Prediction

Thunder 112, Spurs 101

Moneyline (ML)

Each team comes into Sunday’s game having won back-to-back games, the first of which for the Spurs (+165) came against the Thunder (-200) in the game before the All-Star break. The 114-106 win for the Spurs gave them a 2-1 lead over the Thunder in the season series and came despite Thunder PG Chris Paul‘s 31-point performance.

Paul has played well against the Spurs in his career—his 18.8 points and 8.1 assists per game are better than his career averages. I expect Paul to have another quality start against the Spurs and for him to get enough help to get past the Spurs Sunday.

PASS ON THE MONEYLINE though because the -200 odds for the Thunder to win are too chalky.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The THUNDER (-5.5, -106) have the best against the spread record in the NBA (26-11) versus conference opponents whereas the Spurs (+5.5, -115) are in the bottom-10 of the NBA with a 13-19-1 ATS record against the West. Also, San Antonio comes into Sunday games sluggish and the Thunder are 7-0 ATS in their last seven Sunday games.

The Spurs average 113.2 PPG to rank 10th in the NBA but their average drops tp just 102.4 PPG on Sundays. The Thunder should be dialed into this matchup since dropping their last meeting.

BET THUNDER -5.5 (-106) to win by at least 6 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The silver lining to the Spurs’ offensive struggles on Sundays is that they allow just 110.2 PPG on Sundays, as well. Their defense is ranked 22nd in opponent points per game which contributes to the Spurs’ 33-21-1 Over/Under record. San Antonio’s O/U record is 1-7 in its last eight Sunday games and the Thunder’s O/U record is 0-3-1 in their last four games as a home favorite. Plus, the Under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings in Oklahoma City.

TAKE UNDER 221.5 (-110).

Prediction

Nuggets 108, Thunder 103

Moneyline (ML)

The Nuggets continued their domination of the Thunder in their first meeting back on Dec. 14, winning 110-102 for their seventh consecutive victory in the rivalry. Additionally, the Nuggets have played great against division foes, going 9-0 vs. Northwest Division clubs, averaging a 9.6 margin of victory. For all the love Denver receives as a home team, it should get more praise for having the fifth-highest winning percentage in road games. What jumped out at me and makes me confident in betting the NUGGETS (+100) to win outright is the edge they have in Per 100 Possession categories. Both teams are having a great season, but Denver is ranked seventh in offensive rating and 10th in defensive rating; Oklahoma City is 14th in offensive rating and 12th in defensive rating.

New to sports betting? Bet $100 on the Nuggets (even/+100) to earn a $100 profit if they win outright.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Thunder -1.5 (-110) are a slight favorite. One needs to lay -110 to get 1.5 points of insurance to back the Nuggets. Let’s PASS since we have a narrow line and should just play the moneyline. Here are some ATS trends that strengthen our ML handicap:

  • The Nuggets have covered 10 straight games against the Thunder.
  • Oklahoma City is just 9-10 ATS as a home favorite. Denver is 6-4-1 this season as a road ‘dog.
  • Denver has the best ATS winning percentage following a loss with a 10-3-3 record.

Over/Under (O/U)

The last two Nuggets-Thunder meetings went Under the projected total and the Nuggets have a 2-7 O/U record in games against division opponents. Their combined O/U record is 52-57-1 so the game is most likely to go Under. Also, these teams have played a combined three games with four or more rest days and the O/U record is 0-3 in those games. I lean UNDER 216.5 (-115).

Celtics vs. Thunder: Odds, lines, picks, and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated Saturday at 12:28 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Thunder 110, Celtics 108

Moneyline (ML)

The THUNDER (-115) are slight home favorites over the Celtics on Sunday afternoon. The Thunder have been fantastic at home this season, winning 17 of their 27 games at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. While Boston has won six-straight games, the Thunder are an impressive 9-1 in their last 10 games. Take the Thunder at home in Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The THUNDER (-1.5) are less than a basket favorite over the Celtics on Sunday. Oklahoma City has faired very against the spread, as of late, going 14-6 against the spread. With Boston having some notable injuries, including Jaylen Brown, there’s just too much value in taking the Thunder at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this matchup on Sunday afternoon is set at 218.5 points, which feels just about right. Both teams are averaging over 110 points per game this season as these are two of the better offenses in the NBA. However, both teams rank inside the top-10 on defense and the under has hit in five of the last six games for the Thunder at home. Take the UNDER 218.5 (-110) to barely hit in Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon.

