Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers Game Preview

Why Chicago Bears Will Win

Did it look like Aaron Rodgers was having a good time against the Minnesota Vikings in the 23-7 loss?

Whine about your wide receivers without saying you don’t like your wide receivers – that’s life for 12 now without Davante Adams.

Minnesota loaded up to stop the run, but it didn’t really work – Green Bay just didn’t hand the ball off. When it did, the offense worked, but 18 carries weren’t enough. The team fell behind because it couldn’t cover Justin Jefferson, the Packer receivers weren’t coming through when they got their chances, and now the pressure is on to make the O go.

Yes, the Chicago win over San Francisco last week was played in a monsoon, but the Bear defense showed up, the secondary should be able to handle the Packer receiving corps that’s missing Allen Lazard, and …

Week 2 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

Chicago doesn’t have Justin Jefferson.

The Minnesota receiver ripped up the Packers for 184 yards and two touchdowns, but Chicago’s offense would be happy to get that many total passing yards.

Justin Fields was able to come up with one big throw to Dante Pettis after everything else broke down, and now the Packer pass rush that wasn’t there last week will dial it up against the abysmal Chicago offensive line.

The Bears ran for just 99 yards last week averaging 2.7 yards per carry. That’s going to be the norm.

And yes, Green Bay won’t ignore the running game this week because it won’t be behind. Expect twice as many carries as there were against Minnesota, and expect the combination of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon to take over right away.

And …

Week 2 NFL Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The Green Bay receivers are going to be fine.

There isn’t an Adams-level player around anymore, but the reigning MVP is going to spread it around, he’ll find a nice groove, and the Packers will come up with a steady-not-spectacular win.

Methodical can work, especially against a Chicago team that’s going to struggle to score. That, and Aaron Rodgers doesn’t lose to the Bears.

Why Chicago Bears Will Win

Win and get in, or lose and hope that a banged up Los Angeles Ram team can beat Arizona.

What’s different since the Bears lost to Green Bay back at the end of November? Mitchell Trubisky and the offense are working, and the running game has all of a sudden gone from the worst in the NFL to one of the best.

The offense has been simplified, it’s more about smashing away than the up-tempo passing game, and the results are there with fewer turnovers and with David Montgomery turning into a superstar. However …

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

The running game worked against Green Bay a few weeks ago, too, and it didn’t matter.

It’s a push to say that Chicago just quit in the 41-25 loss, but the defense made a whole lot of business decisions.

Yeah, the Bear offense is better, the Green Bay run defense isn’t great, but none of that matters because Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are playing at an otherworldly level.

The Packer offense is toying with teams now, including through the snow in last week’s win over Tennessee.

Yes, Chicago is playing a whole lot better, but it was against Houston, Minnesota and Jacksonville. Green Bay is a whole different animal.

CFN Experts Picks: Week 17 NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Green Bay cares.

It would’ve been a much easier task for Chicago if the Packers had the No. 1 seed locked up, but it has to win to lock it in. Lose, and they could miss on the all-important bye week if the Saints and/or Seahawks win.

There won’t be a problem.

Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers don’t lose big games against Chicago.

The Bears will play inspired for about a half, and then Rodgers and the passing game will go on two straight scoring drives to take over and end the drama.

Again, as good as Chicago has looked, it’s because it went against bad teams. Green Bay is just that strong.

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Chicago Bears Will Win

The defense is still outstanding.

It’s not getting a lick of help from the other side of the ball, but it’s still special on third downs, it’s not allowing enough through the air, and the run defense has only allowed more than 150 yards once.

The pass rush is okay, but this has been the ultimate bend-but-don’t-break D – it’s outstanding at holding up in the red zone and forcing field goals. It’ll keep the score low and within range, but …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

The Chicago offense is a disaster.

The running game is the worst in the NFL, it has still only come up with two touchdown runs, and the passing game is sputtering and coughing.

Coming up with points is like pulling teeth with 23 points or fewer in each of the last seven games and 17 or fewer in four of those.

This is an explosive Green Bay attack that’s putting up points in bunches – score early, and this might be over, partly because of …

CFN Experts Picks: College

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago
Here it is. Here’s the last shot to show that he might be worth building around after losing his job to Nick Foles and missing time with a shoulder problem. Fantasy-wise, the stats weren’t that bad in his first three games – he threw six touchdown passes and rallied back late in games to crank up the yards a bit. This week, with no running game to count on, this is hows shot against a mediocre Packer pass D.

What’s Going To Happen

Trubisky isn’t going to be all that bad, and the Chicago D will keep this in range for all four quarters, and …

Aaron Rodgers will be Aaron Rodgers. It’ll be a fight for the Packer offense, and then boom-boom-boom – a few quick passes, and here come the scoring drives. It won’t be anything pretty, but the Packers will take the sin after losing three of its last six.

  • The Bears have won three in a row, most recently knocking off the Dallas Cowboys 31-24 at home in the Week 14 Thursday game.
  • The Packers, who lead the division by a game over the Minnesota Vikings and currently sit in the No. 2 NFC playoff spot, are on a two-game win streak after beating the visiting Washington Redskins 20-15 last week.
  • A Chicago loss in Green Bay would eliminate the Bears from playoff contention if the Vikings win at the Los Angeles Chargers later Sunday.
  • The Bears are 3-3 on the road, but 4-9 Against the Spread (ATS) overall.
  • The Packers are 6-1 at home and 8-5 ATS overall.
  • The Packers won the first head-to-head meeting of the season, 10-3 in Week 1 at Soldier Field.
  • Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has thrown for 2,440 yards and 16 TDs, but with 8 interceptions.
  • Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has thrown for 3,260 yards with 23 TDs and 2 picks in 13 games.
  • The Bears defense ranks fourth in points allowed (17.8 PPG) and 10th in yards allowed (326.5 YPG).
  • While the Packers offense hasn’t been its usual self – ranking 23rd in yards (340.1 YPG) – the defense has been decent, ranking 13th in points allowed (20.8 PPG) but 22nd in yards allowed (367.9 YPG).

Prediction

Packers 24, Bears 16

Moneyline (ML)

It’s no surprise the Packers (-209) are favored at home, but I’m not interested in making a 2-to-1 type bet, where every $2.09 wagered only would profit $1 if Green Bay prevails. I’m going to focus on the spread instead. The Bears are +170 where every $1 wagered would profit $1.70 if Chicago wins.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The PACKERS (-4.5, -106) are the STRONGEST PLAY. Green Bay has won the last three vs. the Bears at Lambeau and have won 9 of the past 11 head-to-head meetings at home. Plus, Rodgers is 18-5 vs. the Bears in his career. Chicago (+4.5, -115) last won at Green Bay Nov. 26, 2015.

Every $1.06 wagered on the Packers to win by 5 points or more would profit $1 if they do so.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 41.5 (-125) is worthy of a small play. The Bears are 5-8 O/U on the season, 2-3 O/U on the road and 0-2 O/U as a road underdog. The Packers are 6-7 O/U overall and 3-4 O/U at home – they’ve been favored in every home game.
