Florida coach visits this 5-star CB to kick off January contact period

Florida cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond stopped by a priority recruit’s high school on Friday as the contact period opened up.

Florida cornerbacks coach [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag] opened up the January contact period, which runs from Jan. 13 to Jan. 28, by visiting the high school of a five-star recruit in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports.

[autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] included the Gators in his top five just two weeks ago and is a top-25 player in the class, so it only makes sense for Riverview High to be Raymond’s first stop. Florida signed an elite defensive backs class in the 2023 cycle and pulled off a miracle during a short 2022 cycle by landing five-star safety [autotag]Kamari Wilson[/autotag]. Much of that success is thanks to Raymond, and Lester seems like his top priority in the upcoming cycle.

So far, things seem to be going well for Raymond and Lester, but there’s not timetable for a decision in place. He’ll visit Florida State over the coming weekend for a Junior Day and previously named the Seminoles and Alabama Crimson Tide as programs piquing his interest. In the past, Lester has claimed that coaching connections will play a big part in his decision, so Raymond is the right man to take point on this one.

The 247Sports composite ranks Lester at No. 22 overall and No. 3 among cornerbacks in the class of 2024. After missing on Cormani McClain in 2023, landing an in-state five-star defensive back would be a massive win for the Gators.

2024 4-star DB Charles Lester III lists Alabama in his top five

2024 defensive back Charles Lester III listed Alabama in his top five on Monday. He is one of the highest-rated propsects in the 2024 recruiting class.

Alabama has landed in the top five for 2024 defensive back Charles Lester III. The Florida native released his top-schools list on Sunday.

Lester plays for Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida. In the past, Alabama has had a history of landing some of the top overall recruits in the Sunshine state. Lester would be a good addition to the Crimson Tide’s 2024 recruiting class.

As of right now, he is favored to land at Alabama at 82.0% likelihood, according to On3’s RPM. A team to keep an eye on in his recruitment is Florida State as he has taken two unofficial visits to Tallahassee.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Charles Lester III’s recruiting profile.

Gators make top 5 for this elite in-state defensive back

The Gators got some good news to kick off 2023. Five-star cornerback Charles Lester III has Florida in his top five.

Florida got some good news on the first day of the new year as five-star cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] included the Gators in his top five along with Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State.

Lester visited the Swamp for the first time in the spring and twice during the 2022 season. He was in town for the USF game and Florida’s throttling of South Carolina. Those visits have paid off for Florida, but now the real work begins as the Gators look to beat out four elite Power Five programs.

His primary connection at Florida is cornerbacks coach [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag], and 247Sports reported that the two have established a strong connection over the past year. Lester is considered one of UF’s top targets in the class of 2024 and should be treated as a priority now that the 2023 cycle is winding down.

There’s no firm timeline for Lester’s commitment just yet, so Florida should have time to keep working on him. He’s suggested that Alabama and Florida State are two of his top programs over the summer. The Crimson Tide have the best odds to land him at 82.0%, according to On3, and Florida is a distant second at 4.7%.

Lester is ranked No. 22 overall on the 247Sports composite and at No. 3 among cornerbacks in the class of 2024. The On3 consensus is less bullish on him, grading Lester as a four-star recruit and ranking him No. 26 overall.

Elite in-state CB recruit sets third game-day visit to the Swamp

Four-star cornerback Charles Lester III has been to Florida a few times this season, and he’s returning on Saturday to see the Gators take on the Gamecocks.

Florida has played host to 2024 four-star cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] a few times this season, and the Riverview (Sarasota, Florida) recruit is now planning a third game-day visit to the Swamp, according to Gators Online.

Lester most recently visited in September for Florida’s game against USF. He was also in town for the season opener against Utah and made a trip in March to meet the new staff at UF. Lester’s upcoming trip should give him a much different idea of what life under Billy Napier would be like. The team has come a long way since then and is starting to gel more both on and off the field.

Georgia and Ohio State are teams the two teams to watch in opposition to Florida. Lester made trips to both programs over the fall, and he’s taking game-day visits very seriously.

“Each game-day visit gives me a lot of information,” he said. “The environment is big to me and I take a lot away from each of these visits. I get a real feel for the people.”

Alabama is another program to keep an eye on. An offer from Nick Saban is usually met with enthusiasm, and the Tide have a habit of going after top players at their position.

The On3 composite ranks him 20th overall in the class of 2024 and at No. 2 among cornerbacks in the class. 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals all concur that he’s a top-25 talent and among the top five at his position.

Report: Class of 2024’s top-ranked EDGE set to visit Florida for Utah game

TJ Capers, a five-star edge rusher from Columbus High in Miami, has been to the University of Florida before, but never on a game day. That will change on Saturday when the Gators take on the Utah Utes with Capers in attendance.

The latest addition to Florida’s star-studded visitor list for the season opener against Utah is five-star edge rusher [autotag]TJ Capers[/autotag], according to 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins.

The Columbus High (Miami) product has been to the University of Florida before, but not since Billy Napier took over. This will also be his first game day at UF. The new staff has already re-offered him, according to Gators Online, and is trending on the On3 recruiting prediction machine as a 39.0% favorite to land Capers.

Louisville, Miami and Michigan State are the other three programs that have hosted Capers so far on visits, but he’s picked up offers from most of the top teams in the country as one of the nation’s top-ranked recruits. The 247Sports composite ranks him No. 6 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 1 among edge rushers.

Interestingly, On3 has him ranked in the same spots on their equally weighted consensus rankings, but he lacks the five-star designation. As a sophomore, Capers finished with 53 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. Perhaps another strong year will earn him that fifth star from On3.

Capers joins 2023 cornerback [autotag]Cormani McClain[/autotag] and 2024 cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] as the players with a five-star designation set to visit the Swamp this weekend. IMG Academy’s [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] was supposed to be part of that list, but he likely won’t make it with a game rescheduled to that date.

Chalk up another 5-star visitor for Florida’s season opener

Florida’s recruiting staff is scheduling a massive weekend for the season opener against Utah and a five-star cornerback just got added to the visitor list.

Florida’s season opener against Utah on Saturday will be the first under Billy Napier and his staff. While the game may be priority No. 1, the recruiting staff will be busy hosting a mammoth group of commits that just grew by one, according to 247Sports.

Five-star cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag], a member of the class of 2024 at Riverview High in Sarasota, is the latest blue-chip recruit to announce his plans to attend the Utah game. He named the Gators in his top 10 over the summer along with Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC.

Lester’s first and most recent trip to Florida came in March. He left town with an offer in hand but has since been to FSU and Alabama twice each. The Crimson Tide are the frontrunners currently. On3’s recruiting prediction machine has Alabama as an 85.3% favorite with FSU at 3.7% in second place and Florida at 2.2% in third.

He’s ranked in the top 25 of his class by three of the four major recruiting services. On3 is the only one that has him lower than No. 25 and he’s still ranked No. 64 overall and eighth among cornerbacks in the class of 2024. The 247Sports composite ranks him as the third-best corner in the class, though, and No. 23 nationally.

Regardless of which service one prefers, Lester is a priority target for any Power Five program he’s willing to talk to.
