New Bucs kicker Chase McLaughlin’s contract details revealed

The Bucs are getting a lot of value for what they are set to pay McLaughlin.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers filled their hole at kicker fairly quickly with the signing of [autotag]Chase McLaughlin[/autotag], and they didn’t have to give up much to do it.

FOX Sports’ Greg Auman reported on Thursday that McLaughlin’s deal is a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum with a $50,000 roster bonus and $100,000 guaranteed. The team saves quite a bit of money there in comparison to Ryan Succop, who had a base salary of $3.25 million last year.

The contract means that McLaughlin’s signing shouldn’t be a risk for the Bucs. He had his best season of his career last year, where he hit nine field goals from 50-plus yards, but his career has been up and down — he’s 26 years old, but Tampa Bay will be his seventh team. The Bucs clearly believe in his signs of improvement, however, so time will tell whether McLaughlin will continue his run of good form and possibly earn himself a second contract.

Former Browns kicker Chase McLaughlin signs with Buccaneers

Another former Brown has joined the Buccaneers

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is not the only former member of the Cleveland Browns to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. As we now enter the third week of NFL free agency, now kicker Chase McLaughlin has also taken his talents south to join the Bucs after spending time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.

During his time with the Browns in 2021, McLaughlin connected on just 71 percent of his attempts but did make all of his kicks beyond 50 yards. He missed just one extra point for the Browns that season as well. He improved last year with the Colts as well, connecting on 83 percent of his kicks.

BREAKING: Bucs sign K Chase McLaughlin

The Bucs have their kicker just a few days after releasing Ryan Succop.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have their new kicker.

JoeBucsFan reported on Tuesday that the Bucs are signing former Colts kicker Chase McLaughlin. McLaughlin is only 26, so Tampa Bay could get quite a few more years out of him if he ends up performing for the Bucs.

The team needed a new kicker after the release of Ryan Succop, and McLaughlin will fit the bill. He kicked at an %83.3 clip in 2022 and made nine of his 12 attempted kicks from 50-plus yards, so his range will be an immediate improvement over Succop’s from last year. He also converted on 100% of his extra points, which should give the team some security heading into 2023 once they get in the endzone.

McLaughlin has been a work in progress. His year with the Colts in 2022 has been his best year, and Tampa Bay will hope he will continue to improve. The Bucs will be his seventh team and just his third (presumably) starting job, as a poor stint with the Browns in 2021 saw him make just 71% of his kicks.

While it’s almost certain McClaughlin will be the Bucs’ starter in 2023, he may have to beat out kicker Jake Verity in camp.

Colts free-agent K Chase McLaughlin signs with Buccaneers

Chase McLaughlin is heading to Tampa Bay.

Indianapolis Colts free-agent kicker Chase McLaughlin agreed to terms on a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per Greg Auman of FOX Sports on Tuesday.

McLaughlin joined the Colts after the start of the 2022 season in what was his second stint with the team—his first coming in the final month of the 2019 season.

McLaughlin took over for Rodrigo Blankenship, who was waived after a disastrous Week 1 outing. The 26-year-old enjoyed an incredibly strong season, converting 30-of-36 field-goal attempts, including 9-of-12 attempts from 50 yards or more. He also was perfect on 21 extra-point attempts.

McLaughlin also broke the single-season franchise record for most 50-yard field goals, which was previously held by Adam Vinatieri.

Even with his strong campaign, the Colts opted to sign free-agent kicker Matt Gay as their new option. His recent success helped make him one of the highest-paid players at his position.

McLaughlin is the sixth free agent for the Colts to find a new team this offseason.

Top available free agent kickers the Bucs could pursue

If the Bucs don’t draft or sign a rookie kicker, these are some names the team could look out for in free agency:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ brief era of consistency at the kicker position is over.

The team released kicker Ryan Succop on Thursday, marking the end of his three-year tenure in Tampa Bay. He was a crucial part of the team’s 2020 Super Bowl run, but a massive drop in accuracy from deep in 2022 and a large cap number is likely why the team is moving on.

Naturally, the Bucs can grab a rookie kicker in the draft or sign one after it — Jason Licht has somewhat of a penchant for it — but there are also a few notable kickers who are currently free agents. Here are just a few the Bucs could look at for the 2023 season:

Here are six players the Colts should consider extending this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts have many decisions to make this offseason, including players who deserve new deals for their contributions.

Whether it comes down to veterans who are set to hit the market in March or younger players on the final year of their rookie contracts, the Colts can begin extending players during the offseason.

Here are the six players the Colts should consider extending in 2023:

6 pending free agents the Colts should re-sign

Here are six pending free agents the Colts should re-sign this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts will soon be entering the new league year in roughly a month and a half but before that, they can begin re-signing some of their pending free agents who are set to hit the market.

While there isn’t a massive list of players set to hit free agency for the Colts in 2023, there are some big names among the group. Unlike previous seasons, the Colts are a bit strapped for cash, sitting with just over $5.7 million in effective cap space, per Over The Cap.

There are a few ways the Colts can free up some cap space by trading and/or cutting certain players in 2023, including the contract of quarterback Matt Ryan.

We took a look at some of the pending free agents the Colts shouldn’t re-sign earlier in the offseason.

Now, it’s time to take a look at six pending free agents the Colts should re-sign:

Despite a tumultuous season, several Indianapolis Colts players took advantage of their time in 2022 and should have a significant impact moving forward.

These Colts are set to be free agents in 2023

These Colts are set to be free agents this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up the 2022 regular season Sunday and now turn their attention to the offseason, which includes several big names set to hit free agency in 2023.

According to Over the Cap, the Colts are expected to have around $29.46 million in salary-cap space, which is 11th-most in the NFL. They will likely restructure some contracts, and cut or trade some players, to free up some space.

But before we get into to all of that, here are the Colts who are set to be unrestricted free agents in 2023:

Studs and duds from Colts’ embarrassing loss to Vikings

Studs and duds from the Colts’ loss to the Vikings in Week 15.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

What seemed like a blowout victory for the Indianapolis Colts turned into an absolute nightmare comeback by the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.

The Colts held a 33-0 lead coming out of halftime. In true 2022 Colts’ fashion, they found a way to blow the largest lead in NFL history, being outscored 36-3 during the second half. In overtime, the Vikings pulled through with a game-winning field goal to complete a wild start to the weekend.

A game that truly was a tale of two halves, here are the studs and duds from the historic collapse:
