Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Edmonton Oilers (12-10-0) and Chicago Blackhawks (6-11-4) meet Wednesday at United Center in Chicago. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Blackhawks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers have picked up back-to-back wins on the road against the New York Rangers, and at home against the Florida Panthers, both by a 4-3 score. It’s Edmonton’s longest win streak since a season-high 5-game run from Oct. 24-Nov. 1.

Edmonton has already faced the Blackhawks at United Center, winning a wild 6-5 decision behind Jack Campbell on Oct. 27 as the Over comfortably connected.

The Blackhawks are licking their wounds after a 7-2 beating from the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Chicago is in the midst of an 0-6-1 nosedive.

Oilers at Blackhawks projected goalies

Jack Campbell (7-5-0, 4.04 GAA, .875 SV%) vs. Petr Mrazek (1-5-1, 4.27 GAA, .878 SV%)

Campbell allowed 3 goals on 23 shots last time out on the road against the New York Rangers. It has been buyer’s remorse for the Oilers, as “Soup” has allowed 3 or more goals in 7 of the last 8 starts. And after a rough October, he has actually gotten worse in November, going 3-3-0 with a 4.18 GAA and .863 SV%.

Mrazek won on Oct. 15 in San Jose, but that was his last taste of success. Since flipping the calendar to November, he has been downright awful. Mrazek is 0-4-1 with a 4.54 GAA and .880 SV%.

Oilers at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 5, Blackhawks 3

Moneyline

The Oilers (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s way too expensive despite the struggles of Mrazek and the Blackhawks (+180) lately.

If Campbell were humming along lately, maybe this would be somewhat tempting, but with Edmonton’s offense, it’s a much better value to look to the puck line instead.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The OILERS -1.5 (+115) are a better value on the puck line, as Edmonton has the offense to make Mrazek’s night very short.

The Blackhawks are 0-6-1 in the last 7 games overall, and each of the 6 losses in regulation have been by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-115) is the best play on the board here.

The last time these teams squared off, we saw a total of 11 goals in this same venue. The teams haven’t gotten better, and, in fact, both of these goaltenders are ice-cold and playing even worse than October. Look for a track meet and plenty of fire-wagon hockey.

Carolina Hurricanes at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (9-5-1) and Chicago Blackhawks (6-5-2) meet Monday at the United Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes vs. Blackhawks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes lost 4-1 on Saturday night at Colorado in the 1st game of a  2-game road trip. Carolina has won just once in the last 4 games, scoring 1 or no goals in 3 of the outings.

The Blackhawks picked up a 3-2 road win against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, but Chicago is still just 2-3-3 in the last 8 games. Chicago is a solid 2-1-1 in the 1st 4 games against the Eastern Conference this season.

Hurricanes at Blackhawks projected goalies

Antti Raanta (3-2-1, 2.47 GAA, .911 SV%) vs. Petr Mrazek (1-1-1, 3.21 GAA, .895 SV%)

Raanta conceded 3 goals on 27 shots in Saturday’s loss in Colorado. After opening the season 3-0-1 in his 1st 4 starts, Raanta has dropped his last 2 outings, although he has allowed just 5 goals on 63 shots.

Mrazek gets as crack at his former team here. He was on the short end of a hard-luck 2-1 OT loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday in his most recent appearance. The veteran allowed 5 goals in his 1st game in Colorado on Oct. 12, but has yielded just 7 goals in the last 3 starts on 79 shots faced.

Hurricanes at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Blackhawks 2

Moneyline

The Hurricanes (-230) are clearly the better team, but Carolina has struggled lately. It’s not a good idea to risk nearly 2 1/2 times your potential return anyway, but it is especially risky for a team which has been struggling from an offensive perspective over the last couple of weeks.

AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+110) are a better play at plus-money on the puck line. There is some risk, as Carolina has had a power outage lately, sans for the Thursday win against Edmonton. But the Canes know Mrazek well from his days with their organization, and the Carolina offense should get well against him.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-135) is a little pricey, but worth playing.

The Under is 6-0 in the last 6 games for the Hurricanes when playing on a day of rest, while going 5-2-1 in the last 8 games against Western Conference teams. The Under has cashed in 5 straight games overall for Chicago, too.

New York Islanders at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks and predictions.

