louis took 2-of-3 games at the Washington Nationals over the weekend, including a 5-0 shutout in the series finale Sunday.

Cubs at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Keegan Thompson vs. RHP Adam Wainwright

Thompson (8-4, 3.16 ERA) has appeared in 21 games (13 as a starter). He has posted a 1.20 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 through 88 1/3 IP.

  • 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA over his last 4 starts.
  • Has a 4.40 ERA on the road across 6 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Wainwright (7-8, 3.28 ERA) will make his 21st start. He has a 1.21 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 through 123 1/3 IP.

  • The St. Louis Cardinals average over 5 runs in support when Wainwright pitches.
  • Last start: 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB and 8 K in a 6-1 win at the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday.

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Cubs 3

Money line

The juice is a bit high for this matchup, and with the Chicago Cubs oddly surging its best to AVOID.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN CUBS +1.5 (-145).

The Cubs cover 61% of the time as road underdogs. The Cardinals on the flip side struggle to cover, especially after a day off.

Although the Cubs are 19 games under .500 they have a winning record against the NL Central (22-21) and even if they can’t win, should keep this game close.

Over/Under

While the average run support for Tuesday’s starters exceeds 9 runs, there are a lot of reasons to BET THE UNDER 8.5 (-120).

The Under has hit 4 of the last 5 games after a loss for the Cubs. The Cardinals have posted Unders in 4 of their last 5 games against sub-.500 teams.

The Cubs also struggle to score when given a day off, going Under 81.8% of the time. The Cardinals have a similar problem, hitting the Under in 72.7% of their games after a day of rest.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Chicago Cubs (26-44) roll into Busch Stadium Friday to begin a 3-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals (40-32) at 8:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Chicago is 3-7 straight up (SU) in the last 10 games and lost 3 of a 4-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday-Thursday.

St. Louis is 5-5 SU in the last 10 but took 2 of a 4-game set at the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week.

The Cardinals lead the season series with the Cubs 3-2, and St. Louis has a plus-7 run differential in those meetings.

Cubs at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Kyle Hendricks vs. RHP Andre Pallante

Hendricks is 2-6 with a 5.43 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 in 68 IP over 13 starts.

  • Last start: Loss, 6-0, Sunday at home vs. the Atlanta Braves with 4 1/3 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 2 HR, 1 BB and 6 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Cardinals: 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA (25 1/3 IP, 7 ER), 2 HR, 1.11 WHIP and 3.6 K in 4 starts.
  • Hendricks owns STL with a 12-3 record and a 2.82 ERA in 24 career starts

Pallante is 2-2 with a 1.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 6.1 K/9 in 42 2/3 IP across 3 starts and 18 relief appearances.

  • Last start: Loss, 6-4, Sunday at the Boston Red Sox with 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 HR, 1 BB and 4 K.
  • 2022 vs. the Cubs: One start — a no-decision in Chicago’s 7-4 home loss June 4 — with 4 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 4 BB and 2 K.

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Cubs +1.5 (-150) | Cardinals -1.5 (+122)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 9.5 (O: +110 | U: -135)

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 4, Cardinals 3

Money line

BET the CUBS (+133) because they have an edge over the Cardinals in the starting and relief pitching departments, and there’s a line freeze in the betting market.

Hendricks has always pitched well in Busch Stadium and the Cubs are 8-3 SU with Hendricks on the mound in St. Louis. Chicago has a plus-49.2% return on investment (ROI) in those games and an average final score of 4.82-2.73.

Also, Chicago’s bullpen ranks ahead of St. Louis’ in a few advanced pitching categories such as xFIP (4.16-3.59), K/BB rate (2.96-2.29) and contact rate (77.6-75.0%), according to FanGraphs.

Finally, more than 90% of the money is on St. Louis (per Pregame.com) yet the line hasn’t budged off the opener. This suspicious non-line movement suggests oddsmakers are trying to entice more pro-Cardinals action.

