Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Chicago Bulls (6-8) visit the Charlotte Hornets (6-8) at the Spectrum Center Friday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Bulls-Hornets NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Chicago has won back-to-back games at the Dallas Mavericks and against the Houston Rockets coming out of a four-game losing streak. The Bulls have been cashing for bettors backing Chicago plus points (8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games).

Quietly the Bulls have played some of the best offense in the Association under first-year head coach Billy Donovan: Chicago is fourth in points per game, seventh in effective field goal percentage and eighth in free throw attempt rate.

Since going on a four-game winning streak to get above .500, the Hornets have lost three straight (2-1 ATS) coming into Friday’s game. The losses came against teams off to a bumpy start (one loss to the Mavericks and back-to-back losses to the Toronto Raptors) but are expected to contend for the playoffs in their respective conferences.

Charlotte’s last game was Jan. 16 since their Jan. 20th scheduled game with the Washington Wizards was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within Washington. Like the Bulls, the Hornets have been a covering machine and are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games.

Before Donovan being hired by Chicago, Charlotte has dominated the Bulls head-to-head in recent seasons: The Hornets are 5-1 straight-up (6-0 ATS) in their last six meetings.

Bulls at Hornets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hornet 118, Bulls 110

Money line (ML)

LEAN HORNETS (-150) only because I’d rather lose the chalk and lay the points. It’s a close one, though, and if you decided to take Charlotte to win outright, I wouldn’t hate it.

Against the spread (ATS)

I’m on HORNETS -2.5 (-115) for 1.5 units, and I gave this pick out on this week’s Bet Slippin’ Podcast, so check that out if you want more analysis. Anywho.

This is more of a working theory than tried and true, but I have more faith in bad offenses being able to score on bad defenses than bad defenses stopping bad offenses in the current NBA. For example, Charlotte is just 21st in offensive rating but ninth in defensive rating while Chicago is 13th in offensive rating and 26th in defensive rating.

The Hornets’ defensive intensity can translate easier over to this game because defense relies predominantly on effort whereas teams have off nights offensively for a bevy of reasons. Including because of good defense, which Charlotte does well.

Finally, this could be a look-ahead spot for the Bulls who are hosting the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics in the next two games.

Over/Under (O/U)

BetMGM is sharp with this total. I was hoping to get a Hornets-Bulls total of around 225, but I can work with this price. As much as Charlotte would probably not want to get into a shootout with Chicago, it’s probably going to happen.

But you see my prediction above and it’s hovering around the projected total so I only LEAN OVER 228.5 (-110) for a tiny wager.

Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Rockets (4-7) are in the Windy City Martin Luther King Jr. Day for an 8 p.m. ET game against the Chicago Bulls (5-8) at United Center. Below, we analyze the Rockets-Bulls NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Rockets split a two-game set at the San Antonio Spurs (1-1 against the spread) coming into Monday’s game. Houston traded former MVP James Harden as part of a four-way deal in which it received SG Victor Oladipo from the Indiana Pacers amongst other compensation. Oladipo is expected to make his Rockets debut Monday.

The Bulls snapped a four-game losing streak (3-1 ATS) by upsetting another Southwest Division team—the Dallas Mavericks—Sunday. Chicago went into its meeting with Dallas as a 6.5-point underdog but wrecked the Mavericks by 16 points, 117-101, with aggressiveness and ball movement. The Bulls attempted 14 more free throws (33-19 advantage in free-throw attempts) and threw 14 more assists (32-18 in assists).

Houston crushed Chicago 117-94 in the only regular-season meeting last season and the Rockets have covered five of their past six games vs. the Bulls. Obviously, the recent head-to-head history between the two is less meaningful since Harden is no longer with Houston following a nine-year stint.

Rockets at Bulls: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chicago 119, Rockets 110

Money line (ML)

The Bulls have a ton of talent and they are starting to play well under first-year head coach Billy Donovan. Chicago is exceeding bookmakers’ expectations this season (9-4 ATS) despite playing the seventh-toughest schedule.

Houston is starting a new chapter and neither newly acquired PGs Exum (part of the Harden trade) and Wall (part of the Russell Westbrook trade) are available to play. This Bulls team has lost single-possession games vs. both Los Angeles teams recently and looked really in sync in its last game.

I’ll go with Chicago’s momentum and run with the BULLS (-120) for 1.5 units.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE SPREAD.