The New York Islanders (5-4-0) visit the Chicago Blackhawks (4-3-2) for a Tuesday night affair at the United Center. The opening faceoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Blackhawks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

New York ranks 4th in the NHL in scoring, at 3.67 goals per game, and its production has come without the benefit of much success on the power play (10.7%). The Islanders arrive in Chicago with a 3-game win streak in tow.

The Blackhawks have surprised bettors in the early going. They are a +$725 on the moneyline, and their 4 wins don’t fit the tanking-the-season narrative, at least no so far. The Hawks’ 3.44 GPG rank 8th in the league; their 27.6% powerplay ranks 6th.

Islanders at Blackhawks projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (3-3-1, 2.21 GAA, .933 SV%) vs. Alex Stalock (3-2-0, 2.95 GAA, .914 SV%)

Sorokin has stopped 74 of 76 pucks in his last 2 starts. The 27-year-old faced Chicago last season and stopped 39 of 40 shots.

Stalock is coming off making 32 saves in a Sunday 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild. The 35-year-old has already gotten more NHL action than he did the previous 3 seasons when he dealt with a heart condition and mostly played in the AHL.

Islanders at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Blackhawks 2

Moneyline

New York is better than its record. The still-probably-tanking Blackhawks are likely worse than theirs.

The Islanders head into Tuesday’s game on 2 days’ rest. They’ve logged 2 impressive wins on 2-day rest so far, and they are a worthy play in -190 territory. PASS otherwise.

Puck line/Against the spread

The better call here is the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+133) action on the puck line.

New York has played a tougher slate so far. A raw analytics comparison here does not favor the Isles, but their performance has come against tougher foes.

The Islanders have been quite good in 5-on-5 play. They are perhaps a bit due in converting on some quality chances in close. Four of their 5 wins are by multi-goal margins.

Over/Under

No lean plus extra dose of juice equals PASS.

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Red Wings (2-0-1) tangle with the Chicago Blackhawks (1-2-0) Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Blackhawks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Wings secured a point Monday with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings, and if they sneak into the playoffs, it will be a credit to C Dylan Larkin. Larkin foiled a breakaway attempt when he raced to catch a Kings player and dove, avoided tripping him, and steered the puck away from the empty net. The Red Wings tied the game at 4 soon after.

Chicago is coming off a 5-2 dispatching of the San Jose Sharks for its first win of the season. The Blackhawks suffered 1-0 and 5-2 losses to Vegas and Colorado beforehand.

Red Wings at Blackhawks projected goalies

Ville Husso (1-0-1, 2.50 GAA, .923 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Petr Mrazek (1-1-0, 3.50 GAA, .885 SV%, 0 SO)

Husso stopped all 29 shots the Montreal Canadiens fired at him in the season opener last Friday, but he allowed 5 goals in the overtime loss to L.A. Monday. He beat the Blackhawks last season while with the St. Louis Blues and only saw 16 shots, stopping 15 of them.

Mrazek was solid in the win over the Sharks, stopping 24 of 26 shots fired his way. He gave up 5 goals to Colorado Oct. 12, but many goaltenders can say that. Mrazek was miraculously 3-0 against Detroit last year as he gave up 10 goals with a 4.44 GAA and a .865 SV%.

Red Wings at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 2

Moneyline

Detroit is a short ‘dog on the road, but it has been playing like a playoff contender that just needs to keep good health to qualify. The Wings are scoring 4 goals per game, and the same should hold true Friday, Take the RED WINGS (-120) and RED WINGS OVER 3.5 TOTAL GOALS IN REGULATION (+127).

Puck line/Against the spread

Both of Detroit’s wins this season have been by multiple goals. The books haven’t caught on to how good they actually are right now. Take the RED WINGS -1.5 (+195) to nearly double your stake.

Over/Under

Both teams are 2-1-0 O/U this season, but 7 is a big number. This could truly go either way, and I’d rather stay away and roll with the 3 aforementioned options.

PASS.

Chicago Blackhawks at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Vegas Golden Knights odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Blackhawks (0-1-0) and Vegas Golden Knights (1-0-0) meet Thursday at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Blackhawks vs. Golden Knights, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Blackhawks opened their season Wednesday with a 5-2 loss at the Colorado Avalanche. New Chicago coach Luke Richardson lost in his debut as C Jonathan Toews and Max Domi scored the Blackhawks goals.