BET 0.75 units on the CUBS (+133).

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN to the CUBS +1.5 (-150) only because I prefer Chicago’s ML. But, the Cubs are 9-2 RL in Hendricks’ 11 career starts in St. Louis with a plus-40.2% ROI and 16-9 RL as road underdogs this year. Also, all 6 of the Cubs-Cardinals meetings earlier this season have been decided by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 9.5 (-135).

The Cubs are 4-7 O/U in Hendricks’ 11 starts this year, and the Cardinals score fewer runs per 9 innings vs. righties compared to lefties (5.88-4.65).

If I were to rank my favorite bets in this game, it’d go 1- Cubs ML, 2- UNDER 9.5 (-135) and 3- Cubs RL.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Chicago Cubs (47-49) and St. Louis Cardinals (48-48) play the finale of a four-game set Thursday at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Adbert Alzolay is the projected starting pitcher for the Cubs. He is 4-9 with a 4.59 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 over 82 1/3 innings across 16 starts.

Alzolay has dropped his past five decisions and hasn’t won in his last six outings. He was on the short end of a 2-1 decision in St. Louis May 22, allowing two runs, five hits and no walks with six strikeouts across seven innings.

LHP Kwang Hyun Kim is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 5-5 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 across 78 1/3 innings in 16 starts.

Kim has been on fire lately, winning each of his past four outings. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last three starts, spanning 19 innings. That includes six scoreless innings with five hits and a walk allowed July 10 at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 4:43 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cubs +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Cardinals -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cubs +1.5 (-185) | Cardinals -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Cubs 1

Money line (ML)

The CARDINALS (-135) are the play behind the red-hot Kim, who hasn’t allowed a run in the month of July. He’ll be working opposite Alzolay, who has certainly been a little more giving.

Look for the CARDS (-135) to take care of their bitter rivals in this series finale.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The CARDINALS -1.5 (+150) are a great play. In three of its past four victories, St. Louis has covered the run line. That includes Monday’s 8-3 win over the Cubs in the series opener.

During Kim’s four-start win streak, the Cardinals have outscored the opposition 21-8, winning by two or more runs in each outing.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8.5 (-115) is the lean. The Under is 3-1-1 across the past five starts by Alzolay, and 6-2-2 across his past 10 outings.

The Under has hit in the past two starts by Kim, too. As mentioned above, he hasn’t allowed any runs in three July outings.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Chicago Cubs (46-48) and St. Louis Cardinals (47-47) play the second game of a four-game set Tuesday at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Trevor Williams is the projected starting pitcher for the Cubs. He is 3-2 with a 5.51 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 9.9 K/9 and 4.0 BB/9 over 47 1/3 IP across 10 starts and 1 relief appearances.

Williams was tagged for seven runs (three earned) and six hits with a walk and three strikeouts across 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies July 6.

RHP Johan Oviedo is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 0-5 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 across 53 IP in 11 starts and 1 relief appearances.

Oviedo last appeared July 7 in San Francisco allowing two runs, three hits and four walks across four innings in a loss. He faced the Cubs on the road June 11 coughing up four runs, five hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision.

Cubs at Cardinals odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cubs -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Cardinals -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cubs -1.5 (+145) | Cardinals +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Cubs 7, Cardinals 5

Money line (ML)

The CUBS (-115) were blasted 8-3 in Monday’s series opener. Chicago should be able to rebound behind Williams, but it will certainly be an adventure with a lot of runs.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The CUBS -1.5 (+145) were the suggestion in the opener, and they fell flat on their faces. When you take a loss in betting, you have to have a short memory. Go right back to the well and play the Cubbies again Tuesday as I don’t trust the Cardinals +1.5 (-175) starting pitcher to be anything close to effective.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 8.5 (-120) is the play in Tuesday’s game. While the wind is blowing in from the left-center field power alley, we still have two erratic pitchers toeing the slab. So you can expect more than 10 runs in this one.
