Season series: Mavericks lead 1-0

Dallas is on a 2-game winning streak after handling the Detroit Pistons 142-124 Saturday and covering as an 8.5-point road favorite. G Luka Doncic led all scorers with 39 points and added 10 rebounds and 10 assists to become the 1st player in NBA history to record 6 consecutive 30 point triple-doubles. Five Mavericks players scored in double figures as the team shot 55.4% from the field in the win.

Chicago snapped a 3-game winning streak with a 112-102 loss against the LA Clippers Saturday while failing to cover as an 8-point road underdog. F DeMar DeRozan scored a game-high 24 points while dishing out 10 assists for a double-double. C Nikola Vucevic (22 points, 11 rebounds) also had a double-double as the Bulls shot 43% from the field in the loss.

Mavericks at Bulls picks and predictions

Prediction

Mavericks 124, Bulls 116

Moneyline

PASS.

There is more profit to be made betting the Mavericks (-175) spread.

Against the spread

BET MAVERICKS -3.5 (-115).

Dallas has won and covered in back-to-back games and is 3-1 ATS in its last 4. With Doncic on a red-hot tear and going against a Chicago offense that has been shaky recently, expect Dallas to take advantage.

Chicago is just 1-3 ATS in its last 4 home games.

Over/Under

BET OVER 232.5 (-115).

The Mavericks are coming off a 142-point showing and have scored 119 or more in 5 of their last 9. They have allowed 120 or more in 7 of their last 8 and have hit the Over in 5 of their last 7.

Chicago has hit the Over in 2 of its last 3 and scored 119 or more in each of those games. While its offense has had a wide range of scoring in recent games, expect a quicker pace at home against the Mavs Monday.

Dallas Mavericks at Chicago Bulls odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Dallas Mavericks at Chicago Bulls odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Mavericks (7-3) visit the “Windy City” Wednesday for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off against the Chicago Bulls (7-3) at the United Center. Below, we look at the Mavericks vs. Bulls odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Dallas has won four of the past five games including three straight against the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, and New Orleans Pelicans. The Mavs are 3-7 ATS and 1-8-1 O/U with the 21st-ranked net rating (minus-2.3).

Chicago lost a back-to-back home-and-away to the Philadelphia 76ers before crushing the Brooklyn Nets 118-95 as 1-point home underdogs Monday. The Bulls are 7-3 ATS and 4-6 O/U with the fourth-best net rating (plus-6.9).

The Bulls have beaten the Mavs in three consecutive meetings (3-0 ATS). Chicago guard Zach LaVine put up 24.5 points and 7.5 assists per game with a plus-20 net rating in the two Mavericks-Bulls games last season.

Mavericks at Bulls odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 108, Mavericks 106

Money line

PASS with a heavy “lean” to the Mavericks (+135) because I’m going to place a small wager on Dallas plus the points and generally like to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when taking them to cover. However, I see a lot more value in the Mavericks’ spread and the total.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the MAVERICKS +3.5 (-107) because the Bulls struggle to defend what Dallas does frequently.

For instance, the Mavs attempt the highest volume of shots from the post, the sixth-most off-the-dribble 3-pointers, and the eighth-most catch-and-shoot 3-pointers (according to ShotQuality.com). Dallas is going against a Bulls team that ranks 20th or worse in defensive efficiency vs. those three shot types.

Furthermore, according to Pregame.com, more than 90% of the cash is on Chicago at the time of publishing. It’s far more profitable to fade a crowd of people in sports betting rather than follow it.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 215.5 (-110) and this is my best bet in the Mavericks-Bulls game for various reasons.

First, both offenses run a lot of action through the pick-and-roll ball handler and both defenses are above-average in points per possession vs. the pick-and-roll ball handler. Also, both teams do a good job preventing opponents from shooting 3-pointers and each operates at a bottom-10 pace.

Additionally, the Under has cashed in eight of Dallas’s previous 10 games overall and eight of Chicago’s past ten games vs. teams with a winning record.

Finally, more than 90% of the action is on the Over (according to Pregame.com) despite all of this.

Presumably, the market sees elite scorers like Dallas’s Luka Doncic and Chicago’s DeMar DeRozan and figures more points. But, since the contrarian mindset is profitable in sports betting, let’s fade that notion.

Mavericks at Bulls: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Mavericks 119, Bulls 115

Money line (ML)

Officially, I’ll PASS on the money line but if I had to go either way it’d be the Bulls (+200) because I am taking Chicago plus the points. Typically I’d like to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover the spread and I still might pending the final injury reports.

Against the spread (ATS)

Dallas’ defense showed up against the Miami Heat (or the Heat’s offense pulled a no-show) in its 93-83 win as a 1.5-point underdog on New Year’s Day. The Mavericks held the Heat to just 37.2% from the field, 21.2% from behind the 3-point arc and outrebounded them 59-49.

The Bulls were trampled by the Milwaukee Bucks as 14.5-point underdogs in a 126-96 loss Jan. 1. Chicago was on a two-game winning streak, but both were against a then-winless Washington Wizards team.

Despite Doncic averaging 30.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists in two games against the Bulls last year, Chicago split the season series and held a 1-1-0 ATS edge.

This is a perfect fade the market spot: 85% of the money is coming in on the Mavericks, according to Pregame.com, which caused Dallas to move up from a 5.5-point opening line favorite. This would be more of a lock if the Mavericks spent a weekend night in a normal (fun) Chicago nightlife but obviously, it’s pretty tough for a professional athlete to navigate the social scene given the circumstances.

Furthermore, I am selling Mavericks stock until they start to put together consecutive quality performances. GIMME BULLS +6.5 (-115) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

Heading into Sunday’s game with Chicago, Dallas has the sixth-best defensive efficiency in the league; however, I am not sure how real that defensive production is for the Mavericks.

Again, Miami shot terribly more than Dallas stifled them on D. The Mavericks gave up 118 points to the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday and Charlotte is 21st in offensive efficiency. That 124-73 win over the Clippers on Dec. 27 is as random as it gets.

Lastly, we might be getting value because of the Under cashing in five straight Mavericks-Bulls games in Chicago. I think the trend ends Sunday so I’ll lean OVER 224.5 (-110) for a half-unit.