Vegas RW Mark Stone scored the tiebreaker in the final minute of a 4-3 win at the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday and we predicted the result down to the exact score. Coach Bruce Cassidy won in his debut for the Golden Knights who closed as a very slight underdog (-108) on the moneyline.

Blackhawks at Golden Knights projected goalies

Alex Stalock (20-11-4, 2.67 GAA, .910 SV% in 2019-2020) vs. Logan Thompson (1-0-0, 3.01 GAA, .900 SV%)

Stalock faced the Golden Knights twice in 2019-20 as a member of the Minnesota Wild, going 1-1-0 while allowing 3 goals on 55 shots, good for a 1.53 GAA and .945 SV%.

Thompson faced the Blackhawks twice last season, going 1-0-1 while allowing 7 goals on 74 shots, good for a 3.30 GAA and .905 SV%.

Blackhawks at Golden Knights picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Blackhawks 4

Moneyline

PASS.

The Golden Knights (-380) are overvalued on the ML, especially considering how close these teams’ last head-to-head meetings have been. Vegas is just 6-4 vs. Chicago in the last 10 meetings.

Puck line/Against the spread

CHICAGO +1.5 (+115) is a strong play at positive money. In the last 7 meetings, Chicago is 7-0 on the puck line. The Blackhawks got a bad break having to open their season at the defending Stanley Cup champions, but should put up a more respectable effort vs. a Vegas team that they historically play well.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-125) should hit Thursday and has a lot of trends to support it.

Dating back to last season, the Over is 6-1 in Chicago’s last 7 games vs. a team with a record above .500. Chicago struggles to keep games low scoring vs. elite competition. While Vegas’ record of 1-0-0 is a small sample size, it is still projected to have a winning season.

Vegas’ offense shines at home as the Over is 8-1 in its last 9 home games. Chicago’s offense can keep pace in Vegas as well, as the Over is 7-3 in their last 10 head-to-head meetings at T-Mobile Arena.

Chicago Blackhawks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche open their regular seasons Tuesday at Ball Arena in Denver. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Blackhawks vs. Avalanche, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Original 6 Blackhawks are a proud organization, but they’re going through a rebuild.

The team still has some star power with RW Patrick Kane, C Jonathan Toews, etc., but it dealt young cornerstones C Kirby Dach and RW Alex DeBrincat this past offseason, and Chicago is expected to be one of the worst teams in the NHL in 2022-23.

The Avalanche will raise their Stanley Cup banner in front of the home crowd Wednesday. The champs will have a new backstop, replacing G Darcy Kuemper with G Alexandar Georgiev.

Blackhawks at Avalanche projected goalies

Petr Mrazek (12-6-0, 3.34 GAA, .888 SV% in 2021-22 w/Toronto) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (15-10-2, 2.92 GAA, .898 SV%, 2 SO in 2021-22 w/N.Y. Rangers)

The veteran Mrazek gets a chance at a starting gig in the Windy City. The journeyman netminder is with his 3rd team in the past 3 seasons. He is just 2 seasons removed from a solid 6-2-3 record with a 2.06 GAA and .923 SV% with 3 SO in a revival with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2020-21.

Georgiev won 15 games last season for the Rangers playing behind star G Igor Shesterkin. The Bulgarian now gets a chance to start for the defending champs. He has been consistent, posting exactly 2 SO in each of his past 4 seasons.

Blackhawks at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Blackhawks 2

Moneyline

There is very little chance that the Avalanche (-420) start off their title defense with a loss to the hapless Blackhawks, but you cannot risk more than 4 times your potential return.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

BLACKHAWKS +2.5 (-130) is worth playing lightly. While Chicago is going to be awful this season, they were pretty bad in 2021-22, too. Colorado swept the 4-game regular-season series, but the Avalanche won 3 of those games by 2 goals and the other game in OT. The ‘Hawks won’t win, but they can hang around and make things interesting.

Over/Under

The UNDER 6.5 (-105) is 5-2-1 in the past 8 meetings in Denver. This won’t be a defensive slog, but we should see some better-than-average goaltending.

Georgiev should be energized playing with the champion Avs, and Mrazek should be much better after a disastrous season in Toronto, especially now that he is 100 percent healthy.