While it’s understandable to be concerned about betting a team playing the second of a back-to-back, let me put you at ease for this situation. Chicago had its game against the Boston Celtics last week postponed and the Bulls had PF Lauri Markkanen return against the Oklahoma City Thunder Friday. It’s hard to imagine the Bulls are suffering from much fatigue.

Over/Under (O/U)

If a line is posted, I lean OVER up to 226.5 for a half-unit because any team can score against this terrible Chicago defense and the offense has strung together five straight 117-plus-point performances.

Chicago Bulls at Dallas Mavericks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Chicago Bulls at Dallas Mavericks NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Dallas Mavericks (6-5) host the Chicago Bulls (4-8) Sunday at American Airlines Center for a 3 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Bulls-Mavericks NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Mavericks had a four-game win streak snapped with a 112-109 loss at the Milwaukee Bucks Friday. Each of their previous four wins were decided by at least 7 points.

The Bulls have dropped four straight decisions, including a 127-125 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder Friday. All four losses were within a 4-point margin.

Bulls at Mavericks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Mavericks 128, Bulls 115

Money line (ML)

The Bulls have been playing their best basketball but in one of the toughest stretches of the schedule they’ll have all season. They lost 117-115 to the Los Angeles Lakers and 130-127 to the Los Angeles Clippers. Chicago covered the spread as an underdog of 8.5 and 12 points, respectively.

Still, Dallas has been winning with authority and has flawlessly reincorporated Porzingis into the lineup. Through two games, he’s averaging 15.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. PG Luka Doncic continues to lead the way for the Mavericks with 27.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG and 8.8 assists per game.

The Mavericks should win this against an inferior team, but the Bulls’ recent performances against elite Western Conference competition are enough reason to steer clear of the -275 money line price. We’ll get better value on the spread.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

Get the MAVERICKS -7.5 (+100) as a solid value while needing to win by at least 8 points. Chicago covered the spread in eight of its last 10 games to improve to 8-4 ATS for the season, but Dallas is also 7-4 ATS and has covered in five straight games coming into Sunday.

The Mavs take better care of the ball and are the superior rebounding team. They hold opponents to the third-worst field-goal percentage in the NBA while the Bulls allow opponents to hit on 47.8% of field-goal attempts to rank 24th in the Association.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 227.5 (-110). The matinee tip will likely be a better defense against scoring than either of these teams will provide. Chicago has played to four straight Overs and is 8-4 against the O/U for the season.

Bulls at Thunder: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bulls 110, Thunder 109

Money line (ML)

The BULLS (+100) are slight road underdogs. Chicago has lost three straight games, but two of those losses came in Los Angeles against the Lakers and Clippers. The Bulls lost by a combined five points in those two games.

Despite the lesser record, the Bulls are the better team. Expect them to win outright as the Thunder have lost five straight home games.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BULLS +1.5 (-110) are less than 1 basket underdogs. This is a bit surprising considering Chicago has covered the spread in five straight games. On the season, the Bulls are 8-3 against the spread, while the Thunder are 6-5 ATS.

Expect this to be a close game throughout, but for the Bulls to cover.

Over/Under (O/U)

Chicago is averaging 116.1 points per game, the fifth-most in the NBA. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City is averaging just 104.1 points per game, third-worst in the NBA. Look for both teams to approach 110 or so points in this game, but for the UNDER 224.5 (-110) to hit.

Bulls at Clippers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 117, Bulls 102

Money line (ML)

The Clippers (-750) are huge money line favorites in this game despite just a 6-4 record on the season. It’s clear who is the better team here, but the records aren’t all that different. The Clippers should have no problem winning this game, but we’ve already seen them be upset by teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors this season.

Given how streaky Los Angles can be on a night-to-night basis, PASS on the money line here in favor of the point spread as it just doesn’t provide enough value for a potential payout.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CLIPPERS -11.5 (-110) are double-digit favorites Sunday afternoon and it’s not hard to see why. They have a healthy roster, an explosive offense and several of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA.

They are also facing a Chicago team allowing 120.2 points per game this season. Expect this game to be close for a while, but for the Clippers to assert their dominance in the second half and cover this spread to win by at least 12 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Both teams are averaging at least 110 PPG with the Bulls currently sixth in scoring offense. With Chicago without several players, the Bulls could be in a bit of trouble against Los Angeles’ defense.

For that reason, take the UNDER 221.5 (-105).

