Chargers’ Justin Jones, Nasir Adderley, Drue Tranquill trending toward playing vs. Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers are healthy coming off the bye week.

The Chargers are expected to get some key defenders back for the Week 8 matchup against the Patriots.

On Monday, head coach Brandon Staley said defensive tackle Justin Jones, linebacker Drue Tranquill, and safety Nasir Adderley are all trending toward returning this weekend.

The most notable of the three is Jones, who has been out since the season opener against Washington when he sustained a calf injury.

Given the ongoing issues against the run, getting Jones back should be beneficial.

Before getting hurt, Jones showed flashes in the season opener against Washington. He was the team’s best run defender the last two seasons, finishing with 39 run stops combined.

With Jones back at practice, the Chargers now have 21 days to activate him off the injured reserve.

Both Tranquill and Adderley missed the Week 6 bout against the Ravens with chest and hip injuries, respectively.

LB Kenneth Murray is also eligible to be lifted from the injured reserve, but Staley said he needs some time before he’s ready to return to the action.

Chargers LB Drue Tranquill (ankle) out for remainder of game

The Los Angeles Chargers lost one of their starting linebackers.

The Chargers will be without one of their starting linebackers for the remainder of the season opener against the Bengals.

Drue Tranquill was carted off the field after sustaining an ankle injury early on in the first quarter, and was officially ruled out.

Tranquill’s leg was put in an air cast as he was carted off the field.

To fill Tranquill’s void, the Chargers put in Nick Vigil at WILL.

We will update Tranquill’s long-term status as more information rolls out.

Chargers injury update: OT Russell Okung unlikely to play vs. Raiders

The Los Angeles Chargers had their second practice ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

The Los Angeles Chargers had their second practice of the week ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

Here is a look at today’s injury report:

Offensive tackle Russell Okung did not practice again and it’s unlikely that he will play this weekend. Trent Scott or rookie Trey Pipkins will get the start in place of him. The team has yet to announce who that will be, but Pipkins should get the reps if they feel like they have something with him.

Wide receiver Mike Williams, who’s been dealing with a knee issue and was limited Wednesday, was a full participant today.

Here is a look at the Raiders’ injury report:

Oakland will already be without offensive tackle Trent Brown as he was placed on the injured reserve Wednesday, but it appears they could be banged up on the offensive line, given that three starters did not practice.

Chargers’ Russell Okung to be limited in practice

Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung will be limited in practice this week.

Offensive tackle Russell Okung, who suffered a groin injury Sunday, will be limited as the Los Angeles Chargers begin their preparation for an AFC West battle against the Oakland Raiders.

Coach Anthony Lynn on Wednesday said Okung will get treatment this week and that he will get limited snaps at practice.

Okung suffered the injury right before the half in which he was chasing a Vikings defender who recovered a fumble and he went down awkwardly reaching for the groin area. He did not return to the game.

The left tackle has battled a groin injury for over a month, so it appears that he may have re-aggravated it.

His status for this weekend’s game will likely be 50-50. If he can’t go, Trent Scott could very well get the start. But it’s possible that the team could let rookie Trey Pipkins, who has been a healthy scratch the past two games, get some playing time.