Philadelphia Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (25-43-11) touch down in Chicago to face the Chicago Blackhawks (26-42-11) Monday at United Center. Puck drop is slated for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Flyers vs. Blackhawks odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Flyers enter this one soaring from a 4-1 upset over the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday as +210 underdogs. They have won two games in a row and have scored 10 goals in the process. LW Noah Cates, a 23-year-old rookie, had 2 goals and an assist Sunday and has 3 goals and 4 assists in his last five outings.

Chicago has dropped two in a row, by 4-1 deficits, and has lost eight of 10. Their star LW Alex DeBrincat has really cooled off. The 40-goal scorer has just lit the lamp twice this month.

Flyers at Blackhawks odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers +115 (bet $100 to win $115) | Blackhawks -140 (bet $140 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Flyers +1.5 (-220) | Blackhawks -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -107 | U: -115)

Flyers at Blackhawks projected goalies

Felix Sandstrom (0-2-1, 3.29 GAA, .915 SV%) vs. Kevin Lankinen (6-15-6, 3.62 GAA, .887 SV%)

The 25-year-old Sandstrom is searching for his first professional win. He has stopped 108 of 118 shots in his young career but has only been given 5 goals of support across his three starts.

Lankinen is 2-6-1 with a 3.59 GAA and .889 SV% in April with wins against the Phoenix Coyotes and San Jose Sharks. The Flyers beat him 4-3 in March as he stopped 23 of 27 shots.

[tipico]

Flyers at Blackhawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Flyers 5, Blackhawks 3

Money line

We’re going to stick with the hot hand here as Philadelphia has scored 18 goals in the last five games and is ending its season on a high note. The Flyers have won six in a row against Chicago, and they’ll make it seven Monday. Take the FLYERS (+115).

Against the spread

You could opt to just stick with the money line here, but there are just a few games left to throw down on. I’ll consider the Alternate Spread Flyers -1.5 (+250). Philadelphia’s last three wins, and four of its last five victories, have been by three goals. Otherwise, PASS.

Over/Under

This one could go either way and I’ll probably stick to the puck line.

However, The Over hit earlier in March with a 4-3 finish between these two and has cashed in the last four contests at United Center. It’s 3-0-1 in the last four Flyers road games and in the last four when they’re road underdogs. It’s also 4-0 in the last four Flyers games against teams with a losing record. Too many Over trends to ignore. LEAN OVER 6.5 (-107).

New Jersey Devils at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s New Jersey Devils at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (17-28-5) and Chicago Blackhawks (18-26-8) square off in a Friday night bout at 8 p.m. ET at the United Center. Below, we look at the Devils vs. Blackhawks odds and lines and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils are coming off a 6-1 Wednesday win at Pittsburgh but are just 3-9 since Jan. 23. On the road, the Devils have won three in a row but are just 3-6 over their last nine efforts. Across their last seven back-to-back-day situations, New Jersey has gone 1-5-1 in game No. 2.

The Blackhawks have not played since Sunday and are playing the fourth game in a six-game stretch at the United Center. Chicago has gone 0-2-1 over the front half of that home stand. It has yielded 5 goals-or-more in six of its last 10 outings.

  • Money line: Devils +122 (bet $100 to win $122) | Blackhawks -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Devils +1.5 (-210) | Blackhawks -1.5 (+160)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -112 | U: -108)

Devils at Blackhawks projected goalies

Jon Gillies (3-8-1, 3.50 GAA, .893 SV%) vs. Marc-Andre Fleury (16-18-4, 2.80 GAA, .912 SV%)

Gillies returns to the net after a nine-day layoff. He was last seen allowing 6 goals to the Lightning Feb. 15.

Fleury has had sharp and flat outings since late January, mostly due to the defense in front of him. Chicago had been making strides in yielding fewer shots on goal and high-danger looks this season. They’ve coughed up a lots of both recently, and it has had the 37-year-old on the ropes in a few recent starts.

Devils at Blackhawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 3, Blackhawks 2

Money line

Recent puck-possession numbers would peg the Devils being a near-50% proposition. Even with Chicago having the advantage between the pipes, there is some leverage to be gained with NEW JERSEY (+122).

Against the spread

Lots of juice here: PASS.

Over/Under

Neither side is all that productive in 5-on-5 play. And the schedule presents some rest/rust issues that could favor the defense. BACK THE UNDER 6.5 (-108) on a small lean.

Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Blackhawks (15-20-7) visit the Detroit Red Wings (18-18-6) Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Blackhawks vs. Red Wings odds and lines and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Chicago is coming off a 2-0 loss at Colorado Monday. The Blackhawks are winless (0-3-1) in their last four games.  They are 2-6-1 over their last nine contests on the road. Chicago, of late, has reverted to some problems on defense: the ‘Hawks have allowed 35.4 shots on goal per game over their last five.

The Red Wings head into Wednesday night off back-to-back losses. Detroit fell to Dallas and Nashville on Friday and Saturday. The Wings and ‘Hawks are meeting for the first time since Oct. 24, when Detroit routed Chicago 6-3 at the United Center.

Blackhawks at Red Wings projected goalies

Marc-Andre Fleury (13-13-3, 2.76 GAA, .913 SV%) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (12-11-5, 2.79 GAA, .915 SV%)

Fleury got off to a rocky start this season, but he has been exceptional of late. The veteran netminder owns a .936 SV% over his last seven games. He allowed 2 goals-or-less in each of his last four road starts.

Alex Nedeljkovic was on a nice roll this month (.936 SV% from Jan. 4-17) but allowed a combined 8 goals in the weekend setbacks against Dallas and Nashville. He has been solid in previous efforts coming off back-to-back misfires.

Blackhawks at Red Wings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2

Money line

Chicago has been hamstrung by a 6.5% shooting mark in 5-on-5 play in its last 10 games. The Blackhawks have especially come up empty in recent high-danger chances. When it comes to creating those low-slot efforts, Chicago has outpaced Detroit in recent weeks.

By a slim margin, CHICAGO (+100) presents the best value in Wednesday’s contest.

Against the spread

Peg the true odds as being lost in the juice between these prices: PASS.

Over/Under

The Under is 5-0 in the last five Chicago-Detroit games and is 5-1 in the Red Wings’ last six games overall.

Respecting both goalies and with the thought this battle is a tighter one than the October meeting, BACK THE UNDER 5.5 (-115).

Colorado Avalanche at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (18-8-2) and Chicago Blackhawks (11-17-4) clash in a Tuesday night showdown in Chicago. The match-up at the United Center is slated for a 9 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Blackhawks odds and lines and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Colorado is playing just its second game since Dec. 16. The highest scoring team in the NHL (4.21 goals per game) earned a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks in its return to the ice Sunday. The Avs tallied two power-play goals in the victory and are 31.3% with the extra man over their last 32 attempts.

The Blackhawks have been shellacked in two games since a 13-day hiatus. The ‘Hawks were outscored 11-2 over Saturday and Sunday games against the Nashville Predators and Calgary Flames. Chicago has lost four in a row.

Colorado won 4-2 when these teams met Oct. 13.

Avalanche at Blackhawks projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (14-5-0, 2.73 GAA, .909 SV%) vs. Marc-Andre Fleury (9-10-1, 2.86 GAA, .913 SV%, 2 SO)

Kuemper has sometimes struggled away from home this season. He owns a 3.15 GAA and .897 SV% on the road and has allowed 3 or more goals in seven of his eight road starts.

Fleury is returning to action after being in COVID-19 protocol. The veteran netminder has not played since Dec. 17. He has been better this year away from home. Colorado got to him for 4 goals on opening night (Oct. 13), but Fleury was quite good against the Avs last season (.932 SV%).

Avalanche at Blackhawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Blackhawks 3

Money line

The Avs offense against Chicago’s recent woes makes for prices in this range: PASS.

Against the spread

Chicago has been solid under interim head coach Derek King. A bounce-back effort in their third game back from the Christmas hiatus — against a Colorado club that is playing just its second game since the break — is worth a partial-unit play on the puck line.

BACK THE BLACKHAWKS +1.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The Over is 18-7 in Colorado’s 25 games. Its 6-0 in Chicago’s last half-dozen games as an Underdog and is 3-1-1 across the last five meetings of this series.

Analytics point to the Chicago offense being been a tad better than recent final scores would indicate. Fleury could well be rusty and is backing a ‘Hawks defense which has made more than its share of mistakes of late. And Kuemper has been subpar on the road.

TAKE A CRACK AT THE OVER 5.5 (-135).