Chicago Bulls at Sacramento Kings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Chicago Bulls at Sacramento Kings NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Sacramento Kings (3-4) begin a seven-game homestand by hosting the Chicago Bulls (4-4) at the Golden 1 Center for a 10 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Bulls-Kings NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Kings came out the gate hot starting 2-1 but are currently on a three-game losing streak with the latest being a 31-point road blowout to the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 4. Sacramento took an ole fashion Warriors whooping with Golden State hitting 52.6% of their shots (53.5% from three) and throwing 41 assists in the Kings’ 137-106 loss this past Monday.

Chicago has recovered from an expected 0-3 start to win four of its last five games. The Bulls rallied from an 18-point first-quarter deficit to upset the Portland Trail Blazers as 9.5-point road underdogs 111-108 last night. Bulls-Kings is Chicago’s third in a four-game West Coast trip.

The home team won and covered both meetings in last year’s season series. However, this head-to-head has been fairly one-sided recently as the Kings are five of the last six, including a 5-1-0 ATS record in those games.

Bulls at Kings: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:35 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Bulls +230 (bet $100 to win $230) | Kings -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Bulls +7.5 (-120) | Kings +7.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 229.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Bulls at Kings: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. I am leaning toward the Bulls plus the points but I do think the Kings pull this one out with Chicago playing the second of a back-to-back and being without a few contributors.

Against the spread (ATS)

This whole Sacramento thing stinks and the Kings should not be laying 7.5 against anyone in the NBA. Kings PF Marvin Bagley‘s father tweeted out for Sacramento to trade his son and the team’s third-leading scorer SG Buddy Hield has reportedly been disgruntled with his role on the team and open to a trade.

I only lean BULLS +7.5 (-120) for a half-unit because I am nervous as to why this line this high and you could argue that Sacramento’s results are more of a product of its tough schedule.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 229.5 (-110) for 1 unit is my favorite play in Bulls-Kings. Both teams are bottom-10 in opponent’s points per game and defensive rating. They both play at an above-average pace with Chicago having the second-fastest pace in the Association. Also, both teams are in the top-10 in free throw rate so we can see a bunch of points scored while the clock has stopped.

Bulls at Trail Blazers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Trail Blazers 119, Bulls 111

Money line (ML)

The Trail Blazers (-450) should be able to push past the Bulls (+350) in their return to Rip City after dropping two of the past three on the road. However, putting up four-and-a-half times your potential return on a team that is just .500 overall is not worth the tremendous risk. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BULLS +9.5 (-110) have won three of their past four games straight-up, including a 10-point win over Western Conference-contender Dallas last time out. Chicago has also covered four of the past five, all as an underdog of 3.5 or more points. The Blazers -9.5 (-110) might win at home, but Chicago will do enough to keep it in single digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

There is a slight lean to the UNDER 233.5 (-105), but only play a small-unit wager. Chicago’s defense is a dismal 30th in the NBA, allowing 121.3 PPG, and Portland’s offense puts up 115.5 PPG, ranking eighth in the league. They’re also yielding 119.3 PPG, 26th in the league, and all of those numbers mean this won’t be a defensive slog. Look for a total right around 230, so it’s going to be close.

Mavericks at Bulls: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Mavericks 119, Bulls 115

Money line (ML)

Officially, I’ll PASS on the money line but if I had to go either way it’d be the Bulls (+200) because I am taking Chicago plus the points. Typically I’d like to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover the spread and I still might pending the final injury reports.

Against the spread (ATS)

Dallas’ defense showed up against the Miami Heat (or the Heat’s offense pulled a no-show) in its 93-83 win as a 1.5-point underdog on New Year’s Day. The Mavericks held the Heat to just 37.2% from the field, 21.2% from behind the 3-point arc and outrebounded them 59-49.

The Bulls were trampled by the Milwaukee Bucks as 14.5-point underdogs in a 126-96 loss Jan. 1. Chicago was on a two-game winning streak, but both were against a then-winless Washington Wizards team.

Despite Doncic averaging 30.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists in two games against the Bulls last year, Chicago split the season series and held a 1-1-0 ATS edge.

This is a perfect fade the market spot: 85% of the money is coming in on the Mavericks, according to Pregame.com, which caused Dallas to move up from a 5.5-point opening line favorite. This would be more of a lock if the Mavericks spent a weekend night in a normal (fun) Chicago nightlife but obviously, it’s pretty tough for a professional athlete to navigate the social scene given the circumstances.

Furthermore, I am selling Mavericks stock until they start to put together consecutive quality performances. GIMME BULLS +6.5 (-115) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

Heading into Sunday’s game with Chicago, Dallas has the sixth-best defensive efficiency in the league; however, I am not sure how real that defensive production is for the Mavericks.