Pistons at Thunder: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Thunder 116, Pistons 101

Moneyline (ML)

HARD PASS ON THE MONEYLINE in this Pistons-Thunder matchup. Detroit (+600) has won two of its previous three games but Oklahoma City (-909) has won eight of its previous 10 and has beaten the Pistons in four of their last five head-to-head meetings. The Pistons aren’t offering good enough odds to justify betting a team with a 4-15 straight-up record as a road underdog and taking the Thunder isn’t worth the risk.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Thunder to win outright returns a profit of just $1.10.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Pistons have waived the white flag on the season after trading two-time All-Star Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. Drummond led the Pistons in rebounds and blocks per game, defensive rating and was second on the team in points per game, behind Rose, who could miss Friday’s game due to injury. The absence of those two players gives the Pistons pretty much no matchup edges from a personnel standpoint. Along with their terrible win/loss record as a road dog, the Pistons are 5-13-1 against the spread with a minus-9.1 margin of victory.

On the other side, the Thunder stood pat at the trade deadline and are the far healthier team coming into Friday’s game. Oklahoma City has the best ATS record in the NBA at 34-17. With no Drummond in the mix, the Thunder should have a much easier time controlling the glass against a Pistons team ranked 27th in rebounds per game and 23rd in defensive rebound percentage. Additionally, the Thunder are ranked seventh in field goal percentage and should get quality looks against the Pistons who are ranked 27th in opponent field goal percentage.

BET THUNDER -12.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Detroit has the most Overs in the NBA with a 33-20 Over/Under record. What’s fascinating about that is the Pistons rank 22nd in points per game and a mediocre 17th in opponent PPG. From what I gather, their O/U record is mostly due to bookmakers’ setting a lower total since the Pistons don’t have prolific scorers the average bettor would back.

TAKE OVER 212.5 (-115) because of Detroit’s propensity to go Over projected totals, the juiced-up line and since we need the Thunder to cover a huge spread.

Prediction

Mavericks 113, Thunder 105

Moneyline (ML)

The MAVERICKS (-128) head to OKC looking to close out 2019 on a high note. It appears Doncic avoided disaster and will be in the lineup Tuesday, barring any kind of late decision to rest him as a precaution. Double-check before finalizing those tickets. Hardaway Jr. isn’t as much of a certainty, but his absence or inclusion in the lineup isn’t going to move the needle much on the chances of Dallas to win the game.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Mavericks to win outright returns a profit of $7.80.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAVERICKS (-1.5, -115) will cost you a little less than the moneyline, so it’s not a bad way to go as long as Doncic is officially active. The Mavs have a 19-6-1 ATS mark in the past 26 road games, including a perfect 4-0 ATS as a road favorite. The Thunder (+1.5, -106) are a solid 4-1 ATS in the past five overall, but just 1-6 ATS in their past seven tries vs. Dallas. The Mavs are also 23-11-1 ATS in the past 35 trips to Oklahoma City.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total of 217.5 is just too close to my predicted score. Like the line, there is a little bit of uncertainty as far as Doncic, too. But assuming he plays, this one will be in the high two-teens. If there is a lean, it’s to the Over (-115), which has cashed in each of the past six meetings in OKC.

Clippers at Thunder: Key injuries

Clippers: PF JaMychal Green (tailbone) remains questionable. SF Kawhi Leonard (rest) is expected to sit out the second half of the back-to-back.

Thunder: SG Andre Roberson (knee) is out indefinitely, while SG Hamidou Diallo (elbow) is expected to be out until the New Year.

Clippers at Thunder: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Clippers 124, Thunder 118

Moneyline (ML)

The CLIPPERS (-133) are a solid play if you don’t want to lay the bucket on the spread. The Thunder (+110) are 10-5 straight up this season at home, so it won’t be an easy trip.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Clippers to win outright returns a profit of $7.70.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The CLIPPERS (-2.5, +105) offer play-money on the spread where they’ll need to win by just 3 points. LA is 5-1 ATS in its past six on the road, and 6-2 ATS in the past eight games overall. A $10 bet on LA to win by at least 3 returns a profit of $10.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 219.5 (-125) is the play, going 4-0 in the past four for OKC, including 4-0 in the past four at home, too. The Over is 4-1 in the past five overall for the Clippers, while going 4-1 in the past five as a favorite, too. Look for plenty of points.
