Pair of Chargers named to 2021 Pro Bowl roster

A player from each side of the ball was named to the 2021 Pro Bowl.

The votes are in and there are two players from the Los Angeles Chargers named to the 2021 Pro Bowl roster.

While the actual game will not be held due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, wide receiver Keenan Allen and edge defender Joey Bosa have been acknowledged for their play this season.

A total of 88 players were named to the AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams, with rosters determined by the consensus of votes of fans, players and coaches.

This marks Allen’s fourth Pro Bowl appearance. The 28-year old is on his way to setting a career-high in receptions and touchdowns, as he already has 100 catches and eight scores.

Meanwhile, this will be the third time that Bosa has earned this honor. Despite being banged up for the majority of the season, Bosa still has 27 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He is 2.5 away from reaching the 50-sack mark.

PFF: Pair of Chargers named possible Pro Bowl selections

Despite the outcome of the season, the Chargers are still loaded with talent.

The Chargers might have not had the 2020 season that they were hoping for, as they currently sit with a 4-9 record with only three games left to be played. However, there have been a few players that have helped elevate the team, even if the outcome wasn’t in their favor.

Two of the standout players were mentioned by Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson as possible Pro Bowl selections. They were wide receiver Keenan Allen and edge defender Joey Bosa.

Monson highlights Allen’s magnet hands, as he leads all receivers in targets (136) and has just two drops on the season. Meanwhile, Bosa represents one of top four grades at the position.

Despite having a rookie quarterback, Allen, this season, has 90 catches for 923 yards and is tied for career-high eight touchdowns. He broke a record held by Antonio Brown, which is the most receptions in the first 100 career games.

On the other hand, Bosa continues to wreak havoc after getting paid this past offseason. The 25-year old has 40 pressures, 27 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.

Even though it won’t be happening after the season due to COVID-19, you can still vote your favorite Chargers players into the Pro Bowl here.

Best moments from Chargers in Pro Bowl practices

Defensive end Melvin Ingram and wide receiver Keenan Allen have been characters during the Pro Bowl practices.

The Senior Bowl has been the theme of the week from me, but we can’t forget that the 2020 Pro Bowl is also going on a little more south in Orlando, FL.

Despite the fact that the event doesn’t attract many fans anymore, it does showcase some entertaining moments between players from all 32 NFL teams in one big setting.

Defensive end Melvin Ingram and wide receiver Keenan Allen are the players representing the Bolts and we know they both have unique personalities – which we’ve been fortunate to see, thanks to the team’s official Twitter account.

Here are some of the best moments thus far.

Which Chargers should be selected to 2020 NFL Pro Bowl?

Chargers Wire’s Gavino Borquez says the eight Chargers players that should be selected to the 2020 Pro Bowl.

The rosters for the 2020 Pro Bowl are set to be announced on Tuesday on the NFL Network’s special “NFL Access: Pro Bowl Players Revealed” at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Even though it’s been a disappointing season for the Los Angeles Chargers, there are still a few players on the roster that have shown to be worthy enough to play in the prestigious game with the league’s best players.

First and foremost is defensive end Joey Bosa. Bosa is a lock because he still leads the AFC in votes at his perspective position. The former Ohio State product is fourth in tackles for loss (18) and eighth in sacks (10.5).

Opposite of Bosa is DE Melvin Ingram, who is also worthy of making the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive season.

Ingram doesn’t nearly have the stats that Bosa does, but his presence is known on a weekly basis, where he’s been a force at generating pressure, stopping the run and coming up big on third-down situations.

Another player on the defensive side of the ball that should be voted in is cornerback Casey Hayward, who still isn’t getting enough attention as one of the best at the position.

Though he only has two interceptions this season, the numbers don’t do the justice to show how great he is in coverage. Opposing quarterbacks purposely don’t throw in his direction because they know they will likely have to pay a price.

On the other side of the ball, there are four players who are worthy of making the Pro Bowl — wide receivers Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, tight end Hunter Henry and running back Austin Ekeler.

Allen surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark this past weekend (1,046), marking for a third straight season. He is 10 receptions shy from hitting the 100 mark and he has five touchdowns to go with that.

Williams is 88 yards shy from the 1,000 yard mark. He leads the NFL by averaging 21 yards per reception. It took a little bit to find the end zone after posting 10 last season, but he has a pair of scores in the last two weeks.

Henry is eighth in receiving yards at his position (565). The 25-year old also has four touchdowns. Not to mention, he did that while missing four weeks earlier this season.

Ekeler is the definition of efficient. He is nearing 1,400 yards from scrimmage and has 11 total touchdowns to go along with that, while serving as running back Melvin Gordon’s backup.

Finally, you can’t forget about fullback Derek Watt. Watt has been the team’s special teams ace, tied for the league in special teams total tackles with 15 on the season.

When the rosters are revealed tonight, we can expect between six and eight Chargers players to be named to the Pro Bowl roster.

Chargers’ Joey Bosa among top vote getters in early Pro Bowl voting

Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa is getting the recognition he deserves.

Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa currently leads all players at his position in the AFC conference in early Pro Bowl voting.

With one week of voting now complete, the NFL released the first set of Pro Bowl voting Wednesday and they show Bosa at the top with 62,029 votes.

Right underneath him is his brother, Nick, who’s leading the NFC conference in votes among all defensive ends with 72,506 votes.

It’s not all that surprising that Bosa is leading in votes. This season, he’s been a force in the trenches once again. Whether it’s getting after the quarterback or defending the run, his presence is known on a weekly basis.

Bosa has amassed 50 tackles (33 solo), 21 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks through 11 games.

The former Ohio State product has benefited from having his partner-in-crime, Melvin Ingram on the field. When both Ingram and Bosa are aligned on the same side, opposing offensive tackles are simply outmatched.

To solidify Bosa, along with your other favorite Chargers, you can go vote for them here.

Fans, players and coaches will each account for one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players who will be selected to the Pro Bowl

Even though it hasn’t been the sunshine and rainbows for the Chargers, the team still has several players worthy of Pro Bowl consideration this season.

Running back Austin Ekeler has been a force as a ball carrier and as a pass-catcher. Ekeler has totaled 899 yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns. Wide receiver Keenan Allen has cooled down a little bit the past few weeks, but he has still amassed 62 receptions for 725 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, cornerback Casey Hayward continues to shut down some of the league’s best receivers on a weekly basis. In the trenches, defensive ends Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa remain as one of the top pass-rushing tandems, combining for 13 sacks.

Fullback Derek Watt and linebacker Drue Tranquill have done their fair share of work on special teams. Watt leads the league in special teams tackles with 12, while Tranquill is third with nine.