Again, Miami shot terribly more than Dallas stifled them on D. The Mavericks gave up 118 points to the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday and Charlotte is 21st in offensive efficiency. That 124-73 win over the Clippers on Dec. 27 is as random as it gets.

Lastly, we might be getting value because of the Under cashing in five straight Mavericks-Bulls games in Chicago. I think the trend ends Sunday so I’ll lean OVER 224.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Chicago Bulls (2-3) visit the Milwaukee Bucks (2-3) Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Bulls-Bucks NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

After an 0-3 start, the Bulls took two on the road from the winless Washington Wizards (0-5), including Thursday’s 133-130 victory as 7.5-point underdogs. SF Otto Porter scored 28 points and SG Zach LaVine added 22 for a short-handed Chicago squad. PF Lauri Markkanen, SF Chandler Hutchison, PG Ryan Arcidiacono and SG Tomas Satoransky sat out due to the NBA’s health and safety protocol.

The Bucks are coming off a 119-108 road loss as 6.5-point favorites at the Miami Heat Wednesday, one night after routing the Heat 144-97 behind an NBA-record 29 3-pointers. In the loss, Milwaukee blew a third-quarter, 12-point lead, PF Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded a triple-double (26 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) and SF Khris Middleton struggled on 3-for-15 shooting to finish with 8 points. Middleton scored 25 in Tuesday’s blowout, going 10-for-13 from the floor, including 4-for-5 on 3-pointers.

Milwaukee swept last season’s series vs. Chicago 4-0, winning by margins of 9, 14, 21 and 13. As a matter of fact, the Bucks have won the last 10 in a row vs. the Bulls, sweeping 4 games in 2018-19, too, and taking the final two of their four head-to-head games in 2017-18.

Bulls at Bucks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bucks 131, Bulls 111

Money line (ML)

PASS. The Bucks (-2000) shouldn’t have a problem taking this one, but there’s no way anyone should risk 20 times the potential return.

Against the spread (ATS)

MILWAUKEE -14.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Bucks are rested and should be a little bitter after Wednesday’s loss in Miami.

As for the Bulls? Playing on back-to-back nights minus four players and having to travel from D.C. to Milwaukee after Thursday night’s win is a tough task for any team. While they played well at Washington, notching two wins, expect them to run out of gas in the second half at Milwaukee.

ATS records: Bulls 3-2 | Bucks 2-3

Over/Under (O/U)

This could turn into a laugher, but the scoring shouldn’t be an issue. Back the OVER 231.5 (-115). The Bucks’ 124.2 points per game rank second in the league, while the Bulls defense is allowing 123.0 PPG to rank 28th.

O/U records: Bulls 3-2 | Bucks 4-1

Bulls at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 121, Bulls 117

Money line (ML)

Chicago took down Washington 115-107 in their first meeting Tuesday. The game was decided, as most NBA games are nowadays, by how each side did behind the arc: The Wizards made 10 threes at a 27% clip while the Bulls sunk 15 of their 36 3-point attempts (41.7%).

As we’ve seen in the NBA over the past week, it’s hard to beat the same team twice in a row. There’s going to be a lot of head-to-head doubleheaders this year in the NBA due to the COVID-altered climate, and there has been plenty of examples already of how hard it is for teams to sweep these back-to-backs.

The Wizards are getting back a key contributor in second-year starting PF Rui Hachimura, who makes his season debut after missing the first four games of the season due to an eye issue.

Officially, I’ll PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. I lean Washington plus the points, but I don’t like them enough in this spot to sprinkle on the money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

Neither one of these franchises has made the playoffs over the past couple of years, but interestingly enough the Chicago has a 5-2 record against Washington when Bulls SG Zach LaVine and Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal face-off.

Also, Washington is 6-1 ATS in the last seven games vs. Chicago. I only lean BULLS +5.5 (-110) for a half-unit because I prefer the total in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

Since their first meeting Tuesday went Under the total by 16 points, there’s value in BETTING OVER 234.5 (-110) in today’s game. Chicago and Washington have the second-and third-fastest pace in the NBA, and both teams have a below-average defensive rating.

Another reason to like the Over is that both teams send opponents to the charity stripe at an alarming rate. Washington’s defense has the highest free throw-to-field goal attempt rate in the league and Chicago is 2nd FTA/FGA as an offense, but the Bulls’ defense is ranked 25th in FTA/FGA.
